Adding to the fascinating list of his achievements is his latest venture, a unique hotel- Rockdale Clark’s Inn Suites. Be its asymmetrical shapes, exceptional interiors, cozy accommodation or delicious avours, every bit speaks of this perfectionist whom the city knows as Vengamamba Srinivas Babu. Why does he take up such unusual ventures? If you are also seeking the answer, read (t)his story. Flashback My father hails from a small village called Narrawada in Nellore. Vengamamba is the deity of our native place. Though our initial is Pachava, my father is known as Vengamamba Venkateswar Rao. The arid conditions of the village compelled my father and his brothers to move out and they got into construction related business. After working in Vijayawada, Eluru and he landed in Vizag in 1982. Though my father and mother Mrs.Prameela were keen on my going for medicine, I joined GITAM for BBM and later got MBA degree. Professional Start Later, I joined my father’s business. We have been the largest suppliers of stone chips used in making concrete and roads. We are also into manufacturing of articial sand (granulated rocks), providing a perfect alternative to river sand. Stumbling Blocks All was going well, till we incurred a huge loss in 2001. We signed an agreement with a national highway company as sub-contractors. The principal contractor cheated the government and faced punitive action. In a cascading effect we were hit badly. Turning Point That was when I decided to move to Canada, but just a day before I was to y, I got a call from a construction company and was given the responsibility of quarrying activity related to their mega road project connecting Rajahmundry and Anakapalli. After that I never looked back. This project didn’t fetch me great money, but gave me immense experience in large scale quarrying and crushing. I took loans and risks. We have grown with the support of my family. My sister Latha and cousin Mallikarujun help me in managing this business. Leading Lessons It was a smooth sail for me as I had a decent business, happy marriage and enough luxuries. Suddenly there was this

ease, I went to Hyderabad to buy a horse and ended up buying ve. Latha proposed a riding school and Bayfront Horse Club came into existence in 2012. I got the best of trainers from north India and had 18 horses. Till now it trained 150 people. I have to mention that the locals don’t give their patronage so easily to anything novel. I was forced to downsize this facility as Hudhud Cyclone had devastated it and today we have only four horses. Now I am getting a lot of appeals to expand and run it like before. A facility of this order, that too, on the beach front is a rarity. Riding on the beach sands is very safe. I wish this sport turns into an asset the city can boast of. The Reason After nishing my college in Paris, I worked for two years in Hong Kong – it was then that I realized that I should start something of my own. I wanted to be a person who would be able to look back after 15 years and felt proud of something

For example, manufacturing a product takes us about ve days but its testing usually can go up to about a month. Since it is all high level precision engineering, one can’t afford to neglect any part of it.

Filmdom- is it thrust on you or you entered it on your free will? As a child I always aspired to become an IAS or IPS officer or join Army. Acting was never a part of my aspiration. I suppose the young dreams keep changing. I wasn’t a brilliant student. But at one stage I wanted to become a doctor; however my EAMCET rank was bad. I tried for MBA; somehow I could scrape through and joined my friend’s company. But I was not able to connect with the atmosphere. One fine day, the eureka moment struck and I felt I am meant for acting. I was clear that I wanted to be an actor and not a hero in particular. I embarked on the journey of my celluloid dreams. Did you obtain any formal training in acting? Yes. I obtained three-month training under Satyanand in Vizag. It was followed by a session in Mumbai under Barry John. Later on, I got trained by Aruna and Bikhshu for a few months. I was all set to put my learning into practice. How did you bag your first film? Y.V.S.Chaudhary saw me when I was playing cricket. He approached me and asked would I be interested to get into movies. Thanking him, I replied, my family is already looking into it. He enquired which family I am mentioning about. He was glad to know that I am nephew of Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan is handling my launch. He approached Kalyan and expressed his interest to launch me. That’s how my first project Rey happened. You debuted with Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitam, not Rey, and the former was a massive hit. Rey couldn’t fare well. How do you take this? Unfortunately, Rey couldn’t release on its stipulated time but it laid a strong platform for me. I learnt a lot from Chaudhury. He taught me the basics of how to face the camera. In Plila.... Jeevitam, Ravi Kumar Chowdary gave full freedom to express myself and the results everyone had seen. How was the feeling of receiving SIIMA best debut actor? It was overwhelming. However, it vested me with a great responsibly to perform better in my movies to come. Were you nervous to face the camera for the first time? Not exactly! More than nervous, I was emotional. It was like a dream come true.

Your third flick Subramanyam For Sale was a huge hit. Do you feel the audience of today’s era appreciate such unique concept? Frankly speaking it is not that unique as you said, it’s a commercial family entertainer. I would rather say films like Bahubali, Srimanthudu, Bhale Bhale Magadivoy, Kanche had unique storylines. There is a change in people’s perception and they are accepting novel concepts.

What are the qualities which make an actor a complete package? Everything should be in equal ratio, let it be looks, persona, body, onscreen presence, acting skills or dance moves. At the end, it is your calibre to entertain the audience that makes you sail through. Being related to powerful film clan, what are the advantages and disadvantages? There are two ways of looking at it. The pros are you have a set background and you can get a couple of movies cashing on it. But the cons are you are bound to be compared with the actors of your family who have established their presence in the industry. Besides this, you have to keep up the good reputation of the family.

How do you deal with such pressure? By giving my 100%. Every time I ask myself “Have I done justice to the scene?” I never keep any great expectations from my any movie. I just ensure that I give my best to every shot and deliver what the director wants. Who is your guide from your family? Kalyan, he is taking care of me. However, all my uncles have played crucial roles since my childhood. When I was in

What are your strengths as an actor? Seriously, I never thought of it. But going by the compliments of people I would say I am getting loads of appreciation for my comic timing, action and dance. However, I focus on what I have to improve, not on what I am good at. Any unforgettable incident on the sets? During the shoot of Subramanyam, there was a shot with Naga Babu. I took it casually, thinking it would be a cakewalk as I know him since my childhood. But as the camera started rolling I was blank, I forgot my dialogues. Then he and my director, Harish anna took control of the situation. After a few minutes I could deliver the dialogues. (laughs) What are the criteria for choosing a film? Story is what I go by before selecting a movie. It’s not about the director or production house. My role should be strong. As I mentioned earlier, I wanted

to be an actor not a hero, so if a movie offers me a good supporting character role I wouldn’t mind doing it. What are your upcoming movies? I am doing Thikka under the direction of Sunil Reddy and Supreme under the direction of Anil Ravipudi. These two would be out-n-out entertainers. If an audience is spending Rs.100-150 for a ticket, the movie should justify every penny he spends. He should be entertained, that’s the kind of subject I choose. What are your future plans? Are you trying in other film industries too? As of now I am concentrating on these two films. May be later on I can explore options even in other industries too.

I sweat it out in the gym regularly and try not to give it a miss. My diet consists of fruits, vegetables and proteins.

Managing stardom I don’t think I have achieved what is called stardom. Reason, there is not much of change in my lifestyle other than a few things like when I am with friends and in public, people come to me for autographs or clicking pictures and at times my friends get a bit irritated. ouzia Tarranum, can be simply called a powerhouse. The amount of energy and enthusiasm she has is rare to nd. A doting mother of a ve-year-old boy and also of a six-monthold toddler, she can even beat a teenager with her dynamism. She is candid and doesn’t mince her words. At the same time she is a self-proclaimed chatter box and admits that it’s impossible to keep her mum. With power of a strong woman and curiosity of a child, she is a deadly package who is giving the pros in the industry of exhibitions organizing, a jolt to stay alert. It is, indeed, an interesting and inspiring story to read. Down the Memory Lane I was born and raised in Vijayawada. My parents are teachers and I have two younger sisters. In our family everyone is in government service and none ever has any business link. I was determined to do research in the eld of molecular Biology. After successful completion of M.Sc. in Biochemistry, I joined IICT Hyderabad for a month. But somehow I wasn’t satised with the kind of research going on in India and the options in abroad appeared better. I worked as head of the Department Biochemistry for a couple of years. Meanwhile, I got through Strathclyde University Scotland for research, but couldn’t clear the Visa process. Without being dejected, I continued in the same eld. Around the same time I met Dr.Srikant, fell in love and we got married. Soon after I obtained masters degree in Psychology and rendered my services as a counselor for a brief time. Even I took up online career counseling for students and started my own blog. After a year, I found it wasn’t nancially fetching. I started looking for better avenues. However, being a mother of a ve-year-old baby, I could not have taken up full time job. Even Srikant was very particular about my not taking a too demanding task. Trade Tread I have a knack of interacting with people. I

can talk to any random person and gather information about their professions, interests etc. This quality steered the direction of my life. I was attending a few exhibitions (lifestyle) and out of curiosity I started enquiring from the exhibitors who came all the way from Kashmir, Lucknow, Delhi and Punjab. The answers I got and the response from the visitors I witnessed, impressed me thoroughly. I asked the exhibitors if they would be interested to participate if I organized a show and they agreed. Next task was to convince my husband. I could get his green signal as this job wouldn’t demand my full time

organizing the expo was just a month away. My husband asked me to cancel the event. I didn’t agree. I sought the advice of my gynecologist and even she didn’t give me any words of encouragement. However, I was determined and condent that I could do it. My exhibition was a huge success. I named my organization Creative Events and the exhibition is called Fashion Fiesta.

Challenges I was not aware of the local sentiment with Astami (Dussehra) and it fell on a Tuesday. It reected on the rst day of my exhibition and the exhibitors started complaining of not getting footfalls and suggested to wrap it up. Being the organizer, I should have been aware of such factors. Instead of losing heart, I convinced them that it would fetch them business. Vizag, being the cosmopolitan city with presence of many mega industries, IT and Navy, proved to be a promising ground. I chose Varun Beach Novotel Hotel as my venue. Within minutes after the inauguration, crowd just started pouring in and I was awestruck. I knew I was going to come back here again and again. Hiatus and Hit Back I took three months break for my connement and my second boy arrived. By now my full team was in place. We did the re-branding of Fashion Fiesta in a bigger way. I re-started in Guntur, then Vijaywada. I conducted back to back three shows in Vizag. Within four months, I have conducted nine shows. Within a year I have successfully organised 25 shows. Risk And Fear There are risks in any business, even if you invest your 100% of efforts, commitment and dedication. Customers constantly look for new things in our eld. When they see the same exhibitors they tend to complain that items are old. But that doesn’t mean they accept new ones so easily. I do bring in a lot of new products from new exhibitors. Customers’ awareness about the latest trends is a must to encourage the exhibitors. Support System Srikant is the greatest gift God had given; he has been supporting me at every juncture. From him I have learnt, how to handle stress, accept failures and how to be content. I have equally supportive parents and parents-in-laws. I share great

bonding with my mother-in-law. She is like my mom. Transformation When I started this new journey, there were risks and discouragement. Even health wise, things weren’t going smooth. However, my condence kept growing as I went on holding exhibitions. Earlier I used to dread travelling alone and always had my husband accompanying me. Now I not only travel alone but also stay. My PR skills have strengthened immensely. In Vijayawada, Kakinada, Guntur, people recognize me. I have built my own identity.

Upcoming Exhibitions I will be holding exhibitions in Taj Krishna and Chola Sheraton in Chennai by this month end. Since it is the rst time I am going there, I do have my doubts and apprehensions. Of course, I have to overcome my fear. Metro city experience will help me know the pulse of the crowd and the fashion fads. This I can pass on to the people of smaller places, where there is a little hesitation in accepting the avant garde. But a steady and repeated exposure to fashion will certainly help them accept new trends. Future Plans We also believe in giving back to the society. That gives us immense satisfaction. We help some poor students.

We started a trust called Jagruti to create awareness in women about healthy diet, wrong practices during pregnancy and childbirth, risks of iron and calcium deciencies etc. Suggestion to Women Women should have will power to withstand any problem. Always walk along with your family in your path of dreams. In pursuit of your aim, go ahead, take risk. You might fail once, twice but third time you are bound to succeed. FAST FIVE Leisure Time To spend quality time with my family, in-laws and parents. Greatest Wish I am very happy with the identity as Fouzia Tarranum. Not exaggerating, at times I feel jealous of myself. I am blessed to have my babies San and Dany and Srikant as my husband. I just wish life to be blissful even in years to come. Decoding Fashion It should be presentable and suiting you. Fashion Indulgence Being a woman I love to buy everything, but certainly only those that suit me. olly Gurbani, Hyderabad’s rst jewellery designer to win the Power Brand Rising Star award, is a name to reckon with when it comes to customised jewellery. Her brand Diyaash caters to the women of today, who carefully choose only exquisite pieces. Dolly’s love for travel in search of various concepts is what helps her in c r e a t i n g t h e extraordinary. It’s her ne eye for detail and class that differentiate her from others. Over the years, the brand has carved a niche for itself in the jewellery market.

The Inception I am fond of jewellery right from my childhood. I realized that this eld had been in my destiny since then. Even when I went shopping with family to purchase garments, my attention would always be focused on the jewellery that needed to match the clothes purchased. Slowly this became a habit and my love and passion made me develop an observant and critical eye. I got married and settled in Jakarta. I remember, I would advise people on various jewellery designs and even had people appreciating the designs I had created for myself, as they looked different. That was when I started getting queries from people requesting me to design similar pieces for them as well. I then decided to get into serious designing and had my rst jewellery exhibition in Jakarta in 2001. This was a huge success and changed my life completely. This denitely was the turning point in my life and gave me the motivation to turn my passion into profession. After 12 years of marriage I shifted back to Hyderabad to give the best education to my two daughters, Diya and Aashna., Around same time, I launched my own store Diyaash – ne designer jewellery in Hyderabad. The name is an amalgamation of their names.

Customisation Custom designing involves a lot of understanding and hence is a tough job. But when you see that the nal product has come out to be an exclusive piece – giving birth to your trademark – it all becomes worth it. So what I design is my mark and stays with me forever. Hence all the efforts put in get recognition and creativity is duly awarded.

Future Plans If things work out the way I want them to, I would love to open up a base in Dubai. And God willing, open a bigger jewellery lounge in Hyderabad. Define Luxury Diyaash! Hyderabad As a Market Hyderabad as an industry is still growing. There is demand for exclusivity and people do have an eye for the extra-ordinary. Having said that, I feel the market isn’t like how it was before. With a new store opening almost every day, there is a lot of competition. By God’s grace, there is enough space for creativity to survive, thanks to which, I have been well accepted in the market and won a loyal customer base here. Family Support I would not have been where I am today without my family – especially my father and his brothers. They’ve trusted me blindly throughout and with the kind of money that has gone into the business, I wouldn’t have been able to do anything without that trust. They have believed in me through my ups and downs, without once questioning what I was doing. It is only when one has a support system that strong, that they get anywhere in life.

Method: Take the American corn and make a paste of it. Take a pan, pour ghee and temper with carom seeds. Add the chopped onions and fry them till they turn brown. Add salt, green chillies, chilli flakes, jeera, turmeric powder and maida to this, mix it properly and keep it aside to cool down. Then make a tikka with it and coat it with semaiya. Deep fry the semiya coated tikkas in refined oil. To complete the dish, serve with a topping of curd.

Method: Take the Paneer and cut in cubes. On the other hand, take curd, add the carom seeds, green chillies, jeera, mustard oil, cream, turmeric powder and yellow chilli powder to it and mix it properly, to get the marination paste ready. Mix the made paste with the paneer cubes and keep aside for 30 minutes. Add these paneer pieces to skewers and grill in tandoor.

Method Take a pan, pour refined oil and heat it. Add onions to the oil and fry it till brown. Take the ginger chop, garlic pealed, fresh coriander and add it to the pan â&#x20AC;&#x201C; mix it well. Now, add the chicken into it and mix it properly again. Keep aside for at least 2 hours to settle in. Take these chicken pieces, add them on skewers and cook in tandoor.

Method Take the paneer and cut in cubes. On the other hand, take curd and add red chillies, salt, jeera, refined oil, chat masala, garlic and ginger, to it and mix it properly. Mix this paste with the paneer cubes and keep aside for 30 minutes. Add these paneer pieces to skewers and grill in tandoor.

Method: Wash the fish well and then make slices of it, without losing its shape. Take the mustard seeds, green chillies, salt, mustard oil, cream, yellow chilli powder, turmeric powder, ginger, garlic, jeera powder and chat masala in curd and make a paste for marination. Now add this paste to the fish and keep it aside for at least a day. Staying careful about the shape of the fish, add it on skewers and cook in a tandoor.

Method Wash the fish fillets properly. Soak the fish in salt, lemon juice and 4 cups of water for about 10 minutes, and then drain and wipe dry. Now marinate the fish for an hour with onion, garlic, ginger, green chilli paste, finely chopped mint, coriander and salt to taste â&#x20AC;&#x201C; to which now mix the gram flour and salt. Drop the entire paste over the fish. On the other side, heat some oil in a pan. Beat eggs with a pinch of salt. Take each fillet and cover it with the beaten eggs mix. Then sprinkle it with breadcrumbs. Deepfry the fillets till they're brown on both sides.

But there seems to be umpteen slips between the cup and his lip -interruptive phone calls; advice-seeking juniors; inquisitive customers and deliberating business associates. The young man of three and twenty deals with all of this with great patience and perseverance, which are rare to nd in his age group. We catch up with, perhaps, the youngest to be in the business of the famous Gothi clan at their sprawling showroom. What’s the capacity of the hospital like? It can go close to 1000 beds and we are in the process of ramping it up big time. We are venturing into heart and liver transplant and enhancing our strength in oncology. Later ,the lifestyle related clinical services likes cosmetic dentistry, cosmetology, IVF services and lasic –will come up soon.

What’s a typical week like, in the life of a COO? Meetings, meetings and more meetings! (laughs) well, that is what I normally do. With the way Parkway Pantai is coming big time into India, it’s only getting better. This is our rst initiative and we have some alliances, hence need to take care of those.

How soon? They are all at various stages of progress. For example the lasic should start in a month, IVF by January and we are looking at developing the liver transplant. Presently, we are getting the surgical team ready and in the next 3 months it should be running. My passion has always been the heart transplant programme, so we are looking at developing that. Multi-organ transplantation is a focus area for me. We are also working on cardiology, gastroenterology and oncology.

How do you keep up with the international standards? This hospital is, probably, one of the top ve in the country – purely based on the infrastructure. Each measurement, each inch is made to JCI standards. Secondly, the quality of work we offer. It has been two years since we started and we are practically zero infection when it comes to all intervention procedures and that is a landmark when we talk about any hospital in India. We are also planning to now roll out a campaign about this. Congratulations! That surely isn’t an easy task… Thank you. Convincing patients is not difcult here. The moment they enter the premises, they know they have reached the right place. Is the distance the only challenge? Yes, that is my biggest challenge. If I was 5 km into the city, my fortune would have been different. But healthcare is one domain where people go to any length to get good service; so it is a paradoxical situation for me and I wait for people to accept it. By getting better talent on board, we will overcome this. We are anticipating good clinical talent. This doesn’t mean we don’t have good talent already, but it will only get better. Secondly, people tend to get intimidated by the colossal structure and wonder if they can afford it. In fact, we are

What factors influence the growth of a hospital? A good consultant team is all we need. A patient will only come back if he gets an experience he has not received before. What are the challenges you face as a COO? My challenges are multifold. I have a challenge of expansion, engaging consultants, getting new talent on board, expansion of the facility then to market the facility. As a COO you don’t have any one else to blame and the board looks up to you – you have to answer to them. Let’s talk about your accomplishments... I’ve been one of the youngest in the industry to head a hospital. I was given excellence award. I am a healthcare professional who worked with Fortis and earned applause. We got a national award for energy efciency, got NABH for the hospital and then I have been a part of 2-3 leadership programmes. I am on the governing council for a couple of management schools. I did executive programmes from IIMs, Ahemdabad and Bangalore. Before signing off… I’d like to say that we are here to stay and ensure that people are well taken care of.

y tryst with her started with a formal early morning press conference and ended on a fun-filled shopping note. The intervening hours were just a roller coaster ride with Ms.Anuradha Vobbilisetty, a legal consultant from Dubai, who had left me wondering from where she garnered that incredible energy and zeal. She remained fresh and smiling throughout the tightly packed day, meeting innumerable obligations- from personal to social.

If her beauty captures your attention, her personality wins over your heart and her wisdom stimulates your brain. She is at once a gregarious socialite, an outstanding lawyer, a doting mother (involuntarily connecting to her son, Vaibhav in Dubai almost every hour) and a committed social activist.

Please tell us from the beginning. Though we belong to Vizianagaram, my father the late Mr.M.Satyanarayana worked in Vizag all through. I, along with four siblings, was brought up under the devoted care of my mother Mrs.Krishnaveni. We had a happy childhood in the scenic city. I pursued my studies here and obtained Masters degree in Public Administration.

Why did you choose Law? I may not be able to pinpoint any particular incident that goaded me to take up law. But I was given to understand at a very young age that justice is within the reach of only the rich and powerful and beyond the underprivileged. With the sole objective of bringing justice to the doorstep of the poor, I studied law and enrolled as a lawyer in 1995 and joined Mr.N.Venkata Ranganatham as his junior. I took to this profession like sh to water and won my very rst case. It was nine years of fruitful legal practice in Vizag and Vizianagaram, Godavari Districts. I give credit of this success to my father who encouraged me from the very rst step. Even as a budding lawyer, I used to take up cases of the underdog without charging them.

How did Dubai happen? My sister got a job in Dubai in 2005 and about the same time a friend wanted me to sort out a legal tangle there. Hence I went there. I happened to attend the Ugadi celebrations of Telugu association. There I was inundated with queries over many legal issues. I thought I should give it a try and started reading the judgments available in English. Choosing from the top ten legal rms, I joined Dr.Ibrahim Al Mulla Legal Consultants as an advocate and legal consultant. How did you meet your life partner? Little did I realise that along with the professional role there was yet another one awaiting me. I met Mr.Suresh, son of former Vizianagaram MLA, Mr. Vobbilisetty Rama Rao and the acquaintance grew into love and culminated in marriage. Suresh is the Managing Director of Alfa Metal Industry in Dubai. Adding sheen to my marital bliss, arrived our bundle of joy, Vaibhav who is now nine years old and we are happily settled. What is your ideology? I could save 13 people involved in 8 or 9 cases from capital punishment. I never chronicle any of these things nor do I look back at them as major achievements. As a woman, I am given the privilege of giving birth and nurturing another life. By giving a fresh lease of life to them, I feel I have become mother as many times. Don’t we call it social service? I refuse to attribute any such tags. I am ordained to do this and I do it. I am a very normal human being, leading a normal life. What is the motivation? I have all the gifts life can give like

education, wealth, happy marriage, heroworshipping son who thinks I am the best in the entire world, doting relatives. If you ask me why I work, work and work, I have to really fumble for an answer. In stray moments of self pity, I ask myself, “Why I am unable to sit back and enjoy life when everything is going so ne for me?” But when I really settle down to do that, my conscious rises up against me, pointing out that I am losing out on precious time

As Sharia Law forbids expatriate practising directly in the courts, I prepare case les and advise the parties entangled in criminal cases. There are a number of Indians languishing in Dubai jails. I counsel them and reach them the much needed legal assistance.

How many Telugu people are facing such a plight? The migrant population from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is the highest in the Gulf countries. Many land there seeking greener I am like those dolls that stand erect, whichever pastures, burning their way you throw them. bridges at home. They overstay, inviting visa problems. Often the company that hires them neither helps them in renewing visas nor pays their salaries. These people are not even aware that they have friends and saviours in the Indian Embassy to mitigate their problems as they nurse misapprehensions. I keep bringing this demand to all the people concerned and appeal to them to safeguard the blue-collared, who are ignorant of rules and regulations, face hardships. What is that you want to change in our legal system? Pardon the cliché, justice delayed is justice denied. I wish we could speed up the judicial procedures in our country. red | november 2015 | 105

What is the status of women in general and Indian women in particular? The question itself is outdated. We are all well educated, self-sufcient, advanced and know our way about in the world. My advice to women is not to wallow in self pity. It is time we erased negative thoughts and evinced condence in ourselves. How liberated are women in Dubai? Gulf women are very independent. They are highly educated. Go to any sector you nd women occupying high posts. Tell us about Pathasala I was the rst female member to head Telugu Sravanthi in Dubai and served from 2012 to 2014. But Pathasala is my own concept to propagate Telugu among NRI children. I did try to realise it through Telugu Sravanthi, but things were not moving at the pace I wanted them to. So I stepped out and started my own association UAE Telugu NRI Forum, with the tagline ‘A

An incident that you cannot forget. Five residents of Degam, Nizambad were involved in a murder case. The case was highly sensitive because of big numbers being awarded with death sentence, including the discussions at Parliament. Holding my newly born baby, I, along with Suresh approached the victim’s family in deep interiors of Nizamabad and obtained the release as per the legal system. Since the involved families are labour from poor families, there was no chance for the blood money realising by them. I raised funds from donors and could save few lives and get justice to the bereaved family. The kin of the punished were very poor and approached government to give permission to sell their kidneys. I invested my time and money to save them. Moreover, the frequent travel deprived me of the opportunity of nursing my own child. It was a big lesson to me and a milestone in my career.

Impulsive, fun and social are three words that describe this dynamic lecturer-turnedevent planner to the hilt. Here’s an insight to know her better. How about starting with how you got into this field… Well, it happened because my friend, Deepti Reddy bullied the life out of me to do the third anniversary party of her magazine. She was sure that if I was to host it, it would be as much fun. And that’s how I ended up doing it and before I knew it, it had become my career.

New career? Yes, I was an interior designer before that and a lecturer prior to that. I used to teach English literature for almost 15 years. Then one day I decided to give it up. It was during this break that I took up a course in interior designing and then for about two years did that. My son, Shantanu, was rather young then, and interiors did require a lot of time, so I stopped working in order to focus on him. It was when events happened to me, that I think I truly found my calling 12 years ago. Let’s talk about the brand ‘Archie’! What’s there to talk about the brand Archie? Which is your most challenging events? There was this wedding, where the bride was totally opposed to the idea of using owers. That left me bafed. So I had strings of rudraksh hanging around the mandap and lotus leaves for backdrop. That was one of the most unusual decors I’ve done. At another wedding they wanted to come up with a French look, so we ended up working with paper! Even the cake table was decorated with it and the overall effect was phenomenal! Moving on, how did your latest venture… ABsolut Style happen? Bobby and I have been good friends and

Your aspirations? To one day work with Preston Bailey! He’s the daddy of all events, the best wedding planner and best orist in the world. I met him once in Delhi and that was the most exciting day of my life. I feel gratied even if I get one opportunity to work with him. He is doing one event in Delhi and I made sure that I was invited for it so that I could follow him around! I am very star struck when it comes to him. How supportive has the family been? Fabulously supportive! I wouldn’t have been able to do anything if it wasn’t for them. My mother-in-law used to take care of my son while I was away teaching at college. If she hadn’t agreed to, I wouldn’t have stepped out. My husband Jayanth has been my pillar of strength throughout. When I decided to one day not teach anymore and took a sabbatical, he was more than okay with it. That break made me a lot more condent and helped in making me who I am today. Even the day I decided to leave interiors and take up events, he looked at me like I had gone mad but still supported the entire thing! I’ve been blessed. (Smiles)

What is that one thing that worked for you? I am very impulsive by nature. I do things without planning and I think that is my strength. That is what had happened when I took up my rst event. I wasn’t afraid of trying out new things.

What according to you is your greatest achievement? It might sound cliché, but to see my son grow. I know he’ll kill me for saying this I wish him to remain the sensitive and caring man he is today.

IHyderabadis are well travelled and well exposed, they are very much in tune with what is happening in the country and internationally. So Bobby and I put our heads together and picked up designers. Out all the vocations you pursued, which one do you like? I got into teaching even before my M.A. results were out only because there was a vacancy and the whole idea of having a salary excited me. One thing followed the other and every place has been more fun than the previous one. What I’m doing now excites me as I look forward to meeting new people. For me, that is the most important since I love meeting people. It is invigorating for me.

If you had to pick between success or riches? I want both! Why do I have to choose? One thing you’d like to change about yourself? I wish I was taller… then I’d automatically be thinner! If you are born again, who would you want to come back as? I’d want to come back as me… but a taller, slimmer me! Before you sign off… I hope I keep getting wonderful opportunities like I always have. I am nothing close to what I was when I started off and I am sure everyone evolves but I feel it is these different experiences and career paths that came my way, that have made me who I am. I just pray that it goes on like this and it’ll be a fabulous, kick-ass life!

How is a crown placed? Several steps are involved, and two dental visits are generally needed to complete the treatment. 1. The dentist prepares the tooth by removing its outer portion so the crown fits. Any decay is also removed. If additional tooth structure is needed to support the crown, the dentist may build up the core of the tooth. 2. An impression is made to provide an exact model for the crown. 3. You will get a temporary crown while you wait for the permanent crown to be ready—usually less than two weeks. While you have the temporary crown, this tooth may be sensitive to hot and cold.
