et up in 2015 and efficiently run by an engineering student Chaitanya Athava, Avenue Hair & Beauty Family Salon has undergone an alluring makeover to provide better services in a conducive ambience to its swelling clientele. Sprawled over 1000 sq.ft. space, the salon has been so well designed that it gives that much needed privacy for services like facials with two rooms dedicated for the purpose. The biggest advantage it enjoys is its upmarket location smack opposite Lions Club, Waltair Main Road. Though they are known for their facials and haircuts, they are particularly applauded for their hair straightening. This has been proven time and again by customers coming from as far as Hyderabad to avail the services. With nearly 400 footfalls per month, the salon is always packed. It is better to take a prior appointment to avoid disappointment and uncalled for wait. High-end and popular products from brands like Maybelline, MAC and Lakme are used for makeup, whereas Matrix, L'oreal, O3 and Lotus are used for hair and beauty treatments.

red | 6th anniv. issue | 52

Justifying the 4.5 star rating in Google and 5 star rating in Justdial, the salon is run efficiently by four female beauticians and three male personnel. With an unwavering focus on hygiene and cleanliness, Avenue offers services at comparable rates. The amiable staff goes that extra mile, with a smile to make the client comfortable. With plans afoot to set up yet another outlet in Seethammadhara, Chaitanya wants to take this originally bold initiative of his father Mr.Ramana Murthy to as many places as possible and as soon as possible. Well, to all those who want to better their looks and confidence, here is a welcoming facility with its doors wide open.

t is a known fact that in diabetes, people suffer from abnormal blood sugar levels. But if these levels remain high for prolonged periods, it may cause nerve damage, problems with blood circulation and infections leading to diabetic foot. This diabetic foot can even lead to amputation if not treated properly. Keeping in mind, the scale of the problem and the preventable nature of this disease, Dr.M.Raja (General and Laproscopic Surgeon) set up Shreyas Hospital, centre for diabetic foot and day care surgery. Located besides Rama Hospital, Seethammadhara, this hospital is the first of its kind in the state to offer comprehensive and detailed evaluation of one’s feet to identify the minor signs often missed. There are three in-patient rooms, one operation theatre and one room for regular dressings. Dr.Raja and his team of well-trained physicians, dermatologists, dieticians and vascular surgeons

Dr.Raja says, “Patients with diabetes must be diligent about prevention of wounds. The first step is properly managing the diabetes itself which includes maintaining a balanced diet and exercise routine. The next step is to commit to daily foot/leg inspections. Even a small blister or scrape can escalate problem for the diabetic patients, so call us at the first sign of any abnormality. Make use of a pumice stone to smoothen calluses and corns. Do not walk barefoot & use footwear that fits.” Future plans? He says, “To create more awareness & educate people about the disease, we are all set to take up a door-to-door campaign, distributing brochures and organise various medical camps. person who exudes resolve & determination. Over 9 years, Rajagopal and his team have made the process of gifting a life as simple as possible. After a match is found, a donor needs to undergo blood testing, liver and kidney profiling, an ECG, an ultrasound of the abdomen and for women, a pregnancy test. Once found to be healthy, one of 2 procedures can take place. One is a 2-hour procedure under anaesthesia. The other is an outpatient process involving injections for 5 days. It can be independently administered anywhere at any time of the day. In both cases, the donor goes about his or her daily life with minimal disruption. Involved process It is then that DATRI’s heavy lifting begins. Recently, a Parisbased patient found a donor in India. A DATRI volunteer carried a temperature-controlled box with the cells and paperwork (to exempt it from airport X-rays) all 10ish hours of the way. “DATRI is able to facilitate 15 donor-patient matches a month. We know when we find a match that the donor is our only hope.” says Rajgopal. He shows no

consternation in taking up DATRI’s toughest challenge: to convince a consenting donor’s circle of inuencers. It’s hard for an Indian to say he has made a choice wholly independently. He’s always answerable to parents, in-laws, friends, family doctors, religious masters, and sometimes, as Rajagopal humorously adds, “That one random uncle who turns up from nowhere only when it comes to stem-cell donation.” DATRI counsels these parties, who come with a concerns like “Will my daughter be able to conceive after this?” Once, even after counselling, ten of a donor’s family lined up outside the procedure room “just to make sure she would come out alive.” Well-set goal DATRI’s goal is to add 1,000,000 donors to its registry within the next five years. Needless to say, it needs all the help it can get. DATRI’s victories are built with the dedication of its 75 staff and 100 volunteers. Drive needs acceptance: Harshitha “People were unaware of stem cells, that they can be donated via the bloodstream and that they can help save a life without affecting the donor.” says Harshitha. “The initiative needs more acceptance in our region, as ethnicity is crucial to finding a match.” There is a widespread ignorance of this entirely safe and easy donation process, even amongst the welltravelled and well-informed. The organisers confess to working through several misconceptions of their own before DATRI. Each drive is a lesson: Rana “Every drive was a learning experience. We were new to the subject, but read a lot and clarified doubts with the DATRI team. It required patience and humility,” Rana Uppalapati told us. It is with the help of aware and consenting donors and involved volunteers like these that DATRI continues to grow. Manasvi’s story had a happy ending for all, even DATRI, too. The non-profit has found a passionate and persuasive coordinator in Kiran, who is working fulltime with DATRI in Hyderabad.

The first glimpse Padma Valli: It was an arranged marriage and I saw him only once before marriage, that too in what we call Pelli Chupulu. First thing you noticed Krishna Babu: Her gentle nature. P: His height, good looks and I also found out that he was strong in his views.

I was shuffling between my parents place in Bengaluru, parents-inlaw’s house in Tippanagunta and Ramagundam. Changes after marriage P: He gave me total freedom, which I did not enjoy at my parent’s home. I married an engineer but he surprised me by going for Civil services. That did not affect our relationship. It was a smooth journey. Secret behind the success K: I always handle posts that are stressful and hectic. She always

supported me and brought up the children with high moral values & discipline. She is brilliant at it. Our son Jyothi Swaroop studied at IIT Kharagpur and Teja Ramya is a doctor. I never had to look into those matters. P: We enjoy a perfect rapport. Does love wear with age? K: No. We are dependent and contribute to each other’s life in a great way. benevolent heart behind a hard exterior. Pure non-vegetarian (in his own words), he is not one bit religious. She is smiling, serene and distinguished. A staunch vegetarian, she is highly religious. That is the best you can do if asked to describe the dashing and dynamic Mr.P.Vishnu Kumar Raju and his charming wife Mrs.Sujatha, in a few words. Despite the dichotomy, they share a strong bond and have a common goal. Both are ready with a helping hand to people in general and the needy in particular. A look at their journey together that started on 9th April 1982. red | 6th anniv. issue | 86

The first glimpse Vishnu: I got the marriage proposal when I was studying in final year of engineering. I thought it was a jolly good opportunity to take a drive to Kakinada, without steering into wedlock. I landed there with friends in toe and had a sneak peek at her when she was walking down the lane. One thing led to the other and we took the plunge. Besides, I had the rare honour of being the first student to get married in our college & was profusely teased for that. Sujatha: I had a hunch that I was being followed and there he was peering at me from behind a newspaper.

That was the moment I felt a special connect with him. First thing you noticed V: Her height and lean body. S: His eyes. Surprises V: I was in for surprises right from the word go. I was getting ready to go to the mandap and found the shirt buttons missing, thanks to the absent minded tailor. I had to pick up the second best shirt. Secondly, there were two more couples taking oath at the mandap. It was like a small scale mass marriage. Changes S: I was timid and not worldly

wise. My grooming was done after I entered his household. I am grateful to my parents-in-law. Clashes V: She resisted my going into politics. But once I make up my mind on an issue, it is impossible to stop me. S: My policy is to live and let live.

One valuable trait V: Her caring nature.

Best gift V: Exchanged our hearts

S: His outspokenness.

Hidden talent V: She is a wonderful cook.

Advice to the youth V: Be economically independent; try to understand your partner before you take the big step. ABOUT EACH OTHER

Secret behind the success V: Credit goes entirely to her. She is understanding and adjusting.

Movie watched together V: We watched Bahubali together.

S: I voice my opinion, but don't interfere.

Best compliment V: Do you think a person like me will ever get a compliment?

Does love wear with age? V: No, it has nothing to do with age.

S: You are my diamond.

S: One must nurture relationship. To keep the spark alive V: We watch spiritual serials together. Memorable moments V: One too many to mention. S: The first time he applied kumkum to my forehead.

Forgotten an anniversary or b’day V: Children remind me. We celebrate them in orphanages. S: I never forget. Gone through each other’s phone V: When we were young we didn’t have cells. Now there is no need.

Commonality V: We are not materialistic. Favourite food V: Maybe curd rice. S: Chicken. One trait you want to change V: She is innocent and gullible. Once she almost gifted a Rado watch to a mere acquaintance. S: Engrossed in public activities, he neglects his health. I used to tell him. “Pitch a tent on the beach with a sign board ‘Come here for free advice.’ I shall send your food there.” What brings a smile? V: Her innocence. S: His humour.

Secret behind the success Vishnu: Credit goes entirely to her. She is understanding and adjusting. Sujatha: I voice my opinion, but never impose them or interfere.

W

ith adventure, sportsmanship and entrepreneurship as their DNA, Aarifs have a monumental lineage. Their ancestor Sheik Taher Sahib migrated to the city from Nagpur in 1938, hanging to a fragile trade thread. His spiritual Guru predicted that Vizag would be the most sought-after trade hub one day and propelled him into a journey of unknown. Incredible it may sound but he could sell shoes to the locals, who were forbidden to wear them by their British rulers and spectacles, which the natives had never seen before- a text book example of selling comb to the monk. Since then Aarifs have crossed three generations and many impressive milestones. Mr.Ebraham and his sons Istiyaq and Munir are now efficiently running diversified ventures. Istiyaq, though not formally qualified, designed five premium optical stores and a beach resort- Celebrations. Ardent fans of cricket, the brothers are the liaison officers for visiting cricket teams; their father represented AP at Ranji Trophy and is the founder member of Metro Cricket Club. Their mother Mrs.Nudrat represented Maharashtra team in throw ball at national level. We meet this happy-go-lucky family.

Formative years I: My father might have faced rough weather, but never did he let it affect us. We were regularly taken for our picnics and forest treks. We also used to have swimming, cycling and cricket binges. M: It was a happy childhood as our father taught us to be content with whatever is given to us.

Trips together I: We are born with an adventure bone. We take off whenever we can, playing it by ear. The 2600 km -Royal Enfield expedition to Bandhavgarh, a tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh is worth a mention. We pitched tents wherever we could, without caring if it was a Naxal-infested village or a thick jungle and explored the region.

M: I recall the Andaman trip, replete with scuba diving, kayaking, hill climbing and fly fishing. We went to tribal-inhabited Baratang Island, without paying heed to warnings. Adventure freaks as we are, sometimes we pedal to Araku valley and Rajahmundry. Working rapport I: Our frequencies match perfectly. M: Neither of us is bogged down by negativity. That is the key to success. Working with sibling: Advantage I: Since we listen to each other, we get to see a different perspective. M: We understand each other’s capabilities and respect each other. Funny? M: Istiyaq

M: Istiyaq ko gussa kyu ata hai?

As kids I: Chuddy buddies. He was a brilliant student. I was into games.

Argue about I: Who would bat first?

Who is sensitive? I: We both are.

M: He taunts me pointing out my weak points, especially when I am not in a good mood.

Father’s say

hysical dissimilarities notwithstanding, they come across as birds of the same feather. Their formative years were not spent together as Nithin was away in hostels and Mourya stayed a pucca local. Launching a never-seen-before-venture, now they are together at home and work. The Tadikonda family trade has been expanding, with each generation adding its own unique vertical. S: Our holidays were always spent at the store picking up trade threads.

Formative years S: My rows were always with my sister Janaki Shree as we used to vie with each other in studies. Vinay used to get caught in the cross fire. All three of us were elected as School’s People Leader, one after the other. Thanks to the canvassing of our kin. The entire jingbang of our family used to go to the same school. V: Bobby was the first in the family to study at a residential school. We followed suit. Yes, we used to quarrel a lot. That we still do, even now.

Trips together V: We used to visit our maternal grandparents at Nawabpalem in Tadepalligudem for holidays. Now it is tough as one of us has to be here to take care of our father and the business. Working rapport S: It is perfect. He is responsible for the conversion of our showroom in Jagadamba Centre into a mall. He is my backbone.

Mom’s pet & dad’s devil S: He is dad’s devil. Nicknames S: Bobby. One thing that baffles you. S: We come to know of welfare activities he indulges in only from outsiders. He doesn’t share such things with us. Recently, Lion’s Club honoured him and we came to know of it through a WhatsApp message. V: He is an open book for me.

V: We don’t interfere in each other’s affairs, yet we complement each other. I am bad at the financial aspects, he is great at it. It all falls beautifully in place.

One giveaway sign that sibling is stressed or tired? S: We spend at least an hour together every day. If his mood is off, he heads straight to his room.

Working with sibling: Advantage S: Team work. We take a leaf out of my father’s life who enjoys a great bond with his brothers.

Takes time to get ready S: I do! He is super fast.

V: Medical field is not an easy one. It takes a lot of time to find one’s feet here. Bobby gave me that much needed support till I stabilised.

place is no constraint. Funny? S: I have a funny bone. Turn out like mother and father S: Me like mom and he will be like father. His physical trait you wish you had... V: We look like twins. S: His height. His personality trait you wish you had... Both: We are happy as we are. Who got in trouble as kids? S: Isn’t it obvious that it is Vinay? Stolen from each other? V: Yes- his clothes! He has an amazing collection, an irresistible temptation.

One weird habit S: He falls asleep wherever he finds time,

Father’s say: They are passionate about their job: Ram Kumar

Future Plans S: Outlets in Tirupati and Gajuwaka. V: Expand the clinics and establish a good reputation in the market. SLAM-BOOK Your sibling in three words... S: He is very friendly, supportive and hard working. V: Supportive, protective and he is the trouble shooter. Early riser or lazy bones S: He is the early bird as he goes all the way to Vizianagaram for work. V: I believe in the maxim- early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise!

Mantra I gave My only advice to them is- see good, hear good, talk good and do good.

One thing you admire S: He is very organised.

Traits I like and don’t like They are very hardworking & competent. Only thing I am upset is that they don’t take good care of their health.

V: He is calm and composed. He thinks twice before taking a decision.

Lesson I learnt from them I am not as highly educated as they are. Hence, there are a lot of lessons I can take from them. Srinivas and Vinay five years hence Srinivas will expand our business in AP and Telangana. Vinay will be running his own polyclinic and serving the needy. red | 6th anniv. issue | 131

A job change or relocation should not be considered at this point. Your earnestness and diligent work may get the deserved merit. Bonding with associates, however, may take a hit. Stepping into new projects will bring favourable rewards. For those in business, profits are likely to be lower than expected. Any involvement in partnerships should be avoided as the results may be hazardous. Spend some time with spouse or plan a surprise date. Those single, you will meet that someone special. However, remember to go slow. Lucky for you:

Your marriage requires serious efforts if you want things to work. Lucky for you:

Your career will rise, but don’t expect a smooth sail. New business plans may not work initially, don’t be disheartened. At the same time don’t wait for opportunities to come your way. Get yourself to a flying start with your own efforts and that go-getter attitude. You could be a bit too dominating, which your partner might not appreciate. Ego clashes should be avoided. Stop over-expecting. The married would witness a positive period. You need to, however, take care of the health of your spouse.

Growth in career is anticipated due to your keen efforts and determination. However, colleagues and boss may not appreciate you at all, so be prepared to be on your own. Lucky for you:

DAY 4

We visited the base camp of Advance Aviation, Thailand’s largest VIP helicopter charter service, where a twin-engine helicopter (Golden Albatross EC-135) was waiting for us for a sky tour. This half hour ride gave a spectacular view of the entire city & provided the ultimate VIP treatment. Sea Life We met some of the world’s unique marine creatures at the SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World located in Siam Paragon shopping mall. This is Asia’s largest underground aquarium with over 30,000 creatures. You can have a nose to nose with some of the deadliest predators in the 270-degree underwater tunnel or take a dive in and swim with sharks and rays. You can enjoy the virtual environment of the sea creatures created in the 4D Theater, the first of its kind in the city.

DAY 5

Located at the end of Chinatown's Yaowarat Road, near Hualampong rail station, Wat Traimit houses the world's largest seated Buddha in gold (nearly five metres in height and weighing five and a half tons). The Buddha at Wat Traimit was discovered by accident when it was dropped while being moved and revealed, under a casing of plaster, a beautiful gold Sukhothai style Buddha. Pieces of the plaster are kept on display. The second floor exhibits cover the history of the Chinese community in the city while the museum on the third floor displays the history of the Golden Buddha. Shopping time at Chinatown! Chinatown or Yaowarat as it is known locally, is a truly fascinating area of Bangkok, with action at all

hours and surprises at every turn, maze of alleyways, centuries old temples and vibrant markets. The head of the dragon welcomed us at the Chinatown gate. Check out the vibrant markets in Trok Issaranuphap and Sampeng Lane before breaking for coffee at the atmospheric Eiah Sae. Don't be in any hurry to leave Chinatown though. It gets even better on Yaowarat Road at night with hundreds of

delectable food stalls and restaurants. You will be left asking for more.

Our amazing trip to Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, the official name of Bangkok in Thailand, is something we will always cherish. With a heavy heart, Sawasdee Ka Bangkok! (Bye Bye Bangkok)

DAY 3 We had an early morning appointment at RSM (Rajadamnern Singha) Muay Thai Academy. The facilities are spic and span, the staff is professional and welcoming. All of the pad men are former Rajadamnern fighters and champions. They push and get the best out of you when you train here. Whew! All that training made us

It is home to 3,000 species of plants, 320 species of birds such as the red jungle fowl and coral-billed ground-cuckoo & 66 species of mammals including black bears, deer, elephants, gaurs, gibbons, swines, etc. After a wondrous tour of Khao Yai, we checked into our hotel - The Greenery Resort. The resort facilities include a massive swimming pool (with jets and a giant tipping bucket), restaurants, spa, nine function rooms and Life Park, an adventure park. Well, it’s time to crash!

hungry and we pit stopped at Blue Elephant restaurant, founded by celebrity chef Nooror Somany Steppe and run by her along with daughter Sandra. Not only is the food renowned, the restaurant is noted for its cooking school, that attracts thousands of visitors who are eager to try out time tested authentic royal Thai recipes and its delectable Thai curries and sauces. Jim Thompson House The compound holds six traditional teak Thai houses set on half an acre of land with lush jungle-like garden. In these houses are a unique collection of antiques and art Jim amassed: Ming dynasty pieces from China, wood carvings from Cambodia, Victorian era chandeliers, statues from Burma and items from Thailand like stone images and a dining table once used by King Rama V.

We had a comfortable drive to the city and checked in at the hotel COMO Metropolitan Bangkok. This hotel with its avant-garde East-meets-West design concept, trend-setting dining experiences and flawless service is sure to leave you spellbound.

After the tour and treats, we sat down for a delectable lunch in the beautiful settings of the Chokchai Steak House.

DAY 2

We drove to Chok Chai Farm. Founded in 1957 by cowboy Khun Chokchai Bulaku, this is Thailand’s largest dairy farm and one of the largest in Asia. Here, you can feed animals, watch how the staff train and take care of the animals and yes, you can even learn to milk the cows. In addition, learn how to be a Cowboy or Cowgirl, twist that gun and release a few shots (on a wooden board) and ride a horse too! Yee Haa! We then entered a showroom where the farm processes some of its milk products such as yogurt & ice cream.

From Suvarnabhumi Airport, we set out to Khao Yai, a city with lush vineyards, nature trails, unique stays & European architecture. It is a part of Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex, UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. We first visited PB Valley. Who knows, you might even have such an awesome time that you wouldn’t want to leave! Dhana Vijay, Senior Photographer of red magazine, vouches for that. He got to witness the exquisite side of Thailand on a trip organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). There is a secret tower near that fountain area. Take the stairs and enjoy a panoramic view of the village.

What made you pack your bags and return to the UK after Ekk Deewana Tha? I was just 19 and living in Mumbai. I did have people who supported me through everything. They advised me to go back and take some time out for myself because Mumbai is such a buzzing city that it can actually make you feel lonely. Also my film didn’t work out. I wasn’t sure of my next move, although my projects down South were going fine. I thought of going back home to figure things out. That was when, Shankar offered me the film I. It made me hungry for work again. You went through an ugly bout with boxer boyfriend, Joe Selkirk, who used to assault you. How did you deal with it? It turned me into a strong and independent woman. It made me realise not to trust or rely on anybody. Yet, I still believe in love and can’t wait to fall in love again. But there comes a point where you realise what you deserve and what you want. Love isn’t always happy and lovely, it can be painful sometimes. It is nice

to be away from love for a while & focus on different stuff. Is it tough to nurture a relationship being an actor? Travelling is the biggest issue. Being an actor, work is intense and hectic. I find it impossible to balance two things at a time. Often people say that they would never date an actress. It is a profession no one understands. How do you deal with the constant scrutiny that comes with being a celebrity? Earlier, I had no clue on how to deal with negativity & criticism. But now I enjoy that side of showbiz as well. It is a part and parcel of the game. How do you manage to deal with failures? I do think about them but I don’t dwell on it. Criticism is somebody else’s opinion and they are entitled to it. But it is very hard to accept. That comes with growth and confidence. I just want to be the best at my work. How much does screen time matter to you? The role matters. I want to be remembered, not lost in the

crowd. I don’t think much about screen time, but the impact it can have. In his first film, Brad Pitt had a five minute cameo on a horse. From there, he went on to become a superstar. That is what’s important- what you come across to the audience.

Do you still face rejection? Rejection is something you have to accept in life. When I would go for modelling castings and not get a call back, I would get upset because I was only 15 but my aspirations were high. Yes, my mom would take it more to the heart than I would. But this industry gives you a thick skin. You get to know your worth and eventually learn to be happy with yourself. For the last 12 months, I have only grown as a person.

What do you miss the most from home when you are working abroad? I spend the majority of the year travelling a lot for commercials and film shoots. But I spend a lot of time in Mumbai, shooting obviously. Basically, I miss my mother’s cooking. Her roast dinners are the best. And then London for shopping.

Stylish actor and actress Sonam Kapoor. I think she has one awesome style. Even Siddharth Malhotra.

Heels or flats? A bit of both. For a night out most definitely heels - the higher the better! But then throughout the day, especially when I am travelling, I like a good pair of sneakers.

Beauty tips? It is all about fresh dewy skin and a really nice glow. Hence, I drink lots and lots of water. I use a good face cream and remember to take my makeup off before going to bed. What you put into your body is what you are going to get out of it. A good diet, workout & the right vitamins is all that you need.

Advice to the youth It is a tough world out there. So remember that you can’t please everyone. As long as you believe in what you are doing, there is no stopping you. Trust yourself, know that you are good enough, and remain true to yourself.

Tell us about the set up and the choice of interiors We have kept the place simple and subtle. The centrepiece that you see is the replica of an actual wooden ice cream making machine. This we have kept to stress on the point that our ice creams are made in an authentic style with all natural and original ingredients. That is why all the boards that you see around specify the ingredients and the health/flavour quotient they add to the ice cream.

Best toothpaste & toothbrush Choosing a brand can be tricky

Blessings of dentistry Whether it is providing preventive care, delivering dental restorative procedures, eliminating pain or correcting dento-facial esthetics, the satisfaction, privilege and joy of transforming a patient’s life is just amazing.

Genesis I studied at La Martiniere, King George’s Medical College in Lucknow and Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. I did my post graduate from then Bombay University. I did my further training in Surgery and Implantology at various centres in England, Germany, Holland and Canada. Later, I joined the Armed Forces as a young dentist and served as a senior consultant and advisor. I was posted in Hyderabad as the head of the unit for facial surgeries. I took voluntary retirement and settled there. Impressed with the ideology of Clove Dental, I joined them. I tour around, treat patients and mentor the doctors at the clinic.

Necessity of flossing The need for a regular dental oss is very important. Proper ossing removes plaque & food particles in places where brush cannot easily reach - under the gum line & between your teeth.

Misconceptions First is that if you get your teeth cleaned by the dentist, it can become weak. Tooth cleaning is like taking your car for servicing. In fact, one should get his/her teeth cleaned in every 6 months. Don’t you want your teeth till the end? The other misconception is that if you get your upper tooth removed, you can turn blind. Well, removing upper or any tooth for that matter does not have any effect on a person’s eyesight. The nerves of the eye and the teeth are different. However, if dental anesthesia is not administered properly, a patient may experience swelling of the eyelid or blurred vision. No reason to get alarmed.

because there are just so many options. It is an individual preference but I recommend that you should at least consult your doctor once on this.

Know when to let go. Replace your toothbrush in every three to four months

Give your toothbrush a thorough rinse with water to remove debris. After use, don’t pop that wet brush back into cabinet. Store it upright, in a rack or cup, where it can dry out.

Brush your teeth twice a day and also after every meal.

Avoid using mouth wash on a regular basis as the bacteria might develop resistance to it.

Avoid using toothpicks. Instead opt for ossers.

or when it shows signs of wear. Frayed bristles won’t clean the teeth and gums adequately.

The dental chairs prevent cross-contamination to ensure the patient’s well-being. They are equipped with retractable valves that prevent oral uids from owing back into the chair tubing.

Quality Control We select the best candidates, train and motivate them to provide seless service. To keep a check and monitor the performance of doctors, a quality audit team pays a surprise visit to the clinics. They inspect and submit a feedback report to the officials at the head office. Then a separate team of senior doctors randomly check the doctor’s work. In this way, we ensure the patients get the best treatment. We have our own in-house Dental Healthline Center where you can lodge a complaint for even the smallest issue. You can be rest assured, immediate action will be taken. or those who have always envied the washboard abs of Ranveer Singh or the biceps of John Abraham and wondered that what would it take for them to get that celebrity level body? Hard work, of course. Seems like a no brainer. But that is not nearly enough. Hard work in the incorrect direction would only lead to injury. Behind those sculpted bodies you drool over, there is someone showing up every single day without a break, waiting to put their charges to task, breaking them to a sweat and cries in the gym, providing them with the information and insight they need and working as hard as, if not harder than, Ranveer or John. Dedication is the key to a chiseled body, but moot without a knowledgeable someone to train you. Picking a trained fitness coach, personal trainer, guru, whatever you choose to call this partner in fitness, is extremely important.

What major change have you seen? People are conscious of how they look, and how they can move to the next level. They want to challenge their limitations. Walk us through a perfect workout There are some basic rules of workout where warm up and cool down is a must. This includes stretches. A good form is as important as the right workout. Pushing one's limits has to be gradual. How do you determine a person’s workout potential? Anybody can do anything. It is about motivation and proper guidance. If the

need for any external factor to motivate me. But I do look forward to getting better thanks to the love and trust that my clients & students have in me.

How did you manage group workouts & personal training? At Gavin'z Gym, there is nothing like a group class unless a group is formed by friends. Unlike other gyms, we do not have a set routine for the day/week for groups. Every person is attended to personally and every workout is tailor made.

What is the secret behind your body/fitness? Eat right, workout right and then sleep tight.

How do you handle injuries? Stick to the right form. Injuries can be avoided fully. In case injuries do happen by some freak accident, we rest the area and isolate the muscle. After the recovery, the injured spot or area is worked upon with physiotherapy to make it stronger. If one has rested well and hydrated enough, injuries are rare. How do you ensure if a routine is really effective or not? A fitness routine if not effective, should not be a routine at all. Can you tell us one best story of transformation? Without wanting to sound pompous, it would be of what I have gone through myself. What keeps you motivated? I enjoy what I do, so there is no

Do you feel the pressure to be in perfect shape? No, of course not. It is about being healthy and fit. The shape comes only much later. What do you like best about your body? medical history before the start of any

Effective training Periodic observation and personal assessment with the client is my mode of check on the effectivity.

Best about your body? Symmetry. I work on balancing my upper and lower body to give a well-balanced appearance.

Best story of transformation? Till date my best transformation story has been a 45 year-old lady. She was a patient of epilepsy and would drop unconscious anytime. She was on a heavy dose of medications which cause side effects. She was prohibited from many physical activities. Weight gain was a major side-effect, along with prevalent depression. With my multi-fitness style of training, her weight started to reduce and inch loss was tracked. Her gradual transformation, not only physically but also in her internal system, makes me very proud.

What are your fitness goals? To get better than what I was and compete against myself to see the better version of me. A defined sculpted body, which should be strong enough to support all kinds of functionalities and challenges, and also to stay in great shape!

What keeps you motivated? My hunger for excellence in whatever I do especially in the areas of my passion. Ability to do things innovative with constant improvisation in methodology and style of training. Above all the happiness that I see from my clients when they feel motivated and turn healthier with my guidance and education. Secret behind your body/fitness? My mind-body-soul connection, from constant introspection of my own methods and programs, enables me to turn determined and disciplined towards myself. Also, the passion to be an inspiration for others and the hunger to get better than what I was yesterday. Do you feel the pressure to be in perfect shape? Yes, very much! Since I am a professional trainer, I naturally feel the pressure all the time.

Your thoughts on organic food? I love organic food as it is the food our ancestors had without using chemicals and preservatives. The current food options are quite adulterated and to maintain our shape we need to focus on the quality of food we consume. I strongly support organic food over vegan food as it has all the nutrition a body needs.

not get into external dependencies before they can actually understand their own body and fitness. Your favorite machine? My all time favorite machine is the functional training/crossfit equipment with all kinds of hanging workouts. I am a big fan of pull ups and any kind of hanging exercises as it trains most of my muscle groups and the rest is taken care by the floor based functional exercises. How do you define a perfect body? A body which is well balanced and symmetrical with the upper and lower portions and one which is agile and quick, yet strong enough to tackle any kind of situation with ease during times of emergency. A body which is graceful in its appearance, yet very strong in performance.

Who handles the marketing side of the business? I handle it. I am a passionate content-writer. In my spare time, I write articles for a couple of magazines and post my fitness writeups on Facebook and Instagram. What do you consider as a workout heaven & workout hell? On any given day, my workout heaven is open landscapes, woods, riverside plains and plateaus, rocky terrains, etc. Workout hell would be any claustrophobic location which is devoid of fresh air and light. What is the biggest mistake a fitness newbie makes? According to my experience, the biggest mistake a fitness newbie makes is going for supplements for quick results. There is no shortcut to results and one should

Perfect workout? For starters, I do not believe in perfection. I feel it is illusory and results in a false outcome. A good workout consists of Callisthenics (Body weight Training) and then progressing to high intensity training. One body part or muscle group a day with 30-second intervals between sets – keeping the weights ranging from light to medium for strength training, conditioning and performance and ending with 15 minutes of brisk walking or cycling.

How do you determine a person’s workout potential? I determine every client’s workout potential based on where they are when we connect and where they would like to be. I start gauging their output on a daily basis and pushing them a bit week after week to the best of their potential. How do you manage group workouts & personal training? I do not train groups, it is always one on one. I design/customise their nutrition and supplements based on medical history. The workout patterns are customised for individuals. How do you handle injuries? Make sure that the form of every exercise is correct and precise to avoid injuries. Wearing the correct support gear is important. If there are any injuries, medical measures are always available & down time is definitely a requirement. How do you ensure if a programme is effective? The trainer and trainee make the training. But then again for it to be effective my clients have to follow my instructions to the 'T'- from nutrition and supplementation to training methods. Best story of transformation? There are several, including my own, with a lot more to come. However, due to confidentiality agreements, I don’t display them. What keeps you motivated? Family keeps me motivated to be a better person everyday!

What do you like best about your body? Strangely, nothing in particular, just the fact that I’m obsessed and driven to be a better version of me every day. What are your fitness goals? A well rounded physique with no weakness! What is your typical routine? My typical routine would be training two body parts or muscle groups twice a week. That is six days a week training session with meal preps starting at 4:30 am and bedtime at 9:30 pm. Apart from client training, throughout the day and early evenings, Saturday evenings and Sunday is rest and down time. Your take on organic food & vegan diet? Organic foods are definitely safer and is not covered in cocktails of pesticides. However, it is very hard to make that judgement call. Best practice measure would be washing raw foods properly. I am not super choosy and keep my food really simple and as clean as possible, making sure that most of my nutrition is fresh.

cardio and a customised nutrition and supplementation plan. Biggest mistake a newbie makes? Not doing enough research. We live in the internet era where everything is freely available on Google. It is always good to research doubts and not just blindly trust/follow ‘N’ number of opinions. Your favourite machine? Human body is my favourite machine. You never know what it is capable of until you push the limits. How do you define a perfect body? Well-rounded, complete and symmetrical as possible. Basically no lagging muscular development. An example

Who handles the marketing? As a freelance Nutritionist/ Fitness coach, I handle my own business and marketing. It is always a one-on-one experience with me. That personal touch and integrity is very important. What is a workout heaven and workout hell? Well that is an easy one – workout hell would be exercising with incorrect form, hours of cardio and insufficient or inadequate nutrition. Workout heaven would be a wellplanned training session with correct form, precise amount of being, a lot of people avoid LEG day. They may develop a beautiful upper body which over powers their legs or vice-versa.

Secret behind your body/fitness? No rocket science here! I eat as clean as possible, no junk and I train religiously six days a week. Do you feel the pressure to be in perfect shape? I try and stay in the best shape year round and lead by example. red | 6th anniv. issue | 73

Nutrition education you received... I received nutrition education with ISSA. Apart from that, practically experimenting with food, learning their nutritional value, delivery & absorption timings has helped me.

What major change have you seen in people over the years? People have become more focused towards fitness. Be it for a desired body goal, for de-stressing or to improve athletic performance. Today, the fitness industry is growing at an unimaginable pace. People nowadays have become smarter and seek similarly smarter ways to incorporate fitness into their lifestyle. Could you kindly walk us through a perfect workout? Every person has a different body type and it all varies from person to person but one should never forget the basics. According to me, a good workout should consist of a proper warm-up so that one avoids injuries, followed by a proper training regimen depending on one’s goal. Then it is concluded by a proper cool down or stretching routine. How do you determine a person’s potential to be able to push them? Limitation comes from the mind. It is all about establishing a proper-muscle and mind-connection in order to push yourself through. I make sure to keep a positive mindset so that people can push through a workout session.

How do you manage group class workouts and personal training? It is all about driving people closer to their fitness goals. You have to master it. Whether it is a group training or a personal training, I make sure I work smart, work safe and educate them. That is what helps me. People are clueless when it comes to potential of the human body so I try to explain it. I make them see a clear connection with the anatomy of the human body and all the knowledge I have gained over the years. How do you handle injuries? I ensure safety first. A proper warm-up and cool-down and the right attitude towards the workout ensure that one is injury-free. What keeps you motivated? Of course, my motivation & inspiration is Gavin Sir. Secret to your body/fitness... Gavin sir. He is the best and brought out the best in me. There is no secret to it, just follow your fitness routine and nutrition programme properly. Do you feel the pressure to be in perfect shape? No, not really, as I am always focused on it. But there is a constant rush to

gain more and more knowledge and educate more and more people. What do you like best about your body? Everything. There is nothing I do not like about it. It is all about how you take care of your body and believing in yourself 100% and carrying it forward. What are your fitness goals? My fitness goals would be to always be the best and constantly keep evolving as there is a tough competition out there. What is your typical routine? I work out six times a week and depending upon what I want, I adjust my schedule accordingly. Working on weak points is the first thing at the start of the week, followed by my strengths depending on my goals. I keep adding variations. Who handles the marketing of business? I believe in the saying “Work hard in silence and let your success make the noise.” My body and my understanding of the fitness subject does my work. There has never been a need for anything else. What is the biggest mistake a fitness newbie makes? Fitness newbies try to jump up instead of focusing on the basics and foundation. Nowadays, I see newcomers walking into the gym doing all sorts of exercises from random internet sources ignoring their goals & body type. Most of them ignore the nutrition and rest part as well. We need to educate them and guide them in the right direction. Your favourite machine? The best and the most complex machine is the human body itself. People are unaware of its strengths and capabilities. And after that, it would be the Smith machine to workout on. How do you define a perfect body? To me, a perfect body is not all about looks. It is all about being better and healthier than you were before. There are no set rules of what a perfect body is. For many it may be striving to feel energised, looking fit, being athletic or a combination of all three.

W

ith a successful stint behind him in Delhi and Bengaluru, a beerloving chemical engineer-turned-businessman decides to test his expertise and acumen with beer in Hyderabad. Owned and

brewed by Vikram Seam, Vapour Brew Pub, is one of the most happening places in the city. People from all over the city flock to Road No 36, where Vapour Brew Pub is located.

Tell us something about yourself. How did you come into business? Academically, I got a B.E. degree in Chemical Engineering and Masters in Plastics Technology. However, in my heart, I was always fixated on settling in the hospitality industry. In 2001, I laid the foundation of this endeavor and since then, there has been no looking back. What gave you the courage to start a brewery, still considered a new concept in Hyderabad? We had a restaurant in Gurgaon which was running well but I wanted to do something bigger and better. I myself as an individual, love beer, and in 2009 when I was planning to revamp our business, we converted our restaurant into a brewery. Thus, red | 6th anniv. issue | 58

the brand VAPOUR was born. After a successful stint in Delhi, Bengaluru and Gurgaon, I was eagerly eyeing Hyderabad and 2016 marked the completion of my long-cherished desire. The city was new to the beer culture, but we were sure that with our expertise, experience and taste, we would redefine beer experience.

an apt place. After setting up, the hurdle was to educate the crowd. Hyderabad was new to the beer culture, but because a few breweries had already come up, they had set the mood for us. All we had to do is show our audience a unique taste and experience and get them hooked to brand Vapour.

Any initial hiccups? As we have set up breweries in different cities before, setting up the place and getting the right equipment was not at all a problem. However, the concern was to find the right place, considering that Hyderabad is a crowded city and traffic is a concern. We wanted a place that would be well-connected as well as cosy. Thankfully, we found

hat comes to your mind when we say Zero40? The STD code of Hyderabad? It is time you begin to associate it with fun, music and most importantly, craft beer. Started by Anoor and Aditya, Zero40 has become a must-visit destination on Road 10.

y 7 Zero40

Tell us something about yourself. How did you come into business? Anoor has an MBBS and an MBA degree. Aditya has a Masters degree in Physics & runs his family business, a diversified conglomerate. We both have always loved beer! A random discussion (over beer) about putting Hyderabad on the national beer map led to Zero40. What gave you the courage to start a brewery, still considered a new concept in Hyderabad? We wanted to start a beer-themed place before the microbrewery licenses were given out and we were looking at getting kegs from various countries. Once the microbrewery policy was announced, it just made more sense to start a brewery in Hyderabad. We came up with a few names and put it to vote with family and friends. We are a democracy after all! Of all names, Zero40 was selected red | 6th anniv. issue | 60

as it also refers to the STD dialling code of Hyderabad (040). Any initial hiccups? Time was the biggest challenge. We have one of the biggest breweries in Hyderabad by square footage and it was a huge challenge to get it up and running. We had a target of opening in December 2016 and we managed to meet that target. What makes your beers different from others? Our quality and consistency set us apart. Our in-house lab makes it easier for brewmaster to ensure that each batch is consistent with the previous in terms of aroma, colour, texture

and flavour. We are introducing new beers at a pace not a lot others do. Over the past few months, we have had a Dubbel, a Dark Mild and India Pale Ale is currently on tap. In the next few weeks, we will be launching an Irish Red, followed by a dry Irish Stout. Stay tuned.

Who is your brewmaster? Tell us something about him. George Jacob is our consulting brewmaster. He has brewed in New Zealand and the UK before moving to India in early 2017. After many years of practical brewing, he studied British Brewing Technology at Brewlab, England. He is a Cicerone Level 1 as well as a member of a number of brewing associations worldwide. He won awards for his Grapefruit IPA while in the UK, which is being served at all Head of Steam pubs across England today. Along with George, we also have the support of his company, The Beer Chronicles, which includes two other brewmasters and a chef! What’s on the food menu? Zero40 Brewing features very creative menus depicting colourful caricatures for each brew style and recommends food that go with particular flavour profiles. The staff are always happy to help with suggestions of what food items would go with different types of beer. For example, Go Swami goes well with the beer battered fish and chips and the fried chicken with waffles. The Blue Camel goes well with the butter garlic prawns in a wonton cup and the Old Timer would go well with Jack Daniel BBQ Wings.

How do you handle competition? I think it is fantastic! It is not just breweries and pubs coming up in various cities. We are also seeing new craft beer brands becoming available in bottles outside of pubs. To make craft beer more accessible to people, it is great if brewing pubs can keg and sell to bars and restaurants. For far too long, we have had a brand or two dominating the beer market. I say the more variety, the better!

and the most varied beers and they are designed to appeal to everyone. We will continue to innovate and push the boundaries of the craft brewing industry with our relaxed ambience and choice of seating areas. If you want to sit in a quiet outdoor area we have that, if you want a party scene, we have that and if you want large community style seating with tons of board games, we have that too! ON THE BLOCK

S

irisha Reddy launched her eponymous designer label recently in Jubilee Hills. Each outfit is crafted after a thorough study and research. The end result is the unique outfits, perfect fits and quality. The brand does not fail in maintaining the quality and comfort. Their 5,000 sq.ft. store is based on a vintage theme with an exclusive premium bridal lounge with a minar concept. Divided into different sections, the store is well designed & planned. The highlights is the sari room with yet another vintage theme. It has very old sewing machines in the rack and the black big switches which were in vogue decades ago. The lehenga section is in the centre of the store with pieces hung to the brass chains from the ceiling. On offer are designer wear dresses, lehengas, saris, long gowns, western wear, kids wear, menswear and formals. They specialise in making customised bridal lehengas and promise to deliver the outfits meeting deadlines.

They design bridal outfits using unique technical methods and with a one-on-one client interaction, they make sure that the product delivered meets the clients’ expectations. The manufacturing and production of all the outfits are created in Kurnool. The unit takes care of the entire process-right from dyeing to the finished product. Since the endeavour is of Sirisha Reddy and Sanjay Kumar Reddy, one can expect comfort, quality and uniqueness before they step into this studio.

n outfit paired with the right footwear is all you need to look PERFECT. No wonder, the most tedious task is to match these two. What if you find a place that brings you both under one roof? What a relief it would be. Lucky, there is one. You got us right. Spread over 12,000 sq.ft. and divided into two floors of shopping (and one floor for an exclusive collection), Centro, located on the busy streets of Paradise, Secunderabad, is turning out to be nothing short of a proper fashion house. Most conveniently, this store boasts a tremendous range of apparels & accessories along with an equally gravity-defying stacks of collections of footwear. Tapping on the fact that there are no multi-branded stores in Secunderabad, this store has a smart competitive edge. With the intention of bringing fashion under one roof, it houses apparel brands such as US Polo, Flying Machine, Spykar, Break Bounce, Mufti,

Basic, Redtape, Arrow, ITE, Amstead, Crocodile, Status Quo, Enryca and more. And these are just to name a few. To recite all the brands would make one run out of breath. With a successful stint in Paradise, Secunderabad and with the confidence to hit the market with their innovation and amalgamation of brands, the store management is all set to open three more stores across the city and even one in Rajahmundry. If you love shopping but are lazy to hop around shops, we are sure you know where to head. Happy Shopping!!!!

engaluru has been considered the home-base for breweries, thriving under the patronage of its famously bibulous residents for decades. But as always, our city’s sybarites are set to give them close competition. Thanks to them, the hospitality industry has been having a roaring run in Hyderabad for years. The observant Telangana Government was quick to open the gates for liquor licensing in 2016, launching an alcohol revolution in the city. Within no time, watering holes sprung up by the dozen in the heart of the city, flourishing under the patronage of thirsty connoisseurs. et high on life and celebrate it large and loud. That is the mantra of HyLife. Standing tall on Road No. 36, this place embodies its name. Started by successful hotelier Kedar Selagamsetty, this place offers the best line up of craft beer but has much more to offer for one and all.

Tell us something about yourself I am a Hyderabadi and a hotelier from the United States. I wanted to bring a hospitality experience, that is unique, back to my hometown. I was looking for the right & perfect opportunity to convert my expertise into an experience for Hyderabad. I wanted to come up with a place that would offer much more than good food, beer and an ambience. That's when I opened HyLife in 2016- to bring a world-class nightlife experience to Hyderabad.

red | 6th anniv. issue | 46

What gave you the courage to start a brewery, still considered a new concept in Hyderabad? I have travelled all throughout the world and enjoyed craft brews from various parts. I truly believe locallybrewed craft beer brings an identity to a city. I noticed all the major metros throughout India had established microbreweries, with Hyderabad being the only city remaining. I saw this as a huge opportunity to bring this experience to my city and I made it my mission to bring a microbrewery

to Hyderabad. In 2016, we launched Hylife Brewing Company as the city's first microbrewery. We host countless events with famous international artistes and regularly have sold-out concerts along the lines of events at Hitex and Gachibowli Stadium. I take pride in being able to redefine the clubbing experience in this city.

Any initial hiccups? We did not face many issues with setting up and targeting the market because plenty of Hyderabadis have been to Bangalore’s microbreweries. We did have issues establishing a proper craft beer culture here in Hyderabad. It took some time to educate the public on local craft beer. What makes your beers different from others? We have 6 different brews which are all unique in their own sense. We have a strong ale which packs a punch as well as a lighter wheat beer. We have an apple cider which is incredibly tasty and a must try for customers. While working on the recipes, we

wanted to ensure that we cater to all tastes and preferences. Who is your brewmaster? Tell us something about him. We have a brewmaster named Eiphen, who has worked for over 20 years in breweries all over India. He has worked alongside many German Brewmasters and has developed recipes to cater to the Indian palate. What’s on the food menu? We understand the importance of tasty food to complement your drinks. Therefore, we have a vast variety of

quality starters. I highly suggest our non-veg and tandoor starters such as gai bai toi, paneer tikka and tai pei fish. Within no time, the number of breweries has increased. Your thoughts on managing competition. We are not only a brewery, but we are also Hyderabad's premier nightclub. We have a wide range of environments throughout our venue and we cater to the laid-back, beer-loving and lounge crowd as well as the hard-partying ones.
