Something happened. Between the summer of The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored and the night before Christmas Eve 2023, the music of Hayden Pedigo transformed. Back-to-back months of touring lead to incredible outcomes: First, his chops became more finely honed than ever before, lending a precision and versatility to the songs that would surprise even the most-seasoned Pedigo listener. Second, Hayden lived in these songs, translating them through improvisation and dynamic exploration into emotional juggernauts – instrumental music that sings to the audience.

In C and Rainbow in Curved Air get all the ink (inc?), but its own somewhat subtle way, 1980’s Shri Camel, the last of the three brilliant albums Terry Riley recorded for CBS, is every bit as groundbreaking as its hallowed predecessors. Not content to rest on his laurels as a minimalist master, Riley studied with Hindustani classical singer Pandit Pran Nath during the ‘70s; by blending that Eastern influence with his own experiments in just intonation (where tuning is dictated by equal mathematical intervals rather than the “tempered” tuning familiar to Western music), Riley made an album whose shimmering textures (played through a specially modified Yamaha organ) seem to change with one’s own breath or thought, like the reflection of rippling water on rock. And while Shri Camel is far more demanding and ultimately rewarding than any “New Age” recording, one definitely gets the sense that its ever-evolving, ecstatically hypnotic rhythmic and harmonic patterns are massaging the brain’s neural circuitry, leaving one refreshed, relaxed, and, yes, maybe even a little smarter than before listening. How did Dexter make a TV audience sympathize with a serial killer? No question, it took an ingenious premise, great writing, great direction…and a stellar ensemble cast headed by lead actor Michael C. Hall. But long-time viewers of the show know there was another “character” that played a huge role in the series: the soundtrack. From Rolfe Kent’s unforgettable title theme to the well-chosen Latin-tinged tunes that fit the Miami setting to composer Daniel Licht’s brilliant themes, the score of Dexter commented on the action even as it amplified its emotional power. Special mention must be made of the late Licht’s work, which employed Latin and electronic elements to portray Dexter’s warm and cold sides; among the favorites here are “Astor’s Birthday Party” and the haunting “Blood Theme” that played over the credits in every episode. Pittsburgh’s feeble little horse is a 4-piece band that writes intricately catchy, digitized noise pop songs. Formed by Sebastian Kinsler (guitar, production, vocals, bass) and Ryan Walchonski (guitar, vocals) in Ryan’s student apartment in South Oakland, PA in February 2021, the duo soon added Ryan’s roommate Jake Kelley on drums, and, inspired by a wave of creativity, the trio released their rst EP – modern tourism, in May 2021, with artwork contributed by future member Lydia Slocum (vocals, bass). After o cially joining the band in June of that year as bassist and vocalist, Lydia added her own sweet vocals, rich melodies, and punchy lyrics to the band’s heady mix.

Since Hayday’s initial release in 2021 and reissue in 2022 via Saddle Creek, the record celebrates it’s birthday in 2024 with an exciting new edition. The “Spooky Horse Birthday Edition” features an exclusive 18 x 24 inch poster featuring art by the band’s own Lydia Slocum and is pressed to a very spooky tri color-in-color vinyl.

Hayday’s birthday celebrates feeble little horse’s rst full length album, a cornerstone of their repertoire. Full of dense textures and exhilarating tension, the album’s eleven songs bristle with pent-up energy, the mood ipping between sweet noise-pop elements and more visceral discharges, the whole thing balanced on a knife-edge between the light and dark, the earnest and unhinged.

Following the initial release of Hayday, the band gained momentum with a word-of-mouth style reputation in the DIY scene of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. feeble little horse has since released their second full length album Girl with Fish in 2023. 1992’s ‘Untitled’ brought the band’s third album that re-cemented the duo once again as the progenitors of the “lo-fi” genre. This breakthrough set transitioned "The Trux" into a never ending all-inclusive rotating cast of musicians. Continuing Fire Records’ series of classic remastered albums from Royal Trux, ‘Untitled’ is released on white vinyl and features updated monochrome and silver artwork.

As unpredictable as ever, Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema shook off the next level layering and noise of ’Twin Infinitives’ to embrace the history of rock ‘n’ roll in all its deformed grandeur. Utilizing their ever present mind set of macro-inclusivity, they allowed the subconscious "radio stations" of their lives to infiltrate, lead, and dictate. Culling from their collective minds and memories twisted tunes that touched them. After the blood rush of their much-hailed avant-garde masterpiece ‘Twin Infinitives’ (1988), this eight-song opus added to the lo-fi genre that originated on ‘Twin Infinitives’.

On ‘Untitled’ Hagerty uses his 5-string blues roots and hails rock’s twisted potential, while Herrema slurs and snarls in ecstasy. They sound like they’re locked in a fourth-floor boudoir at the Chelsea Hotel; bottles clink, an album clicks on its run-out groove, the band plays on. In the mix are the characters and casualties of the 90s, a roll call of swaggering misfits. These aren’t superficial sketches, the Trux cut much deeper than that…

Some 7 years into Silverbacks, they say definitively that this is what they sound like. What they want to sound like. “A lot of the songs are new, but the album reminds me of the times Kilian and I spent in the garage as teenagers writing songs together and imagining what our band could achieve,” says Daniel. “It reminds me of the first few gigs we played with Peadar and Emma in Maynooth.

Now that Easy Being a Winner is coming out, I feel I can more confidently say who we are. We’re indie rock. And this album sounds even more like the indie rock I imagined for our band all those years ago.” It’s no surprise, then, that the likes of My Bloody Valentine and Guided by Voices are mentioned as influences. They also love Stereolab, a key touchstone for the aforementioned ‘Something I Know’. Cult Irish band Rollerskate Skinny, indie legends Yo La Tengo, and Mercury Rev are all cited, as is an interesting name: Nick Cave. Daniel says he took some lyrical inspiration from his engagement with religion and imagery.

Paris is another big presence in Daniel’s lyrics. ‘No Rivers Around Here’ is about trying to fit into a neighbourhood, and feeling torn about the changes that are likely to happen to the area in the coming years. Elsewhere lie references to what he saw from his window on Gare du Nord, where he lived opposite a sex shop. Penultimate track ‘Songs About Divide’ is the most mellow of the collection, a bittersweet song about loneliness and lacking a sense of belonging to any one place. It takes confidence to admit such feelings. In Easy Being a Winner, Silverbacks have made their best album yet.

THE NEFILIM formed in 1992 and developed after a fragmentation of Fields Of The Nephilim. In 1996, the only Nefilim album, ZOON was released. Carl McCoy spent four years pursuing his vision and created an aural assault on the senses. Created in isolation, it is a deep, dark industrial album tainted by death metal. A statement of great intent and transition.

As Fields Of The Nephilim was growing into one of the most significant acts of the late eighties, McCoy became dissatisfied with the restrictions of their musical formula. Zoon shows just how much further his imagination was capable of reaching, when freed from the chains of a five-piece band.

On Zoon he honed his vision into a dense, coherent and extremely powerful collection of music, woven together by his genuinely haunting vocals. Musically, there are few comparisons - Zoon takes elements from artists as diverse as Joy Division, Ennio Morricone, Sepultura, Wagner and Ministry, but the alchemy of the recording process has created something unique.

In a 2012 interview with The Quietus, Carl noted that Zoon was one of his favorites. He said “it was another approach, and it allowed me to express some of my ideas without boundaries. I needed to do that.”

Dennis Bovell’s prolific and eclectic career encompasses a huge range of music: from dub poetry to lovers rock to post-punk to disco to pop and beyond. His production work encompasses such diverse figures as The Slits, I Roy, Maximum Joy, Fela Kuti, The Pop Group, Janet Kay, Saada Bonaire, Orange Juice, Golden Teacher, Steel Pulse and more.

This compilation focuses on the period during and immediately after Bovell’s involvement with the Jah Sufferer Sound System, digging deep to find deep cuts and lesser known versions, mainly from 1976 - 1980, plus a killer and lesser heard dub of the iconic “Silly Games”. Painstakingly restored and remastered at Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin so that these decades old tracks sound pristine and dynamic, and sequenced to take the listener on a journey through Bovell’s production and arrangement genius.

The accompanying sleevenotes are a result of a long conversation with Dennis about this period of his life, with track-by-track recollections and fascinating biographical asides. The vinyl and CD versions feature variant artwork, each format utilising a unique photo by Syd Shelton.

1980: Ronald Reagan is elected President of the United States of America. John Lennon is murdered. CNN goes on the air 24/7, already sucking ass. The president of Olympia Brewing is ruined when an OPD Sting Operation makes films of an un-disclosed number of prominent Olympia men having gay sex in the Capitol Lake Public Bathhouse. No one can say "It's the Water, and a lot more!" with a straight face ever again.

1981: Dixie Lee Ray, disgraced ex-governor and former chair of the disgraced Atomic Energy Commission is laughed out of Washington's governor's mansion. Jimmy Carter hands America's keys to Ronnie, who is almost immediately gunned down in the street. 27-year-old Bobby Sands, Independent Republican Member of England's Parliament starves to death in Northern Ireland's Maze Prison, the first of ten hunger strikers to expire. Six days later Bob Marley goes off to join them all, in the past.

MTV and America's first test-tube-baby are born. Muhammad Ali retires. PepsiCo begins bottling in China. OlyWA home-growns *Larry and the Mondellos* sing "Downtown's Dead And So Are You" just before legging off North to Seattle, landing in a downtown just as dead but with WAY more change in the pockets of its corpse.

If the protagonist of Daft Punks ‘Da Funk’was walking around the streets of NewYork City today there’d be one thing playing on their boombox and it’d be Fcukers. Whilst on their journey throughout the Lower East Side they'd probably end up running into members of the band working nightlife jobs as DJs, throwing parties in local bars and restaurants or simply finding the frequency of Manhattan’s beat and locking in. Played as a power trio with Saloman enlists his long-time associate and former Hawkwind bass player Adrian Shaw, and Andy Ward, former drummer with 70s prog giants Camel. With a staggering ten-minute rethinking of Love’s come down anthem ‘Signed DC’ closing the show. After the breakup of popular Denver emo band Christie Front Drive singer/guitarist Eric Richter moved to NYC and started Antarctica with Glenn Maryansky (drums), Ben Zimmerman (bass), Nicole Waxenblatt (keyboards), and Chris Donohue (guitar, vocals, programming).

They dove deep into the sounds of the NYC electronic music scene, revisited some of their favorite musical output from bands like The Church and Slowdive, and worked to meld the two musical aesthetics into something new and interesting. The result was extraordinary! The swooning, syncopated pop of New Order, the dark chill of Pornography-era Cure, the hypnotic pulse of Underworld, and the guitar harmonies of Ride and For Against.

In 2023, Solid Brass Records reissued the band’s full length recording, 81:03, on vinyl for the first time. Sadly, in June of 2024 Chris Donohue tragically passed away. As a tribute to Chris, the band and Solid Brass are happy to announce the first ever vinyl pressing of their debut EP, 23:03. Originally released on CD in 1998 by File 13 Records, these first recordings have been remastered from the original tapes by Collin Jordan at The Boiler Room in Chicago, IL.

23:03 will be available digitally as well as on Limited Edition Coke Bottle Clear vinyl on 12/13/24.
