Laura Loffredo, director of sales and marketing at Powder Ridge Park & Resort in Middlefield, said they started making snow last week.
Dougherty said staff members in contact with the public will be masked, including food service and ticket employees. Masks are recommended to the public indoors.
Since they enlarged their snow pumping system, Loffredo said they can pump about 2 million gallons a day on the hill. So after three good days, they can open up some trails.

Anyone else’s pants shrink since last winter? to behave themselves. They are so big to begin with – tent-size, actually – that a bit of shrinking would hardly be noticeable. I would like to offer you all my deepest apologies. I have ushered in winter, singlehandedly. I was able to hold it at bay for a while by not bringing out the winter clothes.
It has seemed particularly hard for me to part with summer this year. I always feel so free in the summer. And not so much in the winter.
So to Old Man Winter, I say, “Please go easy on us this year. It’s nothing personal, but I don’t think that I am the only one who is not exactly in love with you. I ask two things of you-please keep the roads free of snow and ice (and I’m talking every day), and if you feel that you must drop a ton of snow on us, please be sure to
make it light and fluffy. I am sure you have heard me complain bitterly, throughout all time, about the shoveling. I loathe it. But light and fluffy makes it more bearable.” So again, my friends, my apologies. I don’t think it was a coincidence that soon after I coaxed out the winter
clothes the Artic blasts arrived on the scene. But if it’s any comfort, this could work in reverse come springtime. I will be sure to bring out the summer clothes at a reasonably early time, and kick off the shoes just to seal the deal. That should usher in those balmy days. You’re welcome, in advance.
I am sure you all know how that works. Bringing out the winter clothes and the winter jacket, turning on the heat, and for me, putting on shoes, are surefire ways to summon those cold blasts of air that take your breath away. For a spell, come summer’s retreat, I will shiver and shake before donning the winter garb. I call it just good common sense.

I kept meaning to switch out the clothes this year. And I kept not doing it. It’s really not that cold, I would tell myself. And I just loved opening my dresser drawer and seeing all those shortsleeved colorful shirts that only spoke of summer.

But when I finally started getting a bit frosty around the edges, I had no choice. Time to go over to the hope chest and dig out last year’s attire.

R236883v3
There’s a lot that can happen in those intervening months. For instance, the pants have an obnoxious habit of shrinking and making me feel like all those frozen desserts finally had the last laugh. Well, I am blaming the pants, not my frozen delights. I think they get bored, so they like to engage in a bit of mischief and go down a couple of sizes.
R236885v3
I think the thing that makes me nervous, every year, is the possibility that my threads may not still fit.
