the workers beyond the statestipulated minimum wages. We also got the CM & other leaders to interact with them. This led to a direct link between workers and me. They got the confidence to approach me. I engage with all BIAC staff, including the bus drivers, house keeping people, security and food suppliers. I could improve the quality of life of the commoners in and around Brandix. Employees can contact me 24x7 on my cell. In two years, we got the company up and running. The workers are now my extended family. The women who were weak and meek earlier, now fight back saying, “Stop it or this will go to Anna.”

Three Es Women are powerful, focused & disciplined. The 3 Es (Educate, Employ & Empower) are the crux of my mission. By empowering a woman, we support a family, by educating her, we educate the entire family and by employing her, we sustain a family. Our target is to provide jobs for at least 60,000 women. I am a social entrepreneur & know the conditions of villagers whose mainstay is agriculture & animal husbandry. Improve their lives and uplift them and we shall see the entire nation progressing. One need not be a political leader to bring about this transformation.

Future Plans Better health, quality education and overall development of women and youth living in 600 villages in and around Brandix India, through employment is what I aim at. Personal note My wife Pragathi is a perfect home-maker and takes care of our children Manognya (17), Vishisth Vaibhav (14) and Vennela (6). We run our home on high ethics. I recall one simple incident that says it all. The other day my wife overheard Vennela telling an underprivileged girl, “My father is very kind hearted. If you want toys, he will buy for you also. He helps poor people.” I love animals. I have a cow- Sambahavi at my farmhouse. Every single tree on my premises has a name. Healthy habits My motive is to make at least one person smile every day. If I fail to do so, I go and interact with my watchman before I hit the sack. Every day is a bonus. So where is the question of not being happy? Life is beautiful.

Greendale-The Complete International School

RIGHT BLEND OF

ACADEM CS, CREATIV TY AND VALUES By Chandrika Mantri

Parents, if you are looking to facilitate and identify your child’s innate talents & cognitive skills, Greendale-The Complete International School should top your list. Apart from adopting cutting-edge technology to help children become better decision-makers, this school also focuses on honing child’s potential and nurturing interpersonal skills. Established in 2015 by Alwardas Group (which has promoted 30 educational institutions catering from playschool to research and consultancy level and pioneered in privatizing education since 1978), this15-acre campus is located in Madhurawada. We share insight on what this ‘not-the-run-of-the-mill’ haven of education has to offer: World-Class Infrastructure An architectural marvel, the 3-floored building, has all the works like airy and spacious classrooms, required infrastructure and ergonomic furniture, state-of-the-art computer/science labs, A/V rooms, and spick and span washrooms, besides transportation facilities and parking for nearly 100 cars. What caught our attention was their ‘Resource Centre’ aka well-stocked library which harbours a story telling room. Crafted by the arts teacher, this interactive room has an alluring backdrop, inspired by the Gardens of Bay of Singapore and features a stage too. The school even inculcates dining etiquette to the students in their 100-seater dining hall. Another 3-floored building, sprawled over 50000 sq.ft., is being set up.

Academic Excellence Greendale, following the CBSE curriculum, plays a vital role in the child’s journey. Right from Kindergarten to Class 10, the teaching-learning process has been specially designed to empower each one to excel in every field. Integrated, collaborative and interactive approaches help the students to apply their knowledge in real-life situations. Emphasis is laid on ‘how to think’ rather than ‘what to think’. Experienced Faculty With a good student-teacher ratio, the teacher’s role in a student’s learning process becomes more effective. In Greendale, this is achieved through an optimal class size and a handpicked team of qualified teachers motivated by their love for children and passion for teaching. This school offers a relaxing atmosphere to make learning fun for your child.

Offering The Best In Sports The massive playground with football, basket ball, volleyball, throwball and tennis play areas, skating rink, cricket ground (designed by an ICC certified trainer), a sand pit for long jump, a 200-meter running track, speak for the schools commitment to sports. A fully covered, indoor swimming pool (3.10 feet) with shower facilities and separate washrooms for boys & girls, and a well-equipped gym are worth a special mention. A 5 feet pool will be added soon. A child-friendly play area, indoor facilities for badminton and table tennis, an amphitheatre and galleries too are provided. Horse riding is incorporated in their sports curriculum, roping in best instructors. Stress Free Learning Aiming to provide joyful environs, Greendale floated an Arts Village, an exclusive and first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, providing students the freedom to paint, sing, dance, indulge in pottery, learn DIY concepts or learn a musical instrument following their interest. Tucked away in the corner of the campus, three hut-like structures with stunning murals serve as the

Arts, Music and DIY and Robotics Studio. Enter the Arts Studio and you will be spellbound with beautiful paintings, curated by the students. In the DIY Studio, the student has the opportunity to open any gadget in order to understand its component and functionality. The child is also encouraged to enter the world of Robotics. A stunning yoga village will have you enthralled. Importance of Value Orientation Value building is one of the most important aspects that educational institutes should provide as it leads to overall development of your child into a complete and responsible human being. Greendale aims at keeping the students connected to their roots by inculcating the basic values of Indian culture, discipline, patriotism, compassion for others. They are taught to extend help to the underprivileged. The school not only celebrates each and every festival on its campus, but also encourages the students to take part in its welfare activities like- We Care and Think Green. Moreover, the school calendar is filled with various events like ‘Kids Can Cook’, ‘Family

Fun Day’, etc., to provide an interactive platform for students, parents and management. Involving Parents Not just students, parents too are considered an integral part of the Greendale community. So, they are invited once a week/fortnightly to have a snack with their child in the food court. It is run on the hill top providing a panoramic view of the campus. Besides, they can also witness their child participating in various sports or even horse riding! Unique Concept Greendale believes in optimum utilization of resources. Hence, it has opened its campus gates to the public after school hours. Yes, one can hit the gym, practise yoga, learn painting, swim or even play chess! So parents, time to give wings to your children’s dreams! Enroll now at Greendale. Admissions are on for the academic year 2019-2020.

Chairman Dr.S.P.Ravindra’s message “Having identified the need for an ultra-modern school with top-notch infrastructure to enable a child to emerge as global citizen, Alwardas Group established Greendale. We are confident that it will cater to aspirants not only in AP but also pan India.”

Sandhya Hospitals

Setting a noble objective of providing quality service and to rekindle light in the eyes that are losing vision and salvaging them from the brink of darkness, Sandhya Hospitals came into existence in 1984 with the tag line Excellence You Can See. Ever since then, the hospital has been rendering service to people with eye problems and created a very special niche for itself in the world of healthcare. The hospital has tended and attended to innumerable cases with great success.

Jeer Singh, aged 100 years, says, “I am a farmer and had a very regular and routine lifestyle. When I was 70 years old, I noticed that my vision was getting blurred day by day. I visited many hospitals in my state with no avail. That was when I came to this facility Sandhya Hospitals. The first impression I had of it was very impressive. After thoroughly examining my eyes, they suggested that I undergo surgery for my cataract. I underwent operation & after that I can see very well. Now I am 100 years old. Even after 30 years of surgery, I can see everything crystal clear. I would like to thank the outstanding efforts the hospital made in restoring my vision. What is more heartening is that I not only got my vision back, but it is crystal clear.”

LEADS BY EXAMPLE

I want to see Vysyaraju develop as an invincible brand, dealing

in multiple trades. My dream is to build a mega complex which

includes theatres and malls,” says Director, Naresh Raju,

PB Jewel Palace. He named the showroom after his parents. He, being the eldest, bore the brunt of the blow the family suffered and saw the hardest times. He recalls how circumstances made him suspend his education with 10th class. He learnt trade ropes, serving in MVP Super Market for nearly two years.

Plans and projects We, brothers, sit together and discuss the concepts and then take it to our uncle Mr.Bhoja Raju, MD, MVP Builders and Estates, whose stamp of approval is imperative. I take up only those projects which I am confident of implementing. Challenges In bakery which deals with regular consumables, we walked into a familiar ground. But hardware was a new ground and I couldn’t make out nut from the bolt. That was when our uncle advised, “The 1st three months are your training period & customers teachers. You learn about products while meeting their demands.” While the three-storeyed shop came as a challenge, gold trade was the toughest. Brothers in arms Our family runs on unwritten laws set by father. We welcome ideas that better the family’s prospects. Everything pivots on positive thoughts. Our father reins us, if he thinks that we are going a bit too fast.

Home & work These two are demarcated. Neither of them spills over to the other. At home, we may talk about the modalities of tours or meetings but never discuss business. Toughest and easiest This is a matter of perception. I never had an illusion that the business takes on full swing right from day one. Each trade has its incubation period. It takes at least six months to break even. Idols and luck factor I don’t set any idols, nor do I aspire to be a Tata or Birla. I set achievable goals and believe in hard work. Best advice When we were wondering if we should acquire property or go for a jewellery shop, uncle said, “Invest in trade that will eventually earn you properties.”

I don’t take them too seriously as they may make us complaisant. Memorable experience The overwhelming response we got for our jewellery unit. Right from day one, the outlet was abuzz. This broke the mandatory six-month incubation theory and this remains etched in my mind. Bonhomie I like to quote the popular Telugu saying kalasi unte kaladu sukham. None of us is petty to feel envious of other. I am proud of my brothers and so are they of me. Personal note We accepted the first proposal that came our way as we believe that girls should not be put to the humiliation of selection and rejection. My wife Radha Kumari is a perfect partner and a good mother to our

technical snag erased the entire recording of his interview. “It is okay. Don’t fret. I shall field your questions once again. Maybe I can come up with even better

answers this time,” says a very stoic Bhadragiri Raju, Director Vysyaraju Jewellers, flashing a disarming smile and positive Badragiri Raju

attitude. He shows no traces of irritation or impatience. That

Progression It was my father’s dream to establish a gold shop. We stepped into the market when people were wary of buying gold. So we set out with an aim to reassure people that investing in gold is safe. The outlet earned quick recognition. Progression I list the pros and cons of venture I take up. If it has 80% positive traits, I can overcome the rest 20%. But if the needle points to 50%, I have second thoughts. There was no looking back for us ever since we entered MVP colony. I attribute this success totally to Vaasthu. Family tenets My father believes differences arise when it comes to food because of varied tastes. He believes each child should get the food of its liking and only parents can provide it. Hence, he asked us to light our own hearth.

explains why he is an accomplished tradesman and how he reached the top rung on the ladder of success at suchl a young age. He can easily charm any customer with his cool and composed demeanor.

Agree to disagree We may not always concur with each other, but we respect one another’s opinions. When in doubt, I put myself in my brothers’ shoes and think. Education I missed out on education due to the financial crunch. But it helped me as I entered the trade much earlier and worked my way up. Those who are more qualified work for me. Hence no regrets. Setback Initially, MVP Jewellery gave us anxious moments. We spent hours to find out what exactly was ailing it. I found the solutions & never repeated the mistakes. Advice to aspirants Don’t expect fast bucks and short-term returns. Avarice only leads to heartburn and most importantly, cut your cloth according to your requirement.

The best of businesses Though the bakery unit was successful, I wanted to try my hands in other trades without leaving that place as I believe in Vaastu. I wanted to go for gold business as there were one or two jewellery shops in the locality at that time. I also got the support of a relative Ganesh. He taught me nuances & finer points of the trade. Best compliment Compliments don’t reach my head. Family support Being with family relieves a lot of stress. You can take risks as you know that there is someone to support you. Personal note My wife Sowdhamini takes care of my two girls Kyathi (in the 9th standard) and Dhatri (in 4th standard). As she absolves me from domestic burden, I have all the time to focus on my business.

KIRAN, TREND

THE SETTER

Annayya’s shirt collar is folded, set it right,” Kiran instructs the

man, who is helping his brother into a jacket, even as he settles

down to an interview. This small act speaks not only for his eye

for detail but also the tender care he bestows on his brothers. Meticulous & hardworking Kiran Kumar Raju, Director, MVP Raise and Raise, is the youngest. Yet he plays a pivotal role in the family and businesses. He is justifiably credited with bringing a unique facility to the region, making the job of many interior designers and architects and the lives of customer easy. He has built his business in leaps and bounds, developing his 500 sq.ft. outlet into a 5000 sq. ft. showroom and reaching his services right from Jeypore in Odisha to Tirupati. Introducing the mint fresh products and the latest trends to the region are the young trader’s penchant and specialty. Shoot by Dhana Vijay

Ground breaking My involvement is seen at every layer. If I am taking a dealership, I don’t stop at studying the product but also study similar products of other firms. I have to be sure of the veracity & quality of the product before I get into a pact. Hard lesson I first set off with a view to make our outlet a one-stop destination for all construction-related components as I aimed at multi-pronged growth. I dealt with segments like electrical, hardware, sanitary and plumbing. But I found the step wrong, closed hardware segment and made it an exclusive outlet for tiles and sanitary ware. Fortunately, I could apply a stitch in time & saved our trade. Challenge The very concept of having a 3-storyed outlet of sanitary ware was a bold step. Competing with the giants who were

well-entrenched in the market for the past 60 years, was audacious. We have toured the country to study the market. We learnt all aspects - right from what products to be sold to what kind of showrooms to be set up. Bonhomie We advise each other only to better the business & not to pull back one another. One might see the angles not visible to the other. We throw light on those spots to arrive at the right decisions. Education Hands-on experience gives knowledge which can’t be obtained from education. Even an MBA degree-holder should start from the first rung. That way I got a better headstart. Favourite genre None of them is a bed of roses. Right now, it is sanitaryware. I find great pleasure in introducing and selling

new products. Our market is dynamic with new inventions incessantly ooding the market. I change the ambience of my outlet every year to display the latest versions against the right backdrop. That accounts for the ten renovations my outlet faced in the past ten years. Luck factor I am a stanch believer in divine power. Our good deeds are always well rewarded. So it is best to follow an honest path. Best compliment I always get them from my innumerable customers. They make me humbler. Personal note My wife Vasavi came, bringing with her a lot of love and light into my life. It was an arranged marriage that paved way to a harmonious journey. Our son Jaihun Raju and daughter Geetha Sarvagna are my best blessings. red | april-may 2019 | 61

Follow the predetermined route and do not let others throw off your plans with their wild cards. If in trade, do not make decisions based on momentary emotions, and do not rush to take risks. You will have bright successful moments. Meet friends more often, but don’t forget about the self-reflective times of solitude. If single-pay attention to your feelings. Married must not slam the door on their relationship.

VIRGO Aug 23 – Sep 22

If in trade, do what you are accustomed to. Do not step back from future innovations as conservative ideas are likely to fail. If employed, look carefully around you. You may find new opportunities to strengthen financial position. Do not seek advice from colleagues. Married will be happy, reaching an absolute understanding with their second half. Those who are not burdened with serious relationships will have to try to win the subject of their adoration. LUCKY FOR YOU: VIOLET, 13

Businesspersons should delegate tasks to someone else. Do not lose control over your situation and do not hesitate to relax. If you are a key player in your organization, keep your ears open and keep your cards close to your chest. Defend your own interests and the interests of those who support you. Regardless of your position in the company’s hierarchy, make sure that your voice is heard. It is really important at this time. Married should not seek to subjugate the partner. Rather, you should give him/her more freedom.

Jun 21 – Jul 22

Employees should be assertive and confident. You have reliable allies who stand by you in critical situation. But don’t jump to conclusions about colleagues. Do not stop short of victory. If in business, your motivation will determine your success. The harder you work, the more advantage you will have over your rivals and the higher your chance to earn profits. Married, you still have a chance to set things right. Focus on your current relationship and pay close attention to your soulmate.

LIBRA Sep 23 – Oct 22

Do not be content with what you already have. Dream bigger. Focus on innovative ideas. Focus and evaluate your capabilities. Those who own their own business should expand. On the other hand, do not for a moment forget that success will be brought to you by your employees, not by machines or technical innovations. Everything in your family will continue to go on as usual. Singles will have to choose between several possible romantic options. Don’t delay in making your choice.

His father Pawar Srinivas Rao worked with the legendary art director and production designer Thota Tharani & a foray into films seemed obvious for Arun Pawar. Interacting with all these wonderful directors has helped me evolve as a VFX artist, writer, and director. Mr.Pawan Kalyan appreciated the work I did for Sardar Gabbar Singh. Finally, I decided to make my own film. That's when I did my first short film Adithi with celebrity couple Geeta Madhuri and Nandoo. It earned me name as writer and director. Director Mr.Maruthi identified my skill and asked me to narrate my ideas. He was looking

The journey My heart always longed for the silver screen. With my educational background, I could have entered the field as an art director. But I chose visual effects. I studied a visual effects/animation course at Pixelloid and soon started working for films. My job needed me to be on the sets and closely work with the director. I used to interact with the actors and crew too. It brought me closer to my dream of becoming a director. I have always been a good storyteller and want to reach people with those stories and make films that matter. Film journey I have worked for more than 100 films as a VFX

for new ideas and I narrated a few scripts. He was impressed and encouraged me. This lead to my first film as an independent director i.e. Saptagiri Express. Mr.Trivikram taught me the power of good language and the nuances of writing for cinema. Mr.Bobby taught me how to come up with innovative ideas. Making the presence felt I knew Saptagiri even when he was working for films like Bommarillu and Parugu. We share a good rapport. He is a very good actor. A mix of all this reected in Saptagiri Express starring Saptagiri. When I decided to make this film, many advised me not

to start my directorial debut with a small film and go for a big film as I knew who’s who of the industry. But I was very clear that I should start on a low key and grow as a director. The film received appreciation from the audience and peers in the industry.

Being in the industry It is a stable industry for the talented. However, one must have patience. With many digital platforms around, showcasing one’s talent is not tough. With smartphones, anyone who has talent can grab eyeballs.

My signature

I love making films on science fiction. However, my first film did not belong to that genre. I want ed my first film to push me out of my comfort zone. I love my films to be a perfect blend of adventure, drama, and action.

Way forward

Vajra Kavachadhara Govinda is going to be my next ick. The lead role will be portrayed by Saptagiri once again. This is a film depiction adventure, action. I have pinned my hopes on this film, which will be released in May. There are many other interesting subjects coming my way which I may take up this year. Hoping for the best.

t was always food that excited the brothers, Vinay Narahari and Vijay Reddy. This passion led them to

establish Ulavacharu in 2013. Hyderabadis vouch for the fact that the city’s culinary experience can be

timelined as pre-Ulavacharu and post-Ulavacharu as there were not many non-veg culinary options

except a few like butter chicken and chicken biryani. Ulavacharu opened doors to traditional flavours, presented in new and innovative formats. The restaurant offers 18 types of biryanis and 32 starters.

Koramnu Tandri Fish

red | april-may 2019 | 34

For fish lovers and also fish lovers who are diet conscious, here is a tasty & low-calorie dish- Korameenu Tandoori Fish. As the name indicates, it is made of Korameenu Fish. Though a bit costly, it is a popular and widely loved species. It is found mostly in the Bhimavaram belt. The dish is made in the tandoori style, using very less oil. So it is at once both tasty and healthy.

OWNER’S SAY We consider ourselves blessed to have been able to create such a dining experience. All recipes are picked from the age old traditions. But we keep innovating to create a better taste. The spices used are grounded fresh in-house. This uncompromising attitude has made us a favourite of one and all. We get a wide range of clients from politicians to stars. We often send our dishes to movie sets, on actors’ demands. It makes us feel good but at the same time it keeps us on our toes because our clients keep raising the bar and expect a lot more from us. So, we strive to meet their expectations. There are incidents when some demand a particular dishlike tandoori chicken or fish preparations. As the chicken and fish that we procure are not readily available, we cannot meet that demand. Our clients love food we serve so much that they don't mind waiting. In such situations, we have got the dish delivered at their homes. The journey has been extremely satisfying as our team also nurtures the same vision. Our chef Pandu and Balaram, never compromise on the quality and taste." VINAY NARAHARI & VIJAY REDDY

Godavari Roalavepudu

Fries are the best sides and the must-have dishes for all South Indian meals. Complementing this indispensable need is the crispy and spicy Godavari Royyalavepudu. Made from the best prawns sourced from the Godavari district, this delicacy resembles the home-made fries.

Raju Gari Kodi Pulao

An authentic dish for all you chicken-lovers! This is a dish that was born in the kitchen of Ulavacharu. Unlike the dum biryani, this is steam based and made in a cooker. The spices are a combination we worked out. It has become very popular after we launched this dish.

Pulusu, the tamarind-based side dish is a hit delicacy. Nellore Chapala Pulusu is a dish made with fish and the avours of Nellore and is cooked in earthen pots.

t goes without saying that human’s love for apparels has been eternal. No wonder, there have been enormous forays by creative artists and craftsmen into the fashion industry. However, this field has seen many becoming successful overnight and finding it difficult to survive in this extremely challenging and competitive industry. Only designers who have been driven by passion have been able to make their mark. Deepthi Balagiri is one of them. A gold medalist in MBA Finance and HR, she has always been fascinated with colours and fabrics. Instead of opting for any other lucrative career, she created her label- Deepthi Balagiri. In a heart-to-heart conversation, the elegant lady speaks about how she designed her career in the world of fashion.

EXCERPTS The stage of ideation I believe in the maxim-‘Each day teaches you a new lesson’ and I must also add that everyone and every situation has something new to give you. So, I observe people around me, study their day-to-day lives and explore the lives of new

people when I travel. I also draw inspiration from our rich history. Creativity of our predecessors, who left behind such a great heritage, paves the way to new innovative concepts. This is a never-ending process. Ideation to implementation I am a perfectionist and I seek it everywhere- whether it is people or material. I instantly connect with such people. When it comes to the time frame, there is at least 2 weeks between conceptualizing and finishing. I need to connect at the very depth of either fabric or colour that is involved, if I have to create and curate a collection. Once this bond is established, the process of crafting a collection becomes very easy and joyful.

I never work with time constraint hovering over my head like a Domocle’s sword. I focus on the quality of the output. The shelf life A design survives till it is loved and appreciated. There is no dearth for motivation and I can churn out innumerable designs. Repetition is a total no-no & you seldom find the same designs in my collection. Of course, there are times when my clients urge me to repeat a certain collection or recreate a design. So, the longevity of a design depends on many factors. It is, undoubtedly, my clients who keep my label alive and popular by coming back to me again and again.

The bright side Everyday is my favourite day. Every time I curate a new collection, I imagine clients appreciating it. This gets me all energized. This store has never been a spot of trade, but a place of joy for me. It is a bliss to have happy clients. A satisfied customer is the best ad. The deal breaker It is important to understand the need of the customer. So, I prioritize, mull over and implement designs in accordance with the clients’ taste. I have fortunately not faced any conicts as we customise outfits as per their needs and wants. Creativity vs. commercial balance We always try to achieve it. The sale or

non-sale of products surprises me. But I don’t get upset. Instead, I get further motivated to create more stunning designs. That boosts my confidence. Social media impact It reaches us to customers and also a platform for many talented people to display their work. Now clients from across the globe contact me through it. Journey with weavers The first fabric that comes to my mind is usually from the weavers. They always stand up to my expectations. I have had the privilege of working with weavers at Mangalgiri, Gadwal, etc. The focus is on buying weaves at the best price rather than exploiting them.

Favourites Contemporary: Tassles | Model: Shilpa Shetty | Actor: Amitabh Bacchan Genre: Romance and history | Cut: Asymmetric | Attire: Sari | Fabric: Silk Colour: Since I love colours, I will say rainbow | Store: Sabyasachi

Words of wisdom I believe in the maxim- Work hard till you don’t need to introduce yourself. And this is my advice to newcomers as we have a cutthroat competition in this field. Love what you are doing, find your way to success and believe in yourself. The other side There is nothing much to say about it. Though I have been a producer of Laxmi’s NTR, I always call myself a designer/entrepreneur. It has been a great & different experience and I am happy with the way the movie fared. Balancing work and life This has never been difficult for me. I make sure I spend time with my kids and husband, besides managing my work schedules. I definitely have at least one meal a day with my family. That is what makes it perfect as they are also busy in their own lives. If you really like what you are doing and have clarity, you don’t have to make any extra efforts to balance varied tasks, it goes smoothly.

Tiny Cuts Fashion in 3 words Inspiration, innovation and statement Describe your style Colorful, comfortable and exclusive When women don your clothes, they should feel… Comfortable and unique If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before the start of your career, it would be… I am genuinely happy with what I am doing right now. So, maybe nothing.

Biggest fear with a new line The collection of Rolls Royce that I designed and before I released it, I was paranoid about whether my clients would like it or not. Craziest dress ever designed Different Titli print on saris Best work Titli collection Overcoming creative blocks Listening to music, shopping, relaxing and thinking again Muse fabric Organza

entrepreneurial journey. Who said marriage holds back women from achieving excellence? She was married rather early, but did not give up on her dream and joined the family business which later led to establishing Shri Shakthi Educational Society, that has been providing quality education in the stream of hotel management.

I owe it all to the support and guidance of my family. I have gained such a good name that now I am popularly known as the first lady of club business.

The institute celebrates its silver jubilee. Befitting the moment, Satya talks how the experiences she gained over these glorious years, enriched her.

The entrepreneurial journey My marriage to Dr.Ramakrishna Pinjala opened an opportunity for me to travel, move to the United Kingdom and start a family. But my desire to serve the country brought us back to India. My elder brother, D.V.Manohar, an entrepreneur, encouraged and supported by our parents, took upon himself to form the parent organization, Shri Shakti Resorts & Hotels Limited. Family World Club, a part of SSRHL was established in 1990. I was entrusted with the responsibility of running the Family World as its Director. Treading very cautiously on this unfamiliar ground, I quicky learned the varied nuances of business. red | april-may 2019 | 40

I started a unique concept, Family Recreation Centre to overcome the stigma attached to clubs. Shakti Resorts & Hotel Limited opened the popular Ramada Manohar, Airport Hotel. Alongside, I had the opportunity to shoulder the responsibility of setting up the 5 star hotel. The first step As we surged forward in the hospitality industry, we always wanted to do something in the field of skill development. The foundation of Shri Shakti Educational Society was laid when the government announ -ced its decision to open education to the private sector.

We realized that this was the ideal way to train manpower for our hotel and the industry alike. We started with the first batch of just 30 students and a faculty of six members. We enjoy the distinction of being the only institute attached to a star hotel. It successfully operated degree and short courses & is affiliated to Osmania University. The National Council for Hotel Management under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, invited private parties to join in skill development. We, at Shri Shakti Educational Society, grabbed the opportunity. NCHMCT accepted our application. A separate Institute was established as Institute of Hotel Management – Shri Shakti and became the only private IHM in AP and Telangana.

Thus, we now have two separate colleges in Hyderabad that take more than 350 students per year.

Memoirs We faced numerous hurdles. The initial years were tough because the student intake was very limited. We continued with determination, keeping our focus on quality education. As we have been in the hospitality industry, we knew that the industry is growing and there would be a huge requirement of skilled people. Our alumni are our brand ambassadors. Our institutes are recognized for excellence in education and awarded as Best Hotel Management Institute by the State Tourism Department and in the reputed Competition Success Review as the leading Institute of Telangana. Now we are having a year-long silver jubilee celebrations.

25 years of experience in the field

Strong alumni base.

Our focus is on the student who is the future hotelier and responsible citizen. Quality is our forte, and no stone is left unturned to achieve holistic development of each individual. Education now and then Earlier, with limited institutes, very few students got the opportunity to pursue academic degrees and the streams were very generic. Now with the boom in education, we have an advantage of more children pursuing their dream of education. With numerous specializations and offbeat courses available, the youth today have innumerable options at home and abroad. Students now and then Students are always students. Well, I must say the Y generation we deal with right now is much smarter,

Tides of change Over the years, a lot of new courses have forayed into the field. One such addition being Hotel Management and we see institutes mushrooming in the city. The growing popularity

confident, talented and socially aware. Their creativity, innovative ideas and risk taking capacity are amazing. It's interesting and challenging to keep up with this generation. The impact of the digital wave Positive to a large extent as there is so much information available at our fingertips. Digitalization has not only shrunk the world but also our classrooms. We must help students to utilize this boon in the most effective manner. The power of women I believe with the qualities women possess, they any day make better administrators and entrepreneurs. Also, I feel gender is no criterion to achieve success. If you have the passion and determination to achieve your goal, nothing can stop you. Way forward As we are well established in Telangana, now it is time for us to spread our wings to other states as well, starting with AP. We feel we need to establish a new college to meet the demands of this state. Considering that there is a lot of scope for tourism in AP, we believe that students would also get good job opportunities.

wo besties, with a desire to start an unconventional fashion hub, laid the foundation of By The Threads, oneof-its-kind multi-designer store in the city. This spacious store, with lavish interiors, houses an exquisite collection from both national and internationally acclaimed fashion designers. Here, we are in a conversation with the duo- Divyakanth and Raamz, who speak about their friendship and how they created By The Threads.

No two ways about it: Divyakanth A pakka Hyderabadi and a hardcore entrepreneur- that is Divyakanth. With his father and two brothers helming their businesses successfully, it was but obvious that Divyakanth oated his own enterprise. Being creative at heart, he has naturally chosen the fashion industry as the path and established By The Threads, a multidesigner store. Formative years I pursued a Masters in Business Administration in Hyderabad. With the ambience at home all about trade, I need not look anywhere else for inspiration. I wanted to be successful like my father and brothers. At the same time, I needed to carve out my own special niche and have my own unique venture. After pursuing my masters and attending cultural exchange programmes in London and Dubai, I gained confidence to

launch my own brand. The plunge Fashion industry always fascinated me. The plethora of options and opportunities it throws open for a person with creative mind and heart is mind boggling. The infinite platform can accommodate any number of brands that are unique. A well-worked out concept can leave customers enchanted and spellbound. Hence, I knew, right from the beginning, this was what I wanted to do. No second thoughts about it. Fortunately, I found a perfect cohort in Raamz. So, when I thought of starting on my own, I felt he is the best person to partner with. This might sound like attering a good friend. But I just cannot help stating it again. He has redefined and redesigned fashion in the city.

The process To oat this new facility, we had to mull over a lot issues and take decisions. We had to face a number of dilemmas too. We were ooded with many ideas, often confusing us and making us wonder which one to pick up. Choosing the right locality for our outlet was the most difficult part of the entire process. We planned to open the store on Road No.10, which is known as the designer street of the city. Initially, there was a little friction and apprehensions about these issues. But now when we look back, we note with great delight that the decisions we took and the efforts we have put in are right. We wanted this to be our special place. Our passion and love for work oozes out of every nook and corner. They can be felt all over the store.

Building a brand We hold our customers in high esteem. So, obviously we give priority to their point of view. We also want them to recognize our place as the one where options galore and as an outlet that gives them 100% satisfaction. We want our customers to know that they chose the most successful designers of the country. By The Threads never fails to surprise its customers with its offerings in every genre - right from bridal to couture, prêt and luxury, exquisite wear to Indo-Western and casual wear for the summer. The name itself emphasizes that it is always about the detail. Each piece is woven together, one thread at a time, without ignoring any element. Our customers can be sure of any attire they pick up from our outlet and wear it with great confidence.

Breaking through the competition Without competition, the game would be boring. This field evolves rapidly, so only competition can help us stay focused and updated, and keep our creativity perennial. By The Threads can compete with any rival because its unique styles, patterns and designs.

analyze each other’s opinions, weigh pros and cons, & the issue gets resolved. If the issues arise are just between business partners, there is a possibility of split. But we have been friends even before we became partners. So we know each other’s thought process.

Work share There aren’t any set roles. Basically, I manage the store and Raamz guides me with his experience. We don’t divide the work per se, we work hand in hand.

Way forward Our motive is not just to build a brand that brings fame. We want to ensure that everyone’s efforts yield results. Raamz, I and everyone in the team make our best efforts and all of us should be rewarded accordingly. Stakeholders and customers should leave our store with great satisfaction. We should always be on the top of their list. That’s the brand I want to build and that’s the mark I want to establish.

Handling disagreements We speak to each other without any filters. We do at times differ on issues. But since the brand is bigger than both of us, we set aside individual opinions and go for what is best for it. We

the fashionistas. However, driven by a passion and to create fashions of high standards, Raamz joined hands with his bestie and became an inseparable part of By The Threads. Fashion designer turns entrepreneur I am different from others in my field as I don’t fall for the latest trends and designs. My mind seeks something unique. So, I began to curate my own designs. People love my work. I am greatly benefitted by my association with veteran actor Jagapthi Babu, who had recently started his second innings in films. I have always believed that talent alone cannot bring you the money. It needs to be perfectly complemented with a business mindset to be successful. Jab we met I have known Divyakanth for a long time. The way he perceives the market and his strategies is amazing. Nothing can be more exhilarating than working with someone who has extraordinary ideas. He has great passion and dedication to make any project successful. red | april-may 2019 | 47

The first thoughts We had many plans but lacked clarity over execution. But by and by everything started falling into place. We started implementing our plans perfectly.

Handling disagreements Sometimes he relents and sometimes I do. We both know that it’s tough to be correct all the time. So, we accept each other opinions and move on.

Building a brand By The Threads is all about the collection. We work with various designers. But some pieces are exclusively curated by By The Threads. Sometimes, Chandrika and I create some pieces for it. We keep adding to our range. Our store gives a platform for aspiring designers to display their creations and more visibility to the seasoned ones.

Raamz Vs By The Threads Since its inception, my store Raamz has been exclusively for men. Raamz has impressive number of loyal clients, who often ask me to start a line for women. So, for them, By The Threads is the one-stop hub . So, there is no conict of interest.

Work management We are involved in everything. While Divyakanth comes up with better designing ideas, I actively participate in building the brand and strategies.

Way forward We want to reach the top. We first want to establish the brand in Hyderabad, and once we garner a good response, we will spread our wings pan India. This shall happen soon but the priority now is to be the number one in the city.
