What is an Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE)?
For over 50 years, Karingal has been engaging with local businesses to provide a broad range of commercial services across Geelong to build the employment skills and capabilities of our participants. Today, our Australian Disability Enterprise - Karingal Kommercial, provides real work opportunities to around 120 supported employees with a disability as well as 40 supervising staff.
An ADE is an organisation which, with some government assistance, provides supported employment opportunities to people with a disability within a commercially viable operation.
Our services include food services and solutions in business and environmental management and our client list is well over 300 local businesses including Shell, Caron Lab, The Gordon and Barwon Water.
Karingal Kommercial’s supported work environment allows our employees to develop employment and workplace skills, as well as providing them with opportunities to achieve social and economic inclusion in our community.
Our new facility In June 2014, Karingal Kommercial opened our new 2,200m2 facility in Douro St, North Geelong. This state of the art facility was built with the generous assistance of the Victorian Government, providing us with much greater capacity and a central location for all employees and our business partners.

Seasons Café Seasons Café is Karingal Kommercial’s newest initiative. Located at the front of our Douro St property, this architecturally designed café caters to North Geelong businesses as well as anyone passing through. Offering sit down meals for breakfast and lunch as well as takeaway food and some of the best coffee in Geelong, our team are ready to serve you. Choose from our huge selection of ready-to-go hot snacks, sandwiches and wraps or try one of our daily specials for mains, pastas and soups. At Seasons we have created a relaxed and friendly environment where we are sure to remember your name and your order in no time, we guarantee it!

Food processing and preparation Karingal Kommercial can cater to all of your food processing needs. This new service was developed to satisfy growing demand and we now handle the washing, peeling, cutting and packaging of vegetables for a range of local businesses.
Fast fact: We can process up to 400kg of vegetables per day
We are fast becoming the number one destination for large food processing jobs including recently being contracted to wash four tonnes of potatoes! For Karingal Kommercial, safe food handling drives everything we do and our HACCP certification should give you complete confidence in our procedures. HACCP certification is given to organisations who have a proven process that reduces food hazards and ensures the production of safe products.

Our History A fascinating early history 1958- Income generating work began for local factories which taught Karingal students new skills.
1987- The East Geelong workshop became the East Geelong Community centre and all commercial work was now done through Moller’s Lane and the laundry.
1961- The McRae Dunn Adult Skilled Occupation Centre opened in East Geelong and housed a large new work area. 1962- Contract revenue reached 677 pounds for the work done for Ford, Die Moulder, Eastern Park Nurseries, Harvester Company and Donaghy and Son. 1964- Moller’s Lane farm property was purchased in Leopold for agricultural training such as growing flowers and vegetables. 1969- The Richard Davison extension to the East Geelong Workshop was opened. 1971- Karingal’s workshop added a laundry with a commercial washer and dryer. 1972- A special Commendation Export Award was received from the Department of Trade and Industry for contract work with the Ford Motor Company. 1978- The new Moller’s Lane workshop was opened by the Victorian Premier. 1981- Karingal took over the management of the Geelong Laundry. 1983- A hot house, a shade house and the start of a commercial plant factory were built in Moller’s Lane. Extensive work also began at the East Geelong workshop adding a new store room, a new canteen, kitchen and loading bay. 1984- The sheep farm and market garden at Leopold became known as “Moller’s Lane Plant Farm”.

Growing during challenging times 1990- The Recession and Pyramid collapse affected demand and challenged the commercial viability of Moller’s Lane and the laundry. 1994- An enclave was developed at Alcoa’s Point Henry plant for a group of 10 supported workers. 1995- The Geelong Laundry was destroyed by fire and led to its closure. The Moller’s Lane Plant farm and nursery were also closed and the core unit was moved to a new industrial property at Baxter Road, North Geelong under the name of Moller’s Lane Industries (MLI). 2001- Supported employment at Karingal celebrated 40 years of operation. At this time, MLI had six teams throughout the greater Geelong and 65 adults with a range of disabilities worked in a variety of employment settings.
Kommercial a new era 2006- Moller’s Lane Industries changed to Kommercial under Karingal-wide rebranding. 2007- Kommercial moved into hospitality when it acquired the Alcoa canteen contract to supply lunches to employees. The Café was believed to be the first of its kind- a hospitality operation employing people with a disability inside an industrial site. 2008- Kommercial packaged its one millionth product for long standing customer Caron Lab. Kommercial also celebrated its 50th Birthday and The Hon. Bill Shorten presented recognition awards to a number of Kommercial’s business partners including Alcoa, Timbertruss, Ray’s Outdoors, Pyrotek and Shell. 2013- Following a substantial $650,000 grant from the Victorian Government, work began on the new $5 million Douro St facility. 2014- The new Douro St facility was officially opened.

Karingal Kommercial’s Business Solutions is your one stop shop for those large or small outsource jobs. The opportunities for our crew to assist your business are endless and our mantra of “we never say no” should encourage you to put us to the test.
All of our crew are provided with inductions, on the job mentoring and formal training to encourage pathways toward open employment. We can also provide additional opportunities to our crew like getting their forklift licence. Your work allows us to continue to provide valuable work opportunities to empower our crew in the workplace.
We specialise in offering full point to point distribution services including; incoming, storage, production and outgoing services. Many of our clients just drive their semi-trailers in and out of our huge covered loading bay, everything else in between is done by our crew. We can also pick items up from your site.

For nearly 20 years Karingal Kommercial has offered landcare and maintenance services to many of Geelong’s largest industrial facilities.
Our price and service will not disappoint but our focus on occupational health and safety really makes us different. Our clients demand the very best, so each day we prepare a work plan, identify hazards and establish the safest way to achieve our objectives. Safety just makes sense to us and no serious injury in all our years of operation is a testament to that.
We also offer a brushcutting service that is second to none because we get into those tricky places that other providers don’t reach. Ask about our specialised services in tree planting and creating wildlife corridors. Fast fact: Our four crews are capable of mowing 20 football fields a day.

If you’re looking for local indigenous plants, then our new Geelong Community Nursery on the corner of Swanston St and Barwon Tce in South Geelong, is a great place to start. Catering to large contracts and landscapers, we offer a wide range of native plants that have been grown from quality seeds to produce thriving stock.
Karingal Kommercial offers the short and long term hire of indoor flowers and shrubs to brighten up any space. Our full maintenance service, which includes watering, pruning and rotation, is also available for hired plant stock or your own plants.
Our Environmental Solutions crews can also assist with all of your revegetation needs, making Karingal Kommercial your one stop shop for any sized planting project.
