Enjoy a horizontal life pause from time to time You know you’re getting old when the candles cost more than the cake. After 30 a body has a mind of its own. You’re not 40. You’re 18 with 22 years of experience. As you get older three things happen. The first is your memory goes, and I can’t remember the other two.
Do you sometimes feel in need of a side-splitting laugh? Something to catapult you out of the day-today doldrums? Well, I have just what the doctor ordered.
ment?
An Internet search coughed up some quotes, from people both known and unknown, that are bound to coax at least a few chuckles out of you. And some will give you pause for thought.
Before you marry a person you should first make them use a computer with slow Internet to see who they really are.
Here goes:
I love you with all my belly. I would say my heart but my belly is bigger.
I know I’m a handful, but that’s why you’ve got two hands.
All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.
Don’t get weird about getting older. Our age is merely the number of years the world has been enjoying us. Doing nothing is very hard to do. You never know when you’re finished.
If love is the answer, can you please rephrase the question?
I love you more than coffee but not always before coffee.
If you think you’re too small to be effective, you have never been in the dark with a mosquito. Taking naps sounds so childish. I prefer to call them horizontal life pauses. I walk around like everything is fine, but deep down, inside my shoe my sock is sliding off. If we’re not meant to have midnight snacks, why is there a light in the refrigerator? I’m not good at the advice. Can I interest you in a sarcastic com-
Love is a fire. But whether it is going to warm your hearth or burn down your house, you can never tell. The four most important words in a marriage: I’ll do the dishes. I like long romantic walks, down every aisle at Target. We don’t grow old. When we cease to grow we become old. Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.
My keyboard must be broken. I keep hitting the escape key but I’m still at work. Work is against human nature. The proof is that it makes us tired. Well, I hope some of these brought a smile to your lips. I am especially fond of the notion that the light in the refrigerator is suggestive of nighttime snacking. I am happy to take that suggestion! And I love thinking that my age is the number of years the world has been enjoying me. I have been cherished and adored for quite some time now. Have an awesome day, my friends!

Letters to the Editor Racial equity? Editor : The May 13 Town Times article about the Coginchaug Alliance for Racial Equity at Strong and Coginchaug troubled me. The purpose of the organization, as described, is to provide a “space to speak freely” about “incidents of racism and bullying.” Students should be encouraged to talk about these issues, but “racial equity”? What is that? Sounds like an effort to establish victimhood, or to paint some ethnic groups as oppressed, and others as oppressors. Hopefully that is not the case, since we all have to live together. Our school system should not be engaged in trying to drive wedges between ethnic groups. Our youth are well-served by being able to discuss their concerns, but they would benefit more from our school system providing a stimulating and challenging environment that emphasizes the basics: reading, writing and arithmetic; and, I would add civics. Maybe that’s being done. I hope it is. Bob Stira

A 2017 study involving 5,826 United States veterans showed that 12.9 percent were diagnosed with PTSD. Thankfully, there are many services for veterans to find the help they may need.

Following his tour of duty, Chase headed to Camp Kilmer in New Jersey, and after being honorably discharged from the military, went back to the Berkshire School, where he coached hockey and track. The veteran even had the opportunity to play some semi-pro hockey in New York before attending Babson College, where he earned a degree in business. After working in the insurance industry for a short time, Chase embarked on a long career in the Human Resources Department of Mobil Oil Company, where he focused on the recruitment of college talent. Fairy Gardens wanted at Levi E. Coe Library It takes a village to build a Fairy Garden! Join the Friends of the Levi E. Coe Library in Middlefield as they create their first Fairy Garden on the beautiful grounds of the library. Civic organizations, Scouts and others are invited to create a book-themed Fairy Gar-
den that will be displayed at the library June 25 to July 9. The garden may be based on books in general or on a particular story, scene or character. It’s not too early for residents to begin thinking about a design. This is a great project for people of all ages. There are so many
possibilities. We ask that all creations be constructed in a container such as a wood box, sturdy cardboard box, basket, wagon, etc., so that they will be easy for us to move around while we set up. Also, Fairy Gardens should be waterproof, as they are expected to be dis-
played outside in the Shakespeare Garden. Drop off dates will be June 20 to 23 during library hours. There is no fee to participate, and you’re welcome to take your Fairy Garden home after July 8. For more information, call 860-349-3857. — Press Release

Hochadel is a former science teacher in the state technical high school system, having taught at Wright Technical High School in Stamford and at Kaynor Technical High School in Waterbury.
He has previously run unsuccessful campaigns for state and local office. He was originally one of two Republicans seeking the endorsement in the 83rd House district this year, before switching to the Senate race, which allowed Republicans to avoid a primary.
