CIAC: Let the winter games begin
Most of state in COVID red zone Connecticut's most recent COVID-19 report, which includes two weeks of data, showed 36 positive cases in North Haven, which put the community in the coronavirus orange zone (10 to 14 cases per 100,000 people per day). The trigger for top-ofthe-chart red status – where most Connecticut towns and cities now stand – starts at 15 cases per 100,000 people per day.

CHESHIRE — A day after completing a successful fall season that saw relatively few team-wide disruptions from COVID-19, the CIAC released its formal guidance for the upcoming winter season.
According to the state report, as of Nov. 28, 354 people in Connecticut were hospitalized with laboratoryconfirmed COVID-19. Among the hospitalized, 262 – 74 percent – were not fully vaccinated.
By and large, it reiterates the plan the CIAC unofficially released a few weeks ago. The season will start on time in all winter sports. It can include multi-team events and interstate competitions. There will be a full season and there will be state postseason championships. There has been a slight toggle, though, on the subject of masks. While the CIAC repeated that masks will not be required during winter competition for vaccinated athletes — they will be required in certain sports for the unvaccinated — the organization does want its member schools to continue, for the rest of the fall semester, employing the mask policies that were in See CIAC, A8

Championship cheer squad is Florida-bound It has been a fairytale-like season for the North Haven D8 Competition Cheerleading team, and the final chapter has yet to be written. First, the squad of 6- to 8-year-olds placed first in their division locally. Then, they were crowned state champs.
From there, the North Haven cheerleaders moved on to the New England competition, and bested the field yet again. Next up for the New England champs is the national competition, which will be See Cheerleaders, A2
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, COVID-19 symptoms may appear 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus. Symptoms may include fever or chills, coughing, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.
