MESSINA
Pop Artist Releases Debut Country Album "City Rose,"
Pop artist, MESSINA is making waves in the music industry with the release of her debut country album, "City Rose." Known for her raw and authentic approach to music, MESSINA, born Jennifer Caroline Messina released the anticipated "City Rose" album on August 16, 2024.
"City Rose" is a deeply personal project that explores the heartbreak of MESSINA’s last relationship. Set against the backdrop of North Carolina, the album leverages the storytelling power of country music to convey the intense pain and emotional journey of heartbreak. The term "word painting" aptly describes her lyrical approach, as she paints vivid pictures of love, loss, and recovery through her songs.
The album's lead single, "No Longer Wasted," has already made an impressive impact, amassing over 150,000 streams on Spotify within just one week of its release. This track exemplifies MESSINA’s ability to connect with her audience on a profound level, blending her personal experiences with universal themes of love and resilience. She has garnered a devoted fan base, affectionately called the "Messina Mafia," a nod to her Sicilian heritage and entrepreneurial spirit who are expecting this album to knock the charts.
"I almost had a relapse writing this album. I've poured out my heart and soul into this album." said MESSINA. "I want my fans to hear this [album] and use it as a tool to heal through their own journeys. If one person recovers from these songs, all the PTSD I went through to write it was worth it."
Beyond her music, MESSINA is deeply committed to her community. She is the co-owner of the LGBTQ Veterans Suicide Awareness Program (LGBTQ VSAP), an organization dedicated to supporting veterans struggling with mental health issues. As an Army veteran and a member of the LGBTQ community, MESSINA has faced her own battles with mental health, including multiple suicide attempts. Her passion for this cause is rooted in her own experiences, and she is determined to provide others with the resources and hope they need to find their own path to healing. What sets MESSINA apart as an artist is her refusal to be confined by a single genre. While
critics may question her foray into country music, MESSINA sees it as a natural extension of her artistic expression. Having performed in genres ranging from rap to pop, and even classical Broadway, she believes that no genre can fully encapsulate her diverse experiences, dreams, and imagination.
MESSINA is also actively working on performances, including the upcoming "PLAYTOY Tour" with her friend and fellow artist NICKY LICKY. Together, they aim to amplify the presence and power of the lesbian music scene. They are preparing to announce tour dates after MESSINA's album release. "City Rose" will be performed on the tour. They recently performed a successful preview in West Hollywood on August 2nd, where they also showcased a screening of "PLAYTOY" movie. The debut album and performance by NICKY LICKY is presented by American Nu Networks, with the film directed by record executive Damon Dash and written by Raquel M. Horn. Continued on page 10

Red Ink Magazine had the absolute pleasure of asking Messina a few questions, this is what this amazing, incredibly talented Singer had to tell us.
REDINK: Who or what influenced you to become an artist and at what age did it all begin?
M: My journey as an artist began when I was very young, deeply influenced by the power of music to express emotions that I couldn’t put into words. Growing up, I was active in singing and acting, and it became clear that music was my way to connect with the world, especially as I navigated my own mental health struggles.
REDINK: Tell us some of your struggles in the business, if any.
M: One of my biggest struggles has been battling my own sense of worthlessness and self-hatred, particularly during my first heartbreak. I had to con front the fact that I didn’t feel deserving of love or happiness,
and it was a long, painful journey to reclaim my selfworth, which I poured into my album City Rose.
REDINK: Do you have a favorite project that you worked on; that you’re most proud of?
M: City Rose is the project I’m most proud of. It’s more than just an album; it’s a reflection of my journey through some of the darkest times in my life. Creating it forced me to face my demons and transform my pain into something meaningful, and seeing it resonate with others has been incredibly rewarding.
REDINK: You like to do community projects, tell us about your involvement with those.
M: I’m deeply committed to mental health advocacy, especially as a co-founder of "LGBT VSAP" (Veterans Suicide Awareness Program). As a veteran and a member of the LGBTQ community, this cause is personal to me. I’ve been through my own battles with mental health, and I’m determined to provide resources and support for others who are struggling.
REDINK: Tell us something about yourself, a quote perhaps.
M: “Healing is power. Accept that you need help.” This quote captures the essence of my journey. It’s something I’ve learned the hard way and something I strive to share with my audience—especially those who feel they have to face their struggles alone.
REDINK: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
M: In 10 years, I see myself continuing to push boundaries in the music industry, amplifying the voices of the LGBTQ community, and expanding my work in mental health advocacy. I want to keep creating music that speaks to raw, authentic experiences while building platforms for others to share their stories.
REDINK: Tell us about your latest project.
M: My latest project is City Rose, my debut country album that chronicles the heartbreak of
my first serious queer relationship. It’s a raw and honest look at the struggles I faced, including relapses and toxic patterns, and it’s my way of turning that pain into something that can resonate with and hopefully help others.
REDINK: You like to do community projects, tell us about your involvement with those.
M: You can expect more music that pushes boundaries and challenges norms, especially within the LGBTQ community. I’m also committed to continuing my work in mental health advocacy, creating spaces for others to share their stories and helping to break the stigma around mental health issues.
This concluded our interview with Messina, she is truly an amazing woman with a hugh heart, love for humanity and lots to offer in the music indusrty. Check her out on her social media platform.

JUNIOR CAT
Drops “Rude Bwoy Sumthin” Music Video
VP Records and Ranch Entertainment are excited to announce the release of the music video for Junior Cat’s
“Rude Bwoy Sumthin,” which premiered on September 27. Directed by KD Visuals, the video takes viewers to downtown Kingston, where the narrative of a tense chase unfolds. The visuals call back to old-school gangster movies, blending gritty street realism with a modern flair.
“Rude Bwoy Sumthin” by Junior Cat, known as “The Wild Indian,” is the latest music video to be released from the “Badman” riddim project. The song pays homage to the original outlaw persona in dancehall culture, with lyrics that delve into themes of street credibility and toughness. Junior Cat’s distinctive style brings vivid storytelling and raw energy to the series. Reflecting on the riddim, Junior Cat shared:
The ceramic coating features advanced non-stick properties that no longer requires the user to pre-sea son their hybrid cookware before use (seasoning is
optional). This is likely to prove attractive to consumers who don’t want to be troubled with the seasoning process or who don’t fully understand it; they can instantly begin creating their culinary masterpieces.
“I remember seeing Michael Prophet perform ‘Gunman’ live on the original riddim back in ’82 on Chisholm Avenue, with Nicodemus present,” said Junior Cat.
“Recording on this riddim brings a good vibe because I was trained on these types of riddims from early on. I love rub-a-dub dancehall, drum and bass riddims, and this one has always been a top riddim from back in the day, a hit among hit riddims.”
“Rude Bwoy Sumthin” is a part of the “Badman” riddim series alongside “Selector Pull It” by Olaf Blackwood featuring Shaggy and “Sitt’n Fi Chat” by Spice. All three songs, produced by Shaggy and Shane Hoosong, breathe new life into Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes’ classic “Gunman” riddim, offering a modern take while preserving its iconic sound.

In October, Aries will become creative not only in work but also in personal life. Take full advantage of this ability, and don't be afraid to make big changes. Embark on a long-planned renovation or change your dressing style. Also, at work, you will be full of original ideas and thanks to that, you will become the centre of attention.
October will be a great opportunity for Taurus to make new friendships or even love relationships. During this period, you will be very charismatic, and you will become a favourite among people. Communication will be your strong point, and you will definitely not miss the empathy, thanks to which you will build a deeper bond with some of your friends.
October will focus on planning and important decisions. Gemini will be clear about their priorities, so it is the best time to set your goals and plan how to make them happen. Patience will become your strong point, thanks to which it will be a piece of cake for you to really pursue your goals. At the same time, you will be open to personal development, so reading books on this topic will be a good choice.
In October, Cancer will get out of the bubble, and they will stand out among other people thanks to their unique jokes. You will have very prompt reactions and good arguments, which will dazzle not only your co-workers, but practically everyone will eat out of your hand. During this period, you will become intellectuals whose speeches will always make sense.
October will be a month full of love and good relationships for Leo. You will be brimming with a good mood, laughter and great ideas. You will attract the attention of others thanks to your immediacy. If you do not have a partner, go with your intuition and feelings, which will play a big role in your actions during this period. This autumn month will also awaken your spiritual perception.
In October, Virgo will long for solitude and peace. This month, you will focus mainly on yourself. You have a lot of unresolved questions that need to be closed, and this period will be perfect for that. You will also be inclined to alternative directions, so do not be afraid to go in the opposite direction and visit a seminar, where you will learn new things. Harmony with nature will be very important for you, so do not stay at home.
October will bring peace to Libra. You will be more introverted this month, so your friends and acquaintances will step aside. You will immerse yourself in setting priorities. The artistic soul will also awaken in you, so this period will directly encourage activities such as painting in nature, playing a musical instrument or dancing.

In October, Sagittarians will feel a big need to create and upgrade their homes. The environment where you live and spend the most of your time will be very important to you this month. So whether you live alone or with your partner, you should please yourself and make your dreams happen in this area.
With October coming, Capricorns will start separating from the outside world. You will feel fulfilled when being outside in nature, preferably somewhere by the water where there is a lot of fresh air. You will sort out your thoughts, and you will seek inner peace and harmony. The best things you can do to achieve this are meditations and yoga.
In October, Aquarians should be careful at work because their boss might try to get you and prove that you do something wrong. So do not give him/her a chance and show him/her that even though you are taking everything with humour, you are still perfect at work.
In October, Pisces will take too much on their shoulders, and they will not be on top of it at all. At the same time, you will expect too much from yourself, which will make the whole situation worse, and you will start feeling despair. Stop and realise that you don't need to hurry so much and that it is not productive to do many things at once.
