Dear Parents and Caregivers,
For all Year 7 - Year 11 students Half-Yearly Examinations started today with English. Students have had a revision week and all expectations for this assessment period should be clear to them. We wish them well during this period and remind them that thorough preparation by practising past papers and staying as calm as possible before and during the examination is the key to success. I also remind all students that the process of preparation for, writing, and feedback from the exam will lead to improvement in the long run.
Year 12 students have one more week of lessons prior to them starting their Pre-Trial Examinations next Friday.
The Year 11 Business Studies excursion to Sweet Lily’s last Thursday was an incredible opportunity for all business students to immerse themselves in the process of owning and operating a business in the current economy. They not only got to hear valuable insight from Lily (the business owner) about the experiences and struggles of running the shop, but were able to participate in helping to cook their meals and spending time with the rest of the cohort. It was an amazing day for everyone involved, and the Business Studies class of 2024 will be forever grateful to the school for offering them the chance to participate in such an insightful excursion.
Congratulations to Ivy Hincksman of (Year 10) who was elected last week to the Sydney Branch Surf Life Saving “Youth Advisory Group”, which provides input to the Junior Development Committee (the part of SLSA that runs Nippers). The Sydney Branch manages 15 different clubs) and she is one of five electedmembers of this group. This is an honour richly deserved as Ivy has for many years been an active member in keeping swimmers safe at Maroubra Beach.
Congratulations also to Jasper Hartmann (Year 9) who has been selected as a finalist for the Northern Beaches Environmental Art and Design Prize for his piece "Plastic or Prey".
To all our students, have a calm week, and do the very best that you can. Keep a balance and keep perspective.

Sydney Eisteddfod
As the Sydney Eisteddfod season unfolds, it's an exciting time for our music students. Just last week, our Year 7 Concert Band and the Reddam House Concert Band took the stage, delivering performances that genuinely exemplified their talent and hard work. Under the skilled direction of Mrs Wood and Ms Eckardt, they made us very proud indeed.
In the coming week, we look forward to the performances of our Senior Choir, which includes the Year 7 Vocal Ensemble, Woollahra Singers, and Bondi Singers. Their collective group of over 150 students have been working diligently, preparing for their upcoming performance at the Concourse Concert Hall, Chatswood. It's not just a privilege to perform in a professional venue, but a wonderful opportunity for growth and development as it allows our students to experience the dynamics of a professional concert setting. Moreover, observing other school groups perform at the Eisteddfod opens up avenues for learning - it allows our students to appreciate different styles and techniques, fostering a broader understanding of the art form.
Our String Orchestra also gears up for competition next week, having put in a lot of practice and effort. They're eager to showcase the fruits of their labor. We have several Year 12 students preparing to perform in the 16-20 years vocal categories. This platform will provide a unique opportunity for them to refine their repertoire in a competitive setting.
We wish all our performers the very best. We're confident they'll put up a great show, not only showcasing their talent but also gaining invaluable experience in the process.
Composition Competition
We are delighted to announce that Reddam House is now accepting entries for the 2023 Composition Competition. This prestigious contest celebrates the musical creativity of our students across all genres, styles, and mediums of composition. Entries will be evaluated by a distinguished Australian composer who will provide each participant with individual feedback and Music RHAP points. We will acknowledge winners in each age category, and select compositions will be showcased at our school assemblies. Students are welcome to submit multiple entries by August 7th at 5pm. For more information or assistance with entries, please contact Mr. Bortolotti at marcus.bortolotti@reddamhouse.com.au Please visit the following link for the entry submission form. We look forward to hearing your music!

String Orchestra
Our String Orchestra students are enjoying a very successful year. The Orchestra has recently delivered a fine performance of George Frideric Handel's 'Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' at the Instrumental Competition Finals, a testament to their talent and the hard work they've put into their playing year. We're excited to share that the Orchestra will be performing this piece, along with Handel's famous 'La Réjouissance' at the Sydney Eisteddfod on June 21st. These performances will showcase the breadth and depth of their musical understanding and prowess, and we are looking forward to this event very much.
Diversifying their musical repertoire, the Orchestra has also delved into the romantic era with movements from the acclaimed 'Peer Gynt Suite' by Edward Grieg. As they navigate these different styles of music, they've honed their intonation, enhanced their bow technique, experimented with ensemble colour, and delved into historically informed phrasing.
And their musical journey doesn't end there. They're about to start rehearsals for 'St Paul's Suite', a popular work by the distinguished English composer Gustav Holst. This suite is sure to offer new challenges and learning opportunities, further enhancing the students' musical expertise.
Our String Orchestra's musical journey this year is shaping up to be nothing short of remarkable. We commend their hard work, dedication and their passionate approach to music-making, and eagerly look forward to their forthcoming performances.

UAC Guide 2023/24
Applications
A reminder that if students from NSW or ACT didn't receive their UAC PIN via email on 5 April, please have them contact our customer service line on 02 9752 0200 for assistance.
Students who are completing IB or Year 12 in WA can now apply via UAC, as we have their details in our system for them to lodge their application.
I have had many questions about not finding courses on the UAC website. Please advise your students that if they can't find the course/s they are looking for, it just means that the uni hasn't provided UAC with all details as yet. All courses will be listed progressively and no later than 1 August.
Schools Recommendation Scheme
At the end of April, UAC received 2000 SRS applications which is up by 18% at the same time last year. And a reminder that schools won't be able to rate students until early to mid-August. We will be in touch soon to confirm the timing of this. We want to thank you for your patience while we are working on changes to improve SRS.
Early entry offer schemes
As you are all aware, there are many different early-entry applications, including SRS, so here are a few tips for students.
• If students want to keep all opportunities open to them, then they should apply for both early entry as well as through UAC for ATAR-based offers.
• Don't duplicate preferences across applications.
• Keep track of all applications lodged.
• Early entry isn't a guarantee of entry, as students must meet the minimum entry requirements.
For more information about each early entry offer scheme, check the UAC website here.
Educational Access Scheme
The UAC website has a great deal of information on the disadvantages students can apply for under EAS. We would recommend students check each category of disadvantage for details on documents they may need to provide to get themselves prepared for what's ahead.
To date, we have received just under 3000 EAS applications, with many who have already uploaded the required documents for a full assessment of their application.
The Access booklets are available online for you to download and provide to students if need be.

In addition to UAC and SRS applications being open, current year 12 students can also apply for UNE Early Entry now or direct to UNE when application open.
UNE Early Entry – guarantees your students a place at university whether or not they're expecting to receive an ATAR score. Our 2024 Early Entry applications have been open since February and close on 15 September 2023.
By applying directly to UNE, students can get their offer before the release of Year 12 results, giving them certainty that no matter what happens, they will have a place at UNE.
If your students have applied for SRS via UAC they can also apply for another or different courses via UNE Early Entry.
Application via Early Entry
Direct application to UNE – current year 12 students wishing to study online in our bachelor degrees or in any of our diplomas, advanced diplomas or undergraduate certificates can also apply direct to UNE.
There is no cost to apply online direct UNE. Students will need to apply in this way for courses where: they are relying on their academic merit (e.g their ATAR or other prior completion qualification/s) to gain entry into; or for UNE courses not available through Early Entry or SRS etc. Direct applications to study in 2024 are expected to open in August 2023

Introducing UNSW Portfolio Entry Early Conditional Offers
We are excited to announce that for Term 1, 2024 onwards, domestic students who are successful in applying for the UNSW Portfolio Entry Scheme will be eligible for an Early Conditional Offer
Portfolio Entry provides students applying for most Arts, Design & Architecture and Engineering degrees with the opportunity to showcase their passion and talent through a portfolio of work, alongside their ATAR.
What is a Portfolio Entry Early Conditional Offer?
Successful applicants will receive an early conditional offer which has an adjusted ATAR requirement up to 10 ATAR points below the lowest selection rank for a specific degree or range of related degrees.

For Term 1, 2024 entry, firm offers for Portfolio Entry will be issued in UAC December Round 2 (NSW and ACT applicants) and January Round 1 (Interstate and IB applicants).
