The Plainville Historical Society is excited to announce its first program of the year. On Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m., Kevin Johnson from the State Library's History and Genealogy Unit will portray William Webb, an African-American Civil War soldier from Connecticut. A native of Hartford, Webb served in the 29th (Colored) Regiment of Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. Johnson's presentation is told from an exciting firstperson perspective that illustrates the struggle of AfricanAmericans serving in the infantry. He tells of Webb's early life, recruitment and training,

and the traumatic final battles of the Civil War. The presentation is based on extensive research using collections at the State Library and Museum of Connecticut History. The event will take place in the second-floor meeting room at the Plainville Historic Center, 29 Pierce St. Elevator access is available. Seating is limited, so if you’d like to attend, send an email to plvhistorical@gmail.com. Include your name, phone number and the number of people in your party.
