Vincent Fenton is a French multi-instrumentalist and producer. Under the name of FKJ, aka French Kiwi Juice, his free and colorful compositions have already conquered a fanbase that extends to the four corners of the world. A platinum-selling artist with over 2 billion streams to date, FKJ embodies a unique musical approach bridging with spontaneity, which he brings to life in live performances designed to encompass his multiple creative aspirations.

An accomplished musician with one foot in the new world and one in the old; FKJ makes soulful, limitless music for a restless, genre-fluid generation. His songs blur jazz, classical music, soul, 70’s rock and experimental beats that combine intricacy and intimacy.

In the fall of 2022, he embarked on a new era by forming a live band for the first time. FKJ assembled a talented group of musicians to join him on tour: Arjun Dube on drums, Seth Tackaberry on bass, and Rosie Danvers, who transcribed his songs for the string trio. From the start of rehearsals, FKJ emphasized the importance of improvisation, a way to counterbalance the repetitive nature of touring and maintain creative spontaneity.

BARTEES STRANGE Horror

Bartees Strange was raised on fear. His family used scary stories to teach life lessons, and at an early age, Strange started using scary movies to practice being strong. The world can be a terrifying place, and for a young, queer, black person in rural America, that terror can be visceral. Horror is an album about facing those fears and growing to become someone to be feared. Throughout the record, Strange lays down one difficult truth after another, all over a sonic pastiche of music he loved as a kid. His dad hipped him to Parliament Funkadelic, Fleetwood Mac, Teddy Pendergrass, and Neil Young. Those influences merged with Strange’s interest in hip-hop, country, indie rock, and house, culminating in a record that feels completely original.

HORSEGIRL

Phonetics On and On

There is something about the bitter cold in Chicago that unites the city in January— the two weeks in 2024 that Horsegirl spent recording Phonetics On and On were some of the coldest days in Chicago that year. With the heating off in The Loft to avoid sound interference, the band was bundled in multiple sweaters and sitting on their hands between takes. Working closely with musician/producer

Cate Le Bon (Deerhunter, Kurt Vile, Wilco) Horsegirl found focus and intimacy in the studio that can only arise when it’s simply too cold to step outside. Abandoning the heavy saturation and character studies of Versions of Modern Performance, Le Bon leads them into new, bright, clear, sonic territories that highlight the inventive nature of these new songs.

After playing together for four years, Horsegirl explores the limits of the trio configuration within Phonetics On and On— what if instead of filling out songs with distortion, they utilized the expanse that the three of them didn’t occupy?

This question seems to be the motivating force behind the record, and the songs are a testament to experimenting with space and texture while maintaining a pop song at the core. New tools help bring this world to life; violins, synths, and gamelan tiles are all woven into the record with complete effect.

• THE FIRST NEW MUSIC FROM HORSEGIRL SINCE 2022

• AVAILABLE ON LIMITED EDITION CRYSTAL CLEAR VINYL

• NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINE TOURING PLANNED THROUGHOUT 2025 - 2026

• ALBUM PRODUCED BY CATE LE BON

• DEBUT ALBUM ON BEST OF ‘22 LISTS FROM PITCHFORK, STEREOGUM, NME, ROLLING STONE, CRACK, PASTE, AV CLUB, BK VEGAN, MORE

• MULTIPLE HIGH QUALITY OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEOS AND PROFESSIONAL PHOTO SHOOTS IN LP CAMPAIGN.

Praise for Versions of Modern Performance:

“One of the most vital debuts of the year... challenging the throne of the classics that inspired them.” - Stereogum

“Rich in textural sophistication, carving hooks from fidgety harmonics and swooning whammy-bar abuse.” - MOJO

“A masterclass in a new kind of classic rock.”

“At their core, Rutili's songs carry a melodic warmth and innate sense of rhythm that makes them endlessly inviting.”

– Rob Hughes, UNCUT

Like a passenger riding shotgun on a road trip, The Villagers Companion offers its own unique perspective and story to tell. Featuring tracks recorded alongside last year’s acclaimed villagers, TVC captures the miles between the start and destination—the faded gas station pit stops, the plastic saint statue stuck to the dashboard for safe travels or luck. It embodies the essence of the journey without the burden of driving—the experience of the ride itself.

The album takes us through the heart of Califone’s magic: reverb-drenched piano chords, electronic whirs, and layers of experimental noise. Guided by Tim Rutili’s abstract, fragmented lyrics—both strange and familiar—delivered through his warm, well-worn vocals, it creates an experience as evocative as it is haunting. Often passing through what seem to be the spaces between radio frequencies, the stations never meant to be heard. Crackles of static, feedback loops, and fleeting signals bloom into meditative moments, with each sound given space to breathe, unravel, and shimmer in slow decay. The result resonates deeply, transforming what might be noise into something profound, hypnotic, and totally immersive.

As with villagers, Rutili and company continue to explore what it means to get lost while surrounded by modern technology. Like a ghost in a machine or a whispered prayer stuck in a telephone line, Califone adds soul—be it damned or saved. And they do so with the kind of transformative magic granted perhaps only to artists a quarter of a century into their craft. The kind that turns a photograph into a tableau, or any darkened space with a microphone into a makeshift confessional. A song into a hymn, and a hymn into a soundtrack to a life.

“The Delines’way with romance is all their own and time is suspended as we watch with our ears. Southern country-soul bent, as economical and well-judged in arrangements and execution as they are in their lyrical content.” – UNCUT

Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom, The Delines fourth full-length release, follows romantic misfits and grifters as they drift across the United States, living out of suitcases and cars, hoping that in the next town or city will be the score that saves them. Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom features 11 new songs penned by novelist and songwriter Willy Vlautin, whose lyrics transport the listener inside the lives of these lost drifters. Recorded at Bocce Studios, with longtime collaborator John Morgan Askew, the record features Amy Boone’s lush, world worn voice, the cinematic production skills of Askew, and the horn and string arrangement of Delines keyboardist and trumpeter, Cory Gray. This is wide screen, CinemaScope, Delines at their best.

RICHARD DAWSON END OF THE MIDDLE

OVERVIEW

The title of Richard Dawson's new album End of the Middle is a suitably slippery contradiction, one that invites multiple interpretations: Middle-aging? Middle-class? The middle-point of Dawson's career? The centre of a record? Centrism in general? Polarisation? The possibility of having a balanced discussion about anything? Stuck in the middle with you? Middle England? Middling songwriting?

End of the Middle is a wonkily beautiful peer into the workings of the family unit, perhaps several generations of the same family: "I wanted this record to be small-scale and very domestic", Dawson explains, "to be stripped back, stark and naked, and let the lyrics and melodies speak for themselves and for the people in the songs". By paring things right back what is revealed is a suite of remarkably poised, oddly elegant, beautiful music.

THE PSYCHEDELIA ON TRANSLUCENT FIRED

SHOULD HAVE TURNED INTO MAJOR STARS. DESPITE THE FACT THE BAND S SECOND AND FINAL ALBUM, “ALL THE GOOD THAT’S HAPPENING,” PARENTED NO WINNING SINGLES AND ISN’T QUITE AS POTENT AS THE FIRST DISC, THE PLATTER REMAINS TERRIBLY UNDERAPPRECIATED. TRACKS SUCH AS THE MOODY STUPOR OF “ON THE PLANE” AND THE PING-PONG PULSATIONS OF “LEMMON PRINCESS,” WHICH CARRIES A CHAOTIC CIRCUS-LIKE AIR, ARE DECORATED IN PSYCHEDELIC DECALS, WHILE “TWILIGHT SANCTUARY” FEATURES SOME HARD-DRIVING HARMONICA BLOWING CHAINED TIGHT AGAINST GIDDY BLUES ROCK JAMMING.

THE BAND’S BLUES INFLUENCES ADDITIONALLY PREVAIL ON HONEST RECYCLINGS OF JIMMY REED’S RASPY-THROATED “LET’S GET TOGETHER” AND BUFFY SAINTE-MARIE’S CANDIDLY CRYPTIC “CODINE,” ALONG WITH “FLASHBACK (THE RHYTHM THING),” A RETOOLING OF JOHN LEE HOOKER’S “CRAWLING KING SNAKE” THAT MORPHS INTO AN INTENSE BOOGIE WOOGIE INSTRUMENTAL. A COPY OF MANFRED MANN’S “THE ONE IN THE MIDDLE” WEIGHS IN AS ANOTHER BLUES BASED ITEM, AND “TO TRY FOR THE SUN” IS A STARK AND HAUNTING FOLK BALLAD.

SNAPPING GUITARS, COMPOUNDED BY STRONG AND SOLID HARMONIES GIVE THE ALBUM A STRUTTING GARAGE ROCK EDGE, WHERE SMATTERINGS OF OFFBEAT ARRANGEMENTS AND CURIOUS EFFECTS ZONE IN ON THE FREAKIER SIDE OF THE LEAVES. TO CALL THE ALBUM TRAILBLAZING WOULD BE STRETCHING THE TRUTH, BUT THERE ARE ENOUGH AMUSING AND EXCITING IDEAS TO KEEP LISTENERS AWAKE AND INTERESTED. PERSONNEL ISSUES, PAIRED WITH LACK OF PROMOTION PREVENTED “ALL THE GOOD THAT’S HAPPENING” TO BE HEARD, RESULTING IN THE END OF A BAND THAT DIED ON THE VINE (PUN INTENDED) WAY TOO SOON.

Box Lot : 20

Originally released in 2021 as a book and digital album, imholeis now presented on ecomix splatter-effect vinyl. A welcome reminder ahead of new aya music in 2025.

On imhole , aya distilled the incisive sonic experimentation of her early run of releases, the tongue-in-cheek giggles of her DJ sets and edits, and the identity-fluxing lyricism of her live shows. The album was immediately championed from all corners, 'Best New Music' in Pitchforkto DJ Mary Anne Hobbs Album of the Year, followed by incredible live shows which drew new listeners further into the net.

Contorting language, dialect, gender and sexuality between intermittently controlled bursts of rhythm, noise and aural goop, aya sculpted a set of autobiographical vignettes that challenge established norms, question supposed truths, and affirm a spectrum of interlocking experiences. But while it's wide open and personal, imholealso challenges queer art's tendency to veer towards repetitive solipsism. Even the title itself references the unwieldy mix of self-actualization and sexualization that bogs down cultural perceptions of the trans experience. It's neither one thing nor t'other, just as much a sly nod to dissociative afterparty sloppiness as it is any self-congratulatory pinkwashed grandstanding.

The music follows suit, fragmenting familiar sounds, twinned with familiar words, assembled in unfamiliar ways, full of sharp humour, even in the middle of despair. Stories are muddled with phonetics just as dubstep is macrodosed with microtonal drone

ArmagedDon In A Summer Dress SUNNY WAR

Sunny War, also known as Sydney Ward, found inspiration for her latest album, Armageddon In A Summer Dress, while living in her late father’s 100-year-old house in Chattanooga, TN. She initially thought the house was haunted. Eerie sounds and visions led her to write the song “Ghosts.” However, she later discovered that hallucinations were caused by gas leaks, shifting her understanding of those experiences but not her artistic focus. Armageddon In A Summer Dress explores themes of memory, loss, and the ghosts of past selves.

After the success of her 2022 album, Anarchist Gospel, Sunny spent more time touring with artists like Bonnie Raitt and Mitski. To avoid falling back into past struggles with alcohol, she channeled her energy into music, crafting intricate demos and experimenting with sound. This process involved shifting from acoustic to electric guitar, aiming for a fuller band sound.

Tracks like “One Way Train” and “No One Calls Me Baby” highlight her blend of punk and roots influences, emphasizing the rebellious spirit shared by both genres. A notable collaboration on the album is with Steve Ignorant from Crass, whose participation in “Walking Contradiction” reflects Sunny’s admiration for the band and its critique of modern society.

Armageddon in a Summer Dress serves as a reflection on identity and choices, balancing heavy themes with empowerment. Sunny War encourages listeners to live authentically and resist societal pressures. Committed to continual growth, she sees every performance and song as an opportunity for exploration. Through her music, Sunny War captures the complexities of life, loss, and the transformative power of creativity.

GENRE: Drone / Metal

Wrekmeister Harmonies, the duo of JR Robinson and Esther Shaw, are sonic shape shifters with expansive ideas. From special performances to collaborations the band have worked with David Yow (Jesus Lizard) Ryley Walker, Ken Vandermark, Bruce Lamont, Mark Solotroff, Sanford Parker, Jamie Fennely (Mind Over Mirrors), The Body, Mary Lattimore, Olivia Block, Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu), Chris Brokaw, Fred Lonberg-Holm and Thor Harris (Swans). Inspired by artists such as Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham, and Lou Reed, the duo approach each album as a new sonic adventure.

Flowers in the Spring was born of deep, careful listening as much as composing. It explores music as a meditative practice with a focus on microtonal shifts and intersectional overtones. Robinson explains: “It’s the subtle movements within and without, the fine threads of sound, loud or quiet, interior or exterior that become valuable.” Limiting himself to just four mixer channels on each piece; precisely layering guitar and electronics, intently listening and manipulating either the intensity or the duration of each loop to yield unexpected interactions, moments of beauty as well as dissonance.

“Flowers in Spring” emerges from fizzing distortion, hewing monolithic slabs of drone from the rock face while electronics push through fissures. “Fuck the Pigs” uses layers of noise as it metaphorically shifts into the depths of winter, arctic winds howling while the guitar scars like frost across a windowpane. In contrast “A Shepherd Stares Into the Sun” is pure light and heat, overwhelming in its sheer celestial enormity.

“Flowers Variation” was born of nature’s microscopic subterranean movements in its primordial gloom and buzzing synth pads. Each track holds multitudes of micro sonic details coming together to form the album’s expansive ecosystem.

“Intense, genre-defying” - Brooklyn Vegan

THRILL JOCKEY

Jules Reidy’s sublime music maps the human experience in glittering constellations of sound. The guitarist is a driver of Berlin’s fertile contemporary music scene. A wide-eyed imagination combined with technical mastery guide each work in Reidy’s extensive catalog, from solo guitar albums and collaborations with innovative peers, including recent works with claire rousay, Oren Ambarchi, Andrea Belfi and Sam Dunscombe to major commissions from JACK Quartet and Zinc & Copper. The songs of Ghost/Spirit collectively convey an astral sense of yearning and wonder, pushing towards transcendence. The album charts a deeply personal journey with love, spirituality and transformation expressed in fractal guitar figures, ethereal vocal vapors and rippling microtones.

Reidy’s guitar approach unlocks the tonal and textural possibilities of the instrument from their use of alternate tunings and astute processing. The maximalist melodics of album opener “Every Day There’s a Sunset” are bolstered by rumbling bass samples from Andreas Dzialocha, Reidy’s collaborator in the duo Sun Kit. On “Satellite,” cello samples from Judith Hamann stretch out through the cosmos, orbited by spiraling finger-picked guitars, while stacked trombone chords echo out into the ether. Thundering drum samples from Berlin metal mainstay Sara Neidorf push the album to ecstatic peaks on “Every Day There’s a Sunrise,” fragmented rhythms breaking apart in the atmosphere. Field recordings of the Berlin S-Bahn recur throughout the album, another endless cycle of leaving and returning that shuttles beneath the album’s whirling tones.

Ghost/Spirit captures the inherent power and agency in choosing to offer yourself up to the universe and let go, ego death and prayer rendered in incandescent sonics. Reidy’s inimitable skill as a guitarist, producer and composer is on full display, and when combined with the intensity of experience, the resulting album is a remarkable work of art.

Basia’s Palace got its start in 2022. A new home, a new family, a pause: the singer was finally finding time to hear her own thoughts, to think about old stories, to boot up her Nintendo to play Dragon Warrior 4. The album that emerged from this — that started in dawn-kissed synth instrumentals, lyrics scribbled down in a Hayao Miyazaki notebook — is the softest and most questing of her career. Basia’s Palace is like a time-travel score, with Bulat as Chrono Trigger ’s intrepid adventurer, going back into the past to shape the events of the future. After years of releasing records where live performance came first, the singer-songwriter wanted to express herself in a completely different way, composing with MIDI instead of piano/guitar. Reuniting with co-producer Mark Lawson, she found herself moving through a dreamworld of whispers, synths, early Eurovision tunes — and her great uncle’s gauzy Maryla Rodowicz and Marek Grechuta LPs.

Throughout, Bulat pays tribute to the magic of creation and the spellwork of performance. This is the truest location of Basia’s Palace: not just the Montreal jam-space where she recorded much of this LP; not just her home, her family, or her searching spirit. But those moments themselves — the ones that arrive on-stage, or in the instant of creation — when a song leaves Basia’s heart and leaps onto her lips.

Basia Bulat is a singer-songwriter living in Montreal, Canada. She offers both a distinctive voice and artistry that pulls as much from R&B and soul as it does from classic folk. In addition to her skills as a powerhouse vocalist, Bulat is an accomplished multiinstrumentalist, recording and performing on electric guitar, piano, autoharp, ukulele, bass and charango.

Tim Hill Shades of Green

All the shades of green. Plants. Water. The absolute necessities of life. Music, too, is an absolute necessity. To capture both color and sound in a bottle to put atop a piano like a houseplant. A clock. A fern. Synesthesia. This music is meant for that. To close your eyes and see green. To drown in the color of piano. A melancholic covey that pulls hard on the heart strings musically and lyrically, brushed over with a plethora of improvisation in smooth watercolors.

With Tim Hill’s new trajectory, we are offered a fresh neuron sprawl, branching beyond lyrics in interrupted pieces of sound. He takes our reptilian brains and welds them to our unborn futures, placing us inside of his droplet. Here, we're forced to reflect out, something singular multiplies, nature brings her face in, something shifts, our speed changes, the Self refracts and what's left jumps on sustained lines that eventually arch into meditation milk. It becomes a karmic cleanse of the amygdala, a launch from normal feeling life. Tim takes the risk, committing to diving deeper into his own bottomless pool of art, gifting us with sensory treats that dilate our old perimeters. It's sky as theatre, handing out everything but answers to questions. And where do we go? Where starlight mingles. Where minds never land.

A seasoned musician in all forms, Tim Hill has toured the world as a keyboardist, guitarist, saxophonist, and drummer, with a long time stint with LA group the Allah Las, and well known acts such as Nick Waterhouse, Curtis Harding, PAINT, and others.

"Whittier, California-based ranch worker and known as the touring keyboardist for Allah-Lahs, Hill continues to brew his own craft of cowboy originals rooted in worn and dusty standards." - Aquarium Drunkard

"...the Southwestern cowboy, who hums songs of simpler times. A storyteller at heart, the Americana multi-instrumentalist’s music hits you right in the feels" - Buzzbands LA

"Mournful pedal steel pairs with Tim Hill's perfectly exhausted delivery... I’m a sucker for an album that’s pushing aside serenity in favor of simply finding solace..." - Raven Sings the Blues

HEADLINE NORTH AMERICA TOUR SCHEDULED FOR SPRING OF 2025 COMING OFF OF A 2024 OPENING STINT WITH JOE P

Following the release of her 2023 EP, Hey Anna, a breakup, and a move, Anna’s upcoming album, Someone Should Stop Her marks the start of a transformative new chapter for Anna Shoemaker.

Known for her alt-leaning production, intoxicating pop melodies, and unflinching lyricism, Anna’s music vividly captures the turbulence, charm, and selfreflection of young adulthood. Recorded in Nashville, this album captures her personal evolution as she embraces a fresh, stripped-back sound, moving beyond the synth-heavy production that defined her debut. Much of Someone Should Stop Her was written while on tour and navigating significant personal changes, including her move to L.A. in 2024 and a breakup that deeply influenced her creative process.

This new era is one of non-compromise. Her decision to leave New York for L.A. reflects a rejection of the polished, glam persona she had built in Brooklyn. “I don’t want to be the unattainable girl on stage, in her heeled boots, swinging my hair around. I just want to be whatever I actually feel like in the moment,” Anna shares. She envisions her music as a therapeutic outlet, offering listeners the intimacy of a late-night conversation with a big sister, where vulnerability takes center stage.

4 LPs of unreleased material! Limited edition compiled to celebrate Hans-Joachim Roedelius’ 90th birthday.

4 CDs of unreleased material! Limited edition compiled to celebrate Hans-Joachim Roedelius’ 90th birthday

Most of the music on 90 comes from the 2-track Revox tapes (1968 – 80). Working with his Echolette tape delay and Farfisa organ—the equipment on which Achim recorded his beloved Selbstportrait records and much of the seminal work with Dieter Moebius and Michael Rother—the Revox tapes document the processes and sounds that continue to inspire generations of music lovers and sonic adventurers.

90 is in no way intended as the exhaustive retrospective of the oeuvre of an important artist. The actual chronology of these pieces, and in some cases who might have collaborated with Achim on them, remain a mystery. But the historical context of this music is undeniably compelling—it doesn’t feel like hyperbole to suggest that these cascading, hypnotic cycles equal the best of contemporaries like Terry Riley, working half a world away on their own minimal masterpieces.

For now, a celebration is sufficient—the portrait of an extraordinary life at 90, narrated in beautiful, intimate, innovative music.

What happens when a Prophet meets a Prophet? The answer lies within these grooves.

Amongst the hundreds of recordings issued by Sun Ra and his Arkestra, under their various guises, the majority were recorded in concert or in makeshift studios such as their early 1960s set-up at NYC's Choreographer's Workshop. Beyond those, roughly 22 albums were recorded at Variety Recording Studio in New York's Times Square. However, on August 25, 1986, Sun Ra and cohorts entered Mission Control, a state-of-the-art 24-track studio north of Boston, which was teeming with electronic keyboards and otherworldly sound generators. Nestled within that arsenal was a brand-new digital ultra keyboard — the Prophet VS ("Vector Synthesizer").

Of all the keyboards Ra played throughout his half-century career, the Prophet was one of the most sophisticated. There's no evidence that he had played either of the instrument's earlier incarnations, the Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 and Prophet-10. Created using microprocessors, a then-new technological advance, under the auspices of engineer Dave Smith in 1978, the Prophet-5 revolutionized electronic music as the rst polyphonic and, most importantly, programmable synthesizer.

Ra was intrigued by the Prophet (surely by the instrument as well as by the name). Recorded during a single day, it's about time that these once lost performances have now been found.

It was a joy and a thrill to be sitting at the console hearing this music for the rst time, especially with my ngers on the faders and knobs of the mixing desk. We watched the oxide y o the 2" tapes during playback, making this our one chance to digitize before they metamorphosed into dust. Welcome to the new Sun Ra album….35+ years after it was recorded. The Omniverse has expanded once again.

Love & Hate is a classic 1980s New York story—one that encompasses the downtown dance clubs, the uptown salsa scene, a rising jazz hero, and one of Manhattan’s most legendary recording studios, and that’s just for starters. At its center is a Polish émigré who left his Russian-occupied homeland for the kind of borderless, cross-cultural experiences that are only possible in a place like New York City.

Lamprecht laid down Love & Hate in A&R’s luxurious confines. “It was originally designed to have orchestras record soundtracks to movies,” remembers Lamprecht, “with 25-foot ceilings and huge movie screens.” Jazz trumpet/flugelhorn giant Tom Harrell, who was already starting to make a splash at the time, stands out among the handful of additional contributors, sliding snakelike into the galloping synth-funk of “I Gotta Fever” [sic], the slap-bass slow burner “Ambition,” and the salsa-meets-new wave wallop of “Life is Good.”

“God, Family and Country,” the album’s most overtly rocking track, expresses Lamprecht’s worries for his adopted home. “It was about the festering conservatism that was growing in the U.S. at the time,” he says. “Carter had just lost, and Reagan was elected...you had all those people professing to be patriotic and observant of family and country and God.”

The edgy “State of War” is the ideal soundtrack for those nail-biting days when the Cold War kept people up at night with visions of nuclear annihilation. It also displays Lamprecht’s mastery of minimalism: the only lyrics are the repeated title phrase, which grows in anxious intensity each time around.

Ultimately, Love & Hate is a tribute to the multicolored, many-sided muse that was New York City in the 1980s.

CASH & SKYE JUST A STRANGER

Street Date: Feb 21, 2025

The debut full-length album from the Los Angeles duo Cash & Skye, following their successful 7” “No More Candy” (Third Man Records) in 2021. This alluring infusion of Americana and Rock and Roll, executed with a punk-rock ethos, documents the 7 year musical journey of songwriters Henri Cash and Sophia Skye de Reeder, and features players from Cash’s prolific and beloved band, Starcrawler. Although very different from the raucous chaos of Starcrawler, these songs dive a little deeper into the traditions of country storytelling while still maintaining a raw and honest edge.

This long-awaited chronicle of songs were recorded at 64 Sound in Highland Park and Starcrawler’s basement studio in Pasadena, recorded in spare moments over the years between international tours, college classes, and eight-hour shifts. It explores modern recording techniques combined with classic analog tape recording in an attempt to naturally capture the music in a way that stays true to the sounds of the classic records that influenced them.

New-Hampshire born-and-bred band Say Zuzu are revisiting the sounds of their 1997 album, Take These Turns, which will be released on vinyl for the first time ever as a deluxe version (including 3 bonus tracks) via Strolling Bones Records on February 21, 2025

“Out of all the Say ZuZu back catalog, Take These Turns was the record with the shortest gestation period,” the band explains. “The resulting sound is us feeling brash and emboldened by our leap into the life of a touring rock band.”

“For the entirety of the two weeks it took to record and mix this record in Franklin, Tennessee, we were sleeping on our school bus (“The Bull”) in a WalMart parking lot, cooking on a camp stove, and soaking up the sounds of session players ripping it up at Robert’s Western World on Lower Broad in Nashville. It wasn’t pretty, but we still saw the road as an exciting destination. Take These Turns is the sound of movement, the sound of our band’s musical adolescence, and the sound of a band in tune with the pavement humming beneath its wheels.

Take These Turns (Deluxe Edition) is set for release on February 21, 2025 via Strolling Bones Records.

THE ALTONS

Just in time for the lover's season The Altons deliver "Waiting" b/w "Teach Me to Forget You" - two brand new sides of sweet soul sublimity. "Waiting" the lead track off their forthcoming album Heartache in Room 14 is a moody, mid-tempo tune that creeps along with indubitable swing. With lead vocals duties shared between Adriana Flores and Bryan Ponce the interplay between their unique timbres brings a romantic quality to the music that is absent in many of today's soul offerings. On the flip and exclusive to this 45 is "Teach Me to Forget You", a feel-good mover that features the ever-soulful Adriana on lead vocals. A must for soul DJs and enthusiasts alike!

The Young Mothers Better If You Let It

The Young Mothers return with their third album, Better If You Let It, blending a genre-defying mix of jazz, hip-hop, punk, experimental rock, and electronic music. Formed by Norwegian bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten in Austin, Texas, the band’s sound is shaped by the diverse musical backgrounds of its members, hailing from both the U.S. and Norway. With influences spanning from Texas’ vibrant hip-hop and punk scenes to Norway’s experimental jazz traditions, the band creates a powerful fusion that feels cinematic and unpredictable.

The lineup includes Jawwaad Taylor (trumpet, rhymes, electronics) and Jason Jackson (tenor and baritone sax) from Houston, Stefan Gonzalez (vibraphone, drums, percussion, voice) from Dallas, Frank Rosaly (drums, electronics) from Chicago and Amsterdam, and Håker Flaten (bass) from Norway. This global roster brings together a dynamic, cross-cultural sound, with Better If You Let It showcasing their most cohesive and wide-ranging material yet. Recorded in Oslo and set for release on Sonic Transmission Records, the album is a bold statement, proving The Young Mothers’ ability to push musical boundaries across genres and geographies.

The Prisoners

The Prisoners were a regular live act in London’s psychedelic and mod revival scene of the early 1980s. They recorded some fantastic material blending garage-punk, soulful vocals, and electrifying Hammond organ, but never quite made it. They called it a day in 1986, and most band members went on with new musical projects, including The Prime Movers and The James Taylor Quartet.

The love of the Prisoners’ music has grown ever since though, and the original four members have done several re-unions over the years on stage and released a long-awaited comeback album this year. Their lasting influence can be detected on subsequent generations of musicians, including many of the Madchester bands of the early 90s, notably the Charlatans and the Inspiral Carpets, and serves as a blueprint for Britpop and beyond.

Now we release The Prisoner’s best songs on the LP Hurricane with great packaging, liner notes and rare photos.

Featuring drummer extraordinaire KeithCarlock(SteelyDan,Toto,JohnLegend,Sting)and multiinstrumentalist JacobHolm-Lupo(WhiteWillow,TheOpiumCartel,Donner)as well as up-and-coming guitarist StianLarsen and keyboardists BrynjarDambo(WhiteWillow)and BillBressler, Solstein is a project that melds the groovier side of fusion with elements of prog and funk.

The project was born after Holm-Lupo and Carlock collaborated with legendary guitarist Georg Wadenius on a track for Holm-Lupo’s Donner project. The collaboration worked so well that the pair decided to work together again on a whole album.

Solstein is not your typical 2020s fusion affair. A lot of inspiration has been taken from the funkier, more melodic end of the spectrum, with the band name-dropping TheCrusaders, IdrisMuhammed, early BobJames and 70s HerbieHancock. Given some of the member’s prog backgrounds, there are also echoes of the jazzier side of prog, like Camel, HappytheMan and some of the Canterburyscene bands. Holm-Lupo and Carlock’s shared love of SteelyDan also shines through in a number of tracks.

More than anything, though, Solstein is a playground for the musicians, where everyone was given free reins to do whatever they felt the music needed. If it put a smile on everyone’s face, it was deemed right. The result is an album that is accessible yet adventurous, colourful, groovy and engaging.

Selling points:

 Debut album from Norwegian/American fusion project Solstein

 Featuring members from Steely Dan, White Willow, The Opium Cartel, Toto

 Mixed and given pristine analogue mastering at Holm-Lupo’s Dude Ranch Studio.

 Ads in magazines suc as Jazzwise, Prog Magazine, Eclipsed, Jazzthing, Downbeat, etc.
