THANK YOU TO OUR
21-22 SEASON SPONSORS
2
Welcome Here we are at the last Mainstage production for our 21-22 Season, and what a ride it’s been! It’s fitting that through the many successes of the season (with a couple challenges in there—thanks, Covid), we close with our crown jewel, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. If you’ve enjoyed this season, we hope you will join us in the upcoming 22-23 season, for more beloved shows like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Dreamgirls, Bright Star, and Shrek the Musical. Subscriptions are available now, and single tickets will be going on sale early this fall. Like all fairy tales, Cinderella teaches us to think beyond daily life and imagine a better future. In this production, Ella isn’t hoping for just prettier dresses and glass slippers—fabulous though they are—but a change for her whole community. It’s something we aspire to here at Red Mountain Theatre. With your help, we hope to continue transforming our community through the power of theatre, education and outreach. We’ll take the shoes, too.

PRODUCTION & DESIGN TEAM Richard Rodgers (Music) had a career spanning more than six decades, his hits ranging from the silver screens of Hollywood to the bright lights of Broadway, London and beyond. He was the recipient of countless awards, including Pulitzers, Tonys, Oscars, Grammys and Emmys. He wrote more than 900 published songs and 40 Broadway musicals. Together with Lorenz Hart, Rodgers wrote 15 musical comedies for Broadway and London’s West End, notably Babes In Arms, The Boys From Syracuse, and Pal Joey. After Hart died in 1943, Rodgers collaborated exclusively with Oscar Hammerstein II on such musicals as Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King And I, Pipe Dream and The Sound of Music. Collectively, their musicals have garnered dozens of awards, including Pulitzer Prizes, Tonys, Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, and Drama Desk, Drama Critics’ Circle, Outer Critics’ Circle, Laurence Olivier, and Evening Standard Awards. After Hammerstein’s death in 1960, Rodgers collaborated with Martin Charnin, Stephen Sondheim and Sheldon Harnick. His fortieth, and final, Broadway musical, I Remember Mama, opened on Broadway less than eight months before his death on December 30, 1979. Oscar Hammerstein II (Lyrics and Original Book) was born to a theatrical family. After withdrawing from Columbia Law School to pursue a career in theatre, he found his niche breathing new life into the moribund artform of operetta with such classics as Rose-Marie (music by Rudolf Friml) and Song of the Flame (George Gershwin). With Jerome Kern, Hammerstein wrote eight musicals, including their masterwork, Show Boat. Rodgers and Hammerstein began their partnership in 1943 with the milestone work Oklahoma!, which blended musical comedy and operetta into a whole new genre - the musical play. Though most of their works are best known on the stage, they wrote one musical specifically for the big screen (State Fair) and one for television (Cinderella). He received many personal honors and awards including five honorary degrees, two Pulitzer Prizes, two Academy Awards and five Tony Awards. His last musical was The Sound of Music, written with Richard Rodgers in 1959; his last song was “Edelweiss,” written for that musical during its Boston tryout. Oscar Hammerstein II died on August 23, 1960.
