Aggarwal has proved that given the right dedication and determination, one can easily scale through. With a career spanning more than a decade, and after successfully switching from one industry to other, she has proved to be a cut above her peers. audiences want to see experimental cinema these days. It is now my priority to make an impact on the audience, and influence them to the extent I can.

Have you started reinventing yourself? It's not about re-inventing myself. There came a point, when I got bored with doing only one kind of films. So, now I want to strike a balance between commercial and novel films. Was it difficult for you to adjust in the south sector? Not at all! I had started acting, when I was 20. I can adjust to surroundings easily and am quite aware of the South Indian culture, far more so than I am of my own Punjabi customs. I am not that great at languages. I understand Telugu and Tamil, but I am not fluent with them. I deliver dialogues pretty well because I am used to theatre. But I can’t converse as smoothly, as I can in English. What makes you say yes to a script? I go with my first instinct. If the script excites me, I pursue it. I also read more about my character and ensure that it has a substantial relevance to the story. Dream role I haven’t done action films till now and certainly, would love to do that. I also love comedies and enjoy watching emotional dramas and love stories. It’s more about broadening my experiences. Would you ever consider acting in an art film? Of course, I would. I am open to all kinds of genres. I don’t have a game plan as of now, and would just like to go with the flow.

You have stopped doing Bollywood. Why so? When I do Bollywood, people come and ask me why not South cinema? And when I am busy doing South, they ask me why not Bollywood? Taking a role in Bollywood film, just for the sake of it, is not important. I basically look for good quality roles and films. These days. South is making amazing films.

THE GRATIFICATION YOU GET, ONCE THE AUDIENCE UNDERSTANDS THE EMOTION BEHIND WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO CONVEY, IS OUT OF THIS WORLD.

Films, especially in the south, are a male-dominated industry. What is your take on gender bias? It is there not only in our industry, it is worldwide. Having said that, I must admit that I never suffered behavioral inequalities. Of course, one has to deal with monetary disparity. Here again, I am grateful to have been treated equally and that too, with a lot of respect till date. I have got my dues on time.

sure-shot winner at the box office, which would you prefer? I would take up both. I am a greedy person. But I think any day, a good character is the ultimate high for any actor. I am a story-based artiste. So I would opt for a performance-oriented role. I usually go by my intuition while choosing a script. I also do not analyse my performance, nor do I bother about how my films have been performing at the box office. I love challenges and am game for taking up things which I haven’t attempted before. How do you feel when your films do not succeed? It is not possible to predict the fate of any film. You can’t do anything to a film, post its release. Sometimes, I do feel bad, especially when you put in a lot of honest work. But, the only way out is to detach from the film after its release. I don’t let success get to my head and failure to my heart.

Do you want to focus on objectoriented roles in the future? I am open to anything and everything that comes my way. I like experimenting with different characters and I, obviously, choose the best from what I am offered. My focus remains on working with one director and picking one film at a time.

Are you comfortable sharing screen space with another actress? I never had a problem being part of multi-starrers. I don’t think there is any issue working with other heroines for a project, as long as you embrace ‘liveand-let-live’ attitude. I gel with people easily & am friendly.

Is living out of a suitcase as glamorized, as it seems? Of course not. I keep telling my co-stars that we need to have this certain amount of eccentricity to be able to perform. It is so difficult to stay away from your loved ones and work all weathers.

It’s something that bothers me. I am mostly a shooting-oriented person, so there is no room for gossip.

Your take on love and relationships. I am romantic. Love and ties cannot be talked about casually. Some might say I am too idealistic about love, but I want a partner who has blind faith in me and vice versa. Someone, who will put me before all his own, someone I want to consider first before my needs. Would you prefer a partner from the film industry? No. I feel it is not good to marry a person from within the industry. If a couple is from different fields, they can learn from each other. Message for your fans Thank you for all the love & appreciation. Speaking about the gender inequality and oppression of women that are so rampant in our country, I request all my male fans to be more respectful towards women, in a manner they want their mother or sister to be treated.

fare Motivation Watching my father and sister building their entrepreneurial empires made me realise that I have it in me and that gentle nudge from my husband Naveen, a first generation entrepreneur, was enough for me to go for this venture. Routine I must with all humility say listening is my forte. I listen to my clients to understand their needs and staff as they want to contribute ideas to our venture. there is no choice but to gather your strength and get back on track. All this should be done wearing a smile and without giving a hint of your vulnerability. Keeping the flock together 99% of my employees are women. I involve them in every decision making process and recognise their efforts with constant verbal appreciation and small celebrations like a lunch out or movie session. Partnership criteria I find out if the person or the organisation have a similar vision and if they are trust worthy. Winds of change Launch of the National Nutrition Mission in 2018 by the Prime Minister. It spotlights the importance of the right nutrition. Leadership lesson I realise I may not be the most intelligent person in the room at all times. So I listen to others, but these changes are within a consistent frame work.

Success measures Success does not happen overnight. Patience and good communication are the imperatives in our field. Advice to aspirants We need to develop confidence, and should be ready to learn. Trade is not for the faint hearts. You have to pour your heart and soul into it. Pros and cons of being a woman entrepreneur Pros: Clients find it easy to relate and confide in me as they know I can empathise with them. Cons: My role as a mother often takes a backseat. Handling employees becomes a challenge as I am soft and end up taking up their burden. On Vizag People are closely knit here. Hence, ‘word of mouth’ becomes an efficacious marketing tool. The state has fine-tuned focus on fitness, providing various fitness facilities. Hence our service that is complementing becomes crucial.

OFF THE CUFF

PERSONAL NOTE The big risk The decision to invest in a space to set up my clinic instead of operating from a room at my home. Challenges To strike a balance between work life and catering to my children’s needs who are in their formative years is daunting. Non-negotiable part of schedule Lunch break which is totally for my son. Change you find in yourself I am more careful with my words now. It is needed to maintain confidentiality of my esteemed clients. Best moment Every moment that I receive a positive testimonial from my client is the best. Gratifying moments The smile of a client who accomplished his/her health targets.

Tiding over worst times I chew up my husband’s brains to find a solution for any problem I have. On a serious note, Naveen is very positive, so I turn to him to show me hope. Success habits Only actions produce results. The toughest decision Certainly, to be an entrepreneur. I have to be grounded, responsible & confident to spearhead the organisation. Ties with friends and family My friends do understand my schedule, and don’t get upset if I don’t keep up a promise. Weekends are dedicated to my sons. We observe Sunday as digital detox day and we are off our phones, laptops and television. Luck factor I do feel there is someone up there who makes things happen. I believe it is my mother’s prayers for my success.

he field of cinema is where one builds a make-believe world for people to live their

dreams, albeit for a brief period. Anita played a crucial and behind-thescenes role in the reel world. Ten years later, she steps into the real estate world giving people the joy of living in their own homes, building them the abodes they have always dreamt of. Here is the brick-by-brick account of her story.

Anita Nuthakki Partner, Shaurya Constructions

Motivation My husband Inder and I always dreamt of starting our own enterprise. We possessed a land in the prime locality here. The city was lacking that niche high-end areas and we wanted to fill in that gap. That was how Shaurya Constructions was born. We are the pioneers in introducing grand entrance lobbies, access control systems, hydro-pneumatic pressure systems, premium bathroom fittings and water softeners in residential apartments. Risk I had a lucrative job in Mumbai, working as the Business Head of Hollywood films for PVR Pictures.

2

I had to choose between working in Mumbai and leaving my six-month-old child at a daycare centre, or moving to Vizag, where I had the flexibility of working from home and being my own boss. Obviously, I chose the latter. Job profile I study the latest developments in the industry and find innovative ways to create and market our brand image. Challenges It is an unorganised sector with a lot of unskilled labour. Hence, it takes tremendous effort and a lot of patience to get work done. We need to tackle every kind of situation that comes our

way and keep up the spirits of all those involved in our projects. Creative steps One has to be pro-active, empower the employees with quick decision making skills and conflict management. We maintain an effective communication, with the employees and stakeholders by encouraging them to ask us any number of questions. Lesson learnt the hard way That nothing in life comes easy. We need to be patient, because success, fame and recognition arrive at their own sweet time.

Employees I choose people with right attitude towards work. Skills can be taught but the willingness to learn, needs to come from within. The best way to motivate them is to involve them in all aspects of decision-making. We send them to training sessions so that they are well aware of the new developments. We recognise their hard work and achievements through appraisal systems, and reward them suitably. Winds of change The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA) passed by the Parliament, seeks to protect the interests of home buyers and also boosts investments in the real estate sector. Steps to success Just one - believe in yourself. Your take on Vizag It feels wonderful to be part of the city’s growth, creating beautiful and stunning landmarks. Pros and cons of being a woman entrepreneur Pros: Flexible working hours, good work-life balance and sense of control. Cons: Women still face gender bias in the construction

industry. This is a bitter truth. People don’t take you seriously.

Tip to aspirants Believe in yourself and follow your dreams and instincts.

Tiding over tough times The feeling that we are giving people their dream homes is what keeps me up and running.

PERSONAL NOTE

Success habits Patience, perseverance, credibility and commitment to build high quality residences.

Speaking Chalk Good English-speaking skills are still beyond the reach of many. Though children study in Englishmedium schools, they cannot speak or write the language. Through Speaking Chalk, I dedicate an hour a week to help children in need. I always enjoy interacting and teaching them. It is an extremely gratifying feeling,

Imperatives for women We need to empower them by giving them decision making responsibilities, and encourage them to work to the best of their abilities. Ties with family and friends Being an entrepreneur has definitely changed me for the better. It has helped me understand my near and dear ones, and build new alliances and relationships.

Non-negotiable in your schedule My commitment to provide the best homes without any compromise in quality is top on my list. What are the changes your vocation brought in you? I have become more patient. Best moment Getting immense recognition for building the Aurum Apartments Gratifying moment The smile and satisfaction on the client’s face, when we hand over

What TV show should everyone be watching? I am currently watching Peppa Pig. It is a brilliant family show. What blogs/podcasts do you listen to inspire or learn from? Dr.Kavita Kamineni Managing Director, ABC Hospitals and Partner, Drop n Go

CHARISMATIC

GIVER +

S

he is an avid health buff at The Vizag 5am Club, committed doctor at ABC Hospitals, an adroit entrepreneur, a doting mother and an immaculately dressed chic socialite (though her appearances are rather rare). Kavita doesn’t just comfortably cruise from one role to the other but also leaves impressive foot prints, shining as a perfect example of womanhood. Obviously, it makes one wonder what exactly is her core strength and aptitude. Here she is with her answers.

Why these divergent fields? I can’t state one obvious reason. I guess it’s more of a “follow your heart” thing. At ABC Hospitals I am a critical care specialist and take care of the ICU activities. I make policies & manage manpower, patients and their families. I am gradually stepping out of my niche to understand financial aspects of the administration as a whole. I am naive but I hope to get better at it. I oversee finances, nontechnical aspects and work in tandem with my partner at Drop n Go. Challenges At ABC: Plenty! Many government rules are not in sync with current day demands of health care. The sad part red | 7th anniv. issue | 82

is that they are one sided. The concerns raised are dealt with the harassing health care facility owners. We also face the wrath of erroneous reporting by the media. It is a challenge to the increasing demands of patients while keeping the costs low and having to stay on top of the game in this world of cut-throat competition. At Drop n Go: This scientific concept is new to Vizag. It’s an uphill struggle to make people understand that this unique technology is not like any other in the state. People who we deal with in commercial sector are manipulative and it is a hard place to be in. Creative measures I don’t know if I am creative as such. But whenever there is a roadblock I try

to find a solution around it, rather than whine over it. How do you keep your flock? My employees might answer this question better. Like any other organisational head, I too lead by example. But I must mention that I have a wonderful team of doctors and nurses, who render great support. What are the big advances you have made? I always strive to go big. We built a state-of-the-art facility in Vizag’s Health City to serve our patients better and to give them the best care they need. I have set up a fully automated, one of its kind laundry. To claim them as achievements, we need time.

Strategies that help women progress The ability to look at life as a whole and have the bigger picture in mind, whether that is a matter of running the house or looking after the children. My mentor told me that one cannot be a good doctor/mother/ daughter/wife all the time. We need to know when we are needed the most on a given day. l have come this far because I stuck to it. Tip to aspirants Never deviate from the core values, even when the going gets tough. Rethink strategies, if need be and practise this in reality. Pros and cons of being a woman entrepreneur Pros: The ability to effectively multi-task. Patience comes naturally to us. Once people realise that a woman is serious about what she does, they recognise and respect her. Cons: The need to constantly organise and reorganise one’s priorities because work needs to be done both at office and home.

PERSONAL NOTE

+

Biggest risk Am I allowed to say getting married? (laughs) Fortunately for me, that turned out to be the best risk I ever took and it worked miraculously well in my favour. Success mantra Discipline to stick to timelines, respect towards colleagues, and empathy for patients and their families. Also a thirst for knowledge and the commitment to update oneself regularly. Changes the vocation brought in you I have realised the depth of “what bought you here, won’t get you there”. I am constantly looking at new ways to build a ‘corporate’, that not only is remembered for great service, but also for its cost effectiveness. In current times, it is so important to keep one’s operational costs under control to pass on the benefits to the patients. Ties with friends and family I seldom have time for anything outside

work. I miss social events, parties and I miss being there for my children when they need me the most. I think people consider me to be an anti-social, but that’s not true. There is too much pressure at work. The best moment Being the national topper of my critical care fellowship exam two years in a row. Gratifying moments The ability to make a difference in people’s lives. When someone, who would have potentially died, if not for the efforts of my team and me, comes back walking with a box of sweets, it brings instant gratification. I remind myself that good or bad, nothing lasts forever. It is a simple but powerful reminder. Success habits I wouldn’t call myself successful. That’s being too boastful. I, however, have a few people I admire, and I constantly seek to learn from them.

+ OFF THE CUFF Non-negotiable in your schedule My morning coffee One thing your CV doesn’t reveal My addiction for, and knowledge of saris and handlooms. What would you tell your 20-year-old self? Adopt a healthier lifestyle Alternate business idea Aged care facility par excellence. What keeps your day going? The compelling need to earn money to pay salaries and EMI’s Follow on social media Deeba Rajpal, Ahalya Matthan Last thing you Googled? Princess Diana’s recorded tapes You should be remembered as... Compassionate care givers

What would you like us to say about our meet? I am curious to hear what you are going to say. Luck factor I believe unless one gets lucky, success never meets his/her efforts. It makes up for 50% of my achievements, though I somehow find it uncomfortable to call myself as successful yet. Leadership lesson The importance of building a team that believes in its leaders and is in sync with their philosophy. What other hospitals do you admire? Apollo any given day. They are the pioneers of modern day healthcare. I also admire LVP Eye and Ganga Hospital Coimbatore.

Dr. Sajeeda Kalagara MS., DNB Consultant Radiologist, Vijaya Medical Centre (VMC), Visakhapatnam.

DOCTOR S

he is not the rest of her ilk. They are generally serious, stiff-necked and reticent. But here she is happy-go-lucky, breaking into a hearty

laugh at the slightest provocation. With all her mirth and fun, we have to keep reminding ourselves that we are, in reality, talking to one of the state's best Radiologist, who can lay her finger right on the root cause of any disease. Sajeeda, with a brilliant academic record, graduated from the prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. Intrigued by science and the complexity of the human body, she naturally pursued her ordained field - medicine. Her narration, interspersed with a few asides, turns out to be as lively as her laugh.

About Vijaya Medical Centre (VMC) My journey with VMC has been an exhilarating one and forms an integral part of my life. This centre has been a forerunner in the region in diagnostic imaging for the past 35 years, as it is unparalleled in quality service, ethics and a large patient turnover. I am fortunate to work with the best facility in the field of Radiology, in terms of infrastructure and colleagues. Here every day is a learning experience. Tasks & targets I am a Clinical and Interventional red | 7th anniv. issue | 84

Radiologist, specialising in diagnosing and treating disease using imaging techniques. I provide insight into causes non-invasively. We have to keep abreast of new techniques. I do this by reading articles, journals, participating in workshops and studies both at home and abroad. Every unusual case leads to discussion and research. This gives me new insight and upgrades my knowledge and skill. Accomplishments I have established a state-of-the-art complete women’s Imaging facility in

Andhra Pradesh with inclusion of a dedicated 3T Breast MRI, 3D Tomosynthesis Mammography, Breast Biopsy and Interventions. With a background in Head and Neck surgery and Otolaryngology, I established a dedicated ENT imaging facility. Big leap We take radiology to the next level by bringing in newer techniques like 3T MRI, 128 slice low-radiation MDCT, 3D Breast Tomosynthesis & interventions.

We are the forerunners in providing Teleradiology services to the rural areas and small towns along coastal Andhra Pradesh through 10 full-fledged and full time medical centres. Gratifying task I enjoy making apt diagnosis in difficult cases and performing interventions. I cherish the human touch. It is fulfilling to make people who come to us in pain smile and feel at ease. Women’s status Gender bias still exists in our society. Women, despite being efficient, strong and good workers, don’t get the best opportunities at work. However, it is different at VMC, where, women comprise 50% of the workforce. With the help of our HOD, Dr. Suman Kalagara, a true ‘male feminist’, we provide the best work environment for them. It is very gratifying to watch these young, shy, unconfident girls transform into excellent, successful and independent professionals in the right ambience we provide. Advice to aspirants Education and knowledge are the panacea for all ills. A recent Harvard Alumni study rated our profession as the most satisfying. Be passionate and compassionate, work hard, set your goals, avoid shortcuts, give your best and never ever stop learning. PERSONAL NOTE Tiding over tough times I am an optimist and believe that “tough times don’t last but tough people do.” I go to the cause of the problem and work on it. I give it my best and leave the rest to God.

Success habits Passion, setting goals, determination and hard work. I am glad that I am able to influence my family and work force by being efficient, healthy and happy. Work-life balance The best way is to blur the lines that divide work, family and play. I also realize that we cannot have it all. It is not possible to be a good professional and a good family person every time. You have to prioritise, keep juggling and also make a few compromises. I have little time for social life but no regrets whatsoever. I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive husband and family. Aspiration I always want to do something meaningful and make a difference in people’s life. I use

my knowledge as a doctor and take up activities that promote women’s fitness, welfare & education for the under-privileged, orphans and differently abled children. Memorable moment Recently, we organised a marathon and rewarded the finishers with a free health check up. At the event, a group of women recognised me and stopped me as I was sprinting along. Though I had reluctantly suspended my run, I was delighted to hear them. They asked me, “M'am, we will not be able to complete the run. Will you still give us the check up?” I was happy to note that I could take the intended health and fitness message across to people and impact even these uninitiated women. I believe healthy and empowered women lead to fitter families and fitter nation.

OFF THE CUFF Your CV doesn’t reveal My love for trekking and clicking nature pictures. I am an imp with two horns. If not this profession, then? Certainly something adventurous. Maybe an astronaut. What would you tell your 20 year old self? Chill dude, hone your latent creative skills Keeps you awake at night... The thought of playing golf at exotic locations Keeps you going in the day? Figuring out a way to get to those exotic locations and play! I should try apparition. Last thing you Googled? How to pose for a photoshoot didn’t work though. Her altruistic gestures and resolute service have earned her wide applause. However, her success is not an overnight marvel. It was built on years of commitment and hard work. One does not see a trace of frustration or fatigue in this elegant and ever-smiling doctor who talks of her tryst with this benevolent profession. Genesis I did my MBBS from Madurai Medical College before I got married into the A.S Raja family. Through medical camps, I took part in closed heart surgeries in Vizag and open heart ones in Chennai for four years. This led me to social service full time. People questioned my choice of welfare activities over a lucrative practice. Yet, our family identified the need for a quality red | 7th anniv. issue | 88

service oriented blood bank in this region. After my M.D in Pathology, I worked in as a Registrar, CMC Vellore to float the facility. Challenges Finding qualified technicians was the major problem. Dr.Vidya, from Mumbai, was a real blessing. We together trained the staff, but this became daunting as we went for component separation. I had technicians from CMC Vellore training our people. But it broke my heart to see 500 freshly frozen plasma going down the drain as the clinicians were reluctant to adapt new technologies. Due to

the lack of PR skills, getting the A.S.R.V.B.B message across was tough. People were unwilling to replace the blood they took. The Round Tablers were the only repeat voluntary donors. My husband Dr.A.V.Siva Prasad led them by example. JCs, Lions, Rotary, etc., followed suit. Fair deal Rare blood groups and blood supplied in the night were sold at inflated rates. To break this norm, we offered all blood groups at a fair rates, night or day. The voluntary donation rate which was once 7% is now nearly 93%.

Hard lessons Today there are nearly 15 standalone banks, besides those units attached to hospitals. But I learnt that selfless quality service, is a rare commodity.

We adhere to donor eligibility criteria and train counselors to identify and filter out blood sellers. Testing is kept at par with FDA or

Attracting donors I am passionate about this exercise. Dr.Mammen Chandy, world renowned Haematologist at CMC Vellore, would always stress that the best donor is the primary pre-requisite. We were the first bank to take the bed to the donor. I have given more than 100 lectures to NSS teachers, spoke at service clubs, on AIR

PERSONAL NOTE Beyond the profession I walked the ramp for the ace designer Shravan Kumar at the first Vizag Fashion Week for A.P. handlooms. I am a member of Inner Wheel, Rotary Club, CII, Tamil Kalaimandaram, Blood Bank Societies, ISTM and ISBTI. Milestone I conducted a national conference Transcon 2018, the first of its kind in AP, with the help of the ISBTI. It earned tremendous encore. Success mantra Deep knowledge, right team, tenacity to advance in adversity and to take every failure as a stepping stone. Disappointment Even now, 100% voluntary blood donation in the city, remains a distant pipedream.

Tip to aspirants Being proactive and having the ability to interact with the public, are two major prerequisites. One needs to develop risk taking abilities, and be holistic service providers to their clientele.

Best moments In 2012, we won the State honour as the best blood bank. We were the first to start a Thalassemia programme and give blood free of processing charges. I am proud that we cater to nearly 80 thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia children. Toughest decision The death of my father-in-law left me rudderless in administrative aspects. I was wondering if I should shut down the bank or develop an entirely new skill set which would be a massive addition to my already heavy workload. In 2012, when my children grew self-sufficient, I finally had the time to do something for myself. I have always wanted to be my own boss. My flare for colours and love for design, made me launch HN Invitations & Design. The name is derived from my name and that of my sister, Naina. Though we started with wedding cards, we soon expanded to the other activities like gift wrapping and accessories for celebrations.

Cardinal s

Challenges The wedding cards/boxes/gift sector is highly personalised. It is a big challenge to meet the deadlines for deliverables. And there is a great excitement about these cards. Moreover, the designs/wordings keep changing till the last minute. This makes on-time delivery a tad tough. But, we at HN ensure that customers get the cards they love, on the promised time. Staff support I choose workers, who are detail-oriented, creative and

ion team-friendly workers. Big smiles are a big plus. I have 6 designers working from New Delhi and four women and a man here. Ours is a closely knit workforce that comes up with innumerable creative concepts and ideas. Each one of them makes valuable contributions to our creativity and business. Winds of change Now, we get a lot of assistance and support from technology/ digital platforms. This helps us achieve greater detail & finish.

Advice to aspirants Come to this field with a clear vision; believe in yourself and work hard to make your dream come true. Advice to women We have the ability to take on more challenges and handle tough situations. Sometimes, we do it better than men. This is also a great learning curve for young aspiring women entrepreneurs. The Vizag scene I have lived here for nearly 30 years, and have strong ties with the city and its people. I understand the likes and dislikes of people. This knowledge helps me design and curate weddings cards that quintessential Vizagites appreciate. PERSONAL NOTE What’s the biggest risk you have ever taken? The thought of recreating the wedding

cards/boxes market by selling quality products which are not readily available in this market at affordable rates.

I feel that the time I used to spend with friends has gone down considerably. My 2019 resolution is to be better at this.

Non-negotiable in your schedule... Yoga and puja.

Tiding over tough times I lean on my family for advice & support. Luckily, I have a lot of ‘wise’ ones there.

How did your vocation affect you Now I am more confident in dealing with people and tough situations. The best moment One of the biggest joys is moving into a bigger showroom. This reminds me how far I have come in just six years. The best part of your vocation A friend, who received a card, told me that she instantly knew that it was an HN product because of the beautiful design and quality. This made me realize how much I love what I do. Ties with family and friends While I still carve out time for family,

Smooth journey I graduated from Institute of Hotel Management – Mumbai and worked for a while in Taj Hotel, Mumbai. I moved to USA after getting married and continued working in the same field. Came back to India and worked in the R&D wing of Venky’s ready to eat chicken products. In 1990, I moved to Vizag and started assisting my husband, Mr.Mangalagiri Sudarsan Swamy, in his work. I got into this business at the behest of my sister Naina, who owns a paper export company in New Delhi. My children Sanjana and Samay complete my family.

OFF THE CUFF One thing your resume doesn’t reveal My love for cooking.

What is the last thing you Googled? Wedding outfits for my son. Samay’s wedding is round the corner.

Your superpower Efficient multi-tasking.

Favourite TV show Historical documentaries.

I started my career working for Taj Hotels in Mumbai, and I learnt from them that employee’s satisfaction is the key to successful business. red | 7th anniv. issue | 91

W

ith dreamy eyes, a disarming smile and delightful countenance, she looks every bit the new bride that she is. Yes, she entered

matrimony just three months ago. But Keerthi Pratyusha Mallapragada seems to be grappling with one too many issues- setting up her studio in the new home, missing husband who is the US for studies and being under the weather recouping from a bout of typhoid. Yet, the stoic artist musters energy to talk of her ordained brush with art and presents it in deft strokes. Motivation When I look back, I don’t remember anything about me except that I drew and drew and drew. It was a pure passion until one day a stranger on a social media platform saw my work and commissioned me to do his family portrait. This happened some three years ago and my passion has turned into my profession. I entered this mystic world of art and continue live in it. red | 7th anniv. issue | 94

Why charcoal as medium? This medium is, at once, a blessing and a curse. If it creates realistic images, it also smears easily. Most challenging part. Getting smudge-free portrait. One has to be very careful, as even the slightest contact with the canvas smudges it. Creative process I aim at hyperrealism, working on light, objects and water reflections. Studying the light is the key. You have to train your eyes to perceive the subject. I started as a charcoal artist, but now I am into coloured hyperrealism with polychromes. I choose

subjects that impact me. The shelf life of my framed art is more than a decade. How do you fix a tag? Initially, I used to charge for my pencils. But now I do it for my time. Every minute counts. Any creative blocks? Not really. When I am bored doing portraits, I switch to draw an experimental art and learn a new technique and get back to work. Success story My first five-foot charcoal hyperrealism is my success so far. I have started my six feet work. Fingers crossed!

Favourite composition None per se. Each work is special because I don’t repeat my technique. Recognition I have been awarded the Charcoal Artist of South India 2018 by Business MYNT. My art reached celebrities like Vijay Devarakonda, Naga Chaitanya and Samantha, Renu Desai, Anupama Parameshwaran. Pencil companies like Faber Castell and General Pencil Company, Inc. of USA applaud my works and follow me on Instagram.

OFF THE CUFF One interesting thing your CV doesn’t reveal I am a self taught artist Your superpower Observation Spirit animal Tiger If not this profession, then? An author. I have started writing a book on realism and hyperrealism.

Steps to success Do it with your soul. Do it because you love it and the world will recognise you.

What would you tell your 22-year-old self? Don’t worry about ‘What to do?’. Just keep doing what you love, the world will go with you.

Tip to aspiring artists Don’t ever stop drawing. Don’t seek answers from others, and find them through your research. Do it only if you truly love it.

If you could snap your fingers and start a business, what would it be? A book store. I will find a corner in it to sit and read all the day.

Your take on Vizag I am rooted in Vizag. I am emotionally connected to every nook and corner of it. An artist can only create in his/her comfort zone. Vizag is my zone.

What keeps you awake at night? I dream of creating techniques mixing mediums. That makes me get up to write or draw. What keeps your mornings going? Desire to create something new

On being a woman artist... Art knows no boundaries . It is not gender centric.

PERSONAL NOTE

What is non-negotiable in your schedule? Me time. What do you enjoy most about your work? I love the journey of creating an art, more than rushing to reach the end of an art. How do you push through your worst times? I am not a dancing soul all the time and go through phases.

But whether I am happy or sad, I vent my feelings through my art. I forget whatever I am going through when I pick up pencils or start drawing. The change art has brought about in you... I feel powerful as my art is impacting people and they are moved by my drawings.

You can follow her on: Instagram handle - @pratyusha_kp

3 traits needed in your field Passion, patience and persistence Who do you follow on social media? David Kassan and Clio Newton Commercials that attract you Art supplies The last thing you Googled? Deep-veer wedding pictures Favourite TV show Not into TV What blogs/podcasts do you listen to get inspired? Inspiration comes from everywhere. What helped you grow? A lot of friends and their support accelerated my growth. How would you like to be remembered? I want to be called as the girl, who brought life to her arts. The role of luck in your success... Hard work and passion put me here.

Manjeera Cheruku & Radhika Mattatalli Managing Partners, One Too Many

Manjeera Cheruku

S

tarting a business on your own can be one hell of a task. Hence, having a partner often makes the process a

little smoother, and what more can one ask for, if that partner is your buddy? Well, here is one duo. They are like what Hermoine is to Harry Potter, Jai is to Veeru and Woody is to Buzz Lightyear. Manjeera and Radhika have stuck through the ups and downs, and triumphed; achieving commercial success with the first of its kind food court in the city-

Motivation Manjeera: My father Mr.Lakshman Rao ran a gifts & stationery showroom and I would help him. In 2009, I was introduced to nail art, a new concept in Vizag. Initially, I ran the operations from home before I installed a kiosk at CMR Central. It became the talk of the town. But I had to sell it off as I got the opportunity to head Woman's World in 2014. That was yet another challenge. I worked there till 2017.

Kondragunta Nivedita Director, Pinnacle Hospitals Blood Bank

If it is all about nature and nurture, she seems to be amply blessed with both. Eminent genes and excellent environment appear to have made her what she is - a perfect combination of beauty and brains. The sure-footed daughter of political stalwarts, Dr.Daggubati Venkateswara Rao and Ms.Purandeswari, married into an equally famous Kondragunta family. It is only natural that the young Nivedita stepped out of her home comfort and found her own course to serve people. “Both my father and father-in-law Dr.K.V.Prasad are qualified doctors. While my father-in-law shifted to business after practising medicine for a couple of years, my father got completely involved in politics. Perhaps, that deficiency gnawed at me somewhere and I instinctively took upon myself to fill the gap. Of course, it was at the behest of my father-in-law, that I started working for Pinnacle Hospitals, of which he is the Managing Director,” says Nivedita. Breaking into a lovely smile, she adds, “Perhaps, it is in our genes to pursue vocations unrelated to our qualifications. I studied gemology and look what I am into.” She talks of her tasks at the blood bank, throwing in a few personal details. That, new ventures come with challenges is stating the obvious. No wonder she opens the tete-e-tete touching on them.

red | 7th anniv. issue | 108

Challenges The very first challenge was, to step into this field without any medical background. Of course, I did do my homework thoroughly, studying other blood banks. After learning the ropes, like how they were set up and they function, I started working on how to better things at our blood bank. Hard lessons Every thing is subject to change. The dynamics of the medical field throws up new theories and concepts every single day. The scene is no different in blood banks too. We get our daily quota of lessons, hard or otherwise. Principles Honesty, trust and discipline are the three most important ethics that we follow. Drawing donors Our blood bank is affiliated to the hospital. We do no such thing as attracting donors, but when someone comes to us seeking blood, we certainly ask for replacement donors. We try to motivate them to donate, to replace what they are taking. This would help others in need. The big leap Pinnacle Hospitals Blood Bank has successfully gone through the initial inspection for NABH. We are highly appreciated. Steps to success Dedication and compassion are the prerequisites here. You cannot succeed unless you are dedicated to what you are doing, and cannot serve the society in a better way, if you are not compassionate. Best moment The best part of our job is we get to help people every day. Since my parents have been in public life, the urge to serve people grew within me, and that gives me

utmost satisfaction. It is gratifying to think that we contribute to better the health of our society. Tiding over tough times It is all about teamwork. I feel it is very important to consider and treat your co-workers as your family. In times of crisis, we work together, taking into consideration every one’s views and ideas, and come up with best solutions. The Vizag scene Vizag is one of the best cities when we talk of blood donations. There is a healthy competition among the blood banks. The competition is so acute that we learn from one another. It makes us better our performance and work harder. This certainly sets higher standards and yields healthy blood. PERSONAL NOTE What are your activities beyond blood bank? I have helped in organ donation walks, organised by Pinnacle hospitals in association with Abhayam Kidney Care Trust and Jeevandhan. Tough decision Taking up the responsibility of the blood bank without any medical knowledge was a tough decision. The toughest period was when I had to spend a lot of time away from my home and children to study blood banks. If not running the blood bank....? I am a Gemologist. I have studied a course in coloured stones and diamonds from GIA, New York. So I probably would have worked in that field. Luck factor I would say 8 on a scale of 10. I am fortunate to know and be surrounded by good hearted people who render solid support.

OFF THE CUFF One thing your resume doesn’t reveal. I was a national badminton player. Your super power My husband Arun Kumar. Your spirit animal Dogs. They have an amazing spirit. What keeps you awake at night? Seriously? Nothing keeps me awake at night. I follow my children's timings, and sleep by 9:30 pm. I love my sleep and need minimum 8 hours of it everyday. What keeps you going in the morning? My kids - Sreshta and Jairam, for sure! I need to follow their school routine. Three words that define your task? Not three but there are four factors that define my task. They are Dedication, Compassion, Honesty and Discipline. What’s the last thing you Googled? Pepper chicken recipe. How would you like the blood bank remembered? I want people to recognise Pinnacle Hospital Blood Bank as a Dedicated Blood Bank.

stuck in a profession that least engaged her

attention. Yes, had she been bold and assertive enough, the young and naive Nivedita would not have gone through those arduous years of dentistry studies or chosen it as a possible profession. But by the time she learnt that it was not her cup of tea, she had already completed the course. She then refused to go any further. That was also the time she realised that her interest went beyond the human mouth - to the palate and the stomach. Switching on her oven, she started diligently catering to the finer sense of taste and established the fact that ‘passion is one great force that unleashes creativity.’ The young restaurateur, who has created a niche for herself in culinary world, talks of her willingness to take risks in this field which is alien to her till recently. red | 7th anniv. issue | 112

Motivation It has been always in the back of my mind to impress on people that one need not take the beaten path to be successful, and that life is not all about orthodox careers. I drew a lot of flak for leaving dentistry. But for me it is not just about earning my bread but baking it too. I need to derive pleasure and satisfaction from the vocation I pursue. I also credit it to my fierce independent nature which drove me to be an entrepreneur. Happyoi I am passionate not just about baking but also cooking. Hence it is only natural that I took this step and set up a store Happyoi. I work as the CEO and as the head chef

too. I have my own signature dishes in burgers, pizzas, pastas, lasagnas, and many more. The enormous love I earned from my customers is evident from the statistics of Swiggy, Uber, Zomato, Google and Facebook. Track record Honestly, I never counted the number of cakes I made, but I can talk of the most special one. It was the one I baked for my son on his first birthday. If I have to hazard a guess, we may have delivered around 3500 to 4000 cakes till date. I think that speaks for the popularity of our products.

Winds of change The most perceptible and perhaps the inevitable development is in the field of food delivery. The services have largely improved and we see our city teeming with deliverers in every nook and corner. Falling in step, we too expanded our cake delivery services. Now, our services have crossed the borders and are available in other countries too. Prerequisites of success Patience, quality of service and good manpower are the factors that make any business successful. It is absolutely essential in the food industry. Challenge The main challenge has been managing the manpower. We should be ready for all contingencies. That is why I have learnt every bit of everybody’s job

Advice to aspirants Listen to your heart, don’t stop dreaming, work on what you want!

But the best part is I have partnered with my husband Dimpu Sanagapalli. This facilitates us to spend a lot of time together and take decisions together. We support each other through thick & thin.

How did your vocation impact you? I have become more responsible, strong willed, creative, independent. I definitely honed my skills in cooking and baking.

Tiding over tough times I surmount stress by spending time with my little champ Zoaan and by cooking a new recipe. They are my stress-busters.

here is nothing uncommon about parents guiding their child into a career path. But in her case, it is

her five-year old son who directed her to be the officer she is now. An innocent demand of the child made her switch tracks. Yes, a qualified homeopath doctor, Kajal, left her well-established career with Ayush, to join the police force just because her son, Hemish, wanted her to be an officer. “Call it providence or coincidence, the very next day I spotted a notification for Group-1 examinations in a newspaper and I went ahead with it. Otherwise, I was nowhere connected to this field,” says the ACP, setting the tone of the interview. It is difficult to spot that tough cop, who climbed the ladder of hierarchy with her diligence and dedication, in this slender woman who strikes an instant rapport

red | 7th anniv. issue | 114

Career track Cracking the exams or clearing the interviews or even going through rigorous training, were good challenges for me. Bagging a gold medal in criminology, I stepped into the service in 2012, joined as ACP Traffic, Hyderabad, and later I was posted in Chriala, Prakasam District as the DSP. Now I am ACP Sc and St Cell 1, in-charge She Team and also South Sub division Gajuwaka (law and order). Safety of women The Nirbhaya case brought about the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013 into enforcement, and things are now looking up for women. When it comes to

swelling numbers of crimes against women, I must say that they look big, because they get reported now. Earlier, many used to go unreported as the victims feared social stigma. Moreover, they were kept under wraps to protect the victim’s name. I see a change in the society here too. Victim protection measures are also on the rise. Preventive steps As a trained doctor, I believe that prevention is better than cure. These crimes generally occur more in the backward areas and coastal belts that are wrapped in ignorance and illiteracy. Young girls have to be educated and made aware of what is a bad and good touch. This can solve the

problem to a large extent. There are occasions when people have to assume the role of police to stop crimes. This happens only when they realise their responsibility toward society. What is more disturbing is that most witnesses often remain mute. Gender bias None at all. We have no such discrimination in our field. In fact, woman constables are more in AP, thanks to the recruitment drives. They are on regular beats, night duties, and perform their duties to perfection at the ground level. They are on par with their male counter parts. We work as a team and our uniforms give us strength. Gratification There are a number cases, but one I distinctly remember is the rescue operation of a minor girl. Strangely, her mother herself was one of the perpetrators. I saved the victim from human trafficking. She is now safe in a home for rescued minors. In an interview with a newspaper, the girl said, “I want to become a police officer like Prem Kajal madam.” This gave me immense satisfaction. Winds of change Police stations are not anymore dreaded as places where only criminals go. We are highly

approachable, and deal with people with more compassion & empathy. The modern age PS is peoplefriendly. Even its ambience is being changed with improved comforts and infrastructure. Corruption With the advent of technology, personal interactions have become minimal. New fast track processes and transparent procedures leave little scope for graft. Even FIRs can be filed on line and e-complaints are entertained now. Advice to aspirants I want more and more women to enter our department. It is a noble and highly gratifying profession. Of late, I with great pleasure, observe in students’ gatherings, a great number of hands going up in favour of the police services.

The most non-negotiable part of your schedule Attending office. The best task Whenever I rescue a girl child. Smooth ride My personal journey has been smooth with no hurdles, so far. My father, Mr. Dhanunjaya Rao, was working with FCI and shifted base quite often due to transfers. My mother, Mrs. Ammaji, stayed in Vizag taking care of my two brothers and me. My father is a creative person and has a strange fetish for the word ‘Prem’. He not only prefixed our names with it, but also changed his own name to Prem Kumar. I married Dr.Yagalla Muralidhar, when I was in the third year of my bachelor studies. My daughter, Kuhuthiya, and son, Hemish, are now in 12th and 10th standards respectively.

PERSONAL NOTE The unforgettable incident At a personal level, the birth of my children. At a professional level, there is one case that left me totally shaken. One man slit the neck of a college girl in the most gruesome manner and absconded. The girl’s face used to haunt me night after night, till I nabbed the culprit nearly after three months.

OFF THE CUFF Are you a police at home too? Some traits I do carry home, like no compromise on discipline. What is the one thing your resume doesn’t reveal? I am a Kuchpudi dancer. Your super power My fighting spirit, and my love for facing challenges. Your spirit animal Obviously, lioness

If not this profession, then? Medicine What keeps you awake at night? Unresolved cases What keeps you going in the morning? The regular routine

What is the last thing you searched for on Google? Recall petition

How would you like people to remember you? As strict, but approachable police officer who does her job well.

Luck factor I believe in hard work Leadership lesson One has to lead by example. red | 7th anniv. issue | 115

Motivation Watching my dad Mr.V.V.Ramana, take his business to great heights was the point of inspiration. My mother Mrs.Uma Sri Devi, on the other hand, is a wonderful painter. Hence, I am blessed with both entrepreneurial and creative skills.

it comes to fitness field, it is a different story. I gained a lot of weight (106 kg) after the birth of my son. I realized that it was time I got back into shape. After my transformation, I decided to spread the word about the benefits of fitness activities and mindful eating.

Genesis of KDAL & FE With the advent of Vannamei shrimp in the AP market, my husband Dr.Suresh and I decided to venture into aquaculture in 2013 and KDAL was born. When

Challenges KDAL: Production-oriented shrimp farming is passĂŠ. Now we have to take note of the market and a host of technical issues, like availability of quality seeds, viral diseases and

environmental issues. FE: It’s tough to make people commit to a healthy and fit lifestyle. We need to keep them motivated all the time. Building work culture Constant interaction with employees ensures a friendly and healthy atmosphere at work. This definitely reflects on the service they render. We conduct group activities that inculcate a sense of unity in them. This also keeps them motivated.

Biggest risk KDAL: When we started aquaculture, people warned us that it was a huge risk. But we know that seafood always sells. Proving them wrong, we are constantly growing, despite the risk of livestock. FE: Gyms mushrooming in every nook and corner and there is cutthroat competition. Yet, I went in big with multi-functional activities like power yoga, tabata, etc., and a team of ten strong trainers. Interaction with staff Brainstorm sessions help employees’ involvement and commitment. We also take care of their personal issues too. Having a friendly attitude, a genuine interest in helping others and providing good service are the three criteria we set for them. One big development KDAL: Earlier, Vannamei farming was limited to brackish waters but now people have adopted freshwater crops. This is good news as in the long run the soil will still be suitable for cultivation. FE: Team training and High Intensity Interval Training are emerging trends in the fitness industry. These are our biggest selling points too.

Steps to success Besides determination and dedication, we provide quality service to clients with a positive attitude. For women to progress It is important to ensure a work-life balance. Hence, staying active and healthy helps us improve our physical, emotional and mental being. Tip to aspirants Be in it for the long haul, don’t expect instant success; there is no substitute for hard work and never give up. Your take on Vizag Vizagites are becoming more and more health conscious. Hence, it is the perfect launch pad for FE. Pros and cons of being a woman entrepreneur Pros: We get immense support from banks and government institutes in terms of loans. Cons: We have the additional responsibility of our family. PERSONAL NOTE Non-negotiable in your schedule My time with family, surprise visits to the work places, and my fitness schedule.

OFF THE CUFF

Change your vocation brought in you I now value the importance of time and money. I can easily judge people. The best moment When a customer achieves his/her fitness goals! My children, Akshita and Sai Charan, are my bundles of joy. Tiding over tough time My family provides the sunshine when my skies are grey. I have wonderful friends who are my extended family, and always have my back. Success habits Yoga and meditation keep me going. I steer clear of gossip and television. Funnybones Browse through Sonal Sarda’s hilarious, witty and relatable Facebook posts and you are in splits. However, her recent posts are all about Vizag Junior Literary Fest, which she has been meticulously planning for the past one year, reflecting her love for books! Undoubtedly, the event was a massive hit and the city raved about this first-of-its-kind, fun-filled interactive experience. If one thinks that entrepreneurship and scholarly pursuits don’t go hand in hand, she proves you wrong as she confidently dons many hats. Here are her candid replies...

EXCERPTS How did you enter the world of trade? It was a wish to constructively contribute to something that the entire family was a part of. I oversee purchase related activities in SMAL. ...and be a part of WhizB? Children, language and education are close to my heart. Learning should be a memorable experience for children and they should have the appropriate exposure. Language is my passion. Purity of language, be it English or vernacular, is very important to me and through WhizB (franchisee of VocaBOOM), I got that opportunity. Activities beyond your business Since the past one year, I have been actively working on the Vizag Junior Literary Fest. The motive was to bring back the charm of books and to spread the love of books among children, who have forgotten their value. What challenges did you face? Nothing unsurmountable or remarkable. As long as one strives to improve one’s performance every day, challenges automatically get addressed.

red | 7th anniv. issue | 124

How do you keep your employees motivated? I like to encourage them in more than one way - by asking them to try out new things and be innovative; encouraging them to look beyond their tasks and into the value of their work. I make it a point to acknowledge their role in the process and encourage them to strive for the best every time. This yields the best results. What does one need to succeed in your business? Dedication, knowledge of not only the business but also its peripherals and ability to continuously adapt. What is non-negotiable in your schedule? The first ten minutes that I spend making a task list and updating it. This helps me to prioritise tasks. It also gives me a holistic view of where I stand with regards to the deliverables on regular basis.

How did your vocation affect you? I learned the importance of being a good listener and also how to welcome candid interactions. I strive to make communication and feedback a constant process. A satisfying solution can be found when we help in the process of finding answers instead of directly giving answers. What do you enjoy most in your tasks? No matter what I do, there is at least one new thing I end up learning. It is this never ending process of learning that I enjoy the most.

How do you push through your worst times? One step at a time. I dig in deep, keep my head down and keep working towards the end goal. What are your success habits? I am meticulous and derive information from past figures. Data mining has always given me a way forward. How can women achieve a more prominent role in organisations? Today, the Indian market is so primed that as long as a woman can perform, there is no barrier. Hence, we need to stop looking at what is limiting us from

outside and focus on what is limiting us from inside. Does your profession affect your ties with friends and family? Yes, it affects all my relationships for the better. I feel people respect and support you if they know you are working hard. Advice to aspiring women entrepreneurs. I would advice them to just do it. As women, we are inherently skilled at multi-tasking, managing priorities and working hard. We second guess ourselves way more than we should.

People are always on the run, either to achieve their targets or fulfil their materialistic dreams, little realising Happiness comes in ‘being’ and not ‘becoming’. efore you wonder what this lady, with ‘sets-

the CSR wing of a corporate giant, let us

remember that ‘God, in a mysterious way, plants rides upon the storm’. That is what He did with Vani. The infamous Hudhud brought about a poignant turn in her life. “I have been a Director at Fluentgrid since its inception in 2001, but I took a headlong plunge into CSR activities after the Hudhud struck. Close on its heels, started the Smart City movement. And here I am,” says Vani. A one hour interaction has offered us a glimpse into how this successful leader multitasks. She attends to her guests, servants, phone calls and also to our hardnosed lensman, grappling with the heat and darkness, caused by an unexpected power cut. Here is Vani and her infinite variety.

Job profile. I started my journey as the Director of CSR and Cityzen with an idea to bring change in the city. Our objective is to foster technology backed, people centric, Smart City movement for sustainable and resilient communities. Under the Lets Get Smart Kirlampudi project, we hold awareness meets and implement clean & green, healthy & safe digital initiatives. spaces for friends and family. Challenges It is an uphill task to reach out to every strata of community to change habits of people and their practices; no matter how non-environment friendly or illogical they may be. Our meets are greeted with poor response, and this aspect requires constant follow ups. Building work culture Doesn’t charity begin at home? So we involve our employees in all CSR initiatives. Fortunately, our team is zealous to bring about a change in

our society. Every initiative positively motivates our employees by giving them valuable lessons. Winds of change State made it mandatory for corporate houses to set aside a certain per cent of the profits for community services, and many organisations have wings dedicated to CSR activities. Advice to women Women need to arm themselves with good communication skills along with personality development, and connect to the task she takes on.

PERSONAL NOTE Changes your job has brought I evolved as a responsible citizen, who is, now more aware of global environmental situations. Along with managing and recycling my wet and dry waste, I also grow terrace vegetable gardens. There is a lot of learning I take away from workshops, and meetings with people with similar interests. Best moment They’re many. Top of the list are the Lets Get Smart Kirlampudi pilot community, the Smart city Project, and the National award we received for it from the VicePresident, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu. Ties with friends and family I always try and take time out for both family and friends. But, I can never say that I have been hard pressed for time.

OFF THE CUFF Your resume doesn’t show... My love for shoes and bags Your superpower Multi-tasking. What would you tell your 20-year-old self? Take yoga and fitness seriously, it will help you in your forties. What keeps you going? I divide my day between Cityzen, my designing commitments and other social activities. So every day is different. Your business in 3 words... Satisfying, inspiring and absolutely necessary! The last thing you Googled? Colour palettes.

Success habits I won’t call it a success habit, but my mantra would be ‘Go with the flow, don’t panic’.

The entrepreneurial advice you disagree with... I don’t believe in the 24/7 concept. I strongly feel people would be more productive if they stick to specific working hours.

Tough decision I haven’t had to face such a situation ever, and hope we sail through safely in the future too.

How would you like people to remember you and your company? I want people to say that Cityzen has had a major role in implementing smart citizen centric initiatives in Vizag, and has brought about good and sustainable practices to the people.

One non-negotiable part in your schedule Me time! Juggling between my CSR work and Interior Designing, I take some time off for myself. Overcoming tough times Luckily, we haven’t had any such bad moments. We have faced bad turnouts to some workshops, but that only reinforced our determination and our organising skills to attract more people to our next event.

What would you like us to say about our meeting? That we met at a composting workshop or no plastic campaign One leadership lesson you have learnt Time management is essential for any business to thrive and survive. The other companies you admire More than companies, I admire individuals I have met along the way. There is always something to learn from them and be inspired.

Most interesting person you follow on social media? I have not been a consistent follower on Instagram, but recently I have been following Rana Rolling. Rana Uppalapati is an inspiration to our society and youth. What TV show should everyone be watching? The Game of Thrones and Big Bang Theory. What blogs/podcasts do you listen to inspire or learn from? Fashion and designing blogs. What are the events that helped you grow? Vizag has recently been a host to various national level events and conclaves, which are good platforms for networking and PR.

o, no...you can definitely go by its name since Area 51- The Cafe Hideout (name inspired by US Air Force’s highly classified facility in a secret location) is tucked away in a quiet lane in IT Sez, amidst the hills. A rather intriguing cafe - with one wall dedicated to the controversial Area 51, a section peppered with quirky captions and an al fresco seating with fairy lights for the perfect selfie spot - provides solace to everyone who walks in. Besides, there are a host of fun and frolic activities like ludo, jenga, etc. you can indulge in while you wait for your lip-smacking order or even if you want to break the ice with your ‘date’. and a conscious effort is being made to avoid wastage, as our focus is on fresh fare. Often, our menu is designed by our customers. In short, their wish, is our command. Our Christmas hampers consist of spiced cookies, traditional Christmas rum cakes, the Panforte candy, hazelnut biscotti etc. These are things we don't get throughout the year, so we are making the most of the season.

The new look. We have moved into our new store early this year and I’ve personally loved taking the route that is less traveled. The Victorian and French style Patisseries started coming into market only in the past few years. So, we decided to go bold and pretty at the same time with our new patisserie. It's full of gold, greys,

and pink! Modern and pleasant. And now with Christmas, we can only see the space looking prettier. We are doing a lot of snowflakes, fairy lights, jingle candles and traditional wreaths. With the new store, we have a better seating space wherein small and big groups can be accommodated. Most of our products are made to order

Apart from our hampers, we have a limited edition dessert collection on our counter. It includes spiced macarons, rum pudding, creme caramel, chocolate babka, strawberry tartlets, hot chocolate. We also have a lot of customised cakes and we decorate them with snowmen, cute Christmas trees, white chocolate shavings, jingle bells etc! Thus, in a nutshell, we have a wide range of offerings and as we always say, "You want it, we make it."
