Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The last week of summer, with daily temperatures more like mid-summer, created perfect weather for the swimming carnival this week. Students were bussed to the Drummoyne Swimming pool in their houses, excited for the new House Captains to explore their leadership abilities to motivate their swimmers.
The 2024 Reddam Swimming Championships were a huge success this year, with every student entering the water and doing their best to achieve points for their house.
It was a very close finish on the points table, with Bennelong doing very well in the relays to snatch victory from Darling. Piper finished up third, with Macquarie in fourth.

The first of the music concerts, the Welcome Recital, was enjoyed by a packed audience in Adelaide Hall on Monday night. The evening featured outstanding students from right across the school, Kindergarten to Year 12, hosted by our Year 6, Year 9, and Year 12 leaders. The students and their teachers worked very hard to have pieces ready so early in the year, and what an evening of high-quality entertainment it was. Other than fantastic individual performances, the highlight was the forty-four-piece String Orchestra and the Senior Strings performing Ava Maria and Libertango, respectively.
Our school motto of “We Shall Give Back” has been alive and well for thirty-two of our students who volunteered with Kids Giving Back during the 4th Term of 2023 and the recent Dec/Jan school holidays. They have programs in the April school holidays, with bookings opening in mid-March. Keep an eye on their website, as these programs fill up quickly.
School holiday programs | Kids Giving Back
Kids Giving Back also provides opportunities for those students wishing to complete their service component for the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. It is important to empower students to become caring, socially-minded citizens.
Today, students in the Senior School participated in informative discussions on various topics:
Year 12 students met with representatives from UNSW who discussed the life of a uni student at their institution and the courses available. In contrast, Year 11 students were guided through the benefits and science behind meditation as a method of controlling one’s breathing and, by extension, one’s anxiety and stress levels.
Year 10 students workshopped on the crucial topic of healthy relationships and consent.
Last Friday, Reddam House Debating Academy had the pleasure of hosting Cranbrook School for a series of debates, serving as a preparatory session before the commencementof this year's Eastside Debate Competition. This engagement provided an invaluable opportunity for our teams to refine their skills and reacquaint themselves with the rigours ofcompetitive debating.
The evening saw six teams from both schools engaging in a series of debates:
7-8: That we oppose the privatisation of space exploration
9-10: That attempts to further extend human life through science should be abandoned
11-12: That we should actively halt the development of AI
Reddam School's debaters showcased their abilities commendably, securing wins in year 7,8, 9, and 10.
Let's wish our debaters the best of luck as they advance into the Eastside Debate Competition against Rose Bay Secondary School this week. Here's to a season of growth, learning, and achievement.
The Middle School Drama Camp takes place this weekend where students where passionate drama students get the opportunity to further develop and explore new skills in an area of their passion. I look forward to their feedback, which I will share next week.
Have a great weekend and week ahead as we head into Autumn.

Music News
We are incredibly proud of all the students who performed at Monday evening's Welcome Recital. It was a wonderful way to begin our programme of musical events for the year, and our appreciative audience was treated to some incredible group and solo performances. We thank Sylvie Pasvolsky & Sam Weidler (Year 9 & 12 Judiciary) for hosting, and the members of the Year 9 Creative Portfolio for their incredible backstage assistance. Ensembles represented included our Reddam House String Orchestra, our high school Senior Strings, and we were lucky enough to feature performances from each year group, all the way from Year 7-12. Please enjoy the selection of photos in this newsletter, and we will share the film in the newsletter when it is ready.
Also included below is the link to submissions and information for this year's Vocal Competition, with entries closing in Week 7. You are all welcome to join us for the Finals evening in Week 10.

HSC music performance rehearsals are well underway! Jacinta Shevelev (HSC Music 1) has been rehearsing her small ensembles HSC item with professional Australian entertainer, MC, interviewer, DJ (JUSTIN TIME), and vocalist Justin Rynne. Like I'm gonna Lose You, made famous by Meghan Trainor and John Legend, calls for skilled soloists who can also pull off tight vocal harmonies, and the ability to work coherently with a band - whilst providing lots of performance flare! This performance promises to be a winner, we look forward to hearing it!
The Bondi Singers (Years 10-12 Choir) have been preparing for a special combined performance with the Woollahra Singers (7-9 choristers) in Week 10. These advanced choristers will also be presenting a stunning, unaccompanied arrangement of the classic Irish folk song Danny Boy, have a listen here for a little preview!

The Hansen Scholarship Program aspires to nurture and significantly expand the horizons of Australian students who may otherwise struggle to access a high-quality university education through fully funded accommodation at Little Hall, tailored mentoring and extracurricular activities, and focused financial support.
Current Year 12 students across Australia who plan to begin their undergraduate degree at UniMelb in Semester 1, 2025 are encouraged to review the eligibility and selection criteria and start on their application. Those who apply before 3 March 2024 will have the opportunity to receive feedback on their application and resubmit by the closing date of 3 April 2024.
Join the team and current Hansen Scholars for an online information session to learn more about this rewarding scholarship on the 21 February.
