Reddam House High School Newsletter
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week, and it was a joy to receive cards from the Year 10, Year 11, and Year 12 students who had written notes to their teachers expressing their gratitude. Thank you to the Senior Executive for arranging this; they were well received.
The Annual Elective Music Recital on Monday evening featured various performances and compositions from years 9-12 elective music students. Year 9 and 10 students showcased their small ensemble playing, and the evening was also a chance to hear some pieces composed by students in Years 10 and 11 and performed by the students themselves in ensembles with their peers. The energy and excitement from the students in being able to share their work and an audience of parents and friends were joyous to see, and many parents have been in touch to reiterate how enjoyable the evening was as an insight into what the students have been working on so far in music this year. Well done to our year ten students who have launched their class album of songs they have written and performed themselves in many cases. The album was available this evening via QR code. For those who missed it, here it is again.
Last week, we had the privilege of being invited out to URBN Surf Park by Mr. and Mrs. Tudor (parents of Fletcher in Year 7 and Willow in Year 6). The Surf Park had yet to be opened to the general public, and we were treated to 3 hours of surfing the park on both the left-hand and right-hand surf breaks. The experience for 35 of our advanced surfers was epic, with everyone having an absolute ball on these perfect waves. Damon started us off on smaller waves, then cranked the power and size as the night progressed. It was the perfect night under the spotlights, with the music playing. They enjoyed each other's company and spurred each other on with the surfing. A trip to the URBN Surf Park is a must for all surfers, from beginners to advanced. Thanks to Damon and Sally for offering our surfers this unique opportunity.
The second of three Parent-Student-Teacher online meetings was held this week on Wednesday; the last one will be held on Monday next week. Teachers have mentioned that they have enjoyed these opportunities to connect with parents and students to discuss a student’s progress and found value in sharing potential ideas for improvement.
The Year 11 Art students have been busy creating artworks, given the stimulus heading of 'Shoes & Shelter' by Mrs. Symonds and Ms. Bambach, who would like to share some of their student’s creations.
Our students have been exceptionally busy, and many have received tremendous accolades and personal achievements. Some of these I would like to share with the Reddam community:
Last weekend,
Sophia Glasson (Year 11) won the Fencing National Championship Title for the second year. After returning from her first Olympic Zonal Qualifier, she successfully defended her National Championship Title in the Senior Women’s Foil category. She is the first female fencer to achieve back-to-back national titles between 15 and 16. Her brother Joseph Glasson (Class of 23’) also won the National Championship Title in the Men’s Foil category. Congratulations to the Glasson siblings on their fencing achievements.
Some of our Reddam teams played in the Sydney Comets Basketball Association Grand Final Congratulations to our top teams from Year 9 and Year 10 Boys on winning the Championships.
Last Saturday 14 students from Year 9 who are completing their Bronze Award for the Duke of Edinburgh Program embarked on in their Practice Adventurous Journey hike in Heathcote. Despite the torrential rain, and lots of backtracking to find a way into the campsite, the students preserved and were definitely pushed out of their comfort zone.
The purpose of the Adventurous Journey is not only to use navigation skills but to also demonstrate their resilience, exploration, leadership, courage and determination to finish the hike.
Congratulations to the following students on completing their Practice hike:
Lachlan Alexander, Maritsa Apostolopoulos, Mila Berman, Alice Butler, Sacha Dubossarsky, Maya Fransi, Charlotte Flekser, Gracie Ireland, Zoe Kalish, Tasha Rogoff, Emily Rusanow, Avey Sedgers, Ricky Resnik & Jacana Symonds
Eve Kalan was selected to represent Team NSW at the National Gymnastics competition, The Border Challenge. This is very exciting since she's been working on it for a long time. This competition is only for gymnasts at a very high level, i.e., level 7 and above. Her selection for the team is an outstanding achievement.

Last Friday Oli Charles combined with his AICES teammates to win the gold medal at the NSWCIS Touch Football Championships. Oli had a great day scoring a try in the Final against a very good ISA Team.
Congratulations to Luca Cowlishaw on receiving a Merit in the 11 -12 Years category for his work “Late,” which he entered in the 2024 Nan Manefield Young Writers Award. Stanton Library and North Sydney Council celebrate the writing talent of young people in the greater Sydney area with an annual Young Writer’s Award. Congratulations Luca
Ruby Levitt has been awarded the Highly Commended award for her entry in the Harmony Day Poster Competition in the Year 7-8 category. Great work, Ruby.
Congratulations to Ricky Resnik on his NSW Under 15 Ice Hockey Team selection. Ricky will compete in the National Championships in July, and we wish him well.
Congratulations to Chloe Goldin for her selection in the NSWCIS Swim Team. Chloe has had an outstanding season, and we wish her well when she swims at the NSW All Schools Championships.
Jethro Jensen and Sarah Mueller participated in the Plain English Speaking Competition on Thursday, competing against the creme de la creme of the Eastern Suburbs and Inner Sydney students. Students were required to speak for 8 minutes on a topic of their choice, and the standard was exceptionally high. Competitors were also given three minutes to prepare a three-minute speech on "White Noise," with the impromptu and prepared speech being weighted equally. Both Reddam students acquitted themselves exceptionally well, and congratulations to Sarah, who was selected to move on to the next round on May 27th.
Have a great weekend and week ahead,
Dave PitcairnUpcoming Showcase

Although many students apply directly to institutions for early offers, please remind them that not all institutions make early offers and not every course is available through these schemes. They should always aim for their dream course, even if it is not part of an early offer scheme.
A few things to note:
• International students will be able to apply from 17 April. They need to select 'International application' from the 'Apply or log in' drop-down on the UAC website.
• All IB students can now complete a UAC application as we have received their student data from the IBO.
• All interstate students should wait until 1 August to apply as UAC won't receive their student data until later in the year. I'll let you know if this changes.
Course preferences
While applications are open, please remind your students that not all courses are available to select within their application. However, they can still submit an application with at least one preference and then come back later to list additional courses when they become available.
Universities have until 1 August to have all 2025 courses available for selection in the application.
Starting an application: essential info
This year, students need the following details to start their UAC application:
Personal email address: For security reasons, when students start their application they will need to register with a personal email address and a password. They'll then be sent an email to validate their
details. Once they've done that, they will use their email address and password to log in to their application.
Year 12 student number and UAC PIN: NSW and ACT students – We emailed UAC PINs to NSW and ACT students on 3 April using the email addresses NESA and ACT BSSS have on file. If any students didn't receive this email, please ask them to call UAC. Also remind them to register a personal email address in their NESA Students Online account.
Interstate and IB students: These students also need to enter their Year 12 student number and UAC PIN. Their UAC PIN is their date of birth: DDMM.
Students need to enter their Year 12 student number and UAC PIN early in the application. These details identify them as a 2024 Year 12 student, which means they'll be able to apply for an early offer through the Schools Recommendation Scheme.
Unique Student Identifier (USI): At the request of institutions, this is now a mandatory field for domestic applicants who are Australian citizens. Students can quickly and easily create their USI or check if they already have one
