hose who feel yoga is just about slow and boring movements and demands a long time to show any result of weight loss, then they must have not come across this variant. Even a few minutes can jolt most of the fitness freaks, as you are here in a room with above 40 degree temperature and are meant to do series of over 20 asanas literally non-stop. After creating a craze in metros and also in western countries for many years, Age Hot Yoga brings Hot Yoga for the first time in Vizag. Located in Seethammadhara, near Alluri Sitharamaraju Statue, this place can be your weight loss hub. There are separate classes for men and women. It claims that hot yoga burns more calories than any other form of exercise. One hour session can burn up to 1000 calories and in a month one can lose between 5-10 kg of weight. Over 30 asanas are included in the one hour session, out which every day 20 variants are practiced on a rotation basis. However, the highlight is the heated studio. The combination of heat and yoga boosts metabolism and promotes rapid weight loss. Not just this, the other benefits include detoxification, pain reduction, increasing the spine strength, adding to exibility, developing stamina, burning fat and many other advantages. “It also removes tanning and brings a stunning glow to skin. In this form of yoga toning happens first and then follows weight loss, thus a visible change is seen pretty fast,” claims Rama Devi, the proprietor. “We have four professional trainers and they are thorough subject experts,” she further adds. It is suitable for everyone regardless of age and gender. Only the expecting mothers, heart patients and people who have undergone major surgeries recently, aren’t advisable to practice it. There are separate dressing rooms, lockers and shower cubicles for men and women.

FOR A

R
ecent heavy rains left me drenched, hungry and exhausted. Just around the same time, while passing through the second lane of Dwaraka Nagar, a big wooden finish board displaying a catchy name ‘Soup Stop’ grabbed my attention. The name titillated me, but a second thought popped up -'why to get in, just to have soup'? Perhaps this would be the reaction of most of us. I suggest ignore the doubting Thomas and be a sport and enter. I assure that you won’t regret, a lavish spread of scrumptious food awaits you, transcending the soup’s limit. As I opened the door, I found the ambience quite enticing. It is softly yet well-lit and designed aesthetically using subtle colours creating a soothing impact. The menu is a huge spread, with starters, appetizers, sizzlers and plethora of drinks which include mocktails, shakes, cold coffees, smoothies and interesting shots. In soups, you must try Burnt Garlic, Paneer Peppercorn, Exotic Vegetable, Shrimp, Thai Prawn Coconut, Egg Drop and South Indian Chicken soup. Its Mutton soups and Paya soup are most moving. Add it up with a grand platter of salads and the options are Russian, Khimchi, Coleslaw and many more. As starter Paneer Reshmi Kebab, Chilli Honey Babycorn and Veg Spring Rolls are quite tasty. Similarly the Chicken Cheese and Chicken Club Sandwiches are quite filling and thus pretty popular too. Sizzlers lovers, you would love the sea food sizzler. Panipuris, which are served from 5-7pm are really exclusive and the varieties are chocolate, paneer corn, chicken cheese corn panipuri etc. The staff is very attentive to the needs, food is well presented within decent order time. Various avours of ice cream, especially the fried ice creams can complete your meal. Soon it is going to add more items in spring rolls, salads, sandwiches, soups, sizzlers and introducing biryanis too.

He cried when you bruised your knees as you fell down during your first walk and he also celebrated the day when you said ‘papa’ first time. A part of him has been growing - from the time you are born to the moment you walked to work with him as his partner. This man has been your nurturer, friend, mentor and protector. If God can’t be everywhere that’s why he has created mother, similarly as Guardian Angel can’t be seen in real life, that is why he comes as Father. It’s time to say thanks, sorry, ‘I love you’ or just cheers to your dad! Join us in celebrating Fatherhood.

MAGNETIC MIRPURIS
“
He is my go-to man, the first on my favourite list,” declares the son with a spark in his eyes as they meet his dad’s and the proud father opens up, “My son is my most prized possession.” It is love which rules them and it is love which makes them one-of-their kind, Prem Mirpuri, proprietor, Eastern Art Museum and Ameet Mirpuri, interior designer and proprietor, Design Studio.
The Bond Father: Ameet being the first born, is very special to me and my wife Komal. As he was born after four years of our wedding, the wait made it all the more valuable. Long wait makes things precious, isn’t it? Son: He is not a strict father. We share the same wave length. I can’t think of doing anything without asking him. He is my number one man!
red | june 2016 | 50
Team Work & Decision Making Father: We used to work together in interiors business until a few years back. Many times it happened that we would sit with clients separately, yet we both would have proposed the same idea, leaving the clients surprised at the similarities of thought. Son: I am into interiors and he takes care of Eastern Art Museum, so we take our individual decisions. When it is about something related to both the businesses, decision is taken together.
My mom’s consent is too included as she is also involved in the business. Clash of Ideas Father: We do have clashes of opinion, but within five minutes we say sorry to each other and get going. I prefer to play safe, whereas Ameet is more of a risk taker. However, there is no blame game. In case anything falls flat; we parents are there as anchors. Son: The person, who is wrong, apologises. No ego issues.
Strength/Weakness? Father: Having a good wife is my strength. With Komal around there is no question of weakness. Son: I am more decisive and don’t like to sit too long on a matter. Whereas he likes to take time and decide and it balances. My forte is out-of-the-box creations. Mutual Suggestions Father: I never let my years of experience come in the way of accepting the new. Lessons Learnt Father: He is a fitness freak. I am trying to adopt it someway. He is quick in decision-making, it helps us to move faster. Son: He is excellent in nurturing ties and stays connected to his family which is spread over the globe. Everybody loves him. I can’t match him in this regard. He is a very positive person. Reactions to Crisis Father: I believe whatever happens, happens for good and always hope that something better will come up. So I don’t panic. Son: We are calm and composed lot. There were some bad patches, but we sailed through as we stand together. Special Moments Father: Today, I am recognized as Ameet’s dad, there is nothing more rewarding than this. Son: He is always around. We are very connected with each other and every moment has been special. In Brief FATHER On Perfect Dad Nobody is perfect, nor can I be. I just tried to give the best to my children whatever was within my means. On Present Generation Technology has taken over family values. People are like running a race,
losing the actual values. However, to a great extent we have managed to retain it in our family, by having breakfast and lunch together at home and that time is the ‘no gadget zone.’ Lessons of Parenting Though my dad was not the typically strict kind, we were not as friendly with him as our kids are with us. He taught me the lessons of life in a very simple way. He used to say when you are thirsty drink, but ensure the glass is clean, likewise never jump into anything without looking at its long term effect. Rating as Father 6 or 7 out of 10 Fatherly Advice Never look back. Life is full of hopes. SON To Unwind Together... We go out and have a drink together. He is the one with whom I had my first drink and went to pub for the first time. To Impress Him I just have to ask him, things will be done. My presence is enough to make him happy. Craziest Thing You Have Done Together... We got drunk together on his 60th
birthday, he was singing karaoke (he is a good singer); and I was dancing with his old girlfriend. Habit You Want Him To Cultivate... He should get little more health conscious. One Thing You’ll Avoid As a Parent… None! Mom and dad are always openly affectionate about us and loving towards each other. It has left very positive impression on me and my sister Aarti. By emulating him, I feel I will be a cooler dad. Those Words That Were Never Said We very openly tell ‘I love you’ to each other and greet with hug. So there is nothing left unsaid. Your Wish For Him Send him for more holidays and it includes more trips to the US where his world, i.e. his granddaughter Amaira stays.

TITANS WHO NEVER CLASH
T
he name Rana seems to be the ice breaker. Mention it and the otherwise reticent Mr. Raja Uppalapati, a business associate for Titan Company Ltd., is all words and passion. His son Rana, who is also part of the business, has recently completed an 800 km-skating expedition to spread awareness and raise funds for underprivileged cancer patients. "This keenness to do something beyond seems to run the family. I myself travelled to all the seven continents. In addition, offering service to society, especially in the areas where he feels not enough is done, has been his intent," says the proud father. The father and son appear to be two ends of same thought - "Give me adventure and I’ll ride it."
The Bond Father: It is inexplicable. We understand instinctively each other’s moods and needs. Son: ‘Understanding’ without which other emotions are not possible. "Constructive", allowing freedom to learn and grow. There is no explicitness or superficial expression. It is implicit and meaningfully real. Team Work Father: He builds wonderful promotional activities. Maintaining

good ties with the staff, customers and the company - is his forte. The new concepts he introduced won great applause. I am an introvert and he is the face of the business. Son: We have unspoken, yet clearly defined roles, independently we work upon towards a common goal. Strength & Weakness Father: Our strength is we give each other freedom to take decisions. At the risk of being called unambitious, neither of us goes after money.
Son: To perfect is a strength. The necessity to perfect even when there is little time is a weakness. Clash of Ideas Father: No ado. As Rana puts it- we complement each other. I take up tasks which I can handle and he does his part and the job is done. Son: There is nothing to sort out. Whoever has the better reasoning/ expertise takes the lead.
Exchange of Ideas Father: Through uninterrupted communication, thanks to technology. Son: It happens sub-consciously, but when there is a problem to be resolved, we like to be on the same page and close it immediately. Carrying Work Home Father: We try not to. Son: Positives, yes. Negatives, no Fond Memories Father: He was barely 4 years old. He was asked whether he liked our car or that of a friend. He said, “Both are nice.” He never hurts anyone by deed or word. He was selected as a junior ambassador to an international children’s conference in Japan, when he was 10 years old. The interviewer asked him, “How will you break the language barrier?” Pat he replied, “I shall use the sign language.” Son: Of course, taking lessons from him. Be it him teaching me grammar or accompanying me to the skating rink or pushing me to achieve more without overdoing it or supporting me when the odds were against me. Response to Situations Father: We don’t press the panic button so easily. Son: Not too dissimilar. We’d like to find the solution instead of dwelling in the problem. As far as possible, we’d
resolve it ourselves, else will share and take support from each other. On Family Business Father: The initiation began very early. I used to take Rana to meets and promotional activities. He imbibed the ethics of the Tatas. Son: Support structure is advantageous. Nothing disadvantageous other than having to be more responsible as any action affects everyone. Expectations Father: I feel he is cut out for better and bigger things. There is a tremendous potential in him. Son: There is no expectation. If we go about our lives in the best way we can, want to and are able to; I am sure we will be happy for each other. IN BRIEF FATHER Out of the Box Never pushed him into a rat race, I encouraged him to pursue extracurricular activities. Lessons Learnt I learnt patience from him. Moments of Pride When he represented India on an international forum. We Time Every day we try to have at least one meal together. Regret I feel may have focused little less on his academics. As a Father I am a better father than he is because I find his son is more comfortable with me. In Your Shoes He has already replaced me. SON To Unwind Together... There is intent as such, but the conversations that happen while driving inter-city are nice. To Impress Him We were taught not to do anything for recognition or appreciation. Working reasonably enough, keeping peace and being content is gratifying.
Lessons Learnt To take everything to a logical completion; to have right aspiration and not be over-ambitious. And have financial discipline. The Craziest Thing Done Together The craziest times would be when he would get me out of boarding school to go off on short trips. Habit You Want Him to Give Up or Cultivate He's good the way he is. Each of us has to adapt to people and not expect them to change for us. On Previous Generation Appreciate their dedication to work and the care for home. On Parenting Spend time with kids. Encourage them to learn all round and not just one aspect. Rating Of course, one is always a father’s best son/daughter no matter what. There have been some tough times and there may be more, but it is good to be accepted. Being perfect is a stereotype set by the society and not meant to exist within the family. One Thing You Never Told Him I wish there would never be such a thing that has been left unsaid that ought to be said. We communicate. red | june 2016 | 53
RATHODS
“
Do something that will earn you name or earn such a name that just by referring to which the work gets done (loosely translated from Hindi)” - that is what my father has done,” says Amit Rathod, the elder son. “He is a gem of a person, a self-made man. I wish to be his prototype,” confesses Sumit Rathod, the younger son. “When I started the business 30 years ago, it wasn’t easy. But along with my sons, I have reached here,” declares the proud father Bastimal Rathod. This is an interesting story of a businessman who started his humble journey in 1977, after migrating to the city from Rajasthan. Today with his sons, he has built an empire of stainless steel and turned it into the number one in Andhra Pradesh. Here are the men behind Rathod Sons, Rathod Steel Palace and Rathod Branch.

The Bonding Bastimal: It is friendly, especially after they have grown up. I never say no to them. My sons and daughter are my real treasure. Amit- We share a bond which is neither too strict nor too friendly. At home he is lenient, but at work he is a task master. Sumit: Being the younger one, I have always been the pampered son. He has ensured that we get the best of everything. Team Work: Bastimal: I focus primarily on accounts and finance. I mostly take charge of Rathod Sons, located in Allipuram. Amit- Basically a business is divided into three segments, finance, purchase and sales. I take care of purchase. Sumit: I joined the business five years back. I take care of the sales division. I also look after the branch in Saraswati Park. Decision Making Bastimal: On minor issues, we take individual decisions. For the major ones, we discuss and include opinions of my daughters-in-law and wife too. Strength Bastimal: To handle a huge array of products and maintain the variety, is my strength. Amit: Among all the traders in this region, my negotiation power is best. Sumit: I keep myself abreast with latest trends. I am a good seller and excellent at convincing customers, especially in bulk sale. Leassons Learnt Bastimal: From my sons I have learnt how to expand the business. We had started with stainless steel utensils, gradually entered hotel kitchen equipment, now we are into products in home appliance, gifting, silverware gifting etc. We have penetrated Orissa market. Amit: May be with time a little modernization has come, but the basic training is by him. His dedication is matchless. He stuck
to one business despite many adversities. Sumit: I learnt stability and how to be at customer service 24X7. Reactions to Crisis Bastimal: Instead of panicking I just look forward to good tidings. I never think bad of people, even if they wrong me. Amit: I go little jittery if things don’t go well, but I get calm down very soon. Sumit: I stay calm, instead of going wild. I try to look for solution. In Brief FATHER: Lessons on Parenting My father taught me never to do anything wrong or cheat anyone. I learnt honesty from him and pass it on to my children. Fatherly Advice In 10 years I like to see both my sons as top traders in our business at national level. This will happen only when they continue to be together forever. Strength lies in unity. I also wish them to be beside me, one on the right and the other on the left.
A Wish They are with me and respect me. I just utter a word, things get done immediately. However, I have done my duty. Now it’s their duty to take care of me like their kid. SONS To Impress Him Amit: When I get extra monetary benefit on the deal of our final purchase order, he is a happy man. Sumit: I impress him with sales number. A Habit You Want Him To Give / Pick up Amit: He should give up smoking. Sumit: I want him to go for walk or take up any form of exercise. Avoid as Father Amit: I am not blaming him, but as he required my support, he asked me to join the business when I was too young. I couldn’t pursue higher studies. I being a father of two won’t let my kids enter the business that early. I would like to educate them. Sumit: Smoking! Ultimate Wish For Him Amit: Though he never expressed it openly, he wants construct a temple. I will fulfill it. Sumit: In our Jain community we have a system where we take our fellow people on sang (pilgrimage), depending on one’s capacity. However, it is not just one’s financial ability; the permission should be given by the Jain Samaj. Our father wants to do so. We hope to fulfill his dream soon.

My dad is my biggest strength,” says Vineet Gothi, the young entrepreneur-turned-actor who has recently debuted in T’wood with Pidugu. “He is my pride in the society, pal at home and partner at work,” adds the cool dad, Ashok Gothi, MD, Gothi Infrastructure Pvt Ltd.
The Bond Father: We are always like best of friends. He joined the business out of his own will. He is simultaneously managing his film career. At work we are like complementing partners. Son: It’s a superb bond. After I joined him in the business, we understand each other better than earlier. I have high respect for him and my mom, Meena Gothi and never do I misuse the freedom they have given me.

Team Work Father: We are great team players. I look after the documentation, legalities and accounts, as I am good at them and my experience comes handy. He is great in execution and superb in designing.
Strength/Weakness Father: Strength I can’t really specify. Weakness- I trust people very easily especially in money matters and I give away without any hesitation. Often I incur loss, unlike him. He is very shrewd and systematic.
Son: I studied MBA from GITAM and entered business. I like meeting people, going to places and I take care of expansion, marketing as well as sales.
Son: I am very passionate about my work and don’t mind working late nights until I perfected the given task. I am into detailed planning and very organised. I can’t stand if things are not in order, this at times works against me.
admit, with his taking over there is a perceptible increase in our turnover and profitability. Son: I feel he should delegate responsibility to the rest of the people as we are in an expansion mode. Response to Crisis and Joy Father: I take any adversity seriously and get panicked. Any small success means a lot to me and I cherish it. Son: At strike of adversity, I get worked up, may be because of my age. But usually I don’t show and dad feels I am cool about it. For me success is like a chain and instead of celebrating on one link, I look for the next.
The Decision Maker? Clash of ideas? Father: Decision making happens in unison. There are clashes too at times. We fight for 10-15 minutes and come out with an even better idea. Son: We ensure that we have lunch together and decisions are often taken on the dining table by reaching consensus after delving on pros and cons. Mutual Suggestions Father: I do take his suggestions. He has a vast knowledge of what is in, the trends in interiors, importance of ventilations and popular demands etc. We can’t succeed without taking these factors in account. Son: Pertaining to business, I seek his advice. Regarding films we share ideas but decisions are mine as he is not from this field. Lessons Learnt Father: His planning is meticulous. He records everything systematically. Son: My age is same as his years of experience. It is only natural I picked up nuances of business from him. I like the way he calculates things. Expectation Father: Whatever he is doing, is more than enough. Hence no expectations! I must
Fond Memories Father: He was a very naughty child, however, was very steadfast in his aspiration to do films. When Pidugu happened, my joy knew no bounds, as I never imagined that he could pull it off without any filmy background. Son: I am the first in our community in city to get into movies. Initially, it was a no from him too. It was very emotional moment when he gave permission.
FATHER On His role I am lucky to have a lovely son, Vineet and daughter Sweatha. On Present Generation This generation is damn good; they know how to live life. Given a chance, I would love to be born in this generation. Lessons On Parenting My upbringing was very different and I can’t apply those methods to my kids. Time has changed. My father was very authoritative and out of sheer fear I used to keep a safe distance from him. I feel I am a better father. Rating I give 7 out of 10 for myself. Ultimate Dream I like to see him as a superstar and top builder too.
SON To Unwind Together... We both like music, suddenly we go for long drives or movies. To Impress Him He is not easily impressed. I can act in front of camera, but not in front of him; he can easily spot my stunts. However, small things make him happy. The Craziest Things Done Together.. At home both of us are like kids. We are only scared of mom. Habit You Want Him to Quit or Pick Up To give up paan and pick up reading. One Thing You’ll Avoid As A Father… I will just emulate my father and he has been perfect dad. Things Not Yet Expressed To Him. Thank him for his unconditional love and having faith in me. Dream for him He always wished for a grand big house, hopefully very soon I will fulfil it. red | june 2016 | 59

SIMPLE

HIGH THINKING
Mutual Appraisal Father: My son has not only inherited my father’s name but also his nature, especially his generosity. Known for his benevolence my father was referred to as God on earth. Son: Remember the lead role played by Rajendra Prasad in ‘Aa Naluguru’? My father is the mirror image of it. Yes, he lives by the high moral standards he set for himself. The Bonding Father: We enjoy a good rapport. red | june 2016 | 60
he father, Mr.Mantena Venkata Raju a highly principled, simple, family-loving and socially conscious teacher leads a peaceful retired life. He is actively involved in welfare activities and believes in the TDP ideology.
The son, Mr. M.M.N.Parasu Rama Raju, Managing Partner, Swathi Associates, is a successful entrepreneur. He is dynamic, ambitious, hard working and remains unassuming despite his notable accomplishments. He has been an active leader in the BJP. However, one common trait that is found in the duo is both of them are peoplecentric. If father serves people through welfare activities, the son chose politics as medium to help the needy.
Ours is a family of teachers and we lived a very peaceful and risk-free life. I wanted Murali (his name at home) to follow suit. I, in no uncertain terms, told him that neither would I buy nor pull any strings to get him a seat in college. He studied well and worked for a while before floating his own company. Son: It has always been a relationship maintained from a respectable distance. It has been always from my mother, I would demand things. I wanted to go for automobile
engineering and his instant response was, “Go ahead, if you can earn a seat on your own.” Taking favours and pulling strings from others are not for him. We Time Father: Though I was transferred thrice, the places of work were close to Bheemavaram. My wife Saraswati too worked as a teacher. Hence our two children never lacked any attention. Moreover, we enjoy the support of a huge and closely knit family.
Son: Keeping up his promise to his dying father that he would take care of the family (five brothers and three sisters), my father maintains beautiful relations. Even today, he hosts the mandatory annual family get-together. Expectations Father: Both my wife and I are retired from service and continue to live in Bheemavaram. Though Murali urges us to stay with him, I feel we should fend for ourselves as long as God gives us energy and health. Son: He doesn’t allow me to buy even his train ticket. I, with a large fleet of buses at my disposal, have to watch him go to the station and book his ticket. He told me in the very beginning of my career, “I don’t expect a rupee from you nor do I give you one. Whatever I give, will be only to your children.” He has opened accounts in my children’s name and deposits some amount from his pension every month. Difference of Opinion This is inevitable as we belong to two different generations. We also differ in our political ideologies - while I am with TDP, he prefers BJP. But these differences are restricted only to the verbal debates and don’t percolate into our lives. Son: He is wary of business whereas I took to it like fish to water though I did not have any background. I want to provide
livelihood for at least 100 people. I tried to involve him in business after his retirement, and floated Swathi travels. But he was quite ill at ease with it. Strength/Weakness Father: His greatest strength is his friends. Weakness- reposing blind faith in people and doesn’t think of tomorrow. I wonder if these qualities are welcome in this cutthroat world. Son: His honesty and candour are his strength. Weakness? None at all. The Decision Maker Father: He is a self-made man. Son: He is the boss, but allows me space. Tips Father: I am always there if he wants some advice. Son: He doesn’t take my advice because in his view I am still a child. Unforgettable Incident Father: We admitted him to a convent. Sulking over it, he went away to his grandparent’s house. We had to send him back to the board school. Later he said that he didn’t like wearing uniform and shoes. He has been always against frills. Son: Serving as the president and secretary of United Teachers Federation (UTF), he used to make frequent trips to Eluru, which was the administrative headquarters, to get the issues of teachers settled. One particular year he was going to Sabarimalai during the time of UTF elections. We were elated that the following two years he would be free and we would have him all for ourselves. But shattering all our hopes, he got elected in absentia.
SON Corrective Measures Never did he raise his hand on me. When I was a child, he used to take me out, buy me some goodies and coolly explain to me where I went wrong. and now... Recently he asked me to give my report card on my business. I presented all my assets. Pat came the question ‘What about liabilities?’
FATHER On His Role I gave him all that is expected of a father. Moments of elation He was feted in Goa for topping in the cement business in all the southern states. Whenever someone comes and tells me, “We are in this position, thanks to your son’s help.” For example, film star Sunil refers to him as his godfather. On Present Generation This generation can take risks, which we could never afford. The Best Part Of Parenting Giving him freedom to follow his heart either in his profession or his marriage. Rating. As a son I give him more than 100 % . It is for him to rate me.
To impress him My presence is enough to impress him. One trait you want him to change. Anger Previous generation. I have no issues with it. My parents gave me the best. Dream for him I want to take him abroad. He wants to see me lead a liability-free life and I shall soon fulfill his dream.

D
istance means nothing when someone means everything- seems to be true with Singam family. Mr.SingamSetty Venkateswara Rao, Managing Director, Singam Suzuki, as the first generation entrepreneur, thought he would not be able to give quality time to his boys as he was passionately involved in building his business and kept Sandeep & Komaldeep in hostels to pursue education, right from the UKG. They returned home only three years ago, after obtaining MBA degrees from UK and are now the Directors of the company. The obvious bonding among the three proves that the years melted away without causing as much as a crack in their ties.
Bonding Father: Hailing from a small place Vundavalli (which recently shot into fame) I wanted my boys to get best education. Moreover, I was busy building my business in transport field, shifting from one place to the other and knew for certain that I couldn’t give them quality time. Sons: The only time we used to miss home was when we fell sick. Otherwise, we don’t think that the miles of distance ever affected our ties. It made us self-relaiant. red | june 2016 | 64
ROARING SINGAMS
Team work Father: Many lucrative job offers came their way, but they are back in India to be with me. By that time, I have expanded my business, with my fingers in many pies like transport and tollgate. I had no knowledge of automobile business. Singham Suzuki is their own enterprise, with me assuming a supervisory and advisory role and lending some financial support. I have not involved them in my businesses which are not sophisticated like this one. We are
going ahead with the clear understanding that they will diversify further independently. Son: Our father has given us solid base to launch our dreams and his experience and advice are absolutely indispensable. We go about our business, arriving at decisions after discussions. There are situations when we include our mother too in decision-making. It is a perfect team work.
Lessons learnt Father: I have been a businessman who always thought that I should go further in my business and develop it to the optimum. But it is my sons who taught me that developing business itself is not enough and we should also strive for social recognition.
In Brief FATHER Perfect dad and boss We are friends. I don’t try to impose myself or my decisions on them. I only suggest and withdraw. We time Sunday. All of us go to a movie, dine outside and go for a drive.
Sons: Honesty and hardwork. Memorable moments Father: I never expected that they would go to UK for studies and more importantly, return home to set up business. Sandeep: The most surprising of them of all is my engagement, which my father sprang on me with no notice at all. The proposal came on Sunday and the engagement took place on Wednesday. Luckily, I found her to be my dream girl. Komaldeep: One too many to be listed. Ideas & ideals Father: One thing I tell them, in no uncertain terms, is that come what may, they should be together. I strongly believe in the concept united we stand. Sons: We brothers complement each other with me a bit more outgoing and being a go getter and Komaldeep a little reserved. While I am ambitious and strive to expand my business and horizons, he likes to take things easy. Response Father: Since I very steadily worked my way up in business there are no steep ups or lows. Moreover, I am very stoic. Perhaps, that is because we are financially sound. Sons: Initially we used to get perturbed but not anymore. On business Father: Any business is tension-ridden and fraught with problems. Obviously, a businessman is always in a state of stress, unlike the salaried people. One has to think of various angles besides money matters like if the staff is on the job or not. To keep our flock together itself is a task, with the poaching going all around. Even if one person is missing on the job, the work gets stuck.
Carry work home We try not to. On present generation I feel if the present youth is going astray, it is largely because the parents don’t guide them properly. On Parenting Sons: A humongous pressure. Before we think of ourselves, we have to worry about the welfare of families of more than 70 employees. Our business flourishes only if they are kept happy and contented. Advantage: The huge recognition and ample opportunities to grow in society. For example, red magazine would not have sought our interview, had we not been in this trade. Expectations Father: They have given me more than I ever expected and asked for. Son: We shall only strive to further build on the faith he reposes in us.
My father was an agriculturist and was casual about our education and vocation. I can’t blame him because that was how the things were at that time. Unwinding We start with window shopping and end up with loaded bags. Rating How can I do that? I think I have played my role. SONS Decision maker Our mother Decisions Only on consensus Being away from home and in hostels It is a great learning experience Clashes We have open discussions through which we realize our individual mistakes and come to fruitful conclusions. To impress him We have to impress outsiders. We are his mirror images and so question of impressing him doesn’t arise. One thing we want him to give up Anger and excitement On previous generation They were conservative and not experimental, but we adore their discipline and family ties. One thing you want to avoid which your father did Send the children to hostel

he father is like a placid lake - calm and quiet and least ambitious, never expecting anything more than what life offers him. The son is a bubbling stream dynamic, ambitious and all out to take life by the horns. Mr.Gunturi Srinivasa Raju, Chairman, Kshethraa Properties and his father Mr.Appalaraju, appear like two ends of the spectrum. Yet one can clearly see a thread of love and understanding that binds not only the duo but also the entire family.
Mutual Appraisal Father: For us our son is nothing short of the God’s gift. Contrary to the general tradition of fathers commanding the sons to follow certain path, I always gave him total freedom to follow his inclinations. I never questioned him on any decision he has taken. Son: I was the most pampered and indulged child. Never did I hear a ‘no’ from either of my parents –in the matter of my education or career or even marriage. If I am able to go about my work unperturbed and undisturbed, it is because of the stable and happy family backing I enjoy.

even know what it is all about. At times I wish he is more knowledgeable in these things so that I could seek his advice. There is a thrill in deliberating over the issues with your own people. Isn’t it? I miss that.
and weakness too. You may not believe this but he would wonder why the government was paying such huge salaries for the job he and his colleagues were doing and if that would really commensurate the work they were doing.
Lessons Learnt Father: NA
Unforgettable Incident Father: During the 1987 floods in West Godavari, Srinivas was stranded at a relative’s house. I thought we lost him. Those were the nightmarish moments.
Son: Honesty, integrity and hard work are the lessons he imparted to me. However, I also learnt from him is that one should not over pamper the children, as he did. I give my daughters enough freedom but never over indulge them.
Different Paths Father: The 9.00 am to 5.00 pm routine and working under some other’s dictates never appealed to my son. He grew up watching me going through the same regimen day in and day out. It was fine with me as I was not a very outgoing person. That certainly could not be the life for an exuberant boy like Srinivas, who wants to live his life on his terms.
IN BRIEF FATHER On His Role Non-interfering Moments of Elation Every time he accomplished a task. On Present Generation They are better equipped
Son: My father worked for APSEB. He retired with great dignity after a blemish-less career. Though I was never too keen on academics, I obtained a B. Com degree. I became the first entrepreneur in our family. There was never a word of resistance from my father and he silently handed down whatever investment I needed. Expectations Father: My son is a self-made man and except for a little investment, he didn’t take anything from me. Son: He has been a perennial giver. He is non-demanding and undemonstrative and always counts his blessings. I have seen a lot of ups and downs in my business, but he never questioned me, leave alone chiding. He is blissfully ignorant of all the worldly pursuits. For example, I am a realtor, but my father doesn’t
Son: When I was in 6th standard, he met with a serious accident. Thinking that he would not survive it, he took me into his arms and made me promise that I would look after the family. That drove me to tears. By God’s grace, he recovered and recouped.
Rating My son scores 10/10 SON Corrective Measures None. I wish my father had taken some so that I could have studied better.
We Time Father: As I am retired, my time is divided between my son and daughter. Son: I visit my parents at least thrice a week and am there whenever they need me. Strength/Weakness Father: My son’s strength is his determination. I see no weakness.
To Impress Him I need not do anything out of the way. One Trait You Want Him To Change. I wish he had been little more assertive Previous Generation. Each generation has its plus and minus points Dream for Him I want to keep him in comfort

t isn’t just out of the blue that someone is given the title of a ‘People’s Princess’. She’s also known for her good-work, fashion analytical self and unmatched business sense. Meet Dyana Shiffaire, of the Palestine Persian Royal blood who has inherited Shiffaire Enterprise as proprietorship, owner, CEO and Chairpersion. You started work at 16 what was the experience like? Descending from a Royal Monarchy, I was introduced to more self learning. After my graduation in World Finance I was handling Shiffaire Enterprise and cracking financial deals between MNCs and Businessmen. Then fashion happened to balance my responsibility as the CEO.. From a very young age I have been working on high fashion shoots and am being invited as judge/guest to Fashion shows.

Let’s talk about you as a fashion analyst... Pursuing my degree in Fashion Designing, specialising in AvantGarde design from Milan and an analyst course from London, and being a qualified hair science and stylist from L'oreal Professional, gave me the lead to be the a analyst in India by FDCI. I also got the opportunity to guide designers at various fashion shows like Gladrags, Lakmé Fashion week, Kingfisher Ultra International Fashion week.
Tell us more about the kind of work you do now I come in as a supporting partner for Fashion Weeks, Beauty Pageants and model hunts around the world. I am launching India's 1st Avantgarde Fashion Magazine called "Dyana's Desire" which will showcase the work of Designers in their Avantgarde creativity with India's 1st Avantgarde Fashion week in Dec2016.
How did the title ‘People’s princess’ happen? If I can be of any assistance to people in any way possible, I make myself available. Their smiles when they say “thank you” are the wealth I've earned. People have given me a home in their hearts and this title, for which I'm very thankful. Tell us more about yourself… I might come across as a celebrity, but actually I am a simple girl who loves to have street food, shop from local markets, meet new people and explore new cities
What is that one thing that worked for you? I take every project as a challenge – be it finance or fashion. I have been bestowed with love and respect from people. Hailing from the Royal Family adds to the finesse and gives me good contacts.
You’re also known for the good work you do... tell us more Compassion is a God’s gift. Since 10 years I have been helping orphanages, old age homes, and those who deserve love and care. It's not only collection of funds but spending time with them. For me to give is easy and if I can why not?
If you were to choose between success and riches... I choose success, because I want to reach my goals through toil and blessings. One thing you’d like to change about yourself? Well! I would not want to change myself in any way for this is how God has made me. Of course, I try to improve myself in every possible way. If you are born again, who would you want to come back as? I want to be born as Princess Diana or Maharani Gayatridevi who have always been my idols and icons.
Which have been your most challenging times? Every day is a new challenge for me to live up to my clients expectations What was the turning point in your life? The Turning point in my life was The city of Nizams. The city has not only spotted my potential as a Fashion analyst but also gave me respect. For it is Hyderabad which has made Dyana Shiifaire a brand name and made it shine. This is my second home.
Your aspirations It is my dream to contribute as much as I can to the world and live up to the name -Beauty with a Purpose. I urge all the successful people in the world to reach out to the needy.
Before you sign off… I want to say that you can't ask rain for more rain.. sun for less sun shine. We have to live under circumstances given to us. I appeal to the people to work hard, improve their lifestyle and strive to be fabulous human beings.
and their traditions and cuisine. It is like a therapy for me. What do you think of the fashion scene in the city? Every city has its own version of fashion, distinctive but in harmony with each other. What surprises me is that Indian cities are so modern despite the fact they are steeped in tradition. What is your greatest achievement? I consider touching innumerable lives and earning their love and trust as my greatest achievements.

METHOD: Break the chocolate into pieces and place in a heatproof bowl. Then assemble a bain-marie – do this by pouring a little water into a saucepan and placing the bowl over the water. Over a gentle heat, set the pan to warm the water until the chocolate melts. Take off the heat and leave to cool a little. Meanwhile, place the butter and half the sugar into another bowl. Using an electric hand whisk, beat until the mixture is really light and creamy, then beat in the cocoa powder. Separate the eggs yolks and leaving the whites aside put the yolks in a third bowl. Tip in the remaining sugar, then beat together until pale and creamy. In a fourth bowl, whip the cream until thickened with soft peaks. Pour the melted chocolate into the butter mixture, and carefully stir until it is well combined. Gently fold in the egg mixture. When this is amalgamated, stir in the whipped cream. overhang. Spoon the mixture into a large piping bag with a large nozzle attached. Pipe a layer over the bottom of the tin, then cover this with a layer of After Eights (cut some in half to ensure they fit). Pipe over another layer of chocolate cream, followed by a layer of After Eights. Continue until you have 4 layers of chocolate mints and the tin is full, finishing with a chocolate cream layer. Fold over the cling film, then chill overnight or up to 2 days. Just before serving, place the marquise in the freezer for 10 mins to make it easier to slice. Place the tin, bottom side up, on a serving plate, slide off the tin, then peel away the cling film. If you have a blowtorch, quickly run the ame over the surface of the marquise to give it a glossy sheen. Alternatively, dip a palette knife in boiling water and smooth the surface that way. Use a serrated knife dipped in boiling water to cut the marquise into slices. Place on plate and garnish with a caramel nest.
METHOD: Combine the fresh cream, liquid glucose, chopped rose petals and gulkand and pour the mix into sorbetiere to churn. Once the gelato is adequately churned (about 15-20 min), place in a deep freezer to set. Scoop and place in ramekin. Garnish with caramel Stick

It is a simple love saga which might have been told many times in the past. But what makes it special is Trivikram’s way of narration, weave with lovely emotions. It has love, comedy and emotions. And all these impressed the audience big time.
Congratulations for massive success of A..Aa. How did this movie happen? After Heart Attack, I was supposed to work with Trivikram. Unfortunately, somehow it didn’t work out the way we expected. Finally, things fell into place. I think I just had to do this film at the right moment and waited for it to happen. After Gundejaari Gallanthayyinde, when I was shooting for Heart Attack in Spain, I got a call. I was absolutely thrilled. However, the project got shelved suddenly. A year later, it got revived again and I got hopeful.
What kind of preparation did you do for your role in A..Aa? As you have seen, I played the character of a chef who has an emotional family baggage. Just to get the right emotions, I attended a lot of workshops. I hope everyone liked my role in the film.
Many felt Samantha has a dominating character in A..Aa. Your take? I don’t feel so, there is nothing like that. The lead pair in all love stories has equal roles and weightage. In fact, there are many other characters who are pretty dominating in the movie as well.
Can we call Trivikram a special director for you? Yes he is. I found another Teja and Rajamouli in Trivikram. He took care of every bit, from my body language, diction to hair-do. The way I got inspired from him and learned so many facets of life is just amazing. He is like a walking encyclopedia.
just done exactly what was told by the director. It is his film. In a way, I can say Trivikram is the hero of this movie. He took care of everything. It was like a journey with him that I will cherish forever. I have learnt a lot of things during this film and my performance in A..Aa is the best in my entire career.
We heard Pawan Kalyan visited the sets of A.. Aa! How did you feel about it? Yes he did. It was a surprise visit and I was not aware of it. Thus, when I saw him, I was zapped and didn't know what was going on for some time. To add to my nervousness, we were shooting a song and had to dance in front of him, it made me even more tensed. Even on the eve of A..Aa release, he sent me best wishes with a box of mangoes that were produced at his farm. I shared it on my social media. Generally, he doesn't attend the movie functions but he graced the events of Ishq and A..Aa for me.
Working with Samantha... We were paired together for the first time in the movie. Sam is a brilliant actress and also a very close buddy of mine. Somehow during the initial stages of the shoot, it was very difficult for us to get romantic. With strict instruction from the director, we could pull it off. However, our chemistry has turned out quite well and it is appreciated too.

Beyond films, what interests you? Earlier, I used to play a lot of cricket,
Nithya Menen, can you call her your lucky charm? (Ha.ha.ha) I guess, you can say so! For reasons unknown! But there is something as our pairing worked well with the audience and I bagged my first big hit after a long wait. So, there is nothing wrong in calling her my l ucky charm.
Your movie Heart Attack also got you fame, what are the other major changes it brought in you? My character, as you have seen, was a very stylish one and a lot of detailing had gone into it. It's my most stylish avatar ever. I had to grow long hair and I enjoyed doing it. I have never had a ponytail in my life and for the first time I sported the look.
Your movie Courier Boy Kalyan, has a very interesting name, whose idea was it? It was completely my idea to have that name, as everyone knows that I am a diehard fan of Pawan Kalyan.
Changes post-celebrityhood? Being a movie buff, as I just mention I used to watch every damn movie on the very first day. Now with celebrityhood, I can’t watch movies in public places. I used to eat out with friends without being disturbed.
but presently due to time constraint, I had to restrict my passion for cricket. Whenever I get little free time, I love to hang out with friends at coffee shops in the city. I am a movie buff and watch a lot of films, whether they are hits or ops.
When single Nithiin is going to mingle? My family members have been asking me to get married for quite some time. I have been postponing the date. You can’t imagine the kind of pressure I am under now to get hitched. Whenever my mom attends a wedding, immediately she reminds me about my marriage. Not just this. The moment she watches a wedding scene in a movie she immediately pauses the scene and asks me "When will you get married? So, as I say, it will be ‘soon’. (winks)
The greatest learning in the industry… In the last 14 years, I have learnt many things. No matter how much hard work you put in, you need luck to succeed and get a hit, especially in Tollywood. There is also one more thing which I have learnt hard way. As long as you give hit films, everyone is with you. The moment you land on a lean patch, everybody disappears. No hard feelings. I am not becoming critical, but only three or four people stuck with me even when my career was down with ops. It taught me a big lesson in life- whom to trust and whom not to. I am also more clear about what kind of films to do and what to avoid.
I can't do it now. However, being hero compensates all that I lost. I must confess one more thing- I was never interested in studies, I am happy that I dropped out of the college in my first year after I got into acting.

Being a Punjabi girl do you find it difficult to act in a Telugu movie? Yes, it is difficult. But then again, no profession comes without challenges. If one has to grow professionally, then one must be willing to go through some tough times.
How did you land in Tollywood? For the movie Where is Vidya Balan?, the search was on for a new face. For me, Tollywood happened when somebody saw my pictures on Facebook and felt I suited the character in the ick. The rest is history.
or Jyotii Setthi, acting happened through the social media way. This Punjabi kudi came to Tollywood and in no time has merged well in the local scene. With “Where is ‘Vidya Blalan’?”, she has grabbed quite a lot of eyeballs and earned a great fan following. Proving her versatility, Jyotii is also ready to woo Punjabi and Hindi movie audiences. How the entry and the journey have been till now in the reel world, the diva spills the beans.

FLAME OF ALENT
Facing the camera for the first time? I was apprehensive and quite unsure, perhaps a bit uneasy too. Luckily it didn’t take me too long to shed my inhibitions. Soon I learnt to consider the camera as my best friend-cum-well-meaning critic.
What are your strengths as an actor? My girl-next-door looks, my willingness to learn and ability to learn it fast. Above all it is my sincerity towards work.
We heard you are into modeling too! What is the difference between the two? I am not really into modeling; I am an actor who has accepted certain modeling assignments to associate with brands/ people/ causes that I believe in. The difference lies between 150 minutes and 150 seconds.
Any Punjabi projects? I have recently completed a short feature film Dill Wali Gal with Amy Virk which released on 24th May. Within 24 hours of release, it received huge number of views. Earlier, the song with Punjab’s heartthrob Gippy Grewal had also earned me a lot of recognition.
How was it working in Where is Vidya Balan? Can you share a few off-screen interesting incidents on the sets? It was a steep learning curve for me, especially because of the language barrier. But I must mention that the crew and cast were extremely supportive. I was given the required space, opportunity and freedom to learn from my mistakes. Off-screen incidents – As they say “what happens on the sets stays on the sets” so my lips are sealed (winks).
What are your criteria of signing a movie? I am comparatively new in the industry and a beginner does not have the
Any Bollywood plans? I have completed two Bollywood films. The first movie stars Karan Hariharan and Pawan Malhotra and is likely to be released on 24th June. The next is Phullu with Sharib Hashmi of Filmistaan fame and is slated to release in September. I have also signed another movie, about which I can’t divulge much.
Tollywood towards you? It has been warm and welcoming. I wish I had more opportunities to work in
With new talent entering the industry every second day, how do you hold your ground? Why to choose you over others? I don’t think it is about choosing one actor over the other, it is more about choosing the right actor for the character. At my end, all I can do is research about the role, get deep into the skin of the character and then give it my best shot. The rest is destiny.

(April 20‐ May 22) You will feel confident as it is quite a promising and positive stage. Even if your work will create a few problems, under no circumstances it will come to a standstill. Focus on significant moments. Love life will undergo some changes, but they will be far from fundamental. You may find your soul mate. Look at yourself honestly and impartially. If you are unhappy about something, then fix it and stop crying over your own incompetence and wallowing in self‐pity.
Taurus
Lucky for you: 17, Green
It is an exclusively positive stage. You will have an unending supply of energy. Yet, you should not grab everything that comes your way, otherwise you will accomplish nothing. Your strength is large, but not unending. There are things that are really necessary and then there are things that can be put away until later. On the love front, your relationship will come to harmony though there could be some minor hassles. Plan some exceptional event for this time, because its result is likely to change your life.
(March 21‐ April 19)
ARIES
VIRGO
(Aug 23‐ Sep 22) You may go through a rough patch, during which your sensory‐emotional sphere will play the main role, with all the other aspects of life being moved to the sidelines. Probability of breaking up with your second half is extremely high. Your feelings, emotions, intuition and passion will play the key role here. Your finances will be on your side. Time is positive, though ambiguous. At work you may find yourself between colleagues and management. Don’t even try to please both sides.
Lucky for you; 18, Orange
CANCER
(July 21‐ Aug 22) You may face some challenges on your life journey, especially on the sensory‐emotional level. There is even a chance of a strong and total depression. To avoid this, control your own desires. You will be stable at work. You will have successful time, full of epic victories, which will be associated with minor problems that are solvable. You will have to try a little bit harder in your love life. Be warm and candid with your partner. Lucky for you: 16, Magenta
LEO
(May 23‐ June 20) You feel great, though the scene is devoid of patrons. It is a very positive time. At work, you are encouraged to move in the set direction. You will encounter a lot of situations where external circumstances and even opinions of those who you blindly trust radically contradict your actions. Stay alert. You'll have to slow down the pace of your work a little so that you can more clearly reflect on the events happening around you. Love life will bring a lot of positive movments .
Lucky for you: 20, Blue
GEMINI
(June 21‐ July 20) Success is awaiting you in all possible directions. The dynamics of the coming days are amazing. You'll have enough strength and time for several projects and will be excellent at multitasking. If you run your own business, try to allocate the duties and the workload among your employees. If you are an employee, then do not give up your own initiatives and ideas. Your love life will be bright. This does not mean that it's time for you to radically change your life.
Lucky for you: 23, Red
Lucky for you: 16, Sea green
(Oct 23‐ Nov 21) At work you will face dilemmas and challenges, though there is nothing life‐threatening. Be vigilant in dealing with your colleagues or business partners. Love life will sparkle with new colours. There will be many changes going on. Do your best to maintain the sobriety. You are honest and fair and now you will face a great chance to make most of these features. The situation is, for sure, not the simplest, but it is manageable. You won’t experience problems overcoming any obstacles.
SCORPIO
Lucky for you: 19, Mauve
(Sep 23‐ Oct 22) The working and financial side will be as stable as never before. Yet don’t lose your vigilance, even when things turn out the way you want them to. In relations with your colleagues, stay unbiased. In love life, things will be somewhat different. A sharp and curious mind is now more important than vivid feelings. In relationships with your loved ones, refrain from making sudden movements, but still stand your ground because they most likely will be in the wrong.
LIBRA
(Dec 21‐ Jan 20) It will be a stable and quiet time when you won’t have to work to the bone to get the desired results. Your working moments will be on a slow pace. If you are the boss don’t put too much pressure on your subordinates and be loyal and democratic. This will only raise your authority. If you are an employee, don’t plan any holiday. You need to be in the workplace. There will not be any significant developments in love life.
Lucky for you: 17, Black
CAPRICORN
SAGITTARIUS
(Feb 18 –Mar 20) You are confident in all areas but your spiritual world will blossom. There won’t be any exceptional situations awaiting you at work place. Your business will enter the road of steady, methodical and consistent progress. Do not rely too much on your subordinates. Be more vigilant than usual. Love life: this is a successful period for making life‐changing decisions. Don’t doubt your abilities and the aspirations of your |"second half. Lucky for you: 9, Indigo
PISCES
(Jan 21‐ Feb 18) You will face difficult situations. But failure in one area will necessarily entail success in the other. Concentrate on key points. In love life, you will be confident. Control your aggressiveness and keep quiet, if you fail to find clear‐cut arguments. In the course of time, people will realize that they were wrong and will definitely apologize to you. The stars are on your side. Don’t lower yourself to prejudices; follow your personal principles and values.
Lucky for you: 24, Pink
AQUARIUS
(Nov 22 –Dec 20) You will go through a lot of interesting events and you will safely solve all the challenging situations. You will find yourself in a situation that will be favourable for you. In terms of the working sphere it will be a really successful and bright time. In general, circumstances will be positive, but not in every aspect, so don’t count too much on good. Love life does not herald serious problems. Yet some ambiguous situations might still occur. You need to act methodically, without direct confrontation.
Lucky for you: 25, Brown

SON SHNE HOSPTAL I J
oint replacement surgeon and founder of Sunshine Group of Hospitals, Dr. Gurava Reddy, is one name in the city which has ended up being a brand in itself. He performs around 4,000 joint replacements a year which is the second highest number in Asia. His son, Adarsh, also an orthopaedic surgeon, has been working for the past two years and follows his father’s footsteps. Both of them have many common interests – reading, writing and music.
The Bond Father: I see myself in my son and I feel that he is an extension of my persona, both in and out. Son: I know it is a cliché but from the beginning our relationship has been like two friends. Dad has rarely been strict with me. Team Work Father: It’s fantastic to have him around, especially because he has got the same passions as mine. red | june 2016 | 34
Son: Initially it was quite daunting for me because I didn’t know how to interact with him at work but he is very cool though he was no different from what he is at home. I got slowly eased into my job. Strength & Weakness Father: My no-holds-barred commitment to my children’s happiness is my strength. However, sometimes I fail to see their perspective and that is my weakness.
Son: My strength and my weakness both come from him. But the flip side of the coin is that his shoes are too huge for me to ever realistically fill.
Son: I don’t think I am at any position in my career to be able to give advice to dad on how to run a business. IN BRIEF FATHER
The Decision Maker Father: I try to win him over with my arguments but I succeed only 50% of the time.
On As Dad and Boss Easy, I am like a dad to all in the hospital and a boss at home! On He Stepping into your shoes So much that I wanted to change the hospital’s name from Sunshine to ‘Son’shine!
Son: Often it is dad’s way, so usually he is the decision maker. Bringing Work Home Father: Most of the times we don’t but at times I discuss some matters with him and my wife.
On Present Generation I appreciate their clarity of thought and expression and their enthusiasm to enjoy life. I dislike their occasional lack of focus and respect to traditions and elders.
Son: Earlier, we never used to do it. But nowadays he has become so busy that some decisions that need to be made by him can only be done at the dinner table. Lessons Learnt Father: I have learnt how one can be persistent and perseverant to get any job done. I admire his vocabulary and choice of words in constructing a sentence. Son: Everything I am today is only because of my father and mother. Dad has always taught me to be humble, honest and compassionate. He is a hero to many people around the world, especially in the field of orthopaedics and I am proud to be his son. Fond Memories Father: There are thousands. When we were in England I recall him sitting on my tummy as a child and both of us enjoying the clementines and we used to listen to the Beatles song – “Shake it shake it Baby”. Son: My fondest memories with dad are the same as the one he mentioned. I was hardly 4 then. On the Family Vocation Father: The advantages are that you have a person with whom you can share everything. The disadvantage is sometimes when the perspective differs you cannot shout and throw him out! Son: The obvious advantage is that my boss is my own father and he being as cool as he is, I never have to think twice to skip work for a
couple of days and go on a holiday. But the flip side is that, because it is your own business you feel the pressure of responsibility. Ultimately, though you have the freedom to be more casual, you end up actually working much harder than you would elsewhere. The Expectation Father: I will be happy if he can take more responsibilities in the care of senior personnel in the hospital which he is reluctant to do.
Parenting Learnt From Your Dad My father was stricter than I am, but he was gracious enough to take the backseat when I grew up and let me take my own decisions. I wish to do the same. Rating On the scale of 1 to 10, maybe 7. Failing to see his perspective and sometimes being overbearing cost me the 3 points. SON Unwinding Together We go for a movie or listen to music. To Impress Him When a post-operative x-ray comes out perfectly after a surgery I performed, I like to show it to dad and get a pat on the back. The Naughtiest Thing Done Together... When I was a kid in England, dad had taken me to a famous museum, I had to pee urgently. There were no restrooms in the vicinity, so dad looked around for options and suddenly had a brilliant, naughty idea. He found an empty McDonalds milkshake cup on the street and gave it to me to fill up. One Thing You Will Do With Your Kids I want to spend as much quality, happy times with my kid as my father does with us. Message To Him One thing I haven’t told him enough – I love you dad! You were always and will always be my Hero! red | june 2016 | 35

BOND OF PASSION
Appraisal Father: My sons are my future and I am extremely proud of all three of them. Sons: Dad is our role model and we are what we are because of him. The Bond Father: It is best described as divine. Sons: For us, he is God on earth and hence the only way we can describe it would be blissful. As a Team Father: We work as a good team but I think we can improve it further. Sons: Working with our father as a team is a great learning for us. There is always something new to learn from him. Strengths and Weaknesses Father: My experience is my strength as I have been in the business for quite some time now, while my weakness is my relationships.
Sons: To get into a family business means having things ready for you to walk in and be accepted with open arms, while the disadvantage is the inability to make independent decisions.
On The Present Generation I admire the confidence.
The Expectation Father: I wish they would learn to be more patient and would handle situations in a better way.
One Dislike I appreciate most of the things - their ability to multi-task and I know they are capable of bigger achievements. Don’t like success getting into their heads too early.
Sons: If only he would adapt to the pace of the world and leverage technology. FATHER Being Dad & Boss It is not really difficult to play a perfect dad and is also to be boss. You just have to know the thin line between both the roles.
The Proud Moments When they work hard and expand the business to a new heigh.
Learning Parenting Whatever I am today is because of my father’s grooming and I improvised on it. SONS Unwinding Together We usually visit a temple or have detailed chats while walking. To Impress Him By showing up early in the morning in the office after a late night party!
Sons: Our technical skills are our strength whereas the lack of experience is definitely the weakness.
The Craziest Thing Done Together It was when we bought a modern dress for mom on her birthday.
The Decision Maker Father: I am. I call the shots.
Change A Habit In Him The thing with that generation is that they have a wealth of experience but are not very practical.
Sons: Dad is and we like to believe that we enable him to make the right decisions. Bring Work Home Father: We try not to bring work on to the dining table – that is the only way we maintain a separate personal and professional life. Sons: As much as we try to avoid it, it ends up happening.
Rating We would like to believe that we have been obedient and caring children. Message to Him Although we might argue or debate with him on issues, it’s just a learning process, we will never cross the line he has drawn for us.
Lessons Learnt Father: My sons have taught me modernity in business. Sons: Apart from the various things he has taught us, the most important is how to remain calm at all times. Memorable Moments Father: The best moments for me were the birth of my kids. Sons: Our first day to school with dad Pros & Cons Of Family Business Father: The advantage of a family business is the proven legacy and enduring relationships, whereas the disadvantage would be to adhere to the well laid policies. red | june 2016 | 37

early three decades have seen the transition of R.S.Brothers – from the smallest stores to the large textile kingdom it has become. One of the establishers, Mr. S. Rajamouli has been an integral part of the brand’s success story. His son, Suresh Seerna, Director at the company, joined the business five years ago, after finishing his MBA in Marketing from London. This father-son duo has one thing in common and that is the fact that they are both pure businessmen.
BINDING The Bond Father: Now that he is a grown up man, the two of us are more like friends. Son: The bond the two of us share is of love and respect. To me, this relationship is very sacred. As a Team Father: Even though we work in the same business, our fields are very different. Hence, there is barely any teamwork. Son: Working with him means learning constantly. He teaches me a lot of things, from handling customers to working around margins and attracting customers. With the kind of experience he has, there is always a lot to learn from him. red | june 2016 | 38
BUSINESS
there is a need to bring them home. Learnt from the Other Father: I wish I could learn how to use the computer from him. While his work is computerised I still do it manually. Son: There is a lot! The list is never-ending... I have learnt purchasing, sales, talking to people, time management, etc. Fond Memories Father: The moment he was born. Son: As a ritual, the family would go on a holiday every year and those were my best times with my father. The childhood, carefree days relaxing with my father was so much fun.
Strengths and Weaknesses Father: He is my strength! It is after he joined me that the business has increased and I am sure he is going to take it higher levels. Son: My strength is my father. He has built this business from scratch and it is naturally, easy for me to learn from him. I cannot think of any weaknesses. The Decision Maker Father: Usually decisions are taken together. Son: Dad is 100% correct in his decisions. Even though he listens to me and my point of view, the ultimate decision making lies with him – and I prefer it that way. Exchanging Tips Father: Not really, apart from the fact that he uses computer like magic and I just sit there zapped looking at the way he handles it. Son: Oh yes, at every step! We both discuss and exchange tips before going ahead on any project. Bringing Work Home Father: That is something I try to avoid. Son: Yes, that happens. Our work schedules are so busy that seldom do we get time together at work and hence
Reacting to Situations Father: I lose my temper very easily while he is the calmer one. He is extremely friendly whereas I am not so much of a people’s person. Son: He is quite serious while I am the calm one. I don’t lose my temper as easily as he does. On Family Business Father: Working in a family business only has advantages, there are no cons.
On the Present Generation The fact that they have too much of a mind of their own Rating I think I am a 10/10 father! SON Unwind Together We usually go to a movie. Impress Your Father I try and work like him! One Habit to Cultivate I know that work is his priority but I want him to focus on his health. On Previous Generation In my case, I have been blessed and I appreciate that. Whatever I wanted from my elders, I’ve got. Learnt from father My father brought me up with a lot of freedom and I wish to give the same to my kids. If I can bring them up with a free mind, I’ll succeed as a parent. Rating Eight
Son: The advantage is that you are prepared and learnt work from day one, whereas the cons would be that people expect way too much from you. Expectations Father: I expect him to systematically increase the business. Son: My father has always been busy with work and in all that, he has forgotten that health is very important too. I expect him to now start looking after himself. FATHER Perfect Dad Being a perfect dad is not difficult at all. Even though I am his boss and father, I find it very simple. Learnt from Him I think I have learnt how to be people-friendly from him. A Proud Moment When he joined me at work. red | june 2016 | 39

His sons, Murali and Gopi, joined their father nearly 20 years ago and promise to take it ahead with utmost respect and dedication as their forefathers did. The Manepally family is deeply rooted in the jewellery business and are the keen observers of the trends for so long that they can actually make a prediction of the future.

Being Dad and Boss I do not feel any difficulty as far as the children understand the situations rightly. Before becoming a boss, I always struggle to become a master in the particular deed I expect them to perform. Lessons Learnt I have learnt the purpose of my life from them. It was after I looked at their joy, love and affection that I realized the aim of my life The Proud Moment When friends, relatives, near and dear ones appreciate their business, dedication and success, as well as their attitude towards the society. On Present Generation I appreciate the smartness of the present generation, while I quite hate their falling easily to unnecessary habits. . Yoganand, CMD, Manjeera Group, is not just a business honcho but also a big family man. Having started the company in 1985, he has worked hard to get it to where it is now. His daughter, Veena Gajjala, has joined him as the Director of the company after obtaining her master’s degree in Real estate Development from NYU. Both are extremely passionate about core construction and also love spending quality time with the family. Travelling together on work is something both enjoy as it gives them some quality time together, too.
Holds Together Father: The bonding, of course! She is my world... Daughter: Fathers can't express their feelings hence that understanding needs to be discovered. The Bonding Father: She is my prized possession. I listen patiently and have all the time in the world when she needs me. red | june 2016 | 44
Daughter: No one can judge you better than your father. My dad and I are the closest in our family. We talk a lot and don't have a third person to share our experiences with. It's only between us. Team Work Father: We make a great team. She joined me recently. Daughter: I just joined my dad. Till now, it's all good.
Strengths and Weaknesses Father: I'm not too emotional; I take things as they go. Daughter: When I want something to be done, I do it. I don't leave things to chance. Maybe that's my biggest strength, and this may turn out to be the biggest weakness too as anything in extreme is bad.
The Decision Maker Father: I am accommodative. So she wins her way always. She has 100 reasons before hand, so no way I can say no. Daughter: I think I respect whatever he decides. Having said that, I must also admit that he is very liberal and adaptive. He has always supported me in everything I did, every decision I made. He guided me thoroughly. Bringing Work Home Father: I never, ever think about work once I enter the house. I don't like to bring work pressure home. Daughter: Yes, when I am not satisfied with work, I do. My mind keeps wandering about it. So, I discuss things even at the dining table.
On Family Business Father: It's good for the business, as no one can treat it like your own, except for the family members. Commitment, flexibility and cost cutting are easy and accepting the minor mistakes comes as a part. Daughter: It is a learning platform. Nothing can teach you better than your own company. Own people and the experience you gain are worth the time that you save, investing in any form of work. Nepotism can be considered as one of the major disadvantages. Hopefully the structured leadership accepts you the way you are. Expectation Father: We all are different, all you need to analyse is the capability. Daughter: I expect him to change from traditional ideas to the modern. In brief FATHER Perfect Dad and Boss It is difficult, it depends on the understanding the duo shares, but love towards their kids makes it all possible.
Learning from Her Everyone has something to teach the other: small things like eat something before a walk – which I follow. I am not aware of brands, they learn things and we learn from them. Proud Moment When she got admitted at the New York University. On Present Generation They are less dependent on parents and more career-oriented, but on the negative side, they don't respect the sentiments of parents and judge them accordingly. Learning from Father I learnt that one must give more freedom to children to help them learn more and become more creative and innovative, from my father. DAUGHTER Unwind Together We have to have a perfect holiday. Impress Him I have never actually done anything to impress him, but always think how he can be made happier. Wish to Learn I wish I could learn how to balance everything- from family and friends, to the business and from pressure to leisure. And his energy levels! The list is never ending as he is the perfect dad to me! One Habit to Give-up I want him to relax and not take burden, to be a little careful about his health.
Reactions Father: She is young and aggressive, needs time to settle things. I want her to take life as it comes and give her everything best.
Message to Him I thank you for your enormous love, and sometimes I wonder how can I have such an amazing person in life to take care of me. From the time you carried me on your shoulder to this stage where I walk with you, am your proud little girl, who will not let him down. Thanks for being my first love, dad. Without you, I am nothing today. And I will do everything to make you proud.
Daughter: Dad is a very patient human being. I react faster and come to conclusions soon.

Mutual Appraisal Father: Varun, like my other kids, shares the same passion and enthusiasm towards fun, adventure and life, like me.
On Family Business Father: According to me, there are no disadvantages in a family business, there are only advantages!
On The Present Generation It is smart and dynamic and if they have the right direction and platform they can do very well.
Son: I am very similar to my father with a lot of common interests.
Son: In a well-run family business the vision and focus tend to be firm and similar, since the management remains the same. But I have seen that this may be disadvantage for some businesses at times.
Learning Parenting A lot! My dad was a civil engineer and his sheer hard work and respect for human values were a big motivating factor for me. And this I feel I should pass onto the next generation.
The Expectation Father: We have a common goal so we have an orchestrated way of working. We have worked on many projects together and completing large projects and deals. So my
Rating Without compromising I am a cool dad!
As a Team Father: It’s fun and also interesting to see how beautifully they evolve. I find the GenX pretty smart and resourceful and I tend to learn from them! Son: We work pretty well as a team. Over the years, we have all found our spaces and areas of excellence. The Decision Maker Father: At work, we share our thought processes so that there are no clashes of ideas.
On Previous Generation Previous generations taught us to respect older people, especially our parents. This is really missing in the current teenagers.
Exchanging Suggestions Father: Of course! To run any company, one needs to be open to ideas and brainstorm. Hence we have a daily informal interaction.
Learning From Father One thing he did that I will make sure I will do with my kids is not smoking.
Son: Yes, we have a very healthy relationship, with a two-way conversation on every subject. My father welcomes new ideas, suggestions and tips.
Rating A+++
Bringing Work Home Father: That is one thing we are careful about. As much as we can, we try and keep work away from the house. Son: We never talk work on the table if the rest of the family is present. But occasionally we do discuss work when it’s only the two of us.
Son: There are way too many of them to list in a few lines. Different Reactions Father: Being a first generation entrepreneur my reaction to situations are totally different and mostly guided by my instincts. Son: When we first started working together, I was a lot calmer than my father, but lately I feel that it’s the other way round!
Unwinding Together... We try to grab a meal or watch a match together. Impressing Your Father He gets really impressed with IT stuff so I enjoy teaching him a trick or two.
Son: Since we run a global company, we rarely get into each other’s space. However, in an event of conflict we have always respected our father’s decision.
Fond Memories Father: The best times I have had with my children were during the various family trips to Disney World, South Africa, Alaska and Maldives.

Exchange of Tips Father: Always. You get to hear some fresh and novel ideas and if nothing, it is a way to impart knowledge. Sons: All the time. We call him a couple of times a day for help.(Smile)
Home Work Father: (laughs) Yes, we carry our work to the dining table because that’s the only place I get to talk to them together.
SONS Unwinding together Play racing games on the play-station or watch TV together. Our most recent obsession is Shark Tank.
Son: Always! That is the place to impress dad with the work we are doing.
To Impress Him Try and wake up on time or go to the gym/exercise.
Lessons Learnt Father: I learnt how to strike a balance, being compassionate and team building

Proud Moments I have lost count. In almost every forum. On Present Generation Their sense of time!
On Family Business Father: What we have is ours and we can mould our time and lives around one another. The negative is that even when we are relaxing, work becomes a part of the agenda.
Lessons of Parenting Lots and lots. My father taught me value of space and trust.
Sons: The advantage is that we get to draw from a wider set of skills. Can distribute the work and can take time off from work more easily. Disadvantage: carrying work and the boss knows when we are back home from the party, never an easy excuse for showing up late to work! (smiles)
One Thing You Regret I wish I could increase the amount of time I spent with them when they were in school. I realised that when they were going out for graduation.
Expectations Father: Just the fact that we need to get our timings tweaked. Sons: No changes required. Dad is a natural leader at the workplace. And he is doing a wonderful job of guiding the second generation into the business. FATHER On Being Dad and boss Not at all difficult if you can be clear with all stakeholders. On Time For Take Over They are already there. We literally trade shoes!
Rating I am more a friend than a father... willing to always be there.
On Previous Generation… We appreciate that they have adjusted their lifestyle and thinking with the changing times. In short, they are very chill parents! One Thing You Wish To Do With Your Kids, Which Your Father Did Not... We will make sure they work professionally outside of the family business in the first few years. Rating It is dad’s prerogative. One Thing You Want to Tell Him.. Stop partying so much, we are getting jealous!(Burst into laughter)
