Town’s grand list growth reaches a record high By Everett Bishop The Citizen
The town’s grand list reached a record high for 2019 with a 9.8% increase, according to First Selectman Michael Freda.

Twelve Percent Beer Project begins brewing on State Street By Everett Bishop The Citizen
The State Street brewery originally began as 12 Percent Imports over a decade ago, with founder Brian Ewing working with small brewers from around the globe, selling their product out of his car.
Ewing’s partner, Alex Blank, who operates the brewery, likened the business model to that of an independent record label.
This grand list increase brings North Haven to over $3.3 billion.
Johns said that it was because of a “number of economic development opportunities” that have come to North Haven that the grand list grew as it did. Some of these included: Amazon, Twelve Percent Beer Project, La Lupa, the Landing and American Eagle Financial Credit Union. See Record, A8
Local’s Kobe portrait featured on national show
The new year brings new beer as Twelve Percent Beer Project officially opens.
“At its core we find, what we think, are the best small brewers out there,” said Ewing. “Then what we do at the brewery is help market them, scale them up and expose them to a wider audience.”
Grand lists reflect a municipality’s assessed value of all taxable property. When projecting a town’s grand list, three main components are assessed: real estate, motor vehicles and personal property, which typically refers to business equipment and infrastructure.
“There were two major factors that affected the grand list this year,” said Assessor Gary Johns. “We had a revaluation which modified all of the property values in town and we had major growth in commercial real estate.”

“We have these ‘artists,’ which are our brewers, and some of them have their own facilities, but the facilities they have are tiny and they can only make so much beer,” he said. “In that way, we’re supplementing pro-
duction. Some don’t even have a brewery.” Twelve Percent is currently working with about 15 brewers in the U.S. and overseas. See Brewery, A8

“We just came off two losses that we should have won, so coach told us we have to get back to what we were doing,” Jackson said. “This is a pivotal point in our season.” McDonnell had four treys and scored 20 points by halftime. Coming off two sub-par performances, McDonnell scored 10 points in the first quarter when Sheehan raced out to a 25-5 lead and never looked back. Sheehan held North Haven senior guard Rich Hagar in check this time. He had 28 points in the teams’ earlier encounter, but just 12 on Tuesday night. With the loss, North Haven dropped to 7-7.

ARCY painted all week for The Dan Patrick Show, commissioned through AT&T, and the producers felt they needed to honor Bryant. The plan initially was to stick to notable Miami figures.

So he worked quickly to get a sketch together — something he normally does months in advance — and producers helped get the paint and supplies that he needed. ARCY works primarily with spray paint. ARCY said the pressure of painting a sports icon so quickly and soon after his sudden death was nervewracking. From the start of the painting process on the street outside the studio in Miami Beach, onlookers seemed to immediately realize who he was painting and from then on, the reaction was extremely positive, he said.
ARCY stands with former Dallas Cowboy wide-receiver Michael Irvin and his portrait of the retired football player in Miami, Florida.
As a Disney artist and father of two, ARCY started leaving hidden Mickey Mouse figures in his paintings for his kids to find and has continued the tradition in every single painting as a trademark. But for this portrait, he didn’t include Mickey Mouse and added something to symbolize Gianna Bryant instead.
“He did this on short notice, folks,” host Dan Patrick said on the broadcast. “It’s so well done and you just kind of captured the spirit of Kobe Bryant with that.”
“I put in a butterfly, a small butterfly … that is to symbolize Kobe’s daughter, who we also lost and we have to pay homage to her, as well,” ARCY said.
Around two hours into the broadcast, when Irvin joined as a guest, the painting was revealed to him and a timelapse of ARCY on the street painting was shown.
The Kobe Bryant painting was featured on The Dan Patrick Show, a sportscast that gets about 2 million viewers and listeners weekly, at the beginning of the show on Jan. 29.
Other Miami-related sports figures that ARCY planned to paint for The Dan Patrick Show included Dwayne Wade, Dan Marino and Don Shula.
On Monday, Jan. 27, ARCY’s portrait of football legend Michael Irvin was featured on the show, as well.

On the night of the shooting, Edwards said he was sitting in the car and saw Graves arguing with Hampton, the warrant said. Edwards said Graves approached Hampton acting like he had a gun, and he and Hampton reportedly shot him. Edwards said another person got involved and fired back, so Edwards and Hampton returned fire.
Edwards got into the passenger seat of a car driven by the witness, the warrant said. When asked what the “beef ” was about in regard to the shooting, Edwards said “it was some-
During an interview with police on Nov. 22, 2017, Hampton said when he saw Graves walking toward his car with a gun drawn, he got a gun out of his car and shot him.
