There is an all-round confusion in the state, especially in the politics that dominates our social fabric. With strategies changing like patterns on sand dunes and equations among parties and leaders altering by the hour, the political picture is hazy and the situation fluid. It is tough to find out who is endorsing whom and who has split with whom. That forms the basis for our red flag. All this notwithstanding and in a rare show of unity, most of the Opposition parties came together in support of the bill for statutory status to SC/ST sub-plans and the state created history by passing it and becoming the first one in the country to have such legislation. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy successfully completed two years in the office. Refusing to evaluate his performance he said, “I have written an exam. How can I correct my own paper?” However, he celebrated the occasion by launching the first girder of the 72-km Hyderabad Metro Rail Project, with a promise that it would be dedicated to the nation in December next year. The Hyderabad police have earned kudos for implementing the SC order banning the tinted films on car windows, taking even VIPs and film stars to task for flouting the rule while their Visakhapatnam counterparts too did well in bringing down the tinted shutters. We did our bit by talking of the issue (see red alert). We have “covered” Victory Venkatesh. Yes, the star is on the threshold of a new dawn with two mega films up for release very soon. KAJAL IN THE CITY Actor Kajal Agarwal created a flutter in the City when she was here to inaugurate UNV, a family shopping mall that came up on Sampath Vinayak Temple Road. Fans craned to have a dekko of her at the mall. Management and staff had a tough time to ‘manage’ the crowds who created a stampede like situation on the premises. CITY GETS PAINTBALL ARENA ‘Bunkers N Bonkers’, the first paintball arena, has come up in Vizag. Located in Sagar Nagar, near Senora Beach Resort, it was inaugurated by Vizag East MLA V. Ramakrishna Babu. Designed with eco-friendly/recyclable items, the arena gives the most fun filled experience to the players. Originated in the US, paintball is a game in which players compete, in teams or individually. CAKE MIXING AT FOUR POINTS With Christmas and New Year fast approaching, Four Points by Sheraton organised a traditional Cake Mixing Ceremony at the poolside. Close to 100 kgs. of dry fruits like apricots, raisins, dates, cashews, dry ginger, almonds and pistachios were mixed in 30 litres of rum for the festival ahead. Russian couples, children, in-house members and invitees thoroughly took an active part in the cake mixing ceremony under the guidance of Hotel’s Chef Pankaj Kumar. SUN DEEPAVALI Sun International Institute of Technology and Management turned into a veritable celebration ground as the students held the annual event of Deepavali. Setting a perfect example to their peers, the festival was celebrated in its traditional splendor. The girl students, dressed in beautiful saris and half saris, lit the lamps in a beautiful mandap that was specially erected for the purpose. The colourful rangolis were a treat to the eye. APPRENTICE SCIENTIST PRIZE Sri Prakash organised a group of scientific activities for the award of the Apprentice Scientist Prize by Mrs. Nicole Ostrowsky, former head of the Laboratory of Physics and Condensed Matter at the University of Nice in France and Brigitte Maury, Project Manager, Section of Excellence in Science. Ten teams each comprising five VIII standard students from the cityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s best schools participated. The teams of Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan - TPT, Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan-Seethammadhara and Naval Children School were awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. DRDO Scientist of the year 2011, Debashish Chakraborti, Associate Director and Project Director, NSTL gave away the prizes to the winners. Ch. INTL. SCIENCE, MATHS FESTIVAL Sixty-four projects in science and mathematics designed by 190 students from across the world were on display at the three-day International Science and Maths Festival organised by Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan. Vasu Prakash along with a select group of eminent persons from the science and mathematics fraternity from across the world strove to promote the interest of students in the subjects and inspire them. CITY GETS ANOTHER STAR HOTEL Yet another star hotel that came up on the beach road is Ambica Sea Green. Located opposite to the submarine, R.K. Beach Road, the hotel is a 3 star property, though its looks and designs resemble 5 star properties. The hotel, inaugurated by Minister of State for Commerce and Industry D. Purandeswari, has a small and neat board room, well designed lawn and reception, wonderful aqua rooms, well designed corridors, fitness centre, et al. Minister for Infrastructure and Ports, Ganta Srinivasa Rao cut the ribbon and actor Allari Naresh graced the occasion. The hotel is yet another great and successful project from the Ambica Group.

SAM LAUNCHES CHETTINAD’S Actress Samantha has launched Chettinad’s ethnic touch - a house of handlooms in Jubilee Hills recently. This is the second Chettinad’s store in the city, with the first one being located in Himayathnagar. A smiling Samantha made a quick appearance at the store and cut the ribbon before lighting the diya. She tried out a few of the saris from the collections that the store offered. The petite actress got the traffic on that road to a standstill as crowds thronged the venue to catch a glimpse of their favorite star.

UNITED RUN The 10K run got bigger and better this year. It was an Ethiopian clean sweep at the Jamba Cloud Hyderabad 10K, with Mosinet Geremew and Yebrgual Melese winning the men’s and women’s overall titles. "This run is not just about health and fitness, but also about supporting various causes Hyderabad believes in. It proves that the city is united. About his company’s USP, he says, “The Vizag unit is one of the 31 RHI production sites, functioning in six continents. Pick any product. We synchronize the technology and meet the uniform production parameters so perfectly that users can’t distinguish whether it is made in Austria, China or India. Besides manufacturing, we install and maintain our products. We also provide a service called Total Refractory Management where the customer pays a fixed amount per every ton of material he produces and we take care of inventory, installation and maintenance and the customer does not have to worry about his refractory requirements.”

“Since our production duration is long, it is tough to arrive at a cost, taking tariff fluctuations into consideration. Nor can we waive a prior commitment given to the customer. I may think of power production at some point of time if the scenario continues. I may start a pilot project of alternative energy and initially experiment with non-production facilities like lights, computers,” he says, indicating that he is gearing up for the lurking contingency.

Dismissing the inevitable teething problems that new ventures face as surmountable hurdles, Mr. Raju says, “Since it was a private transaction, we had no problem with the land deal. With right people at the right places, we could start our commercial production within 13 to 14 months after the land acquisition. The path of any venture, big or small, is strewn with thorns. Don’t giants like Vedanta or Tata have their share of problems? One has to be pushy, innovative and steadfast and find one’s way about.” He refutes the general belief that inadequate workforce is the problem prevalent only in certain regions and insists that it is a universal phenomenon. “Till date I have not met any entrepreneur from any part of the world saying that the manpower is not an issue,” he says. “One has to work on this perennial problem, addressing it on a day-to-day basis. No point in cribbing about it.” Though mechanisation is a plausible option, Mr. Raju feels we are far away from it. “My overseas counterparts have already moved into totally automated plants.”

Though not entirely power dependent, his business too remains vulnerable to power cuts and tariff variations.

RHI Clasil is one of the few industries that faced no opposition from environmentalists. Mr. Raju has a ready explanation, “We deal with earth related material and our plant rejections are recyclable.” Casting light on the eco-measures he has taken, Mr. Raju says, “We are conscious of every tree we cut. In lieu of 30 trees we felled for our purpose, we planted 10,000 plus trees and I am going to pursue this drive more aggressively.” The socially conscious company is supporting two schools and has installed a drinking water treatment plant and built toilets in the local villages. It has also supported villages with flood relief during the last cyclone.

Mr. Raju describes his stint as the Chairman of the CII- Vizag Zonal Council last year as most enriching and adds, “The kind of education and exposure I got here cannot be imparted by any college. It helped me connect with local people and entrepreneurs and made me feel at home in Vizag, a city I did not even visit till 2006. It also feels good that you are doing something for the industry, and not just for yourself.” Mr. Raju minces no words in saying that the small entrepreneurs are the ones who make a big difference and add value to the society, not the big corporates. “New players and youngsters, who bring in a whiff of fresh air, should be encouraged to enter every field, including politics. We have to be a part of the system if we really want to cleanse it. That is the advice I have for our youth.” As you leave the RHI Clasil, you just cannot but help remember Mahatma Gandhi’s famous quote - “You must be the change you want to see in the world.” T

he man behind the Public Interest Litigation (PIL), Avishek Goenka, enumerated that kidnapping, crimes and assault against women were being carried out in cars, behind the black window film. Also he said that darkened glasses “give immunity to violators and are used as a tool of criminality, considerably increasing criminal activities.” He sought that all vehicles must have 100% transparent windows. However, Rule 100 of the 1989 Central Motor Vehicles Rule affirms that “the glass of windscreen and rear window of motor vehicles should have a visibility of at least 70% and that of side windows a minimum visibility of 50%.” The Supreme Court said that it could not comply with 100% VLT as requested by the petitioner, but has set forth a rule that cars cannot have sun film, but can allow a tint of 70% VLT for front and rear windshields and 50% VLT for the glass panes of side windows. The ban is a welcome step after the car-based kidnaps and rapes in Delhi and the inability to identify car-escape criminals due to tint filmed cars. Be it the murder of IT executive Jigeesha, rape and murder of BPO employee Prathibha Srikanthamurthy or the Dhaula Khan and Mayapuri rape cases, cars with heavily filmed glasses have been brazenly used. Also the dark tints obstruct visual clarity during the night, leading to accidents. Following this PIL, the Apex Court has taken the initiative to curb crimes. A rule was passed banning the use of sun-control films on cars starting from 4th May, 2012. This ban was met with mixed reactions, but nevertheless the tinted film has to go.

On the other hand, cars that come out of the factory with tinted windows as per their mandatory company specifications have been exempted from this law, as long as the extent of tint falls within the permissible limit. So what is tint and what is film? The important difference that one has to note is that of the tint from a tinted film. The Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) provide the glass with minimal dark tinge, whereas a tinted film is only an accessory.

Leading by example, former Commissioner of Police, Vizag region, J. Purnachandra Rao removed the film of his own car. He also reiterates that it is important that the Supreme Court order is honoured by everyone.

Representing the manufacturers and dealers, senior Counsel Member, Soli Sorabjee argued that banning tinted films would adversely affect the livelihood of lakhs of people. The SC ruling clearly states that ‘laminated safety glass’ is allowed, to avoid extensive damage during accidents. 20% of the customers go for clear films. So there is a little relief for the dealers, and all is not lost. A

Meanwhile, the rumour mill is working overtime to brand some as traitors and some as opportunists while the truth is totally different. Recently, a list was released by YSRC and TRS, claiming that ‘talks’ were going on with a few interested candidates who are eager to join them. The repercussions of these ‘fictitious’ stories reached such a stage that the ‘accused’ often rush to the media to prove their innocence. A classic example of these ‘reality shows’ is the breaking down of an MLA in full view of the media and avowing his allegiance to his party. With the rumours of the fence-sitters circulating like wildfire, there has been a palpable tension in all the parties. It is interesting to note that it is only the YSRCP which is spared from the heartburn as there is no hint, leave alone news, of anyone quitting the party. Rumours notwithstanding, today’s politicians are scared to face the electorate. Earlier, it was enough if the candidate went to the voters carrying his own progress card, but now he is judged by his party’s overall performance. It is no secret that the ruling party in the state is tarnished with innumerable scams, leaving its candidate in no position to look squarely into the voter’s eyes and seek mandate. The main Opposition party TDP too seems to have fallen in bad days plagued by issues like Nandamuri-

Nara family problems, lack of second rung leaders and the split stance on Telangana. The aftermath Even as the rumours are circulating wild stories, each political party is reacting in its own way. While some are trying to huddle their flock closer through pep talks, others are ignoring them. None other than Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy himself is said to have conducted private meetings with nearly 20 candidates, who have assured him that they would continue to render their services to the Congress. However, the TDP is taking a different approach. The party seems to be less tolerant to the rumours or anti-party acts. It simply suspended Praveen Kumar after he met Y. S. Jagan in the Chanchalguda jail to discuss his political future with the YSRCP. The YSRCP’s strategy to woo MLAs seems to be working very well as it has already roped in a collage of TDP, Congress and TRS MLAs. The leaders quite naturally find it a safe haven because they are spared of defending the deeds of his party as it has not so far tasted the power. This is also evident from those extra efforts the rest of the parties are taking to insulate their men against the YSRCP charm.Leaving no stone unturned, the YSRCP is also trying to woo candidates from Telangana area, and so is TRS.

Changing equations The equations among parties too are changing by the minute leaving the people in confusion. There have been large scale breakups, supports and withdrawals. Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party which was floated in 2008 joined hands with Congress in 2011. This move was widely criticized because PRP was up in arms against Congress just before the merger. TRS was a part of the “Grand Alliance” and later joined the NDA, and for a while it was with the Congress too before ending the alliance because the promised separate “Telangana state” never came. TRS announced that it would merge with Congress only if a separate Telangana state is created. Devender Goud who was a part of TDP left the party in order to seek justice for Telangana. He floated a party called Nava Telangana Praja Party which fought for the cause of separate Telangana statehood and later went on to merge NTPP with PRP. Having failed to get the expected mileage, Goud had no option but to go back to his pavilion, TDP. It, perhaps, is the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh that people have ever started talking of elections years in advance. With political churning starting as early as this, it is difficult to foresee what is in store. Till then the people have no option but to keep their fingers crossed and enjoy the daily political ‘soaps’ their obliging media unfolds before them. F

eeting the movie Mughal D. Ramanaidu’s son, who is a name to reckon with in the Telugu film industry, is certainly a daunting task. As I drove into the sprawling Ramanaidu Studios, I was seized by varied emotions, apprehension dominating the rest. But the instant you meet the actor Venkatesh, you know that your fears are totally misplaced and here is a star, who is down-to-earth and has absolutely no airs about him. Isn’t the first test of a truly great man in his humility? People do know that he was born with a ‘filmy’ spoon in his mouth, but only a few are aware that he appeared as a child artiste in Prem Nagar, an ANR-starrer (1971), produced by his father. After obtaining his MBA degree from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, USA, the young Venkatesh returned to India with the intention of getting into film production. Interestingly, his father wanted to become a hero but ended up being a producer whereas Venkatesh became an actor. It is little wonder that Venkatesh earned the sobriquet ‘Victory’ as he bagged the prestigious Nandi Award for the best male debut for his role in Kaliyuga Pandavulu (1986). The rest is history. In a brilliant film career spanned over two decades, he has

acted in 64 films and grew from strength to strength working with stalwarts like K. Viswanath (Swarna Kamalam) and Ram Gopal Varma (Kshana Kshanam). film. Mahesh and I are working together for the first time. We enjoyed a great bonhomie. It was certainly a great experience working with a perfectionist and a dedicated actor like him. Shadow, on the other hand, is a very high voltage action film. I have experimented with my looks, trying out a couple of new things. So it is going to be different. The film is replete with glamour, stunts and drama. What made you sign on the dotted line for the multi-starrer SVSC? I really liked the story line narrated by Srikanth Addala. It is a story of two brothers and I am sure it will strike a chord with people instantly. An out and out family entertainer, the script offers great scope for divergent emotions. I am confident that the film will be a trendsetter. Are you open to working with debutant directors? I always take a look at the script and visualise how the film is going to be. Somehow my hunch always comes true. I don’t mince words and am very candid about my opinions. Either it is a definite ‘yes’ or a definite ‘no’. If the rest of the things fall into place, I don’t care to check who the director is. Hence I have absolutely no qualms about working with a debutant director. With the entry of a new generation, you might have seen a lot of change in the industry. What is your take on it and any advice to the youngsters? Thanks to the tremendous growth of electronic media, the present day actors are constantly under public glare, of which we were blissfully spared. As they are being constantly ‘watched’, they have to be on their toes. The second positive change is that today’s youngsters have an opportunity to undergo training, practically in all the wings of filmmaking, even before they enter the industry. This has brought in a lot more of professionalism. Actors of different generations exist in the industry and everyone has his or her own space. We should respect one another for what we are.

Lots of awards and box office hits how have you managed to do that? I was lucky and worked with the right people at the right time. If a new writer’s idea works for one film, something else works for another. All I do is to do my bit and wait for everything else to fall in its place. I also observed that no matter how much you plan, things happen the way they are meant to. I really don’t plan or expect anything from life and hence accept whatever success or achievement that comes my way as a bonus. I also believe that if one is honest to one’s work, he/she gets recognized somewhere down the line and is rewarded with awards, box office hits or something else. Victory is your ‘surname’. What do you attribute your success to? Do your job and move on with life - this is what I learnt from my father.

Moreover, I didn’t come into the field with a single aim of gaining success. Life goes beyond success and failures. Your take on success and failure. Sadness and happiness are very temporary things as far as I am concerned. They really don’t matter after a certain time. You may feel low for a while and you move on, the same holds good with happiness too. I never thought I would be an actor, but audiences were kind enough to receive me and give me love and appreciation. Worry follows desire. Since there is no desire, there is no worry either. Also, over years of experience, you tend to learn how to maintain a balance between pleasure and pain. Your children were brought up away from the media glare. If they decide to get into films, will you be supportive? How does the father Venkatesh interact with his children? I want them to lead a normal life like any other of their age without inhibitions or

restraints and without carrying the VIP baggage. That was how my father brought us up. They should have the freedom to do what they are passionate about. As of now, I don’t think they are interested in getting into films.I am like a big joker to them (laughs). I do crazy things to make them laugh and pamper them a lot. There is a lot to learn from children because they are natural, wonderful and pure at heart. Ours is a very, very closely-knit family and we have a lot of fun together. Are you spiritual? Yes, I am a very spiritual person. I believe we are all beyond this one life, and that the life we live right now is just temporary. There is more to us than just this human existence and we always must strive to go beyond it. When I got into this mode, I started reading the teachings of great masters. I try to assimilate the

messages that great saints and Maharshis have given. I also follow masters like Swami Vivekananda, Yogananda, Prophet Mohammed, Jesus Christ and Jalaluddin Rumi. Knowledge is available all around us and it is up to us to pursue and gain it.

General Motors’ latest salvo on the Indian turf is the premium hatchback Chevrolet Sail U-VA. Launched to strengthen GM’s small car portfolio, it boasts of a few Chevy’s signature design cues, a dual-port grille decorated with a gold bowtie, bigger side windows, better styled head and fog lamps and a rear door with a wider-opening range. The 12-spoke 14” alloy wheels aggressively up the style quotient.

With pleasing dual tone interiors, Sail U-VA offers best-in-class head and leg room. A unique ‘Rising Sun’ style instrument cluster completes the affluent look. Did you always want to be in the field of dermatology? I wanted to pursue gynaecology, but chose dermatology at the behest of my husband, who was specializing in Plastic Surgery in Brazil. I completed different courses related to dermatology in three years. Later I obtained a Post-Graduate degree in Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine.

Skin is a sensitive thing to deal with, how risky is it? With an experience of over a decade, I am confident of handling any case. So I don’t think there is any risk involved in it. Challenges? This stream is different from general dermatology. One can cure the acne, but not always the scars. So it’s not just about the treatment, but a lot depends on the counseling. The patient should be made aware of the limitations. Your most rewarding experience? There are many. The blessings of the patients who are benefitted by my treatment are highly rewarding. A few days ago, one of my lady patients (a socialite) got bad acne which further aggravated with faulty self treatment. Next day she had to attend a high society party and with my prescription the problem disappeared overnight. Her husband was so thrilled that he dubbed me a magician. Which is more challenging - the role of a doc, a wife or a mother? I have two understanding daughters and an equally supportive husband. Professionally also I have no complaints. Anyway I feel the role of a homemaker is the toughest of all. Secret of your evergreen charm. People are surprised to know that I am married and it becomes double fold when they discover that I am the mother of a 20-year-old daughter. A little bit about your background… I went to different countries for various levels of training in plastic and cosmetic surgery. In Italy I was with one of the pioneers of Liposuction, Mr. George A Fisher. Any changes in plastic surgery? Earlier it was restricted only to celebrities and socialites or patients suffering from major traumas like burns or accidents. But now, people go for it purely for aesthetics. So today besides people from the glamour world, we have the common man and even students approaching us. Do they come to you for corrective measures or with an obsession to imitate their idols? We can’t call it just an obsession though many of them want to be like their idols. What is surprising is even parents force their wards to undergo treatment for better looks. Any difficulties or limitations? Like any other field, this too has its risks. But we strictly adhere to safety lines and conduct lab tests before taking up any surgery. Our infrastructure, state-of-the-art equipment and technically skilled staff ensure easy and safe handling of any case. Since it is a very unique stream, what is the degree of job satisfaction here? Actually it’s the other way round! When one is born with a deformity, the suffering is much severe, as it lowers one’s confidence. It is working for the best results within the technical possibilities. It involves a fine balancing. Sometimes the result might disappoint a few. With liposuction, people are taking an easy way out. Comment. With no offence to fitness gurus, by the time people achieve their targeted areas like losing a pound here or gaining one there through rigorous workouts, their faces lose the grace. Abdomen, hips and buttocks are prone to accumulate fat very easily. But mind you, shedding extra pounds from these areas is the toughest. So the right approach would be regular physical activities and a liposuction to get the figure correction. It is a misconception that liposuction is meant for fat people. Let us be clear, it’s more a figure correction process. Among many cases, there was a young girl from North India, who developed a huge 7-inch tumor in one of her breasts. She used to cover herself with a bed sheet instead of a duppata. To her misery the doctors there advised her to undergo mastectomy removing her breasts completely. With my surgery, the girl could save herself from going through such a trauma. The most rewarding moment was when she came in a pair of jeans and T-shirt sporting a hearty smile. People say marriages are made in heaven. With a pinch of professional equality and tons of personal compatibility, this duo has made it possible on earth. They share their secret. It is best if a doctor marries a doctor. Comment. She: Ours was a purely arranged marriage. So we haven’t really

planned and married each other. But I feel you really don’t have to marry one from your own profession. He: It is partially right. However, though both are doctors their job demands may differ. We started this sub specialty after marriage. This kind of combo makes the journey easy. How do you support each other? She: He shoulders more responsibilities at home. We do exchange our professional expertise and that is required too. I take care of the medical part and he renders the surgical support. We complement each other as dermatologist and plastic surgeon. Doctoring each other? She: How do you think even after two deliveries

I am in such perfect shape? Yes I do maintain myself in a natural way, but his surgeries also helped me keep the fat away from my body. He: If your wife is a skin expert and you look handsome even decades after your wedding, you are bound to earn compliments. When I am questioned (it happens often) about the secret of my apple like cheeks, my reply is “Once I am asleep, it’s all Sailaja’s magic potion and my skin.” Tell us something about your kids? She: Our elder one is studying 2nd year medicine. The younger one is a 13-year-old and is studying in the 8th standard. They are completely papa’s daughters. For them I am a Hitler mom. To cajole an upset partner! She: I am very moody and carry my anger. But with him around, it’s hard to continue that way for long. He doesn’t let me stay quiet and keeps on making faces and cuts jokes till I give up.

Doctor-in-demand! He: Often there are queues in front of her chamber and hardly one or two for me and people say, ‘she is really a busy doctor’. I say, “Physicians are like buffalos and need lots of grass but surgeons are carnivorous, they can’t chew more than one animal per day.” Future plans We are planning for a similar facility in Dubai and Sri Lanka next year.

Step 2: Push gently on the wall with the bottom of your hand. Hold the stretch for five to six deep breaths. Step 3: Turn around and perform another set of stretch on your left arm. Repeat the exercise three times per arm. STANDING WALL PALM PRESS Step 1: This exercise stretches your arms and the nerves that radiate from your thoracic spine into your hands. Step 2: Stand with your right shoulder facing the wall and with your feet slightly apart. Press your right palm against the wall with your right arm straight and your fingers pointing up. Pull your shoulders back slightly, and hold this stretch for five to six deep breaths. Step 3: Turn your hand so your fingers are pointing down. Press your palm against the wall, and stretch for another five to six deep breaths. Repeat the stretch on the opposite hand and forearm. Method In a cocktail shaker, mix the frozen black currants with crushed ice, crĂ¨me de cassis and lemon juice. Whip the double cream with some Grenadine syrup, vanilla pod and orange zest. Pour the black currant mix into 3/4 of a glass. Top it up with the vanilla cream and garnish with fresh mint and orange slices. Serve it chilled.

Method Preheat oven to 160 degree centigrade. Beat egg yolks, 4 tablespoons sugar and vanilla in a mixing bowl until it is thick and creamy. Pour cream into the egg yolk mixture and make an even mix by whisking it gently. Add the dry fruits along with the spices so that the flavor is incorporated into the mixture. Add the mixture into the ramekins (molds) and then arrange it on a baking tray. Bake in a preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Preheat oven to broil. In a small bowl combine remaining 2 tablespoons of white sugar and brown sugar. Sift this mixture evenly over custard. Using a flash Butane torch caramelize the sugar so that it is crisp on top and soft on the inside. Watch carefully so as not to burn. Remove from heat and allow cooling.

Soak all the dry fruits in brandy, dark rum along with the spices overnight. Put a large pan of water on boil. Grease plastic pudding basins and lid too. In a large mixing bowl, add unsalted butter and cream in the sugar, beat till it gets fluffy and light. Gradually add the beaten eggs to the cream mixture. Sieve the flour, mix in the baking powder and breadcrumbs. Add the soaked fruits to the flour. Then gradually fold the flour mixture into the creaming. See that it doesn’t get cuddled. Add honey and let it rest for a while. Grease the pudding mold and dust it with breadcrumbs. Pour in the pudding batter ¾ into the mold. Seal the mold with butter paper and metal foil and put for steaming for about 45-60 minutes. Take it off and remove the cover and de-mold the pudding on a wire rack. Serve it hot with Brandy cream anglaise sauce.

Rinse lamb with cold water; pat dry with a cloth. Make several even and tiny slits over it. Rub it with lemon juice. Mix the minced garlic with rosemary, herbs, olive oil, salt, and pepper and insert it in the slits and marinate it for an hour and a half. Sear the leg on the hot griddle to seal the juices inside. Roast in a preheated oven of 180-200° F for about 15minutes. Adjust the time according to the size of the lamb. Blanch the vegetables. Season and toss them in butter and place them on a sizzler plate. Debone, slice and arrange the meat on the bed of vegetables and garnish. Serve it hot with red wine jus, mustard, mint sauce and some condiments and fresh breads.

Ananthagiri Fast gaining repute as a health resort, Ananthagiri, situated on the way to Araku, is a prominent tourist spot. Indira Gandhi Zoological Park Spread over 425 acres of land, the park is a host for over 400 varieties of animals including Indian tiger, deer and elephant. A mini train facilitates a trip through the park. It also has a collection of animals from Africa and Australia.

Kailasgiri Hills Take a road trip or ropeway to the top of Kailasagiri, a must-do resort with its Shiva Parvathi Statue, Shanku Chakra Naama, Jungle Trails, 7 wonders of Vizag, Shiva Temple, Shanti Ashram, Floral Clock, Landscape Gardens, View Points, Food Courts and the toy train.

Kali Temple The Kali Temple located on RK Beach road is a modern architectural edifice. Next to it is the unique Siva Temple with its 'rasalinga', made of 10 kg single stone.

Kambala Konda Kambalakonda Reserve Forest, spread over 7,146 hectares, the home for rare species of flora and fauna is a great lure for eco-tourists. Visitors can trek over a stretch of 4.5 km or boat in the reservoir. The park is located in a place called Degalagedda.

Kapila Konda (Appikonda) Siva temple located in Appikonda, just 18 km away from the city, houses the Somalingeswara Swamy Temple and contains inscriptions dating back to 12th century AD. The huge bull, carved in black stone, is the major attraction.

Keertana Vanam Beach Resort Keertana Vanam, with its rustic ambience, manicured gardens and coconut grooves is a Beach Resort. It is a prominent picnic spot on the Visakhapatnam Bheemunipatnam Beach Road. Spread over 13 acres of land, the resort has a restaurant and amphitheatre.

Konda Karla Ava lake Konda Karla-Ava lake, known for its beauty, 10 km away from Anakapalli, an Eco Tourism Destination, is a bird-watchers haven with luring migratory birds from all over the world. A ride in the canoes is an experience in itself.

Kurupam Monument The Taj Mahal of Visakhapatnam, the Kurupam Monument was constructed by Raja Vairicharla Veerbhadra Raja Bahadur in memory of his wife Princess Lakshmi Narasaiyyamma. It is known for its architectural splendour and beautiful engravings.

Matsyadarshini Aquarium Matsyadarshini, an aquarium on RK Beach, has many rare varieties of fish besides uncommon marine invertebrates.

Matsyagundam Matsyagundam is a beautiful pool with fish of many

varieties located in the Araku Valley. The nearby Matsyalingeshwara Swamy temple, Machkhand River and Sangda Waterfalls can be reached easily from this spot. 22

Mudasarlova Park Nestling amidst hills and palm trees and just 5 km away from the city is the Mudasarilova water tank and attached to it is the park full of trees, flowering plants and picnic spots. An added attraction is the picturesque Golf Club.

Mutyalampadu Beach The small hill by name Syamala Konda, on the Bheemili road is attractive with a stream debouching into the sea.

Paderu Paderu situated about 110 km from the city, is a picturesque valley at an altitude of over 900 m above the sea level and is inhabited by tribals and surrounded by good number of hill streams.

Pavuralakonda Pavuralakonda is a hillock near Bheemunipatnam. It offers a beautiful view of the coastline. Excavations brought out Buddhist artifacts and objects, foundations of viharas, circular chaityagrihas, stupas and halls. Rama Krishna Beach The Rama Krishna Beach (RK Beach), synonymous with the city, is the major rallying and picnic point for Vizagites. Rushikonda Beach Rushikonda, fringing the golden sands and vast stretch of water, is an ideal destination for water sports enthusiasts, providing skiing, sunbathing, wind surfing and swimming facilities. A lodge, cottages, and a restaurant offer amenities. The 14th century Sri Sapta Rusheswara temple is an added attraction. Simhachalam The 11th century Simhachalam temple, located on the hilltop, at a height of 244 m, draws millions of devotees from all over the world, especially during the Chandanotsavam. Thotla Konda The Thotlakonda Buddhist complex on a hillock 128 m above the sea and 15 km away from the city on the Bheemili Beach Road, houses 300-200 BC ruins of Hinayana sect.

Three Hills Displaying the secularism at its best are the three hills. From Sri Venkateswara Konda one can view the port channel. The Mount Ross Hill is the central one. The north hillock has a mosque and the mausoleum of the Muslim saint, Baba Ishaq Madina and known as Darga Konda.

Tyda Nature Camp Tyda is a small tribal village nestled in the Eastern Ghats, 75 km away from the city on the Araku Road. Jungle Bells, the nature camp, facilitates rock climbing, trekking and bow and arrow target shooting. The log huts and tents are set in tribal environment to encourage eco-tourism.

Visakha Museum Set up on the RK Beach Road, the museum displays the many artifacts and curios. The unexploded 250 lb bomb that was dropped during the World War II and the desk used by Mahatma Gandhi during his visit to the city are preserved here.

Shamirpet Also known as Pedda Cheruvu, Shamirpet with its beautiful lake and a deer park is a great picnic spot. The AP Tourism provides comfortable cottages and the AP Forest Department arranges forest lodges.

Indira Park Situated near the Lower Tank Bund Road and lying alongside the Hussain Sagar, the Park is spread over 76 acres of lush green area. This pleasant entertainment park is a much favoured place for many political and social meets.

Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Botanical Gardens Spread across a sprawling area of 130 acres, these gardens are located at Kondapur. Housing different varieties of herbs, plants and trees, these gardens provide a visual treat to the eyes with water bodies, meadows and rich grasslands.
