TARRUS RILEY

VP Records releases Tarrus Riley’s essential version of Bob Andy’s 1969 hit “Desperate Lover.” The track was produced by Dean Fraser, the man behind Tarrus’s biggest career song “She’s Royal” and essential albums Parables (2006) and Contagious (2009).

“Bob Andy was without question one of our greatest songwriters,” says Tarrus Riley. “His songs will last forever. It’s always a joy to work with Dean Fraser in the studio, and the history stands for itself. You can hear what went into this version of ‘Desperate Lover’!"

“Desperate Lover” is taken from the forthcoming release of We Remember Bob Andy, a tribute album featuring 15 artists covering the late Jamaican singer/songwriter’s catalog, scheduled for on February 10, 2023 on CD, vinyl, and all digital streaming platforms.

In addition to “Desperate Lover,” We Remember Bob Andy will include all new recordings from Beres Hammond, Luciano, Romain Virgo Nadine Sutherland, Richie Spice, Mikey Spice, Duane Stephenson and others, and also includes an additional ten instrumental versions.

Bob Andy, born Keith Anderson, is celebrated as one of Jamaica’s greatest songwriters, with a catalog including tracks like “Too Experienced,” “My Time,” “Unchained,” “Sun Shines For Me,” “Fire Burning,” and “I’ve Got To Go Back Home,” among dozens of evergreen anthems.

4 RED INK MAGAZINE 4
Reggae star has covered Bob Andy’s classic song “Desperate Lover”

His catalog has been covered or adapted hundreds of times over the decades and forms a key part of the greater Jamaican canon of original songwriting and recordings. Whether through popular interpretations like Barrington Levy’s version of “Too Experienced” or through the rhythmic framework of tracks like “Feeling Soul,” “Desperate Lover,” or “Unchained,” Bob Andy’s melodies and rhythms are woven through the entire fabric of Jamaican popular music across more than five decades.

Dean Fraser, who previously produced VP’s

we Remember Gregory Isaacs, recorded 15 vocal tracks and added an additional nine instrumental versions for the full-length project.

“Great songwriting comes from the heart. It’s also the way in which the poet tells the story. Bob Andy was one of these people who told stories … he would show the kind of person he was, and how the system worked against us as a people. He would bring that out in these songs and make political statements that hit you right on.” by VP Records u

ELAINA BRAVERMAN

Talented Model / Actress from New York City

Actress and model, Elaina Braverman, at only 22 is an up and coming talent to watch out for. She recently filmed the independent film "Saving Ana" directed by June Daguiso, who also cast Elaina in his TV series "Serial Madness." In "Saving Ana," Elaina plays an emotional role as a girl kidnapped by sex traffickers. Elaina can also be seen in a supporting role, in the upcoming thriller "Sweet 18," playing Kathy James. She has an upcoming lead role; Elaina is shooting an upcoming Spiderman fan film playing Gwen, Peter Parker's girlfriend.

Elaina didn't have an easy life as a child and was abandoned by her birth parents as an infant and left in an orphanage in Russia after spending 6 months in a hospital since she was born very premature. When Elaina was 4 years old she was adopted by her parents Jane and Mark Braverman of New York. Elaina's adoptive parents worked hard with her and a speech therapist to teach her the English language and help her overcome the learning delays she had due to being isolated in an orphanage for her developmental years.

When Elaina was in high school her parents entered Elaina in local beauty pageants to help her overcome her shyness and learn to walk and speak on stage in front of an audience.

Elaina excelled on stage and won a few of the pageants which led to her deciding to move on to more serious modeling and acting. She started doing featured background work on shows like "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" in which she was in a scene with Tina Fey and she was on "Law & Order: SVU" playing a model who was a rape victim. From there Elaina went on

to land her aforementioned principal roles in independent films and television projects. With such an incredible start behind her, who knows how far she will go.

RED INK Magazine had the pleasure of interviewing Elaina. This is what she told us.

REDINK: Who or what inspired you to become a model and an actress and which do you enjoy doing more?

EB: My Mom's friend, Tony Award winning actress Donna Murphy inspired me to be an actress. She is now starring in the TV series "The Guilded Age." Donna is so amazing and I wanted to follow in her footsteps. I enjoy modeling and acting equally. I like to do both.

REDINK: Tell us some pros and cons that you have encountered in being a model and as an actress.

EB: Well the pros in both acting and modeling is that you get to wear amazing clothes, and in acting, I often get to wear period costumes. I've done roles in TV shows set in the 1920's and 1950's and 60's. I played an 1800's girl in the hit movie "The Greatest Showman." I loved my period costume in that movie. Continues...on page 10

Hugh Jackman was amazing in that and I also got to work with him when I played a high school student in his HBO film "Bad Education" which was shot at the time at my real high school on Long Island. In modeling I also get to wear gorgeous gowns and cool outfits on the runway and walked in New York Fashion Week for several high profile designers. That was really fun. Another pro about acting which I love is that as I am doing more speaking and lead roles in films and on television I get to portray characters who are very different from myself. In real life I am very shy but not when on camera or when I am portraying outgoing characters. Recently for example I played a biker chick in a music video and that character was so unlike me. I also played the character of Kathy James in the upcoming thriller film "Sweeet 18." She cursed a lot, which I never do in real life, was tough and a major flirt. That's too is very different from me in real life. I got to do my own stunts running into trees and through the woods. I had a blast shooting that film and made great friends on set.

In terms of cons, I really don't have any to mention. I've been very fortunate with my acting and modeling careers and have had the chance to work with amazing, nice and talented people. The only con in this business is when you don't get parts you really want. But I've learned to do my best in auditions and let the chips fall as they may. If it's a part that is meant for you then you will get it. If not it wasn't meant to be so I don't take the rejection personally and move on to the next opportunity.

REDINK: Is it hard for you to be in the entertainment business and finding time for family and friends, how do you manage?

EB:I recently got married to the love of my life and he prefers to stay out of the spotlight, but is an amazing and supportive man. He understands my career and when I'm not working we spend almost all of our free time together.

I also make time for the rest of my family and friends but it's not always easy juggling work and family.

REDINK: What advise can you give to another little girl who want to be like you?

EB: My advice is to work hard,, study, take acting lessons and perfect your craft and the most important thing is to never give up! I got to shoot a scene with

Sigourney Weaver in her film "Call Jane," and I've heard her say that her drama school once told her that she had no talent and look at her career today. If you are determined to make it in the entertainment business then you can't give up or get discouraged by anyone's negative comments.

REDINK: What are you currently working on now?

EB: I will be playing a high school student and member of the choir in a hit network TV show and I am really excited about that and I will also be portarying Peter Parker's l love interest Gwen in an Independent Spiderman fan film. That's a leading role so it will be a lot of work but I can't wait to start shooting that. Most of the movie is being shot on green screen so that should be fun.

REDINK: Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?

EB: I'd hope to be a recurring character on a TV show or an establish film actress.

REDINK: What can we expect next from Elaina?

EB: Hopefully just bigger and better things! This concludes our interview with Elaina. All the best to this beautiful and talented young lady. May you find success with all of your endevors.

LANCE REDDICK

The Voice of Destiny, died at age 60

Lance Reddick is someone who was instantly recognizable as soon as he opened his mouth. He had a voice almost as recognizable as Morgan Freeman. He was the always stoic and very imposing voice of Commander Zavala in the blockbuster video gaming franchise Destiny. He was also the Hotel manager in the John Wick franchise, with John Wick 4 being his last movie. His earlier roles as Lt. Cedric Daniels in The Wire and Homeland Security Agent, Phillip Broyles in the hit science fiction television series Fringe; were equally memorable. He also played Chief Irvin Irving in the hit Amazon Prime series Bosch. One thing all of his roles have had in common over the last two decades was intensity, created by his unique baritone voice.

Lance Solomon Reddick was born June 7th, 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland. He knew early on that he would lead a career in entertainment; however it started out with a love of music. He studied music at the Peabody Preparatory Institute and later studied classical music composition at University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music, where he earned his first degree. He then attended Yale’s School of Drama where he earned his Master of Fine Arts degree, an accomplishment in and of itself. In 2010, Reddick released his one and only music album Contemplations and Remembrances, which featured his very operatic style of singing.

12 RED INK MAGAZINE

In the video game franchise Destiny which is arguably the biggest video game in the world, he voices one of the main characters in the game Commander Zavala. It turns out that Lance Reddick had more than a part in the game of Destiny. He was an avid fan of video games and especially of Destiny and regularly played the game. His character name record actually shows that he played the game the night before his death. His wife Stephanie Reddick posted on twitter about Destiny Fans and said “Lance loved you as much as he loved the game.”

Lance Reddick died in his home of apparent natural causes on Friday March 17th, 2023. He was 60 years old. Mr. Reddick was taken far too soon and had a brilliant acting career ahead of him. His uniquely toned voice will forever be up there with the likes of Morgan Freeman and James Earl Jones. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends and forever remembered by the fans of his TV shows and video gamers all around the world. Rest in Peace Commander. by Michael Devine u

WILLIS REED

New York Knicks Great Hall-Of-Famer, died at 80

Hall of Famer Willis Reed, the beloved former New York Knicks player who won two championships, has died at the age of 80.

“As we mourn, we will always strive to uphold the standards he left behind,” the Knicks said in a statement. “His is a legacy that will live forever.”

The seven-time All-Star spent his decade-long career with the Knicks, where he famously took the court in Game 7 of the 1970 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers despite suffering a leg injury earlier.

Reed became the first to earn regular-season MVP, Finals MVP and All-Star MVP honors in one season in 1970, before leading the Knicks to their second championship in 1973. Beloved by fans and known as "the Captain," he retired

in 1974, having averaged 18.7 points and 12.9 rebounds per game, and was the first player for the Knicks to have his jersey retired by the team.

He returned to the Knicks to coach the team in the 1977-78 season. He later coached and was an executive with the Nets when they played their games in New Jersey and was an executive with the New Orleans Hornets from 2004-07. The first member of the Knicks to have his number retired, Reed was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1982 and was named among the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history during the 1996-97 season.

Captain, you will be missed and remembered by many, Rest In Peace.

RED INK Magazine had the pleasure of interviewing Bernard Moore. This is what he told us.

REDINK: Who or what influenced you to become a swimwear designer and when did it all happen?

BM: Without question, my earliest interest in fashion was inspired by my mother. She used to ask my opinion about her outfit choices when I was as young as four or five years old. My mother later confided that initially, she'd ask my fashion opinion to engage with me conversationally and promote my cognitive thought process. But she then noticed the fashion advice I was giving her was (actually) good. So, she continued seeking my fashion advice. She inspired me then and continues to inspire me now.

REDINK: Do you have a favorite collection you’re most proud of?

BM: At any given time, my favorite collection has always been the one I am currently working on. However, if I had to choose one, I think my black and white collection from a few years ago would be amongst my favorites.

REDINK: Being a veteran in the industry, describe to us some of the changes you've seen in design from when you started to the present time.

BM: As most fashionistas know, fashion trends are cyclical. I have seen color pallets, prints for spandex, and style lines change. Then, just as quickly, change back. So as an industry veteran, I know that any style that becomes old could soon become new again.

REDINK: Tell us some pros and cons you have encountered in the industry.

BM: I have encountered many pros and cons over the years as an emerging designer in the fashion industry. But the most prominent positive aspect of being a designer has been creating a platform to express my creative truth unfiltered. Another positive aspect of being a part of the fashion community is the connections and collaboration we make with other creatives doing their thing. That said, some challenges include getting proper funding to produce and market your collection profitably, sacrificing time away from friends and family to work on your line, and the emotional toll paid given the predictable ups and downs of entrepreneurship.

REDINK: What advice would you give to a young designer starting up in today's market?

BM: My best advice to a young designer is to express yourself honestly, believe in yourself when others don’t, and allow yourself to “suck” at your craft starting off because none of us are born experts at anything. But if you commit yourself to your work. Learn your craft as if it were your religion. You’ll put yourself in the best possible position to realize your dream of becoming a professional designer.

REDINK: You've worked with many celebrities in the past, what was that like, and is there someone that you would like to work with that you haven't yet?

20 RED INK MAGAZINE
RED INK MAGAZINE 20

BM: Working with celebrities has its advantages. Namely, when working on-set with high-profile people, the work product is almost guaranteed to be of a higher quality than a non-celebrity shoot, for example. And this is because the creative staff (e.g., photographer, MUA, hairstylist, accessory stylists) are usually higher caliber professionals. Another advantage to working with celebrities is the increased attention everyone gets associated with the celebrity-involved project, be it an editorial photoshoot, commercial print ad, music video, motion picture, or fashion show. The higher the profile of the celebrity, the greater the advantage will be to your professional reputation and career. As to celebrities I have not had the chance to work with yet, my list is a mile long. However, it would include A-listers like Beyonce, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga. But the holy grail for any swimwear designer would be a feature in Sports Illustrated (swimwear edition) with one of the world's top swimwear models. A boy can dream, can't he? Lol

REDINK: What are you working on now?

BM: I am preparing for New York Swim Week (NYSW) and possibly Miami Swim. Both are in July.

REDINK: What can we expect from you next?

BM: What can you expect from me next? I plan to continue learning my craft. To push my limits creatively and to

continue to educate myself in terms of gaining a competitive edge as it relates to the business of swimwear and having fun doing it!

This concludes our interview with Mr. Bernard Moore. Support this talanted & exceptional Designer. Check out his social media websites. Twitter @BathhouseSwim

West Coast Rapper Snoop Dogg has released a strawberry-infused GIN called INDOGGO

Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broadus, simply put, is an icon and legend of Hip Hop. With a career spanning over 25 years, he has released hit after hit, and is an ever-constant presence in pop culture. Pisces (Feb 19 - Mar 20)

Aries will sparkle thanks to new energy in April. With the arrival of spring, you will feel a high dose of motivation to exercise, and thanks to your strong will, which you will definitely not lack during this period, you will feel great changes in a moment.

April will bring a lot of energy to Taurus. This spring month will be mostly focused on relationships. Deep contemplation and reflection of things will not be on the agenda. You will be more spontaneous, so do not be afraid to take full advantage of every opportunity, but a certain amount of prudence would be appropriate.

April will be a wild month. Gemini’s moods will change like on a roller coaster, and the need to always have the last word will strengthen. However, this approach can drive away your friends, and they will want to keep their distance from you. So you shouldn't cling to your truth so much, so you don't unnecessarily argue with someone you really care about.

April awakens strong emotions in Cancer, which this sign will not be able to control at the beginning. You can expect an uncontrolled outburst of emotions that can cause significant problems in both personal and professional life. Your behaviour will be mostly impulsive, so during this period, try to focus on inner peace and try to think things through before you say something.

April awakens in Leo sexual energy and unbridled appetite. All the topics that were taboo for you will now open up, and you will start to discover new areas of sexuality. Plan a whole weekend with your partner just for yourselves so that you can enjoy intimate moments without disturbing the tranquillity.

In April, Virgo will feel the need for tenderness and love. You will literally crave a hug from someone close, and you will not be able to get enough physical contact. But during this period, you will start to cling to many things and want everything right away, which will keep you in constant tension.

April will bring Libra a significant improvement in communication skills. You will use it the most in your work, where you will finally gather courage, stand out from the crowd and dictate your conditions.

April will bring Scorpios some emotional instability and an excess of energy. Your moods will be changing, and even minor things might throw you off balance. Therefore, it is advisable that you learn how to work with your emotions because otherwise, your changing moods could discourage your friends and family from spending time with you.

In April, Sagittarians will be in tune with their parental instincts, which will be quite strong this month. So if you have children then take them on a trip maybe to some waterpark or a similar place and let your partner enjoy some free time, maybe he can go out with his friends. If you don't have children, then maybe it is time to start thinking about starting a family.
