WALLINGFORD — A corroded water pipe, located underground in Wharton Brook State Park, leaked 5.5 million gallons of water resulting in a bill of $30,000 that local officials decided to waive. The Public Utilities Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to follow the recommendation of Water and Sewer Divisions Manager Neil Amwake and credit the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection all but $185 of the total bill, which had reached $30,241 — contingent

Because the park is in North Haven, the state has other options to provide water service
In order to continue delivery to your home or business, we need to have each resident or business let us know that, by filling out our on-line requester form at: myrecordjournal. com/north-haven-requester. Or, you can call us at 203-634-3933 and we can mail you a postage paid postcard to fill out and return. Without the necessary requester information, delivery of your North Haven Citizen to your home or business, will end.
Amwake gave a historical overview of the history of the high consumption issue. In 1958, the state paid the Water Division to relocate a water meter pit that had been installed 10 years earlier, from the east side of South Colony Road south to the North Haven town line to within Wharton Brook State Park, about 250 feet south of the original meter pit location.

A global vaccination effort, including developing and manufacturing vaccines that utilize a variety of technologies, is critical to keeping variants at bay and overcoming hesitancy. Hotez told reporters during a virtual media conference on Thursday, Jan. 27 that it’s time to take a look at the durability of the current mRNA vaccines now used to combat the pandemic. The world is not going to end in the next 10 years, he said, “but this is a decade where things really do matter, our ability to tackle the climate crisis and actually have a climate that we can manage to be livable and functional will depend on the decisions we’re making over the next decade.”

Small changes The task force, created in 2007, encourages efficient energy use throughout town. Kenny Foscue said energy improvements can include sealing air leaks and adding insulation, improving heating and cooling systems, replacing windows and upgrading appliances. Solar power is another climate-friendly option. “It is proven technology and has been around for a long time now," Foscue said. Freda pointed out that he and Foscue meet once a quarter to discuss the work of the task force. “We will continue to bring new and exciting projects to North Haven that promote clean energy,” the first selectman said.
“The omicron wave does seem to be subsiding. We have to see if it goes down as quickly as it accelerated,” Hotez said. “I’m careful not to be too overly optimistic. Sometimes it’s going down then goes up. The question is will it subside.” Mask-wearing, vaccines, boosters and regular testing are key to making COVID-19 an endemic illness like the cold and flu, the health experts said. You can prevent a big bill with a little cold weather maintenance With winter’s severe weather and cold temperatures blanketing the region, residents can take steps to avoid the damage, cost and inconvenience that comes with a burst water pipe or damaged water meter.
wrapping pipes can also help.
Aquarion Water Company, the largest investor-owned water utility in New England, suggests following a few simple tips to keep the water safely flowing all winter long:
Open cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around pipes along outside walls.
Check water pipes near uninsulated or drafty walls, doors, floors and windows, including in your basement, garage or attic. Add insulation wherever you can. For many years, the North Haven Boys’ Soccer Alumni Association has awarded an annual scholarship to a deserving senior, to be used for college expenses. The 2021-2022 scholarship went to Domenico Sposito, who is pictured with his coach, John Parisella.
Keep all doors and windows tightly closed. Fill cracks in walls and openings around doors and windows. Insulating or
Locate the main water shut-off valve to your home and show all household members how to turn it off in the event of a burst pipe.
In extreme cold, let faucets drip. If your water meter is in an outdoor pit, check to see that the pit cover fits properly and has no cracks through which cold air can flow. Never use a torch or open flame to thaw a pipe. If you see, or suspect, damage to water pipes, call a licensed plumber for assistance. — Press Release
