Two decades since debuting as the masked-and-nicknamed drummer and vocalist of Animal Collective, Noah Lennox has led so many creative lives, navigated so many different styles, and been part of so many beloved recordings, that it can be easy to overlook just how consistent his creative vision has remained. From landmarks solo albums like 2007’s Person Pitch and 2015’s Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper, to breakthroughs with Animal Collective like 2004’s Sung Tongs and 2009’s Merriweather Post Pavilion, to his boundary-pushing collaborations with Daft Punk and Solange, Dean Blunt and Paramore, all of his work followed an instantly identifiable emotional throughline while influencing multiple generations and genres of artists.
On Sinister Grift, Lennox’s first solo album in five years, he has returned with another statement that feels equally cumulative and unprecedented in his catalog. While his solo records have ranged from starkly intimate expressions of grief to colorful, electronic opuses, his music has never before sounded so warm and immediate. Working in his Lisbon, Portugal home studio with Animal Collective bandmate Josh “Deakin” Dibb, Lennox transforms Panda Bear into something resembling an old-school rock ensemble, playing nearly all the instruments himself and inviting kindred spirits into the process such as Cindy Lee, Spirit of the Beehive’s Rivka Ravede, and—for the first time on a Panda Bear solo album—each of his Animal Collective bandmates.
• Features Cindy Lee, Spirit of the Beehive’s Rivka Ravede, and — for the first time on a Panda Bear solo album — each of his Animal Collective bandmates (Avey Tare, Geologist, Deakin).
• Previous collaborations include Daft Punk, Jamie xx, Paramore, Solange, Flume, and many more.
• Member of Animal Collective, whose catalog has scanned more than 700k+ copies.
• Indie Retail Exclusive LP (ltd) is a Curacao Blue vinyl pressing.
• All LPs come with a double-sided 12”x36” poster and include a download card.

Nothing is the third album from DARKSIDE: nine transmissions of negative space, telepathic seance, and spectral improvisation.
It fittingly started from scratch. On their first two reinventions, Nicolás Jaar and Dave Harrington entered the studio with a clutch of scattered ideas and loose melodic fragments to mold into what became the revered Psychic (2013) and Spiral (2021). But Nothing reflected a search for form borne out of spontaneous elliptical jams, acoustic riffing, and digital levitations. And in a fundamental shift from their first dozen years as a band, Jaar and Harrington recruited their longtime friend and collaborator, the drummer and instrument designer Tlacael Esparza, to become a full-time member.
The outcome is magnetic and hieroglyphic. This album slips through the cracks of convention with serpentine guitars, extraterrestrial static, and cavernous drums. Haunted rhythms, distorted vocals, and uncanny beauty. No band but DARKSIDE could have made Nothing, and in no moment but now.

Tears for Injustice is a new recording of Mdou Moctar’s 2024 album Funeral for Justice performed entirely on acoustic instruments. Sessions took place at Brooklyn’s Bunker Studio in the summer of 2023 — booked as a way to make use of downtime while the band was briefly stranded in the United Sates in the wake of Niger’s recent military coup.
The arrangements give new dimension to the songs, swapping Funeral’s blistering volume for a more intimate and meditative tone.

The beauty of The Devil Makes Three is the way they take an old-time musical genre and, by putting their own imprint on it, turn it into something that lives and breathes anew, passing the torch to a new generation, just as stateside rock fans learned about the likes of pioneers Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly from the first wave of British Invasion bands. With their latest album, Spirits, the band continues this tradition by incorporating their signature punk, folk and bluegrass sound along with country and singer-songwriter leanings.
“That’s what we set out to do. We wanted to use these musical forms to talk about current issues,” explains Pete Bernhard. “We didn’t want to just sing about trains and mining and drinking. For myself, it didn’t seem relevant. Folk music should be about what’s happening now, just as it was when Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan did it. Our music is not just a re-enactment of something old and dusty.”
The song titles alone describe the band’s return to a stripped-down, drum-less sound and songs that reflect the ongoing struggle to survive amid the uncertainties of the current volatile climate: “Dark Gets the Best of You,” “Divide and Conquer,” “Ghost are Weak,” “Hard Times,” “I Love Doing Drugs,” “Poison Well” and “The Devil Wins.” The tracks were recorded at Dreamland, part of a converted church compound outside Woodstock in upstate New York which offered some haunted moments of its own, with plenty of spooky thunderstorms and lightning.
“There’s definitely a theme of ghosts and death running through this album,” acknowledged Bernhard, who lost his mother, brother and closest childhood friend while making the record. “It also has a good amount of political material, a reflection on how divided people are these days, just trying to find common ground. Not being able to perform our music live led to some deep reflections.”
The Devil Makes Three have a very loyal, dedicated and diverse fan base that wouldn’t necessarily spend much time together. With Spirits the band hope to continue to bring together all sides to listen to the band’s take on personal hardships as well as shared struggles.

“I think this is the best thing we've ever done,” says bdrmm’s Ryan Smith. “It's a proper step up.”
It’s immediately clear that this British band have broken new ground on their latest album. “The last album was essentially like a bridge between the two albums,” the band say of 2023’s I Don’t Know. “With that one we knew what we were trying to do but with this one we've fully cracked it.”
bdrmm’s trademark shoegaze sound hasn’t completely disappeared by any means, you’ll still find beautifully layered guitars interlocking seamlessly with purring bass and crashing drums to create engulfing waves, but they are now integrated into a broader, more expansive and varied sonic palette. Being asked to support DanielAvery (British electronic music producer), along with influences that includes Massive Attack and Thom Yorke were instrumental in the band incorporating more dance music elements
bdrmm’s decision to embrace new sounds has also stretched to new collaborators, with Working Men’s Club Sydney Minksy Sargeant, along with Olivesque (aka Nightbus), both featuring on the record.
The vinyl LPis released via a limited pressing of a marble colour version as well as the classic black version. Both vinyl LP’s include an MP3 download code.
Yessir Whatever is 12-tracks recorded over roughly 12 years by Madlib and his bad character, Lord Quas. The LP is packaged with a peel-off sticker - now in a new Silver Foil Edition - revealing Lord Quas's guts.

A follow-up to the Ambience In Dub set that anthologised the early Dub Syndicate albums, Out Here On The Perimeter 1989-1996 picks up the story in the late 1980s with Style Scott coming more to the forefront of the project as bandleader and co-producer, and the group emerging as a live entity, mirroring the trajectory of Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah of labelmatesAfrican Head Charge.
This was also the period of their greatest popularity, with a classic series of albums that combined the best of Jamaican musicianship and the wild studio experimentation of UK production maverick Adrian Sherwood, resulting in music that appealed to ravers and dreads alike. Sherwood has also concocted a special bonus album of brand new version excursions on rhythms from the period.
This box set includes four albums from that period, plus Obscured By Version an album of new productions based on classic Dub Syndicate Rhythms. Strike The Balance (1989), Stoned Immaculate (1991), Echomania (1993), Ital Breakfast (1996), Obscured By Version (2025).

Probably the best known Dub Syndicate album, this 1991 set was recorded between Jamaica and London, with the rock solid rhythms of band leader Style Scott augmented by a number of additional players, including guitar from Skip McDonald, vocals by Lee “Scratch” Perry and Akabu, samples of the late, great Prince Far I, and keyboards from Keith Levene
It also marks a period in which the label was embraced as much by acid house afficianados as hardcore dub heads, with this album becoming a staple of the post-rave ‘comedown’ session. The title track is a veritable On-U Sound anthem, mashing up reggae, tripped out electronica, The Doors and Motown into an epic groove, guaranteed to get crowds moving from the sound system session to the festival field, and all points in between.

Classic songwriting, delivered with a yearning tremor and wreathed in an otherworldly glow. Uncut
Cornelia Murr’s new album drifts through the room like a golden cloud, a subtle yet lush album, elegant and vibey KCRW
the moment you think you've had enough, it's over with, leaving behind a trail of desire to press play, over and over again.
The Line of Best FIt

Cornelia’s Murr’s newest album began with a question: What do I want? The answer is everything, and it’s never felt more urgent. On her first LP in six years, the London-born singer-songwriter delivers her most confident, expansive album yet. Across 10 hypnotic pop songs is a fully realized portrait of a woman and an artist in her thirties, standing triumphantly in uncertainties, asking the crucial questions one needs to sustain a life: How can you fit everything you want into a life? How can you do this if you want so much? But in the spring of 2023, Murr started working with prolific producer Luke Temple (Adrienne Lenker, Hand Habits). Murr and Temple began working together at Temple’s apartment in Pasadena, then recorded with bassist Shane McKillop and drummer Kosta Galanopoulos at a studio in Long Beach.

Richard Russell has introduced the world to several generation’s worth of era-defining musicians. But since 2017, the XL Recordings founder has used the Everything Is Recorded project to prove he’s not merely a visionary record producer, or the founder of the most consequential independent record label of the past 35 years. He’s a visionary artist in his own right, with a temperament so generous that his records are filled with the voices of the artists he’s encouraged, shepherded, or spotlit along the way.
Everything Is Recorded albums are feasts of collaboration, and his soulenriching new album, Temporary, is no exception. The guest list overflows with incandescent talent: Florence Welch, Sampha, Bill Callahan, Jah Wobble, Kamasi Washington, Nourished by Time, Alabaster DePlume, Noah Cyrus. The silvery thread linking all these voices together is, of course, Richard Russell himself, by design the least visible member of Everything Is Recorded, but the only one who could have dreamed up this expanse to begin with.
The theme to Temporary, as the title hints, is loss, but the music is neither dark nor dour. Russell began recording his collaborators’ musings on death and loss early on in the process for Temporary, and although they only survive in two carefully crafted audio collages (“October,” “The Summons”) on Temporary, their power suffuses the record. These are the most luminous and relaxed compositions of Russell’s career, reflecting a late-breaking fascination with British folk that dovetailed, not coincidentally, with Russell’s own brush with mortality in 2013. What is folk music, after all, if not a record of the voices of the dead?
Russell draws on the recorded voices of artists past as guiding spirits: Gyptian, Jackson C. Frank, Shawn Smith, Camille Yarbrough, Molly Drake. His music dissolves the borders between sampled and recorded, between modernity and antiquity, life and death, now and forever. This is how Richard Russell hears the world. It probably explains why he’s built so many beautiful things inside of it, even as the world feels dark, ruinous. He grasps the true meaning of his album’s title: We may be, in fact, temporary. But our longing – for each other, for peace, for love and communion – goes on forever.

The New Album from Blues-Rock Virtuoso Will Wilde
Prepare to be blown away by Blues Is Still Alive, the electrifying new album from blues harmonica virtuoso and singer Will Wilde. This is no ordinary blues record—it’s a full-throttle exploration of the genre, with a powerful intensity that’s unmatched. Will Wilde plays the harmonica in a way that echoes the raw power of guitar icons like Gary Moore or Jeff Healey, bringing his own dynamic and commanding style to every note. The result is a blues harmonica album like you’ve never heard before.
The title track features blues legend Walter Trout, adding another layer of authenticity to this already unforgettable collection. Brave Rival’s Lindsey Bonnick and Chloe Josephine, and Will’s sister Dani Wilde, provide soulful backing vocals which elevate the album’s emotional depth. The album features a stellar backing band, including the seasoned talents of Steve Rushton (Imelda May, Jeff Beck) on drums, Greg Coulson on keys, Bobby Harrison on guitar, and Russell Carr on bass. Together, they create a rhythm section that grooves hard, setting the stage for Will’s electrifying harmonica to soar. The songs stay true to the heart of the genre, but Will’s unique approach infuses each track with a fiery energy and passion that makes this album impossible to ignore. Blues Is Still Alive is more than just a tribute to the genre—it’s a bold statement that proves the blues is as alive and vital as ever.
Prepare yourself for a groundbreaking blues experience— Will Wilde has redefined what blues harmonica can be.

For Peggy Gou, recording an instalment of !K7’s DJ-Kicks series was one of the items on her list of career goals. “It’s the premier class of DJ mixes,” she says. “Some of my favourite selectors have contributed to it.” In 2019, Peggy Gou was able to tick that off her list as she proudly presented the 69th edition of the mix series.
The Berliner-by-choice started working on the mix in 2018. It was a busy time for the then 28-year-old: she’d just scored her first Mixmag cover and her single ‘It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)’ was receiving awards and critical acclaim. Each month she would DJ in 20 nightclubs all over the world. And yet, the goal for her mix was ambitious: instead of trying to capture the energy of her DJ sets, she aimed to create a portrayal of her own musical journey. An 18track listening session that takes you straight into Peggy Gou’s living room where she plays you the formative tunes from her collection. No genre boundaries – she moves across disco, house, techno and electro. No tempo limits – the mix ranges from 90 to 150 BPM. And no age restriction – the earliest tunes on the mix are from 1983.
The same level of attention was brought to the arresting cover artwork, in which the well-documented animal lover references both Korean iconography and the endangered status of the creature of the country's foundational mythology, the tiger. The album artwork shows Gou posing alongside a tiger. "As the first Korean woman to contribute to the DJ-Kicks series I wanted to do something from my heritage," she said in a statement. "I chose the tiger, which is very important in Korean traditions and a metaphor for my personality. As it is not humane to shoot with a real tiger, I and the photographer Jonas Lindstroem used a library image to make a composite. The tiger disappears when you turn to the inside-cover photo, to highlight that these beautiful animals are already extinct in my home country and in danger of disappearing from our world entirely.”
In line with this, !K7 presents this special edition DJ-Kicks: Peggy Gou on tigerfur colored vinyl for the label’s 40th anniversary

Fire, the debut album by Detroit’s Electric Six exploded onto the scene in 2003 and broke dancefloors everywhere. Containing the hit singles “Danger! High Voltage!” with rumored backing vocals by Jack White, and the iconic “Gay Bar”, the album celebrates its 21st anniversary this year. As part of the celebration, we will release a remastered edition of Fire on vinyl and cd, and the cd will include 5 bonus tracks.
Fire was recorded in 2002 and 2003 at White Room Studios and Ghetto Recorders in Michigan with additional work at Abbey Road and Olympic Studios in London. The first single from the album, “Danger! High Voltage” received glowing reviews and Pitchfork said it “drops a hard beat, announcing itself with taut wah-wah guitars before exploding into fuzztone and horns while singer Dick Valentine duets with the White Stripes’ Jack White”. The next single was “Gay Bar”, and the video was awarded Video Of The Year from both Q and Kerrang which helped it rise to #5 on the UK charts. The third single from the album, “Dance Commander” has an epic video which was made by acclaimed director Ruben Fleischer.

Flam kicks off with a cinematic drone, followed by what sounds like water torture droplets, and a cacophony of clocks, and music boxes from childhood, and maybe something underwater.
Something like a title arrives on the aural screen as GTD get down to the kind of business we love them for: that querying conversation between Steve Gunn’s guitar and John Truscinski’s drums and percussion, though here they venture into new territory, as Steve explains—
“This Flam session was open and experimental for us We deliberately did not have a lot of ideas, and wanted to see where a more spontaneous approach could take us. In the studio we were able to set up a few different stations; a synth area, guitar area, drums, and other effects going on in the control room with the engineer. We moved around freely to our different stations and tried whatever we were feeling. We did a lot of listening.”
Are you familiar with the GTD soundscapes? Have you ridden their ebbs/waves/tsunamis to those strange, dreamy, cellular places? It operates far from the smartphone-wielding, terrestrial grind. It feels like discovery, wonder. Things sparkle.
The song “Fin,” for instance. A wistful guitar rides atop relentless subconscious humming. The humming rises. The guitar pokes around. Then it finds its stride, its gallop. Do you struggle with the internal noise, the minute-by-minute swings, the way it can all feel so totally untenable, then suddenly it lifts, there’s levity, even hints of rapture, and how the hell did we even get here? So does this music.
“Conviction” moves celestially, atop a heartbeat. The guitar feels exploratory, as if looking around, taking in. Then something cataclysmic happens, and for a few suspended seconds, we’re in whatever that cataclysmic thing is, perhaps a planet exploding, maybe the Big Bang. And now it’s softening, opening.
“We didn’t have much of an agenda with it and it wasn’t clear what the overall direction of the record would be,” says John. “Listening back to it, I think there’s something like a process of wrestling with transition. A lot of the tunes feel like hibernation or something waiting to be born. It feels like a winter record to me. By the end it feels like the listener has undergone the journey with us. The last tune, “For Ika,” sounds like it’s ready to move into the next phase, as the record ends.”
The next phase, or rather, the afterglow one of the true delights of this record. The way riffs and rhythms lodge in the head and soundtrack and score and maybe even tour guide our inner ponderings. Like halfremembered dreams. Like things we reach for but can’t quite touch.
“John and I put in so much time playing over the years that we developed a language together,” says Steve. “We kept at it and it started taking different shapes. Our past recordings were us going in and playing the pieces we wrote together, and we prepared by playing a lot before recording. That gave more structure to what we were doing. But this session was different and less structured. There’s a wider view happening. We just tried to follow the music to whatever path it was on.”

More straightforward than À la Ô Terre, its predecessor released on Castle Face Records back in 2020, Électrons libres du québec is Population II’s sophomore album. On this LP, produced by Emmanuel Éthier, the three-piece band - made up of singer/drummer Pierre-Luc Gratton, guitarist/keyboardist Tristan Lacombe and bassist Sébastien Provençal - delivers a heavy, psychedelic rock infused with feverish funk rhythms, a hint of jazz philosophy, a burst of early punk energy, and a love of minor scales that harkens back to the roots of heavy metal. With Électrons libres du québec, Population II showcases once again their sharp sense of songcraft and an undeniable expertise in their instruments. This is an album that effortlessly maintains a balance between challenging compositions and instantly memorable melodies.
It’s one of those albums you can present to rock skeptics as proof the genre is alive and well if you know where to look. Montreal might not be one of the first places you think of, but if Population II is any indication it might be pretty high on that list soon. - The Fire Note ★★★★
Psych is meant to be subversive music at its core, and Population II understands that [...] - Exclaim! 8/10

On “Orlando,” the stunning opener from their 2023 LP, Électrons libres, du québec, Provençal’s tones often mutate and morph between movements within single songs—it’s clear he puts a ton of thought into not just his arrangements, but the textures they’re presented with. - Premier Guitar

In early 2020, HUNTINGTONS were set to release their 8th full-length album, ¡Muerto, Carcel, O Rocanrol!, their 1st in nearly 17 years. They were able to play two album release shows before the pandemic postponed their support effort for the album. Now 5 years later, ¡Muerto, Carcel, O Rocanrol! Renacido, is ready for issue. It's this fulllength album completely remixed by Perry Leenhouts at Point Break Sound (Randells, The Windowsill, Travoltas, Geoff Palmer, The Apers) and remastered with updated cover art. The Renacido version finds HUNTINGTONS reborn and ready to bring these songs to the masses in a refreshed way.
¡Muerto, Carcel, O Rocanrol! Renacido is a career defining album that will bring together old and new fans, symbolizing the possibilities that exist after nearly 30 years. “Muerto” (Dead) is where the band could have been, had they given up on their career completely in 2005, when they played a “final show”. “Carcel” (Jail) is where they would be had they continued using the same 3 chords, playing the same small clubs, covering endless amounts of Ramones songs and never branching out or taking risks. “O Rocanrol” (Or Rock-N-Roll) is where they are: doing what they want, when they want, and doing it louder, faster, with more attitude and a deeper meaning behind the songs. “Renacido” (Or Reborn) is the newly remixed and remastered version of the album.
It’s hard to think of the HUNTINGTONS without thinking of The Ramones given their two Ramones‘ cover album releases, backing Joey Ramone for a couple of CBGB’s shows, and members being in CJ Ramone’s backing band. ¡Muerto, Carcel, O Rocanrol! Renacido finds the band building on that classic sound, but finding a depth and swagger in ‘70s rock and roll with technical skills from over 20 years as a band.
HUNTINGTONS’ Rocket to Ramonia was the first full-length released on Burnt Toast Vinyl. Over the years, btv has released a HUNTINGTONS 7”, two additional full-lengths, and the vinyl for High School Rock. This release marks a return to those beginning D.I.Y. days of the label.

Don’t look up! Whistle from Above is David Grubbs’ first Drag City release in over a decade and his first-ever instrumental album for the label and why shouldn’t it be? The suspiciously youthful Grubbs is four decades into his career, with former bands including Gastr del Sol, Squirrel Bait, and Bastro, along with a wild ride of collaborators including Bitch Magnet, Richard Buckner, Codeine, Tony Conrad, The Red Krayola, Royal Trux, Dirty Three, Edith Frost, Mats Gustafsson, Susan Howe, Will Oldham, Stefano Pilia, Taku Unami, The Underflow, Ryley Walker, Jan St. Werner, and The Wingdale Community Singers. If all that doesn’t imply “Trying something different,” what ever will?
We’ve savored David’s singular guitar tone on solo and collaborative releases alike on many other distinguished labels why shouldn’t we have one for ourselves?
Whistle from Above is the first solo collection David’s released since 2017’s Creep Mission. During the 2020 shutdown, David played what he precisely quantified as “a shit-ton of guitar,” more than he could recall playing ever previously. Reinvigorated by this period of enforced woodshedding, he produced a series of new pieces, mostly for guitar, but also a piano composition and an exceptionally eerie bit of musique concrète. These seemed to imply a solo set that would tour marvelously when the time was right again.
Meanwhile, David was reconnecting with the Gastr del Sol archive, as a new collection of old performances was being prepared from extensive archival material. The duo magic of that storied collaboration (released in 2024 as We Have Dozens of Titles) left David hungry to play in this format again as he had recently with Loren Connors, Alan Courtis, Manuel Mota, and Liam Keenan. These duo experiences showed David the path forward to complete this new solo material. Thus he sought out collaborations with folks he’s called “some of the musicians whom I adore most on the planet” Rhodri Davies, Andrea Belfi, Nikos Veliotis, Nate Wooley, and Cleek Schrey and their stunning contributions flesh out Grubbs’ innate, deeply person brand of minimalism.
Whistle from Above is a colorful, compulsive set of instrumental pieces in which David and his chosen collaborators interact amid the steady roll of an expansive landscape based in the hypnosis of David’s immediately recognizable guitar style. Throughout the album, the listener may recall some places visited over the years, but will find them as David and his traveling companions have as well changed again, reactivated in a new light.
After a near-total silence of twenty years, Edith Frost is back again, and in full bloom with In Space . Her first new record since 2005’s It’s a Game is just in time the world needs Edith’s voice back in the conversation.
And her ineffable way with a tune
It seems Edith needed something, too: from the notebooks of her long hiatus, a line like “I say too much/I wait too long/I wait forever/ And notice that it’s gone” speaks volumes about feelings of lack. Overwhelmed by the demands of day-to-day living and the details and anxieties that always come, Edith squirreled herself away for as long as she could only to find herself isolated, spun even farther into the doldrums. In Space isn’t simply a song-cum-album title so much as very real exploration of the remote place she’d found herself, with her songs registering this recognition and measuring the vast distances between herself, the life that is and the life that was. It was the only way back in!
Over the years away, Edith was immersed in music everyday, and spent lots of time learning in addition to new lyric perspectives, her reinvention of herself as a keyboard player is one of the waves lifting the album In Space
The keys suggested different places within Edith’s harmonic palette; for us listening, this attenuation seems to create a deep focus on emotional life within the songs and a breathtakingly visceral presence in the performances. Her voice as well, in all its iterations, sounds quite fine and vital. The songs, as ever, are low-key brilliance elevated by the vitality of Edith’s voice.
Mark Greenberg, alongside longtime Frost A&R man Rian Murphy, brought fresh arrangement ideas to complement the strange-new-world vibe of Edith’s songs. Recorded at The Loft in Chicago, with invaluable contributions from Jim Becker (Califone, Air Blue Gowns), Sima Cunningham ( Finom, formerly OHMME ), Bill MacKay and Jeff Ragsdale, In Space feels like the most Edith Frost record yet made, pulled from deep inside with great feeling, awash in harmonized voices and more often than ever before featuring her own playing. Alternatively approaching and avowing connection, Edith’s crafty songwriting orbits the human exchange with an increasing sense of possibility. It’s what the world needs the most of today.

‘Spring Board: The Early Unrecorded Songs’ is a Martin Phillipps passion project. A dedicated reimagining of his earlier unreleased songs that became his artistic farewell, a lasting legacy, and a reminder of his huge, underappreciated talent. The album has been finalised for release with the love and support of his band, family and friends.
As the subject of an undulating life and times movie – The Chills: The Triumph And Tragedy Of Martin Phillipps – Chills’ singer, songwriter and main motivator, Martin Phillipps spent the last decade releasing studio and live albums while careering into his sixtieth year with typical gusto.
Amid such momentum, Martin was stilling digging through old tapes, searching for the foundations that resulted in global rapture in 1987, an overnight success that took a mere seven years to ignite. These early songs and musings were revisited, revised and finally put to record. As such, ‘Spring Board’ is the final chapter of The Chills, immeasurably significant output.
‘Spring Board: The Early Unrecorded Songs’ is alarming, personal, brittle and at times hopelessly upbeat. This is a man casting his mind back on an esoteric career that led to nothing short of cult status; someone rediscovering his roots, his innermost thoughts, hopes and fears.
The Chills are Martin Phillipps, Oli Wilson, Erica Scally, Callum Hampton and Todd Knudson. ‘Spring Board’ features contributions from Fur Patrol’s Julia Deans, Elroy Finn and Split Enz, Crowded House alumni Neil Finn, Tiny Ruins’ Hollie Fullbrook, Manics producer Greg Haver, Troy Kingi, Shona Laing, Tami Neilson, Dianne Swann (Everything That Flies) and Purple Pilgrims’ Clementine Valentine.

Rats on Rafts descend further into the brooding wasteland on their new album ‘Deep Below’, a darker, slower, eroded sound from the Rotterdam band. Highlighting different shades within the monochrome landscape compared to their previous, more colourful albums: they dive deeper into their psyche, questioning our relationships with nature, religion and each other. Echoes of The Cure, Cocteau Twins and Slowdive seem present yet so many different influences make up an album that only they could create. It sees Rats on Rafts coming of age whilst raising their heads from the underground. Forever drifting into new territory, ‘Deep Below’ is certainly their darkest and most cohesive work to date. True to their analogue recording process, the tape machines, reverbs, echoes and vital new ingredients: the Soundcraft 1s mixing desk (Used by Lee Perry) and the eerie sounding Eminent String Ensemble synth all amplify the authentic sounds of the 1980’s without sounding like a relic.
‘Japanese Medicine’ is a haunting minor chord piece driven by debris of icy chiming guitars, galloping drums and waves of lush synths. lyrically it gathers memories of teenage friendship, littered with cigarettes, life-changing records, punctuated with the dark thoughts and the demons they summon up. Though the band have kept the songs relatively slow-paced and sparse, deeper ruminations of mortality and alienation creep through the cracks.
‘Nature Breaks’, the most propulsive song on the record, thematically locks into this notion, as Fagan meditates on human impulse in the face of abject survival, and how those situations often unlock one's true self.

Two Sasamis exist in harmony. First is Sasami Ashworth, the conservatory-trained classical French horn player, producer, and composer—an artist with a studious approach to craft. And then there is all-caps SASAMI, the fearless performer and protagonist of her three increasingly audacious albums. For Blood On the Silver Screen, these two sides fused for her most epic and realized music to date: the all-out Sasami pop record.
After establishing herself with the poised melancholia of her eponymous 2019 debut, Sasami embraced volume and control on 2022’s Squeeze —touring with a metal band—but her goal on Blood On the Silver Screen was to speak her truth with conviction by singing. Working with co-producers Jenn Decilveo and Rostam , with Sasami as sole writer, each Blood On the Silver Screen track viscerally captures a different thread of love, sex, power, and embodiment. “Pop music is like fuel,” Sasami says. “It’s just invigorating.”
Across Blood On the Silver Screen, Sasami’s lyrics narrate the ecstasies and agonies of being “a modern lover,” she says—writing about “big city dating endeavors” even as she found herself relocating, on a whim, from Los Angeles to rural Northern California. The anthemic “For the Weekend” explores “modern intimacy, where you can get deep without the relationship being defined,” while the irrepressible “Just Be Friends” bottles the dizzying longing that can overtake those in-betweens.
“I wanted to go all out with this album,” Sasami continues. “I wanted to, in my tenderness and emotionality, have the bravery to undertake something as epic as making a pop record about love. I hope it makes people feel empowered and embodied, too. It’s important to not box yourself in.”

The early 90’s were an incredible time for Shoegaze fans, and the 12” EP was the format that delivered the most vital music of the era. Usually just 4 songs, these EPs were released as quickly as possible after being recorded, and had tracks that were often not found on the subsequent full-length LP.
We here at Outer Battery are looking to bring back the heady days of the 12” EP, and what better band to do that with than Swervedriver! Back with their first new music in over 5 years, with 2 tracks recorded with Mark Gardener from Ride and the other 2 recorded by YouTube star Rick Beato, The World’s Fair EP is classic Swervedriver, with Beatlestinged hits like Pack Yr Vision and psychedelic freak-outs like The World’s Fair. This EP, pressed on orange vinyl, is not to be missed!

It’s been 20 years since Hinder’s major label debut Extreme Behavior was released, and we’re still not sure the music industry has recovered. Seldom have commercial and critical success been poles apart to this degree; this record went TRIPLE platinum and scored, what, four major hit singles (more if you count the international charts)?! Yet, critical scorn was unrelenting, one reviewer commenting Hinder “appeal not to fans of music, but fans of high fives.” Which is pretty funny…but this Oklahoma City band laughed all the way to the bank, as songs like “Get Stoned,” “Lips of an Angel” (#3 on the Hot 100), “How Long,” and “Better Than Me” were worldwide hits. Part of this was due to the undeniable charisma of lead vocalist Austin John Winkler; producer Brian Howes also deserves credit for co-writing the songs. But a big part of Hinder’s allure (aside from the fetching cover photo taken straight from the cover of the book How to Tell a Naked Man What to Do: Sex Advice from a Woman Who Knows) was the band’s devil-may-care attitude. Fans of Jackass found their party-hearty soundtrack right here; Extreme Behavior is good, unclean fun. Remastered for its firstever vinyl reissue on its 20th birthday by Mike Milchner from Sonic Vision, and pressed in blackberry vinyl!

Forget about seeing—any film with a Cliff Martinez soundtrack is a film worth hearing! The ex-Red Hot Chili Pepper excels in creating sparse, unsettling scores… that’s why he is the go-to for directors like Steven Soderbergh (Sex, Lies, and Videotape; Solaris; Contagion; Traffic) and, of course, Nicolas Winding Refn, for whom Martinez scored Drive, Only God Forgives, and this film, 2016’s The Neon Demon Martinez himself described the first half of this fashion model freakfest of a film as “a melodrama like Valley of the Dolls, and the second half is like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” and for that mindbending blend he composed a hypnotic, electronic masterpiece in the grand tradition of such European masters as Goblin, Vangelis, and Tangerine Dream. That’s not all our special, 2-LP edition offers, however: here, for the first time on vinyl, is the LONG version of Julian Winding’s “Demon Dance,” along with tracks by Sweet Tempest and Sia (“Waving Goodbye”). Add to that a gatefold jacket, two full-color inner sleeves, and a pink with blue and purple splatter pressing, and you’ll find that playing the soundtrack to The Neon Demon is, in its own way, every bit the kaleidoscopic experience that watching it is. Limited to 900 copies!

Yeah, legendary drummer Ginger Baker was in a trio with Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce. But would it be sacrilege to suggest that perhaps that outfit was the not the, ahem, cream of the crop when it comes his career’s musical threesomes? For the Ginger Baker Trio, first heard on the 1994 album Going Back Home, featured Charlie Haden on bass and Bill Frisell on guitar! And that record lived up to its pedigree with a fascinating blend of British folk, Arabic-tinged melodies, and jazz, propelled by Baker’s astonishing jazz chops on his double bass kit (punctuated by some of his trademark tom-tom fills) and shot through with Haden’s melodic bass work and those impressionistic guitar textures that could only come from a Frisell axe. In short, if you’re a fan of any of these three guys, this album’s a must, and we’ve had it remastered for vinyl (by Mike Milchner at Sonic Vision) for its LP debut. Pressed on forest green vinyl and housed in a jacket with printed insert…limited to 1250 copies!
STREET DATE: MARCH 7, 2025
Lee Hazlewood made his bones producing and cowriting with guitarist Duane Eddy during the ‘50s, and then cemented his immortality with the classic sides he produced for Nancy Sinatra during the ‘60s. Over the past few decades, though, attention has turned to Lee’s idiosyncratic solo work, the heart of which he recorded for the Reprise label and his own LHI Records. Issued in 1968, Love and Other Crimes is one of his Reprise releases, and it’s one of the weirdest records in his entire catalog. Recorded in Paris with such legendary Wrecking Crew members as guitarist James Burton and drummer Hal Blaine, Hazlewood sounds every bit the bon vivant (read: half drunk) as he swings from country ballads to lightly psychedelic pop highlighted by his rockin’ cover of Bonnie Dobson’s “Morning Dew.” Other highlights include “Rosacoke Street,” which presents him at his most psychedelic lounge lizard-esque, (think a Hunter Thompson character from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) and his moving “Wait and See,” an apology for bad behavior to an absent lover. We’ve enlisted Mike Milchner to remaster this one for vinyl… don’t miss Lee’s stream-of-consciousness back cover notes, either. Pressed in sea blue vinyl limited to 1000 copies!

STREET DATE: MARCH 7, 2025
The late, great Calvin Keys’1971 debut album for the Black Jazz Records label announced the arrival of a new star in the jazz guitar firmament. Keys had spent the ‘60s backing up the crème de la crème of jazz organists—Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Jack McDuff, Richard “Groove” Holmes—but for his first record as a leader, he was eager to play with a piano player instead. So he recruited one of the best—Larry Nash, who, besides being a member of the L.A. Express, played with everybody from Eddie Harris to Bill Withers to Etta James. Bassist Lawrence Evans, drummer Bob Braye, and flautist-songwriter Owen Marshall rounded out the group on Shawn-Neeq, which might remind some of Pat Metheny’s early work (Metheny acknowledges Keys as an influence), or Grant Green. But what gives Shawn-Neeq extra depth is that it comes from the heart; as Keys says in Pat Thomas’ liner notes, which feature an interview with the artist: “My thing was, I write about some of the experiences that I’ve had in my life.” Keys became a fixture in the Bay Area jazz scene before he passed in April 2024; this is the album that started his journey. Another gem from the celebrated Black Jazz catalog, pressed in blue with black swirl vinyl limited to 750 copies!
(Limited Blue with Black Swirl Vinyl Edition)
STREET DATE: MARCH 7, 2025
Of all the artists who recorded for the Black Jazz label, keyboardist and composer Doug Carn was the most prolific, releasing four albums for the imprint. 1972’s Spirit of the New Land was his second Black Jazz release, but the first one (of two) to co-feature his wife, vocalist Jean Carn.
It’s the most collectible of the bunch, showcasing Carn’s innovative approach of adding lyrics to jazz standards like Miles Davis’ “Blue in Green” and Lee Morgan’s “Search for the New Land,” while originals like “Arise and Shine” and “My Spirit” soar with spiritual fervor on the wings of his wife’s five-octave range. Along for the ride are a stellar cast of players, including trumpeter Charles Tolliver, co-founder of the Strata-East label; saxophonist George Harper, who played with Herbie Hancock and Jimmy Smith among others; trombonist Garnett Brown, who appears on albums by Roland Kirk, Albert Ayler, and Art Blakey among his hundreds of album credits; tuba player Earl McIntyre, whose discography spans from Carla Bley to the Band; and drummer Alphonse Mouzon, founding member of Weather Report. This beautiful, uplifting album also comes with liner notes by Pat Thomas, author of Listen, Whitey! The Sights and Sounds of Black Power 1965-1975, that feature excerpts from a freewheeling interview conducted with Doug Carn himself. Pressed in blue with black swirl vinyl limited to 750 copies!
The Celtic folk-punk band’s third album, pressed on Eco Mix Tobacco vinyl. Featuring a guest appearance by Lucinda Williams, Within A Mile Of Home finds Flogging Molly more mature and polished, but never losing the frenetic energy of their live shows.

Brian Auger’s Streetnoise, recorded in 1969 with Julie Driscoll and The Trinity, stands as a landmark of late 1960s eclecticism, where the boundaries of jazz, rock, folk, and soul blur into a cohesive, genre-defying masterpiece.
Auger was moving The Trinity on from their R&B, jazz beginnings and for Streetnoise, together with Driscoll, delivered a record that channelled their mutually progressive vision. Julie's haunting vocal performances were the perfect counterpoint to Auger’s innovative instrumentation, creating a sound that was both avant-garde yet deeply soulful. “We aimed to challenge expectations,” Auger recalls. “Every track was a canvas to experiment and push the envelope.”
The album’s gatefold sleeve design, created by Ralph Steadman, inspired by William Hogarth's 18th-century satirical etchings, was as groundbreaking as its music. This was not just a cover, it was a bold statement about art and society, perfectly mirroring the music’s blend of historical reverence and forward-thinking innovation.
Musically, Streetnoise is a kaleidoscope of styles including jazz and R&B, fusion, folk, rock and gospel flourishes. "Ellis Island," and “Finally Found You Out” are both intense instrumentals that embody the intense fusion of jazz and rock the group was known for. "Indian Rope Man" is one of the standout tracks. A cover of Richie Havens' original, that inspired The Charlatans ‘Indian Rope’ and All Blues, a bold reinterpretation of Miles Davis’ iconic Kind of Blue masterpiece, on which Driscoll's vocal performance may be the highlight. "Flesh Failures (Let the Sunshine In)" is a hauntingly beautiful cover of the finale from the musical Hair. Auger's own compositions from the opening instrumental 'Tropic Of Capricorn' , to the introspective solo piano and vocal Looking In The Eye Of The World' display Brian's multiple talents.
Celebrated for its fearless creativity across all 16 tracks, the album is testament to Brian Auger and Julie Driscoll’s visionary artistry. It remains a must-listen for anyone exploring the dynamic intersections of jazz, rock, and soul. The album’s reputation has only grown with time, cementing its legacy as a cornerstone of experimental music.

There are numerous near-inaudible layers that haunt every track on Jairus Sharif's forthcoming album Basis of Unity. His decision to embed this whispered patina of faint percussion, voices, and other sounds at the innermost core of his compositions is most certainly unconventional, but this secret world percolating well below the surface ties to various ideas that are foundational to this ecstatic new release—especially the energetic capacity of human beings both throughout life and after it.
The Calgary-based multi-instrumentalist and composer garnered considerable attention with Water & Tools (2022), a record that was driven by Sharif's contemplation of race and identity. The music refracted free-jazz-derived gestures through a prismatic and staunchly self-taught approach. Noise was definitely an ingredient in Water & Tools' peculiar recipe providing urgency and colour to its brusque and decidedly homebrewed sound palette, but on its more meditative successor, noise has become a central element that resonates on the symbolic and conceptual level.
Basis of Unity is a powerful and singular statement from Sharif and the fact that it is nourished by an intensely personal vision of spirituality bolsters its uniqueness on the musical plane.

Ghost Palace
The Burning Hell have been writing party anthems about the apocalypse since before the apocalypse arrived at the party With “Ghost Palace,” the band presents their most joyful collection of songs about death to date, always finding something to smile about in the decay. Maximalist lyrics are underlined with fluorescent highlighter, the sublime snuggles up with the trivial, and surprising twists and turns through pop culture, animal life, history, architecture, and science fiction reveal moments of humour and beauty in the mire.
“Ghost Palace” doesn’t dwell directly on the end of the world. Instead, the songs assume that our time running out is a foregone conclusion, and focus instead on what we might leave behind when we go, what might endure, and what surprises might be found amidst the remnants. “Ghost Palace” offers a densely layered journey, with expertly executed genre-hopping rhythms and instrumentation, suggesting that through community and balance we still might contain the tiny, hopeful seeds of our own redemption

Monde UFO follow the celebrated ‘7171’ album with a trip to the mysterious ‘Flamingo Tower’. In the shadows of the Los Angeles bustling music scene, the enigmatic collective led by visionary Ray Monde create a trance-like fusion of psychedelia and avant jazz, mantra-like evocations, brash moody ambience and passages reminiscent of long-lost library music.
Magnifying Monde UFO’s idea of musical chaos, their early sonic escapades into off-kilter exotica is now elevated with sweeping atmospheric waves of sound inspired by an eclectic brew of Arto Lindsey, Khan Jamal’s ‘Drum Dance To The Motherland’, Keith Hudson, Milford Graves, Marion Brown, Don Cherry and Lennie Tristano.
Cast deep into number theory with occasional quasi-religious touchstones, ‘Flamingo Tower’ bustles with background sounds overlaid with intimate melodies conjuring plenty of suitably strange illusions; a synthetic orchestra plays baroque pop, a guitar is set to auto destruct and Ray Monde’s hushed vocals carry a bracing narrative. It’s an evocative album, one for the heavy music nerds, sprinkled with ear candy and proliferated by mysterious numbers which litter the song titles.
“Monde UFO wander through a humid mist of exotic samba shuffles, shamanic whispers, and reverberating laser beam synthesizers.” New Commute
