Twelve Percent Beer Project begins brewing on State Street By Everett Bishop The Citizen
The State Street brewery originally began as 12 Percent Imports over a decade ago, with founder Brian Ewing working with small brewers from around the globe, selling their product out of his car.
Ewing’s partner, Alex Blank, who operates the brewery, likened the business model to that of an independent record label.
This grand list increase brings North Haven to over $3.3 billion.
Johns said that it was because of a “number of economic development opportunities” that have come to North Haven that the grand list grew as it did. Some of these included: Amazon, Twelve Percent Beer Project, La Lupa, the Landing and American Eagle Financial Credit Union. See Record, A8

The new year brings new beer as Twelve Percent Beer Project officially opens.
“At its core we find, what we think, are the best small brewers out there,” said Ewing. “Then what we do at the brewery is help market them, scale them up and expose them to a wider audience.”
Grand lists reflect a municipality’s assessed value of all taxable property. When projecting a town’s grand list, three main components are assessed: real estate, motor vehicles and personal property, which typically refers to business equipment and infrastructure.
“There were two major factors that affected the grand list this year,” said Assessor Gary Johns. “We had a revaluation which modified all of the property values in town and we had major growth in commercial real estate.”

“We have these ‘artists,’ which are our brewers, and some of them have their own facilities, but the facilities they have are tiny and they can only make so much beer,” he said. “In that way, we’re supplementing pro-
duction. Some don’t even have a brewery.” Twelve Percent is currently working with about 15 brewers in the U.S. and overseas. See Brewery, A8
