Debuting on vinyl domestically, The Mercury LP by Regulator Watts builds on t he Washington, D.C. punk band s debut EP, adding assorted odds and ends recorded between 1996 and 1997.
After t he Dischord Records band Hoover broke up in 1994, guitarist and singer Alex Dunham teamed up wit h Cret Wilson (bass, vocals) and Areif Sless-K itain (drums) to widen his sonic vision. Toget her t hey quickly developed a powerful sound rooted in punk rock and post hardcore while indulging more experimental impulses.
Dunham s unconventional tunings defined t he power trio s unique sonic footprint. They weaved toget her dubby production, odd time signatures, and ambient textures into a dark, intoxicating blend. Regulator Watts' dynamic range and rhyt hmic dexterity is well represented on t his multi faceted look back at t heir brief career.
During t heir short run, t hey released several records on Slowdime Records wit h support from Dischord Records, including t heir debut 12 The Mercury EP and full lengt h LP, The Aesthetics of No-Drag.
In 2024 t he band announced a partnership wit h Solid Brass Records to begin reissuing t heir catalog. • This EP follows their two prior albums: Kills Birds (2019) released via KRO and Married (2021) via Royal Mountain.
• They have previously toured with Foo Fighters, Sleigh Bells, Viagra Boys, Shame, Hot Snakes and Starcrawler, and have performed at festivals like Desert Daze, The Great Escape, Corona Capital (Mexico), London Calling, and more.
• Previous press support from LA Times, NME, Kerrang, DIY, The Forty Five, Spin, Ladygunn, The Line of Best Fit, Buzzbands.la, NPR, Nylon, Rolling Stone Mexico, Rocksound, Northern Transmissions and more.
• Have garnered cool co-signs like Kim Gordon and have found a fan in Dave Grohl who invited Kills Birds to open for Foo Fighters in Mexico and also use his Studio 606 in Northridge, California. The band recorded their sophomore album Married on Grohl’s legendary Neve 8028 soundboard, the console from famed studio Sound City which captured albums as iconic as Nirvana’s Nevermind, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, Rage Against The Machine, and dozens more.
• Nina is also a professional filmmaker, with a day job as the Head of Video at Vogue, as well as previous success in making music videos. She directed the music-video for Phoebe Bridgers ‘Kyoto’, and has also recently made video content for Vogue with Sabrina Carpenter, Hayley Williams, Kendall Jenner, Jeremy Allen White, Suki Waterhouse, among many others.
More than any young American rock band, Kills Birds approach their songs with an intensity that’s so tangible it feels like the stakes are near life and death. Fronted by Nina Ljeti, a Bosnian-Canadian filmmaker the Los Angeles Times called “L.A.’s most electrifying new rock singer,” alongside guitarist Jacob Loeb, bassist Fielder Thomas and drummer Griffin Kisner, their performances are visceral and cathartic. While 2019’s Kills Birds was a debut that captured the promise of their grunge-inspired sound and Ljeti’s unflinching lyrics, Married, their 2021 follow-up was a triumphant document of a band pushing their musical chemistry to new heights. Their unrelenting songs translate to an electric live show, which has garnered loads of local praise, with Kim Gordon calling them “hot as fuck.”
Their forthcoming EP, Crave, will be their debut release for Lucky Number and sonically reaches beyond the postpunk and grunge influences that shaped the bands earlier work, to incorporate elements of dance, industrial rock, and nu-metal, while maintaining a steady progression toward more melody-driven songwriting.
“The debut album from Kills Birds is a furious, fuzzy bombshell... The album’s rumbling, squealing opening track is the perfect soundtrack to 100 beers spilling on the floor of a dark rock club.” - The New York Times
“Their sophomore album Married (recorded at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606) is the unapologetic zinger we’ve all been waiting for. From first listen, it’s clear the only thing they’re killing is any chance of anonymity.” - SPIN
“This fledgling Los Angeles quartet led by Bosnian-born singer Nina Ljeti doesn’t waste any time on its combustible 26-minute debut album.” - Chicago Tribune
“A confrontational rock record with the kind of buzz reserved for emerging pop acts... Watching Kills Birds onstage, it’s hard not to be taken in and shaken up.” - Los Angeles Times
“Nina Ljeti’s voice sits right at the centre of Kills Birds’taut, blustery sound: Raspy and direct, it blurts, chatters and shouts with commanding intensity. On Kills Birds’self-titled debut, the band works double-time to conjure huge, booming sounds to match Ljeti’s intensity — most notably in the form of Jacob Loeb’s massive storm-cloud guitar riffs, which billow menacingly around her.” - NPR
“Bleeds with stark confidence, primitive guitars and grating lead vocals, and it embodies the slightly threatening but ultimately exhilarating swagger that you get from spitting on the concrete or gleefully launching into a mosh pit.” - Paste

, the
Seattle-based singer/songwriter whose heartfelt storytelling and undeniable charm have been quietly building a devoted fanbase across the globe.
For years regulars at Al’s Tavern might murmur to each other about Dean Johnson behind the bar. There were nudges and whispers that he might just be the best songwriter in town. They spoke of his talent like a family secret –Seattle folklore. How many times, and for how many years, did Dean elusively reply to some variation of the question, “When will there be a record?”
In May of 2023, there nally was. Nothing For Me, Please , Dean Johnson’s debut album, was released on his 50th birthday.
Calling him a “hidden gem” doesn’t quite t, because there’s nothing hidden about him—he shines in plain sight. It was only a matter of time before people stopped to take notice.
Dean’s music feels like a conversation with an old friend—warm, honest, and deeply human. His songs bridge the past and present, weaving modern sensibilities with a timeless appeal. With razor-sharp wit and an uncanny ability to make you laugh and cry in the same breath, Dean’s songwriting reminds us why music matters, o ering proof that a song can be more than the sum of it’s parts. Hear just a phrase of his melody, catch even a moment of the sobering depth in his voice, and you’ll feel it—like a letter written, signed, sealed, and delivered just for you.
Go see him live, and you’ll understand. That’s how he won us over—one song, one story, one unforgettable moment at a time.

Led by Anne Lise Frøkedal and Frode Strømstad, they have come with infectious melodic strength and rich harmonies. The formula has been a classic fourpiece approach to the music.
Their music has been widely acclaimed by critics in Norway, as well as in the US and UK. While perpetuating the legacy of icons like The Byrds, Big Star, Teenage Fanclub and even My Bloody Valentine, they keep playing by their own rules on each release, combining music history with a modern perspective.
“Best Wishes - A Shortcut to I Was a King” collects highlights from their rich catalog from 2005 - 2024, and features contributions from Sufjan Stevens, Robyn Hitchcock and Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub) to name a few.

Julien Baker & TORRES’ Send A Prayer My Way was written and sung in the best of the outlaw tradition— defiant, subversive, working class, and determined to wrestle not only with addiction, regret and bad decisions, but also with oppressive systems of power. Mercifully, this is only the beginning of the stories TORRES and Baker are determined to tell. Because these are also songs about radical empathy and second chances, and third chances, and while there’s plenty of struggle and regret in here, there’s also humor and defiance.
Send A Prayer My Way has been in the works for years. Imagine two young musicians playing their first show together at Lincoln Hall, a much-loved venue here in Chicago. It’s January 15, 2016, and bone chillingly cold outside, especially for a couple of southerners. When the show is over and they’re shooting the shit, one singer says to the other, “We should make a country album.” This is the origin story, the stuff of legend in the world of country music, and the beginning of a collaboration between two artists already admired for their spare, elegant lyrics as well as the courage to share their struggles with those who love their music. It’s also the beginning of creating a work that, like the most enduring country albums, sustains and inspires, reminding both singer and listener that not one of us is ever totally alone in this world, that music is a steady companion.

The Return of…John Howie Jr. and the Rosewood Bluff (Schoolkids Records) heralds the reappearance of North Carolina’s finest honky tonkin’, soulful country-rockers. 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of John Howie Jr.’s iconic career as a band leader/singer/songwriter, from the legendary Two Dollar Pistols through to the Rosewood Bluff, with a 2018 solo album thrown in for good measure.
Howie has built a legacy of authentic, roots-driven country music. The Rosewood Bluff’s five-piece lineup features Nathan Golub on pedal steel guitar, Tim Shearer on electric guitar, Mark Connor on bass, Dave Hartman (Southern Culture on the Skids) on drums, and Howie on rhythm guitar, with the whole outfit fueled by his rich baritone on lead vocals. Their sound shifts effortlessly between honkytonk shuffles, driving country-rock numbers, and deep soul ballads.
The album’s 12 tracks explore the struggles and resilience of underdogs navigating life’s complexities. With heartfelt storytelling, The Return of… reaffirms Howie’s place as a master of honky-tonk, offering hope and grit for these challenging times. The album is set for release on April 18th.

The music of the newly re-branded Kinsella & Pulse, LLC—previous albums by the duo were released as Good Fuck and simply Tim Kinsella & Jenny Pulse—contains some of the most forward-thinking postmodern pop of the past decade. Their latest, Open ing Night, follows 2023’s acclaimed Giddy Skelter and delivers a tantalizing left turn that finds the maverick experimentalists’ restless imaginations and formidable skills undiminished.
While the meticulously crafted audio mosaic Giddy Skelter showcased the duo’s innovative production and skillful sound design, Open ing Night offers listeners a more natural perspective. The fruits of this strategy can be heard, in particular, throughout the entire first half of Open ing Night, a five-part suite recorded in one uninterrupted take that plays more like a well-curated DJ set than a traditional album side.
Kinsella & Pulse, LLC arrived at this approach following a four-month tour across the US and the UK abetted by multi-instrumentalist Theo Katsaounis, who had performed alongside Kinsella in Joan of Arc. Fresh from the road, the band de-camped to Sudestudio studios in southern Italy, taking full advantage of the studio’s collection of vintage gear and instruments.
Upon returning to their hometown of Chicago, the band reconnected with longtime collaborator Cooper Crain at the famed Electrical Audio to record additional tunes for the album and add overdubs to the Sudestudio tracks, inventively using the studio to pay homage Steve Albini’s iconic drum sound by re-amping their Roland drum machines through speakers.
Throughout Open ing Night, songs move in unexpected directions, with hairpin, almost prog-like jump-cuts into breakbeats, field recordings, and studio chatter. Elsewhere, cathartic, Fugazi-worthy anthems collide with vintage Farfisas and 808s, and long outros disintegrate into interludes like the brief but bracing “Brutal”, which sounds a bit like Kevin Drumm deconstructing Konono No.1. This segues, improbably, into “Watch and See,” which begins like the band is about to dive headfirst into a cover of INXS’s “Need You Tonight.”
Open ing Night is the sound of three decades of post punk, underground dance music, and the avant garde culminating in a singular vision of smart, mutant pop, adding to a continuum that runs from Davids Bowie and Sylvian all the way to Shudder To Think and Gang Gang Dance. Imagine if SST-era Sonic Youth had been influenced less by Glenn Branca and the Ramones than by Juan Atkins and The Residents. Such is the intoxicating and irresistible duality of Kinsella & Pulse, LLC, who, with Open ing Night, deliver their finest work to date.

TL; DR: A very long-awaited vinyl debut for Lunchbox’s most adventurous album. For fans of the Elephant 6 label, The Aislers Set, Rocketship, The Ladybug Transistor, The Boo Radleys
Lunchbox's legendary lost album Evolver is lost no more! Sparklingly remastered for the album’s twentieth (and a few!) anniversary and available on CD, cassette and (for the first time) vinyl, this psychedelic masterpiece fills a crucial hole in the band's discography. Recorded in the couple's 1990s Oakland basement between stays in Berlin, tour dates in London, and dreamy sojourns up the rugged Mendocino coastline, Evolver fuses jangle and jungle, ambient and dub into a striking pop statement. Marrying refined songcraft to the serendipitous magic hidden in half-broken reel-to-reel tape decks and vintage synthesizers, the Evolver plants its pop flag on the terrain of magic and mystery. Dreamy jangle pop gems emerge seamlessly out of a sea of loops, drones, and dubbed-out horn fanfares, cascades of tape echo feedback and whispers from outer space providing a trance-inducing backdrop to the pop sensibility for which Lunchbox is well-known. Hook-filled and hypnotic, Evolver is a sublime slice of postpop psychedelia that you won't want to miss.
For this special and long-overdue reissue we've raided the bands vaults for three previously unreleased tunes that add extra dimensions to the album's uniquely trippy flow. And for the vinyl heads we're pressing this as a double LP for maximum fidelity and playability, including a *vinyl-only* fourth side of beats, loops, interludes and puzzling aural ephemera, all taken directly from the original master tapes. Super cool!

RIYL: Brian Jonestown Massacre, Velvet Underground, TOY, John Cale, Wire, Dome.
In this post Sounds world, the boundaries of Post Punk have not only broadened but splintered. And over the course of (now) four releases, Index For Working Musik have seen to using the sprawling boundaries to great effect, flexing a polyglot of styles to convey the language of the moment. On Which Direction Goes The Beam, the murky, distant ambience that was 2023's Indexé has been fleshed out, incorporating everything from the Brian Aldiss laced, ground lightning shudder of Dome, to the chamber-like arrangements of This Kind Of Punishment. There's even a candle flickering in the window for Think Fellers Union Local 282 that warmed these ears. And if you’re a fan of the great Dutch band, Trespassers W (who isn't?), the collective consciousness IFWM enunciates on here is a similar testament of a band growing more sure footed in the pursuit of not only knowing all the ways in, but carving a few of their own on the way out. And it's discerning releases like Which Direction Goes The Beam that keep us in the hunt. Long may they forge - Tom Lax.

“Om jordens blod och urgravens grepp” Nordvis
From the northernmost part of Scandinavia, Häxkapell presents "Om jordens blod och urgravens grepp," a black metal masterpiece that blends folk, atmospheric darkness, and progressive elements. Traditional instruments infuse the music with primal energy, while subconscious writing crafts lyrics that delve into the mystical. Composed and created by Oraklet, this album reflects the cyclical dance of life and death, capturing the essence of nature's eternal rhythms in a haunting musical journey.
“The Final War Approaching”
Silent Future Recordings
Armagedda’s debut album, “The Final War Approaching”, is a hateful slab of youthful fervour. Originally released by the iconic cult label Sombre Record in 2001, this is black metal distilled to its purest, most unadulterated form. While drenched in lo-fi minimalism, the production is absolute perfection for the material. The piercing guitar leads cut through a dense fog of reverb, while the prominent bass and drums impart a malevolent force – all of which culminates in a sinister authenticity, inimitable and true.
Silent Future Recordings
Armagedda’s “Ond spiritism” (2004) is held in the same regard as the iconic releases by black metal contemporaries such as Funeral Mist, Watain, and Deathspell Omega. Boasting one of the best productions ever to emerge from Necromorbus Studio, the unique tonal quality of the guitars casts a hollow, haunting resonance –impeccably conveying the wistful, folk-infused dissonance. Creative basslines weave through sinister melodies, seamlessly integrated with the minimalist yet masterful percussion.
