PUBLISHER’S NOTE

Mr.Narendra Modi at the Centre, Dr.K.Chandrasekhar Rao in Telangana and Mr.N.Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh have taken the reins of governance. We congratulate them for their landslide victory and hope they will put the country on the fast track of progress. It is also time Mr.Naidu and Mr. KCR buried the hatchet and moved on with their respective developmental plans for the newly-formed states. Let us hope Mr.Modi will stick to his word on special packages to these states and Mr. Naidu keeps his promise of developing all the districts equally. Let the people of Andhra Pradesh not turn back after five years and regret losing Hyderabad. I urge both the governments to work in tandem to build two exemplary states. The place of pride, the cover space is given to Adah. The actor, though new to Tollywood, has created a niche for herself. Designer Jeeja Valsaraj imports the latest trends to the city and keeps the girls-next-door in the main loop of fashion. Anjum Babukhan had left the comforts of the US to educate the future citizens of India. The Eve segment speaks of these two ladies who have been contributing significantly to the society in their own unique ways. Mr. G.Shivkumar, is one among the firsts to have helped the city log onto IT field. He has punched the right keys and what we see on display is sweet success. He shares the GenX space with Mr.Chaitania, an ardent equestrian, who won the race at a very young age. Mr.M.V.Satyanarayna, in charge of expansive Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, has many plans for its betterment and development. We present the man and his mission in Life. After a hectic schedule and hard work of putting the magazine together, I seemed to have got a well-earned and wonderful break in the form of my 25th birthday. I am overwhelmed by the warmth and wishes that poured in from the members of the family and friends. It is only fitting that I express my gratitude to my father, mother and my beloved sister, who shower me with unconditional love and affection and stand by me in any and every situation. I also thank all my well wishers who remembered me on my birthday and made it the most memorable day for the years to come. I wish to wind up, touching once again on the sweeping changes the country has witnessed recently. “Together we will script a glorious future for India,” tweeted Mr. Modi after taking oath. I assure him that we, the youth, are equally motivated to do our bit.

VIZAG AKSHARA TURNS ONE “Balloons and balloons, one little candle on the cake, one birthday wish to make, our little princess is about to turn one, so we have a big party that is sure to be so much fun”, read the invitation card itself, giving just a hint how excited the family was for this special occasion. Of course, when it is about the celebration of the first birthday of a baby girl in a family that did not see a girl child in five decades, the revelry ought to be a grand one. That was what exactly happened when grandparents Mr. V.L.V. Satyanarayana and Mrs. Padmalatha, uncle Mr.V.Yagnesh Bharath and aunt Ms.Divya and the proud parents Mr.V.Hari Pavan and Ms.Priyanka celebrated the first birthday of the adorable Akshara. Though held on a grand scale, the event saw only a few close friends and family members attending it as the celebration was kept as a very private affair. The star of the day baby Akshara looked absolutely endearing in a traditional dress. Donning a ‘Princess’ theme, the Park, which was chosen as the venue for this special occasion, was looking nothing less than a fairy world. Leading event manager and decorator, Ms.Alka Jaju was given the responsibility to wave her creative wand to build a magical space. A special castle of balloons was erected, which was the entry to the little princess Akshara’s world. Fairies, angels, flowers and many such elements adorned the set. The hosts ensured every aspect of the celebration to be an a uber lavish affair. Thus the Executive Chef Srinath Sambandan took charge of the epicure segment personally. A grand spread of delicacies was served to satiate the guests. However, the prime attraction of the gastronomic affair was the specialty of the Krishna district to which the hosts belong, prepared personally by Mr. Srinath.

REDEFINING HEALTH CARE

C

ontinental hospitals set up a world class Oncology department with a goal to “arrest cancer at the right time and make cancer a history to their patients.”

The hospital in Gachibowli is built with an objective to bring world class health care within the reach of the common man in India. Built over a 30000sq ft area, the Centre is equipped with most advanced technology. Dr. Ramanamoorthy Chitti said that his radiation Oncology department had acquired the state of art advanced technology “TrueBeam Stx” linear accelerator. The hospital ambience itself lifts your spirits and the personal care rendered here assures you that you are in safe hands. “Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) approach and clinical effectiveness are essential parts of our work ethos. Treatment strategies are drawn by a team of doctors drawn from various disciplines. We also focus on post-treatment follow up,” says Dr. Praveen Dadireddy, Consultant Surgical Oncologist. “The problem here is lack of guidance. Patients don’t know which institution is right for them. There are institutes that rush to take up surgeries and therapies to appease the patients who are naturally in a hurry to get cured. Cancer treatment is time consuming. The patients should educate themselves before getting into the treatment mode. Medicine is an interdependent science and not an independent science. The right treatment, given at the right time can cure any disease,” says Dr. Guru N Reddy, Chairman. Different types of cancer warrant different treatment strategies and Continental has in-house super-specialists who have experience in treating cancer that affects specific area like breast, brain, lever, GI etc. The hospital also conducts health camps at schools, corporate houses and rural areas. It has reserved a hotline to answer any queries that patients or their family members may have and they are encouraged to avail this opportunity. The kids would just love the place and the interesting stationery. Adults too are bound to wish they were kids. In addition to the exclusive stationery, there is a good range of return gifts, money envelopes and invitation cards. ASHOK MAKES IT BIG North Andhra is jubilant as Ashok Gajapathi Raju, the lone MP from the TDP from Vizianagaram made it to the Union cabinet. The gentleman politician and scion of Pusapati royal family has been handpicked by TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu to serve as the ‘voice’ of the regional party at the Centre and stand for the interests of North Andhra. It is the most defining moment of Ashok’s political career spanning over 35 years. Incidentally, Ashok who once aspired to be a pilot holds Civil Aviation berth. Had he become a pilot, he would have only headed the crew of his flight. But now he has the entire aviation sector under his wings. Ashok, who proved his mettle as finance and revenue minister in the state, is sure to take the country’s air connectivity in general and that of Seemandhra in particular, to new heights. For vexed Vizianagariks, who suffered Botsa till recently, Ashok comes as a whiff of fresh air.

RUDDERING VPT Senior IAS officer M.T. Krishna Babu, who took charge as the Chairman of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust, is no stranger to Vizag as he served here as the Joint Collector earlier. The prestigious VPT is not only synonymous with Vizag, but also is a major contributor to the region’s coffers. In addition to the privilege of heading an all important organization like VPT, Krishna Babu also enjoys the reputation of being an impeccably clean bureaucrat. The locals, who are happy about his return, repose immense faith in him. The buzz is that the beleaguered VPT will flourish into a profitmaking entity under his able stewardship. For Krishna Babu who already has a number of well-wishers and friends in the region, it certainly is a smooth transition. It is said a number of shipping tycoons and port-dependant industrialists are making a beeline to Krishna Babu hoping to woo and win him over. It has to be seen if he would succumb to the pulls and pressures or swims in the troubled waters with his nose safely above water.

REALTY TO REEL It won’t be wrong to call him the macho player in the realm of realty. To justify it further, let’s take a deeper look. He is known as the builder and body builder. No more guesses, he is M.V.V. Satyanarayana. A passionate man with a creative mind, he is far different from his counterparts. He spends dedicated time for bodybuilding and fitness and has a great penchant for super bikes. Recently he has added one more area to his creative pursuits, i.e. films. He has produced a woman-oriented movie casting Anjali in the lead which is slated to release this month. A very candid MVV tells his close associates that he may switch to movies completely, shifting his focus from construction, if everything goes well. He feels that the silver screen has a lot more to offer compared to the ‘dry’ field of construction. There is a talk that he may even launch his son as a hero. Time has to reveal how tall his reel ventures will be!

VICTIMIZED VIJAYAMMA It is a case of “more sinned against than sinning” when Vijayamma paid dearly with her defeat for the follies of her coterie. Despite her clean image, she had to face a humiliating defeat because of her so called supporters. It was said that the YSRCP goons who accompanied her to the city to campaign had given a taste of the Kadapa faction culture to the peace-loving Vizagites, that obviously left a bitter taste in their mouths. The YSRCP men went to the extent of threatening the members of the Chowdary community that they would be brought to their knees, once Vijayamma came to power. Countering these threats, the community’s bigwigs huddled into a meeting where it was resolved that attempts to import faction politics into the tranquil region would not be tolerated. Besides taking the message to the voters most effectively, they rendered their rock solid support to BJP candidate K. Haribabu and ensured his thumping victory.

HOOKED TO GET BOOKED? Birds of same feathers flock together, but here we have two birds who are not only flocking but also are getting locked as well! There is a buzz raging for a while around the tinsel town that Jwala Gutta and Harshvardhan Rane are in a relationship. There are talks that many directors and producers are booking them for their upcoming projects by cashing in on the couple’s growing intimacy. However, while Jwala keeps mum, Harshavardhan refutes the rumours saying that he bags films purely on his steam and needs no props. While on one hand people are curious to know whether it is a gimmick or is he in denial. It is to be seen where this controversy-laden relationship ends.

ANOTHER JAGAN IN MAKING?

TDP supremo N Chandrababu’s son Lokesh seems to have hogged the limelight in the recently held ‘Mahanadu’ which was held to mark the birth anniversary of TDP founder the late N T Rama Rao. Playing a proactive role, Lokesh was seen leaving no stone unturned to give a boost to the party’s image. It is said that while his mornings were spent in the party activities, his evening were reserved for meetings with businessmen and industrialists and closing deals which could be lucrative for the party and family too. While some think that he is turning into another Jagan, others feel that he is faster than Jagan. Since the party had a sabbatical of sort as it was out of power for 10 years, the family had to be content with their existing businesses. He must have thought that the party rose like a Phoenix and it is time to make hay while the sun shines. He plans to give big projects to the sons of politicos and business tycoons, expecting a considerable percentage, goes the buzz. SHREE’S SURPRISE It’s time to cheer her again! It is no exaggeration if one says that she is one of the most stunning women in the city of Nizams. Any guesses? She is the hot and happening socialite and entrepreneur, Shreedevi Chowdary. Known for her bold attitude and lavish lifestyle, this lady is going to celebrate her birthday on 19th June. When it is about her special day, it ought to be grand parties with unlimited fun and copious spread of exotic edibles and potables. Of course she would not settle for anything less. The head honchos and the elite figure in her guest list. While her last year’s bash was truly an extravagant affair, her friends and well wishers are holding their breath to find out what their favourite has Shree got to offer this year. What will she wear? What will she serve and where will she hold the do? Looks like a big surprise is in the offing!

LOYAL LEADER The businessman-turned-actor Murali Mohan has been in active politics and got elected on the TDP ticket as an MP from Rajahmundry. Undaunted by his defeat in 2009 elections, he stayed loyal to the party even when it was not in power. He is highly dedicated to politics despite the fact that he is a business tycoon and into the film-making besides having dealership of Maruti cars. He, as the honorary president of the Telugu Movie Artists Association, maintains a cordial relationship with everyone. With his victory he proved that besides being a successful businessman he is a good politician too. His Murali Mohan Charitable Trust provides free education for pupils who secure 85% in both SSC and Intermediate and below 10,000 rank in EAMCET or any other preferred entrance tests. His welfare activities make him dwell in the hearts of the needy. Celebrities generally come to politics on invitation of parties, but the star set an example that they can enter politics through hard work and honest endeavours too.

A staircase symbolises an ascent that is positive, hopeful and purposeful. Perhaps that is where the real connect lies. Shiv has taken the climb to success, without wavering on a single step. It has been a heady stride for Shiv, who entered the IT sector floating his own company at the age of 28. Though he stands tall and triumphant at the vantage point, Shiv doesn’t lose sight of the first step he had taken. A good-humoured, unassuming and an easy to-open-conversation-with Shiv retraces his success story for the benefit of red.

HOLLYWOOD MASALA Topless to Bottomless American actress Kristen Jaymes Stewart who is best known for playing Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga and for her prolific work in independent films, was in Cannes promoting her new film Clouds of Sils Maria, catching the people unawares appearing bottomless. Though not completely bottomless, she was lying in bed in a thong around the 1:03 mark. Earlier, she went topless for a Florabotanica ad. Looks like she is gradually revealing every inch of herself at different times like puzzle pieces. After all, brief glimpses of nudity are what international film festivals are all about.

BOLLYWOOD MASALA D Jacky Soon after wrapping up the shooting of Salman Khan-starrer Kick, Jacqueline Fernandez turned DJ at Bandra’s Pali Bhavan. The guest-list at the gig included friends Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor, among others. A friend says, “Jacky knows how to use the console well as her father is a popular DJ but she took everybody by surprise. The music she chose was retro, R&B and hiphop. Apart from turning out chartbusters, she also hit the dance floor much to the delight of all the patrons.” To match up the new found vocation, she sported a quirky purple wig. She was joined by the club owner Mishali Sanghani, who came up with the idea of Jacky turning DJ.

Bonding Sessions Smita Patil’s son Prateik Babbar had had a traumatic childhood as he grew up without the presence of his mother, who passed away or his father Raj Babbar. Not having the constant support of his dad affected him. It seems everything is hunky-dory now in their household. Of late, interestingly, the father-son have ‘bonding’ sessions that are headed by Raj Babbar, telling Prateik stories about his mother Smita. With a string of duds in his career and not having a strong father figure to look up to till now Prateik could not deliver the goods. Now that he is back to bonding with his dad, we hope he makes better choices.

TOLLYWOOD MASALA Anushka Ends Up With Jammed Joints Besides looking good, heroines should fit into different roles with élan to make a mark for themselves. If they wish to work with a director like Gunasekhar, they should be ready to slog t out as working under him is as tough as working in a brick kiln. Anushka is left with body pains following busy schedules for her upcoming movie Rudrama Devi. After doing some heavy-duty sword fights she ended up with jammed joints. She has to use Putturu tailam to soothe her aching muscles. Even then she looks indefatigable and says the success of film will make all her efforts worthwhile.

Pawan Factor Looks like the makers of ‘Deva Devam Bhaje’ are in the grip of a bad sentiment. The film is the remake of Bollywood blockbuster ‘Oh My God’. There are instances that many a remake of Bollywood hits bit the dust at the BO in Telugu. Victory’ Venkatesh and ‘Energetic’ Ram-starrer ‘Masala’, the remake of ‘Bol Bachchan’, is insipid and lost its flavor. Sekhar Kammula’s ‘Anaamika’, the remake of ‘Kahaani’ failed to write a success story. Nani’s ‘Aha Kalyanam’, the remake of ‘Band Baaja Baraat’ ended on rocks. Sunil’s ‘Mr.Pellikoduku’, the remake of ‘Tanu Weds Manu’. failed to woo Tollywood fans. Producers should realize that the above sentiment may not work for ‘Oh My God’ remake, as Pawan Kalyan’s blockbuster ‘Gabbar Singh’ was the remake of ‘Dabangg’. Obviously, this remake is expected to be a hit due to Pawan Kalyan’s factor.

Dark Souls II An action role-playing game, Dark Souls II is the sequel to the highly- acclaimed Dark Souls. The new action game is quite different from its genre where button mashing works. Whereas Dark Souls II requires a well-thought-out strategy or the player will be faced with death. Each time the player dies he returns as an undead, with each death reducing his maximum health by a fraction. Even minute things such as finding a place to heal or using a Human Effigy — used to revive your undead self — are felt like a whiff of fresh air. It is an uncompromising look at how difficult games can be, while making the reward just addictive enough that you will want to keep trying over and over again. To sum it up Dark Souls II needs all your wits, reactions and skills just to survive — and this is what makes it such a rewarding experience.

books The Girl Who Never Was (Otherworld #1) On her 17th birthday, Selkie Stewart, the protagonist of the book, learns of her magical heritage, parentage and destiny. She was raised by her aunts in Boston when her mother deserted her when her father was in a lunatic bin. Brought up as an anti-social, she discovers that she is half-faerie (and half-ogre) and that Boston was built and is inhabited by other supernatural creatures and she is one of four fays prophesied to overthrow the Seelie Court...and that her mother, the queen, wants to kill her. She finds it hard to know who to trust. Leaf through these 304 pages if you wish to know if her mother really wants to kill her? And does Ben really love her? Skylar Dorset (Goodreads Author) excels in physical descriptions but falters with an arbitrary adventure and a clichéd faerie selfdiscovery/romance/prophecy plot. A decent but unremarkable addition to the flock of teen faerie tales. Paperback | 304 pages | Expected publication: June 1st 2014 by Sourcebooks Fire

Spread over a vast expanse the campus looked vibrant, the carefreeness on the faces of the students of diverse age groups spoke about the real concept of burden-free education and even the teachers too seemed friendly, quite unlike from many other educational institutes. Among all these, here appeared the creator of this beautiful world of stress-free education, Ms. Anjum Babukhan. As young and elegant Anjum started narrating her journey after ushering us into her chamber with a warm welcome, we were amazed to learn about her ideas and see the host of accolades adorning the walls of her cabin. Her identity does not stop at being the co-founder and Director-Education of Glendale Academy, she was also the Education Chairperson of Young Indians, which is a part of CII (she was instrumental in setting up the first “Akshara” – a centre with learning aids for poor students ), represented India for two global conferences, WISE (Women’s Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equality) and MLT (Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow). She is also the only Muslim woman to have chaired the women’s wing of FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) which serves the general population as well as Education Chair of CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) in Hyderabad.

laugh. However, she insists that her being away did not distance her from India and her soul is always Indian. She has high regards for the Indian heritage. Thanks to her parents who made it a point to stay connected to their roots. Right from speaking Urdu to wearing traditional clothes during festivals or celebrations to observe “tehzeeb” (etiquettes), Anjum had everything that kept her to be an Indian away from India. “My friends who I grew up with said I was the most “Indian” amongst them all, and only I could have settled in India after growing up in the US,” she adds. All this notwithstanding, she was a little apprehensive about moving to Hyderabad. But to her surprise, everything worked out and the shift was smooth and hassle-free. Highs and Lows of Hyderabad With a very supportive and progressive in-laws and husband, the transition

became quite easy for her. It allowed her to return to her roots and flourish in Hyderabad. She also realized and accepted the fact that every place has its share of pros and cons, be it America or Hyderabad. Quite obviously, she figured out the disadvantages of this new place very soon. During her pregnancies she craved for certain food. “For years I prayed for Pizza Hut, Subway or Italian restaurant to open an outlet in Hyderabad and my prayers were answered after many years,” she recollects. Counting ‘pros’ she states when she got married, her father-in-law, Mr.Bashiruddin Babukhan was a Minister in the state cabinet for Higher Education and Major Industries. Naturally, she got to meet luminaries from different walks of life as she used to accompany her in-laws to various events. She also got engaged in meaningful programmes, social service and education.

Early Life Her parents who hail from Hyderabad migrated to the US soon after their marriage more than four decades ago. She is the eldest born and has one brother and two sisters. Anjum was brought up in a simple, conservative middle class family settled in the suburbs of Chicago. Anjum recollects how shy and what an introvert she was during her school days. Surprisingly, by the end of her high school studies, she turned out to be a complete extrovert and gregarious person. She had not only become a high honor roll student, but also had participated in a number of extracurricular activities. She even earned the tag of “Junior Miss” in Chicagoland’s Scholastic Pageant. Her academic achievements included 11 scholarships that saw her through her graduation. After studying Psychology, she enrolled herself in the Honors Program at Loyola University. Later, she pursued M.Ed in Educational Administration and Instructional Leadership. She met Salman, who attended the same university, both of them become friends and one fine day he proposed to her. The response was obviously a ‘Yes’. Her marriage to Salman brought her back to India. India as she saw and got connected When she was just nine, she visited the country once, but young Anjum didn’t like it much as there were no TV channels for kids nor was there pizza, she quips with a hearty

Inclination towards the noblest profession- Education Doing something meaningful, where she can invest her creative thought, was her calling right from the childhood. After trying out various professions, finally she settled for psychology. She always wished to stay connected with campus life and in a university atmosphere. She had plans to teach this subject at the college level, have a counseling practice and render service to society soon after obtaining Ph.D. in psychology. However, she took a diversion as during her last semester she got engaged to Salman, who encouraged her to consider education. He felt this subject had a better and brighter scope in India. Moreover,

counseling was not so prevalent during those days. “Development of mind and person, as a whole, is related to both education as well as psychology. In education, there was bigger reach so I was happy to alter my plans. One of my focus areas became brain-based teaching – teaching with the brain in mind, she explains. It created the base and she mulled on how to put them into practice along with many futuristic concepts once she lands in India. Her dream project came in the form of Glendale Academy, which she co-founded with her father-in-law. Challenges Setting up a huge 10 acre-campus way back in 2003 was itself a

challenge. People were apprehensive about viability of such a project. Some people felt Glendale Academy was favorable only to the Muslim Community. But it wasn’t the case. The school was and is a secular school and will remain a global community amplifying the common universal human values. Secondly, the resistance came from the parents who were used to their kids being taught in a certain way in schools and were insisting on the traditional methods. Especially, parents of the students of higher classes were more anxious about marks. Co-curricular activities were perceived as a distraction. Parents failed to understand that these activities can teach much more than the conventional teaching through books. This way child goes a step further and develops other skills. She is glad that with her and her teachers’ constant efforts over the years parents today welcome the engaging method of education. “We stress that a holistic and enriching foundation paves the way for more confident learners. We believe in learning for life and not just school.” Changes initiated She had gained expertise in the application of multiple intelligence theory which reads “the more ways we teach, the more children we reach.” It is more student-centric. She tried to pick the best practices from the east and west. She emphasises teaching-learning should be ‘brain-compatible’ and thus she believes in empowering her teachers. She has trained thousands of them over the years. Other initiatives employed in the school drew more from developmental psychology from the work of Erikson, Piaget and Vygotsky. This helped the school incorporate developmentally appropriate teaching practices. There was also a lot of organizational psychology applied to staff’s professional development.

“The more ways we teach, the more children we reach.”

Edvantage Teacher Leadership Institute Set up in 2011, Edvantage Teacher Leadership Institute made her dream come true of having a teaching leadership institute. She had designed multiple modules which she calls a “Teacher’s Toolbox”. One of its key programmes is GTD – the Global Teacher Development Program. She has teachers who are keen to learn more tricks of the trade and globally she has mentors who are willing to coach and share their learning. “We have set up a mentor with 2-3 mentees and in addition the enrolled teachers meet monthly for a webinar and have 2-3 assignments per month for half a year,” she explains.

Besides educating students she gives equal importance to right parenting techniques. In 2001 she attended the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting Program in the US. She organises workshops to share the principles of how one can boost efficiency as parents to raise children who feel loved, have high self-esteem and who are at the same time responsible. red | june 2014 | 98

Blend of East and West “East is east and West is west, and the best is in Glendale,” states Anjum. As a child, whatever she

cherished back in her school, one can spot them at the Glendale Academy. Be it the cozy storytelling area in the library, the extensive art and music studios, landscaped gardens, adventure playground, corners with encouraging messages; such welcoming concepts are seen everywhere. The share of Indian elements includes yoga, traditional Indian dance forms, etc. “We are members of SPICMACAY and have national and international artistes who perform for our children throughout the year. Our students should develop as global citizens and be aware of the Indian milieu which is their heritage.” To stay updated She loves to learn. Thus she keeps doing courses in education, leadership every few months. She also visits some of the best universities like Harvard, Cambridge and attends national and international conferences in Education. Multi-tasking With a grin on her face, she asks “do I?” She feels perhaps she keeps learning one way or the other. But balancing is hard. Keeping in touch with all bases is a must for anyone. If she is lucky enough some days might appear better than the day before. Earlier, with a hope of not allowing stress to settle in, she used to plan ahead, stick to it and keep working on and on as she was a control-freak and perfectionist. But often she used to end up being victimised in the process as it used to take a toll on her. She has now mastered the art to go with the flow and be relaxed. She is neither reachable nor available for any calls for personal issues during her school hours. Similarly, once home, she is just with her children. “You have to take care of yourself, exercise, sleep, eat well and find out some “me-time.” Otherwise, you will be too “spent” and will not be a very good company.”

“Being away did not distance me from India and my soul is always Indian.”

Role model She has many, as she feels one has a myriad of things to learn from not just one but multiple sources. She makes a special mention of an idea in Robin Sharma’s book, “Who will cry when you Die?” where he talks about the idea of having a personal imaginary advisory board in your head to guide you in all matters. She follows it religiously.

Her thoughts • I was insistent on living life to the fullest within those conservative limits of my parents. I am God-conscious so I don’t think I would have done anything drastic. • I wish there were more than 24 hours in a day. After learning the hard way, my mantra is “do your best, and let God do the rest.” • No matter how much we all contribute to society, it is hardly scratching the surface. We have a long way to go! It’s important that everyone does what he/she can in their circle of influence. • Education and economic empowerment lead to social empowerment.

COMMITTED COMMISSIONER By V. Sarada

Shoot by Dhana Vijay

I shall cut the birthday cake only after my grandpa comes,” declared Tanmayi, the cute 5year-old, looking expectantly at her grandfather who was seriously pouring over files, snatching a few moments in between the non-stop meetings he was holding with queuing visitors at his official residence. He somehow makes time for a quick ‘cake’ bite and tiny peck on the child’s cheek before he goes back to the place of action. That is how the days go by for the Commissioner of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, Mr. M.V.Satyanarayana - whether it is a regular day or a special day like this one.
