LA NOTTE DEI MUSEI Settembre con i suoi grandi apuntamenti ha visto ancora una volta Venezia emergere tra le città d’arte più ricercate in Italia, confermando una volta di più, il ruolo che la storia le ha assegnato, quello di punto d’incontro tra uomini e culture provenienti da ogni angolo del mondo. Per questo, istituzioni pubbliche, fondazioni, associazioni, lavorano con unità d’intenti, offrendo una continuità di valori nel campo dell’arte e dello spettacolo con eventi che completano la già ricchissima offerta monumentale e architettonica della città. E’ il caso di Art Night Venezia che riprende vita dopo l’edizione virtuale dello scorso anno. Per il suo decennale la manifestazione che ha scelto come data il 2 ottobre, in concomitanza e accordo con la famosa "Nuit Blanche" di Parigi e con le altre Notti bianche europee, proporrà un vasto programma d’iniziative con aperture speciali e gratuite a musei, palazzi, mostre e gallerie d’arte, alle quali si aggiungeranno spettacoli, incontri, performance artistiche. A questo evento si affiancheranno ancora e per tutto il mese, mostre d’arte, festival di musica, stagioni teatrali e, non solo. Venezia nel mese celebra anche lo sport con due importanti appuntamenti: Veleziana, scenografica regata velica di fine stagione e Venice Marathon conosciuta oltre che per il valore tecnico e spettacolare, per una formula che ha saputo negli anni coinvolgere appassionati da ogni parte del mondo, tutto nelle pagine a seguire...

Un Ospite di Venezia

THE NIGHT OF MUSEUMS September with its major events has seen Venice emerge yet again amongst the most sought-after art cities in Italy, once more confirming the role history has assigned to her as a meeting hub for people and cultures from all corners of the world. Public institutions, foundations and associations all work towards this with a unity of purpose, offering a continuity of values in the fields of art and entertainment by producing events which round off the already very rich offering in monuments and architecture. It is the case of Art Night, coming back to life after last year's virtual edition. For its tenth anniversary, this event, which has chosen 2 October as its date in conjunction and accord with the famous Nuit Blanche in Paris and with the other European White Nights, will offer a vast programme of initiatives with free visits to museums, palaces, exhibitions and art galleries, as well as shows, meetings and artistic performances. This month also features art exhibitions, music festivals, and the opera and prose seasons by La Fenice Theatre and the Carlo Goldoni Resident Theatre... Not only. Venice is also celebrating sport this month with two important events, the Veleziana, a scenographic end-of-season sailing regatta and the Venice Marathon, known for its technical and spectacular merit, as well as its highly flexible format, which has managed over the years to involve ordinary enthusiasts from all over the world.

DA ART NIGHT A VENICE MARATHON L’OTTOBRE VENEZIANO L’imbrunire… le luci si riflettono tremule sull’acqua, la città ci appare quasi galleggiare come un antico veliero. Un’immagine che ci annuncia una nuova stagione, dove i giochi di luce e di ombre si fanno più intensi e le magie della notte conquistano gli spiriti romantici. La nuova stagione, l’autunno, è anche questo… vivere con più tranquillità lo straordinario connubio tra storia e arte che anima la città. Un’occasione unica a questo proposito la offre Art Night, la Notte dei musei, un evento ideato e coordinato dall’Università di Ca’ Foscari in collaborazione con il Comune di Venezia. L’apertura, sabato 2 ottobre, avverrà nella cornice del palazzo gotico affacciato sul Canal Grande, sede storica dell’ateneo veneziano. Poi via via, un ricchissimo programma aprirà tutti quegli spazi coinvolti nella grande kermesse dove arte, storia e cultura in tutte le loro declinazioni offriranno uno spettacolo unico che trasformerà ancora una volta, una notte veneziana, in un momento indimenticabile. Si affiancano nel mese un'importante serie di appuntamenti.

La Biennale Architettura. Nonostante una preparazione resa difficile dalla pandemia, la Biennale di Venezia è riuscita nell’impresa di costruire e presentare a maggio la sua 17. Mostra internazionale di Architettura. Visibile fino al 21 di novembre si presenta al pubblico con un’emblematica domanda How will we play together? (Come vivremo tutti assieme?). La risposta, o meglio i tentativi di una risposta, è data dai 112 tra architetti e studi selezionati per la rassegna dal direttore Hashim Sarkis. Si affiancano le mostre presentate dalle Partecipazioni nazionali e quelle delle esposizioni collaterali. Le mostre d’arte. Da sempre fiore all’occhiello della città rappresentano anche l’occasione di scoprire nuovi palazzi e collezioni museali. Venetia 1600, nascite e rinascite è la mostra dell’anno, a celebrazione dell’anniversario della nascita della città. I Musei civici la presentano in un luogo simbolo, Palazzo Ducale. Qui, un affascinante percorso attraverso capolavori d’arte, presenta sotto una visuale inedita i momenti salienti della storia e dell’identità della città. Il panorama prosegue poi con l’allestimento Tributo agli artisti veneziani presentato dalla Collezione Guggenheim; la personale sullo scultore e fotografo Bruce Nauman a Punta della Dogana; il progetto espositivo "Stop Painting" di Peter Fischli, per la sede della Fondazione Prada; la collezione degli animali di vetro di Pierre Rosenberg, alle Stanze del vetro; la retrospettiva Omaggio a Virgilio Guidi presentata dalla Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa; l’installazione multimediale Modigliani Opera Vision, alla Pietà; la retrospettiva dedicata al fotoreporter Mario De Biasi ai TreOci e, ancora per la fotografia, l’imponente progetto fotografico HyperVenezia presentato da Palazzo Grassi. Gli spettacoli. Come per le mostre, vastissimo è anche il panorama musicale e dello spettacolo in genere. Alle rappresentazioni del Rigoletto, ai concerti sinfonici e al ciclo di Musikamera, in cartellone al Teatro La Fenice si aggiungono alcuni importanti appuntamenti, tra questi Il Festival Morelli, il primo dedicato ad un musicologo, alla Fondazione Levi; il Vivaldi Festival un inedito appuntamento alla riscoperta del patrimonio musicale del grande compositore veneziano; il Festival Galuppi e della Musica, tradizionale rassegna autunnale giunta alla 28. edizione; il ciclo Il suono dell’Impero, rivolto alla musica dell’epoca di Napoleone Bonaparte, al Palazzetto Bru Zane. Gli appassionati di Cinema potranno invece seguire le proiezioni dell’11. edizione dello Short Film Festival collaudata rassegna di “corti” promossa da Ca’Foscari. Lo sport. Chiudiamo con tre spettacolari appuntamenti, diversi per struttura e carattere ma con in comune passione e contesto scenico: sono Venice Hospitality Challenge, vero e proprio gran premio sull’acqua riservato ai maxi-yacht; Veleziana, regata non competitiva, ideale festa di chiusura della stagione velica e VeniceMarathon, manifestazione entrata da molti anni nel novero delle più prestigiose competizioni internazionali del settore. Tutte, vivranno i loro momenti culminanti nello scenario del bacino di San Marco, rispettivamente sabato 16, domenica 17 e 24 ottobre. D.R.

FROM ART NIGHT TO THE VENICE MARATHON, A VENETIAN OCTOBER Twilight… lights are reflected tremulously on the water, the city appears almost afloat to us, like an ancient sailing ship. An image announcing a new season to us, during which the light-and-shadows play becomes more intense, and night-time magic conquers romantic spirits. The upcoming season, autumn, is this too... experiencing the extraordinary bond between history and art animating the city, in a quieter way. A unique opportunity in this sense is being offered by Art Night, the Night of museums, an event conceived and coordinated by the University of Ca 'Foscari in collaboration with the Municipality of Venice. Its opening, on Saturday 2 October, will take place within the setting of its Gothic palace overlooking the Grand Canal, the historic seat of the Venetian university. Then, an extremely rich programme will gradually open up all those venues involved in this great event, where art, history and culture in all of their forms will offer a unique show which will transform a Venetian night into an unforgettable moment, once again. An important series of rendez-vous during the month are flanking all this. The Architecture Biennale. In spite of a difficult preparation due to the pandemic, the Venice Biennale succeeded in the task of structuring and presenting its 17th International Architecture Exhibition in May. Visible until 21 November, it announces itself to the public with the emblematic question How will we play together? (Come vivremo tutti assieme?). The answer, or rather its attempts at answering, is provided by the 112 architects and studies selected for the showcase by its director Hashim Sarkis. It is flanked by the exhibitions presented by National Participations and the collateral ones. The art exhibitions. Ever a feather in the city's cap, they also represent an opportunity for discovering new palaces and museum collections. Venetia 1600. Births and rebirths is the exhibition of the year, celebrating the anniversary of the city’s birth. The City Museums are presenting it in a symbolic location, the Ducal Palace. Here, a fascinating journey through artistic masterpieces is showing seminal moments in the city's history and identity under an unprecedented point of view. The panoramic then continues with a Tribute to Venetian artists display presented by the Guggenheim Collection; a solo exhibition on sculptor and photographer Bruce Nauman at the Punta della Dogana; the Peter Fischli’s exhibition project for the Prada Foundation venue; Pierre Rosenberg’s collection of glass animals at the Rooms of Glass; the Tribute to Virgilio Guidi retrospective presented by the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation; the Modigliani Opera Vision multimedia installation at the Pietà; the retrospective dedicated to photojournalist Mario De Biasi at the TreOci and, again about photography, the impressive HyperVenezia photographic project at Palazzo Grassi. The shows. Like the exhibitions’, the music and entertainment scenario in general is also truly vast. In addition to the performances of Rigoletto, of the symphonic concerts and of the cycle by Musikamera, on the billboard at La Fenice Theatre, certain important showcases are also taking place: the Morelli Festival, the first one to be dedicated to a musicologist, at the Levi Foundation; the Vivaldi Festival, a novel rendez-vous for rediscovering the great Venetian composer's musical heritage; the Galuppi and Music Festival, a traditional autumn festival now reaching its 28th edition; The sound of the Empire cycle, addressing the music during the age of Napoleon Bonaparte, at Palazzetto Bru Zane. Sport. We are ending with three spectacular events, differing in their structure and character, but with passion and a scenic context in common: they are the Venice Hospitality Challenge, a true grand prix on water reserved for maxi-yachts; the Veleziana, a non-competitive regatta, an ideal fête for ending the sailing season, and the VeniceMarathon, an event which has entered the list of the most prestigious international competitions in this sector for many years now. They will all experience their crowning moments within the setting of the Basin of Saint Mark, respectively on Saturday 16, Sunday 17 and 24 October.

This museum preserving the memory and history of the Jewish community in Venice is located in the historic and evocative Ghetto Square in the Jewish district of Venice. Open again to the public in a new temporary venue, its admission includes a guided tour at the Sixteenth-century Scola Levantina and the suggestive Luzzatto midrash. As a part of “a Guest at the Palace” initiative, Paolo Uccello’s painting “Saint George and the Dragon” from the second half of the Fifteenth century, from the Musée Jacquemart-André in Paris, is being exhibited. The circuit also features the “Piranesi Rome Basilico” renewed exhibition: 25 original prints made in the 18th century in Rome by the Venetian engraver, flanked for the occasion by this same number of views of the city, shot by the Milan photographer from the same angles as Piranesi’s prints. 12 - 20

• HYPERVENEZIA Riapre Palazzo Grassi con una esposizione dedicata alla città di Venezia in occasione dei 1600 anni della sua fondazione. • MESTRE PAINTING AWARD Fifth edition for this Award, refounded in 2017 with the aim of promoting contemporary painting art. Proposito della manifestazione portare a Venezia alcuni degli autori più interessanti del momento per farli dialogare tra loro e con il pubblico sulle diverse visioni del mondo. • FESTA DELLA MADONNA DELLA SALUTE Basilica della Salute, 21 novembre. Tradizionale pellegrinaggio e festa popolare a ricordo di un voto della citwtà rivolto alla Vergine Maria contro la terribile epidemia di peste del 1630. Un ponte di barche posato per l’occasione sul Canal Grande favorisce il passaggio dalla zona di San Marco. In programma visite guidate alla chiesa e alle sue opere d’arte. Per l’occasione saranno allestiti i tradizionali banchetti votivi e di specialità veneziane.

• CIVILIZATIONS CROSSROADS International literature Festival Ca’ Foscari, 3 - 6 November. This established format promoted by Ca’ Foscari University dedicated to reading and writing is proposed once again with different dates but same contents. The aim of this event is to bring some of the current best writers to Venice, in order to let them converse together and with the public about diverse views on the world. • FÊTE OF THE MADONNA OF HEALTH Basilica della Salute, 21 November Traditional pilgrimage and popular fête in remembrance of a vow made by the city to the Virgin Mary against the terrible plague epidemic of 1630. A boat of bridges laid over the Grand Canal for this occasion will aid crossing from the St. Mark area. Programme with guided tours to the church and its works of art. Poche città in Italia (e in Europa) possono vantare un panorama museale come quello offerto dalla città dal suo territorio. Inseriti in pregevoli palazzi e antiche dimore, disposti in un raggio di poche centinaia di metri, fanno parte integrante di quell’enorme patrimonio culturale che la città ha assimilato lungo i secoli di storia. Ma come scegliere il museo, o i musei, che più possono conquistare la propria curiosità e voglia di conoscenza? Ecco in breve come orientarsi. A seguire invece, in dettaglio, le informazioni riguardanti i maggiori.

Musei Civici

Gestiti dalla Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia nota con l’acronimo MUVE, rappresentano una parte, con oltre 700.000 opere d’arte, dell’immenso patrimonio culturale della città. Sono in tutto undici musei gestiti da un unico sistema che MUVE valorizza anche attraverso importanti mostre d’arte. Tra questi quelli di Palazzo Ducale, del Correr, di Ca’ Pesaro, di Ca’Rezzonico… L’ingresso alle sedi può avvenire con un singolo biglietto o tramite il sistema del circuito “Museum Pass” o del percorso integrato dei “Musei di San Marco”.

Chiese e Scuole di devozione, queste ultime antiche istituzioni della città, fanno anch’esse parte del patrimonio museale della città. Tra queste, per importanza, troviamo in assoluto la basilica di San Marco, con il suo prezioso museo, le monumentali basiliche dei Frari e dei SS Giovanni e Paolo; le Scuole grandi, veri scrigni d’arte, di San Rocco, di San Giovanni Evangelista, dei Carmini, di San Giorgio dei Greci; e ancora, tra i musei, quello Ebraico e quello Ellenico.

VENICE AND ITS MUSEUMS Few cities in Italy (and in Europe) may boast a museum scenario like this city’s. Set inside fine palaces and ancient abodes within a radius of a few hundred metres, they are an integral part of the huge cultural heritage the city assimilated over its centuries of history. But how to choose a museum, or museums, to most attract one’s curiosity and desire for knowledge? Here in brief, is how to find your way around. Information in detail follows instead about the major ones. City Museums Managed by the Venice City Museums Foundation known by its acronym MUVE, they represent a part of the city’s huge cultural heritage, with over 700,000 artworks. Eleven museums in total, run by a single body, boosted by MUVE also with notable art exhibitions. They include the Ducal Palace, the Correr, Ca’Pesaro, Ca’Rezzonico… Entry to such venues is by a single ticket, or the “Museum Pass” circuit system, or the “Saint Mark’s Museums” integrated circuit. State Museums Five in town and three in Venetian territory, these museums managed by the Ministry of Culture Regional Directorate for Museums - are part of a museum system featuring some of the area’s top museums, including the Galleries of the Accademia and the Giorgio Franchetti Gallery in Venice among others, and Villa Pisani in Stra along the Brenta Riviera. Other museums This section lists privately-managed museums or ones run by individual Foundations. We may here mention for importance the Peggy Guggenheim Collection; the Querini Stampalia Picture-Gallery; the Palazzo Cini collections. Churches, Devotion Schools and religious museums Churches and devotion schools, the latter being ancient town guilds, are also part of the city’s museum heritage. THE GRIMANI FAMILY: HERESY AND ORDER IN RENAISSANCE VENICE The Best Venice Guides have long collaborated with one of the most extraordinary state museums in Venice, Palazzo Grimani. Located in the Castello area, the palace reopened around ten years ago after a long restoration. Since then, its marvelously frescoed and stuccoed rooms, covered with ancient and precious marbles, have been further enriched thanks to the collections from the archaeological museum of Venice that originally adorned the palace and told of the Renaissance ideals of fifteenth-century Venice in particular. ARRIVARE A VENEZIA Venezia è una città-isola, o meglio, è una città formata da una moltitudine di piccolissime isole (circa 110): una configurazione praticamente unica al mondo. Il suo accesso sembrerebbe quindi complesso. Ma così non è. Venezia mantiene un “cordone ombelicale” con il mondo, o meglio con la terraferma (come i veneziani chiamano tutto ciò che è fuori dall’isola). Questo è il ponte della Libertà, un tempo chiamato Littorio, dal periodo della sua costruzione, gli anni Trenta. La sua origine è però antecedente e risale a metà Ottocento, esattamente al 1846 data dell’inaugurazione della linea ferroviaria Milano-Venezia. Da quel tempo, la città diventò raggiungibile non solo via acqua ma anche via terra… sarà una svolta epocale. Ma ecco in breve oggi, quali sono i principali punti di accesso alla città.

GETTING TO VENICE Venice is an island-city, or rather, it is a city made up of a multitude of tiny islands (about 110): a configuration that is practically unique in the world. Accessing it would thus seem complex. But this is not the case. Venice maintains an “umbilical cord” with the world, or rather with the mainland (as the Venetians call everything off the island). It is the Libertà Bridge, once called Littorio from its construction period, the 1930s. However, its origin is earlier and dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, precisely to 1846, the inauguration date of the Milan-Venice railway line. Since then, the city not only became accessible by water but also by land… it would be the turning point of an era. But here are the main access points to the city today, in brief.

I TERMINAL - GLI ACCESSI VIA TERRA TERMINALS - ACCESS VIA LAND

PIAZZALE ROMA E’ lo storico terminal automobilistico di Venezia dove spiccano le due grandi autorimesse pubbliche: il Garage San Marco e il Garage Comunale AVM (quest’ultimo con un’area predisposta anche alle biciclette). Il vasto Piazzale, di recente collegato da un moderno ponte pedonale alla Stazione ferroviaria (il ponte della Costituzione), fa attualmente da riferimento al servizio di collegamento urbano ed extraurbano con la terraferma. Da qui arrivano e si diramano le corse dei servizi pubblici (Actv e Atvo) e privati (taxi) che collegano Venezia alla città metropolitana e ai due aeroporti, quello di Tessera e di Treviso. Un servizio su monorotaia (People Mover) collega inoltre Piazzale Roma all’isola del Tronchetto. L’ISOLA DEL TRONCHETTO Allacciata da una “bretella” al ponte automobilistico, ospita il Venezia Tronchetto Parking (uno dei più grandi garage in Europa) dove possono trovare posto quasi 4000 mezzi compresi camper e motociclette. Al suo esterno, a pochi metri, si trovano gli imbarcaderi dai quali si dipartono le linee del servizio pubblico Actv (Linea 2) e privato per il cuore della città. Una linea speciale denominata People Moover collega in pochi minuti l’isola al terminal automobilistico di Piazzale Roma. L’isola ospita inoltre un porticciolo e il casello di accesso al servizio di Ferry-boat della linea 17 di Actv che collega il Tronchetto alle isole del Lido e di Pellestrina. LA STAZIONE FERROVIARIA DI SANTA LUCIA Situata in posizione ideale, questa primaria porta di accesso alla città, posta al termine del ponte della Libertà si affaccia all’ultimo lembo del Canal Grande. Qui sono disposti gli imbarcaderi da dove si diramano le principali linee Actv per la città e le isole: la linea 1 (tutte le fermate) e 2 (diretta) per il Canal Grande e il Canale della Giudecca; la 4.1 e 4.2; 5.1 e 5.2 (circolari) per laguna nord e Murano). Alla stazione di recente ammodernata e ampliata con servizi e centri commerciali, arrivano tutte le linee veloci che collegano Venezia alle principali città italiane ed europee.

PIAZZALE ROMA It is the historic car terminal in Venice, where two big public garages stand out: the San Marco Garage and the AVM Municipal Garage (the latter also has an area for bicycles). This large Square, linked recently to the railway station by a modern pedestrian bridge (the Costituzione Bridge), is currently the hub for urban and extra-urban connection services with the mainland. Public (Actv and Atvo) and private (taxis) services arrive and go from here, connecting Venice to its metropolitan city and the two airports of Tessèra and Treviso. A monorail service (People Mover) also connects Piazzale Roma to the Tronchetto island. THE TRONCHETTO ISLAND Connected to the automobile bridge by a flyover, it houses the Venezia Tronchetto Parking (one of the largest garages in Europe), where almost 4000 vehicles may be accommodated, including camper vans and motorcycles. Outside, a few metres away, are the boat-stops from where public ACTV service (Line 2) and private lines depart for the heart of the city. A special train line called People Mover links this island to the Piazzale Roma cars terminal in just a few minutes. The island also hosts a small port and toll-booth for boarding the Actv Ferry-boat line 17 service, linking Tronchetto to the Lido and Pellestrina islands. THE SANTA LUCIA RAILWAY STATION Ideally located, this primary gateway to the city at the end of the Libertà Bridge overlooks the last stretch of the Grand Canal. Here are the boat stops from where the main ACTV lines lead to the city and the islands: lines 1 (all stops) and 2 (direct) for the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal; n. 4.1 and 4.2; 5.1 and 5.2 (circle) for the northern lagoon and Murano. All the rapid lines connecting Venice to the main Italian and European cities arrive at this station, recently modernised and enlarged with services and shopping hubs.

I TERMINAL - L’ACCESSO VIA ARIA GLI AEROPORTI AEROPORTO MARCO POLO - VENEZIA Posto ai lembi della laguna nord di Venezia, a circa 13 chilometri dalla città è oggi il terzo aeroporto per numero di passeggeri in Italia. Gestito dalla società Save e ampliato nel 2017 è oggi dotato di una vasta area di servizi, oltre che di parcheggi e collegamenti con mezzi pubblici sia via terra che via acqua gestiti rispettivamente dalle compagnie Atvo (con un servizio Shuttle su Piazzale Roma) e Alilaguna con motoscafi diretti sul centro città e le isole. Vi operano numerose compagnie aeree con una folta rete di voli nazionali e internazionali. AEROPORTO ANTONIO CANOVA - TREVISO Nato come scalo per voli charter e cargo l’aeroporto di Treviso grazie ad importanti investimenti che hanno di recente ampliato pista ed aerostazione è a tutti gli effetti tra i maggiori aeroporti della regione Veneto. Aeroporto Nicelli - Lido AEROPORTO NICELLI - LIDO DI VENEZIA Tra i più suggestivi aeroporti italiani, esempio perfettamente conservato di architettura degli anni Trenta, l’aeroporto Nicelli è noto come il più antico scalo commerciale italiano, e considerato da una speciale classifica, tra le più belle superfici aeroportuali al mondo. La sua pista in erba fa oggi da scalo ad elicotteri e piccoli aerei charter e privati con motori ad elica. Posto in un’estremità dell’isola del Lido è raggiungibile via acqua con linee private o il servizio ferry-boat della linea 17 Actv.

ANTONIO CANOVA AIRPORT - TREVISO Born as a hub for charter and cargo flights, thanks to major investments which have recently expanded its runway and terminal Treviso airport is effectively one of the major airports in the Veneto region. Located a few kilometres from the city of Treviso and about thirty from the city of Venice, today it is a base for one of the leading international Low Cost companies. Managed by the same company as the Venetian airport, it is connected to the city by an Atvo Shuttle busline. NICELLI AIRPORT - LIDO OF VENICE One of the most evocative Italian airports, a perfectly preserved example of 1930s architecture, the Nicelli airport is known as the oldest Italian commercial airport, and deemed by a special ranking to be one of the most beautiful airport areas worldwide. Its grass runway is now a hub for helicopters and small charter and private planes with propeller engines. Located at one end of the Lido island, it may be reached by water with private taxis or by the ACTV Ferry-boat line 17 service.

MUOVERSI A VENEZIA Sono molte le opportunità per girare e scoprire Venezia. La prima scelta, forse la migliore, è senza dubbio – grazie alle sue distanze ridotte - quella di muoversi a piedi. A volte però, la mancanza di tempo, i bagagli pesanti e, non ultimo, l’impossibilità fisica di attraversare la laguna diventa comodo, oltre che piacevole dal punto di vista paesaggistico, salire a bordo di un mezzo di trasporto. Nella città lagunare non esistono bus, ne metro, ne auto-taxi e… nemmeno biciclette. Ecco allora che i mezzi di trasporto pubblici sono vaporetti o battelli (così li chiamano da un vecchio retaggio i veneziani) e motoscafi veloci, chiamati “lance”, che fanno la funzione dei taxi, fino ad arrivare a quel mezzo, tra i più iconici al mondo, che per secoli ha contraddistinto il trasporto di persone lungo i rii (canali) della città: la gondola. Ecco qualche nota a riguardo per chi appunto, appena arrivato a Venezia, volesse spostarsi usando i mezzi di navigazione.

IL SERVIZIO DI TRASPORTO PUBBLICO

MOVING IN VENICE

ACTV E’ l’Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano. La sua flotta di imbarcazioni raggiunge ogni punto della città, comprese le isole maggiori. Autobus e tram collegano invece il terminal di Piazzale Roma alla città metropolitana. Una linea speciale, la 17, collega invece con una spola di ferry-boat il Terminal automobilistico del Tronchetto, all’isola del Lido e, a proseguire, quella di Pellestrina. Dal 2020 ACTV sta investendo sul trasporto “green” puntando ad inserire lungo la principale via d’acqua della città, il Canal Grande, i primi mezzi a propulsione elettrica eliminando così sia l’inquinamento acustico che quello dell’aria, favorendo allo stesso tempo, la riduzione del moto ondoso. But sometimes, due to lack of time, heavy luggage and, last but not least, the physical impossibility of crossing the lagoon, it is comfortable, as well as pleasant from a scenic point of view, to board a transport vehicle. There are no buses, no metro, no car-taxis in the lagoon city… nor bicycles. Thus, public transport boats are vaporetti or battelli (traditionally so called by Venetians of yore) and fast motor-launches, called “lance”, which act as taxis, ending with one of the most iconic vehicles worldwide, which has characterised people’s transport along the city canals for centuries: the gondola. Here are a few notes for those who, having just arrived in Venice, wish to move around by navigation.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICE ACTV It is the Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano Company. Its boat fleet reaches every part of town, including its major islands. Buses and trams instead link the Piazzale Roma terminal to its metropolitan city. Special line n. 17 links Tronchetto car-terminal to the Lido island by a ferry-boat shuttle, and further on to Pellestrina island. Since 2020, ACTV has been investing in “green” transport, aiming at its first electrically-powered vehicles along the main city waterway, the Grand Canal, eliminating both noise and air pollution and favouring a wave motion reduction at the same time. IL TRAGHETTO SU GONDOLE Non molti visitatori sanno che al servizio turistico offerto dalle classiche gondole, si aggiunge il servizio delle cosiddette gondole “da parada”, cioè di quel tipo di gondola dedicata a far da spola da una riva all’altra del Canal Grande. Antica istituzione, la gondola da traghetto è una versione “popolare” della gondola oggi usata per il turismo. Priva di ornamenti e condotta da due rematori, offre la possibilità - decisamente meno costosa - di provare l’ebbrezza di un passaggio a pelo d’acqua lungo la più famosa via d’acqua al mondo. Il servizio, reso possibile grazie ad un accordo tra il Comune di Venezia e l’Associazione gondolieri, viene svolto tra le due sponde del canale attualmente da cinque stazi (approdi): Dogana, Santa Maria del Giglio, San Tomà, Riva del Carbon, Santa Sofia.Il costo a tratta è di € 2,00 (o.70 con carta Imob).

GONDOLA FERRIES Not many visitors know that in addition to the tourist service offered by classic gondolas there is the so-called gondola “da parada” service, that is, a type of gondola used for shuttling from one Grand Canal bank to the other. An ancient tradition, the gondola-ferry is a “downto-earth” version of the gondolas used nowadays for tourism. With no decorations and guided by two rowers, it offers a - much less expensive - opportunity for experiencing the thrill of passage at water-level over the most famous waterway in the world. This service, made possible thanks to an agreement between the Venice Municipality and the Gondoliers’ Association, is currently carried out between the two banks of the canal from five stazi (stations): Dogana, Santa Maria del Giglio, San Tomà, Riva del Carbon, Santa Sofia: the cost for one-way is 2.00 € (70 cents with an Imob card).

IL SERVIZIO DI TRASPORTO PRIVATO I TAXI ACQUEI Come avviene in tutte le città quando ci si deve spostare da un punto all’altro nel minor tempo possibile la soluzione migliore è il taxi. Anche qui il riferimento, lo fanno i rispettivi stazi (stazioni) disposti nei punti nevralgici della città. Il servizio organizzato da più compagnie, avviene su motoscafi veloci chiamati “lance” e contraddistinti da una fascia orizzontale gialla. Le tariffe sono, secondo regolamento del Comune di Venezia, uniche per tutte le società, e il servizio è accessibile presso le stazioni comunali Taxi, o qualsiasi pontile pubblico o privato chiamando lo 041.59.64 (RadioTaxi).

PRIVATE TRANSPORT SERVICE WATER TAXIS As in all cities, when one has to move from one part to the next in the shortest possible time, the best solution is a taxi. Here too the hubs are the respective stazi (stations) located in crucial parts in town.
