This handy pocket guide provides an updated listing of all the major venues, together with details of amenities and facilities on offer at each of the establishments covered.

Carefully researched and conveniently laid out, this allinclusive guide lists all the major players and service providers the Kingdom has to offer. Each organisation provides a value-for-money proposition unmatched within the Middle East, if not internationally.

Readers are able to make their selection of which facility to visit, either through the alphabetical listings for all distributors and suppliers and, additionally, by type of establishment for all categories. hina’s Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co. (JAC) has appointed Auto-o’s, a division of Bahrain Commercial Services, as their sole distributor for JAC passenger cars in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Auto-o’s has since launched five JAC models. All the sedan models are developed with the concept of ‘affordable luxury’ and feature leather seats, alloy wheels and a sunroof.

The main attraction is the JAC J5, a 1.8-litre B class sedan. The car has won the C-NCAP 5 Star Crash Test Rating Award and the CCTV 2011 Annual Compact Passenger Car Award. The ‘Best Cars 2014’ readers’ vote put MINI well ahead of the rest to win the import ranking in its vehicle category. For example, when many people think of the Mercedes-Benz brand, they think luxurious premium sedans and coupés for the wealthy. What most forget is that Mercedes is one of the biggest manufacturers of commercial vehicles such as vans and trucks in the world. Everything from refrigerated goods vehicles to fire engines and ambulances are produced by Mercedes, and the same goes for Volvo, Ford, Renault, Peugeot, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi and more.

And then there are the brands that solely produce commercial vehicles, of which there are many Scania, Hino, Iveco, MAN, Mack, Kenworth, and so on.

Commercial vehicles are vital to a country’s economy and infrastructure. They carry out a thousand tasks over and above simply ferrying people around.

You don’t have to worry yourself about things like insurance, servicing, tyre replacement and so on — everything except for the fuel is taken care of. This is abundantly clear when the car needs to go in for service and they simply give you another one, instead of you having to go for a day or two without a car while yours is in the garage.

he purchase price of a car is only the first financial cost of owning one. You then have to take into consideration annual insurance costs, fuel consumption and, perhaps most importantly, automobile servicing and maintenance.

For example, there is no point in stretching your finances to the maximum to buy that premium brand luxury model you’ve always wanted if, the first time you take it in for a service, the prices cripple you.

Servicing is one of the main costs of car ownership, but is absolutely vital to the safety, longevity and resale value of your car. Maintaining a strict service history, preferably with the manufacturer for new cars, is essential to protecting yourself from mechanical failure.

Anyone who has ever neglected to have their oil levels checked regularly will attest to the cost of massive engine failure, which can often end up with the car being scrapped entirely.

And if you haven’t properly maintained the car, it’s possible that the insurance is invalid and any warranties covering the car are void!

If it’s a second-hand or older car, maintaining it at the manufacturer’s service centre is not always necessary, as there are many

service centres around town that will carry out the work for a lower cost.

However, you should always try to ensure that the parts the garage is using to replace the parts on your car are brands recognised by the manufacturer as suitable.

If not, you may find that substandard imitation parts are being used which could fail prematurely, resulting in a breakdown, or worse, an accident.

Established in 2007 and part of the Abdulla Yousif Fakhro and Sons Group, the Fakhro Motors Workshop is a ‘One-Stop-Shop’ for all kinds of automotive servicing and maintenance. In the past six years the workshop has grown substantially and caters for all modern motoring needs within the Kingdom.

Currently some 600 vehicles pass through its doors every month, and a further expansion of facilities is planned in the near future. The workshop employs experienced and qualified employees who use state-of-theart automotive equipment for both mechanical and diagnostic repairs, as well as body work and repair of accident-damaged vehicles.

Fakhro Motors have also invested in customised automotive computer software to streamline its business operations.

The car dealer might hand you the keys to a new or used vehicle but a lack of available repair and maintenance workshops could leave it off the road more than they might be on it.

Moreover, motoring insurance offers the comfort of knowing that, should we have an accident, all the medical bills will be sorted out.

Bahrain’s roster of automotive facilities enables the motoring sector to deliver anything that we might imagine we could do with our set of wheels. Without such a supportive infrastructure, the industry would struggle to meet our expectations.

When we want our vehicle to be pampered, to look as engaging as ourselves, there’s a grooming centre at hand to spruce up our preferred mode of transport. If we don’t want to drive to a service centre, we can even have the grooming done at our home.

Finding the right spare part can often be a troublesome exercise, particularly if we want to make sure the repair workshop is using genuine parts. There’s an endless list of garages willing to help us to get our car back into working order.

Some of us, however, are not satisfied with our cars off-theshelf; we like to tweak them to our own specification. Fortunately we can find customisation shops that will ‘pimp our ride’, even if it’s just for a bright colour not usually found in a new-car showroom.
