Quilt-making memorializes those lost to drug overdoses By Everett Bishop Town Times
In 2018, more than 68,000 Americans lost their lives to a drug overdose. Mothers, fathers and children were left without loved ones and were forced to move on and cope with their loss. “My son died May 24 of 2016 from an accidental over-
dose,” said Joy Meyerholz. “It can be anybody’s kid. This quilt is going to be seen by a lot of people and I just want to tell my son’s story.” In order to help keep the memories alive of those lost, TriCircle, Inc., an organization that provides counseling to those affected by substance abuse, hosted a Remembrance Quilt square-
making event at the Middlefield Federated Church. Loved ones were supplied craft supplies, pizza and soda and were given a space to create a quilt square that best reflected the loved ones they lost. Remembrance Quilts are sewn together once 36 See Quilt, A13
