WORDS FROM OUR CLUBS BA L R A N A L D
THE BALRANALD FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB IS NOT THE BALRANALD SENIOR FOOTBALL CLUB AND HOW WOMEN ARE THE ENGINE OF THE CLUB.
The writer of this editorial has been committed to this Club since his first game as a junior back in 1971. He has seen many changes to the Club, some for the good and of course some for the bad. At the time of writing this editorial the Club is gripped with the Co-vid pandemic and it is very frustrating for the Club to operate, but the Club is operating and still offering its sporting services to the Balranald youth and community. In previous years this may not have occurred and it would have been left to a few members to keep the Club ticking over. This is not the case now as the Club has engrossed a culture that it is just not the Senior Football team that you have to worry about but the Club as a whole. The family culture that has made this Club, is getting stronger by the seasons. We now cater for the kids making their Auskick or Netta debuts, right through the grades to the older footballers and netballers looking at retirement. The Club also reach out to the families to be part of the Club to instil a solid mentoring base in the Club. Gone are the days that the Senior football team is the main focus of the Club as it is only a very important part of the Club just like all the other teams. The Club is a one. Another big change in the structure of the Club is the influence of the women who are running the Club.

Starting with the Junior Footballers the Club have their first ladies coach of the Auskickers, this lady has taken it on when calls for coaches fell on deaf ears and she has to be complemented on how she has structured this area
throughout the season. The team managers are all female and apply their services to the utmost. Our football training department is managed by a lady that has brought in a very professional approach which has been much needed. Along with this upgrade she has made some very good recruiting decisions within the training area. The Netballers have gone from strength to strength particularly with their long serving President overseeing this area of the Club. She has recruited the right administration people and the right coaches of the teams. In particular, the Senior coach has not only played a big role in the training and playing of all players but also leads from the front off the field. Our canteen manager is in her first season and came into the job with a fresh mind and a hard working nature. She has structured the canteen to be ran simply and easily for the volunteers that are recruited each weekend. The main committee has seen a lady take on the area of memberships, and the increase in sales this year has been the best for many seasons and it is anticipated that further membership offers will be changed next season. The Clubs sponsorship area was also taken on by an energetic and forceful lady. Not only has she renegotiated with sponsors after missing a season she has increased sponsorships by close to double, an amazing achievement. The hardest job within the Club these days is the treasurer’s position, with the worries of BAS statements and salary cap reports on top of the normal treasurers roles this is a hard position to fill. The Club is thankful that a keen young enthusiastic lady has taken on this role, a role the Club hopes she has for a time yet. Thanks to all of the wonderful ladies that have contributed to the Club this season and for seasons to come and thanks to everyone for making Balranald a proud CLUB.

HEADSPACE SWAN HILL A B OU T U S headspace Swan Hill delivers FREE youth-friendly services to young people aged 12-25, and is a part of an Australia–wide network of headspace centres, aimed to help young people and their families and friends. headspace Swan Hill provides early intervention services to encourage help seeking behaviour and avoid ongoing issues. mental health can lead to significant effects Did you know: Good on a young person’s functioning and development. • Enhanced emotional wellbeing can be associated with marked improvement in social, occupational and academic performance. • Additionally, good mental health can be a safeguard against the detrimental effects of mental health disorders and the longer term effects, dysfunctions and disadvantages that can go on into adulthood if left untreated during adolescence. • Untreated or poor mental health can increase the risk of intentional self-harm and suicide. In fact, the leading cause of death among young people between the ages of 15-24 years is suicide. • Studies have shown that young females are around twice as likely as males to meet the criteria for having a probable serious mental illness.
THE GOOD NEWS
L & NE AL B
ALL TB
FOOT
Good mental health can be achieved and maintained, the same way in which dental and sleep hygiene can be improved with practice. headspace is here to help, with a team of mental health professionals.
• 62 per cent of the total young people (12 – 25 years) who accessed headspace centres in the 2019-20 financial year were female, and only 36 per cent male. • Within that cohort, one in seven aged between 16 and 24 will experience depression or anxiety each year - yet only 13% of young men in that age range seek help. • Males and females may need to seek help with different concerns. Gender differences have been found in mental health issues among young people aged 15-19. Females have reported high levels of concern for body image, while males have demonstrated higher depression.
MAKING AN APPOINTMENT It’s as simple as hopping on our website headspace. org.au/headspace-centres/swan-hill/ and completing a self-referral, or you can free call us on 1800 975 115, email us at headspace@shdh.org.au or just drop in. You can also ask a friend, parent or other family member, friend, teacher, health worker or community agency to contact headspace for you. NYAH NYAH WEST UNITED AUGU ST 14 VS C O H U N A K A N GAS Well, we are back into it. Hopefully there are no more interruptions and we can complete the rest of the season.
kicking for goal early in the game. Despite this, we were still able to come away with a pleasing win.
In our last full round before our enforced lay off, we hosted Tooleybuc Manangatang as we celebrated NAIDOC Round. Our Indigenous uniforms, both football & netball, looked fantastic. Congratulations to Joel Campbell with the design. There were some very good performances in the football, especially in the senior game; while the netballers also had a better day on the courts.
Murray’s Incentive 1 – Kaiden Pierce; Murray’s Incentive 2 – Jack Richardson; Pizza Kitchen – Lachlan Bates; Town & Country – Zak O’Shannassy; Nutrien Ag Solutions 1 – Beau Harlan; Nutrien Ag Solutions Hat – Ethan Curran.
This week we travel to Cohuna to take on the Kangas and hope to continue on our good form, despite the break. FOOTBALL RESULTS Seniors: NNWU 24.12.156 defeated Tooleybuc Manangatang 5.7.37 The Seniors controlled the game from the start in what was our most complete performance for the year. We were able to win plenty of the ball through the middle of the ground and gave our forwards plenty of opportunity to score, capped off with Brent’s 12 goals in a magnificent display of goal kicking. This week we have a great opportunity to test ourselves against one of this year’s flag favourites and if we bring the same effort as last week, you never know what might happen. Best players: Brent Arho, Zac Threadgold, Jake Wilkinson, Blake Larkings, Corey Daniels, Sam Arho. Specialised Fitness Award – Ethan Saville, Players Player Award – Zac Threadgold Reserves: NNWU 20.14.134 defeated Tooleybuc Manangatang 2.2.14 The Reserves played good team football right from the start against an undermanned opposition. Good to see coach Johnny get amongst the goals. Doey’s Meats Award – Tim O’Brien; Tasco Award – Sean O’Reilly; Grand Hotel Award – Ashley Thompson; Drover Contracting – Mitchell Jones; Swan Hill Pool & Spa and Swan Hill Garage Doors Most Determined – Cameron Forster. Colts: NNWU 8.10.58 defeated Tooleybuc Manangatang 5.3.33 The Colts game was a close one all day, mainly due to our inaccurate
Under 14.5: NNWU 10.10.70 defeated Tooleybuc Manangatang 3.1.19 After a very slow start to the game where the opposition controlled the play and led at quarter time, the team clicked into gear to play some good footy to end up recording a good win. V & S Andrews – Ethan Curran; Coaches Endeavour – Issy Boulton; Koraleigh Store – Max Thompson; Trainers Award – Zak O’Shannassy; Subway – Murndarr McInnes. Under 12: NNWU vs Tooleybuc Manangatang Even though the ground was covered in frost before the play, it didn’t stop the youngest footballers trying their hardest in what was a very even game. Coaches Award – Jase Thomson; Koraleigh Store – Jarrah Edge; Growtek – Kobe Kendrick; Classic Fish Shop – Audrey Ibbs; Subway – Max Thompson NETBALL RESULTS A Grade: NNWU 42 Best player:

TOOLEYBUC-MANANGATANG AUGU ST 14 VS BA L R A N A L D As this unpredictable season rolls on today we host Balranald in what will hopefully be an entertaining day of action. Thank you to Market Check who were last week’s match day sponsor & the club thanks you for continued support again this season.
Ashby Rogers, Subway – Jett Funnell.
3 weeks ago we took on the demons at Nyah with the senior game being a free flowing affair, however the boys were unfortunately unable to maintain the rage especially after half time. Best players – Jack Spinks, Mitch Ferrie, Tom Matarazzo, Zach Nichols.
And the latest Manang Hotel Auskickers award went to Ayden Walker & Lawson Ryan.
All stocks were called upon for the ressies who put in another spirited performance. Awards: Tooleybuc Sporting Club – Jake Foley, Swan Hill Packaging – Harper McNicol, Mallee Physio – Johbi Plant, Amaretto Almonds – Jack Main. The colts game was neck & neck for most of the match with the demons only managing to pull away in the last quarter with a few late goals. Awards: Mallee Physio -Kal Hazlett, WFI – Ryan Domaille, Sunrise Ag – Ryan Grace, Pooles & Associates – Jake Foley. The U14’s led by a strong defence jumped out of the blocks with the first 2 goals of the game only to eventually be reeled in by the top of the table demons. Awards: JA Electrical – Jordan Caddy, Pearsons Grain – Seth Linford, West Farmers Insurance –
In what is shaping as an exciting future for the club the U12’s dominated again with another well fought out effort by all. Awards: GoFarm – Campbell, Truck Specialist – Jacob, Pearsons Grain – Oliver, Subway – Noah.
Junior Footy vs Mallee Eagles @ Tooleybuc Last weekend it was great to see all the juniors be able to play in what turned out to be 3 very entertaining games of footy. Colts Awards - Mallee Physio -Kal Hazlett, WFI – Lex Wilson, Sunrise Ag – Harper McNicol, Pooles & Associates – Mackie Rogers / Ryan Domaille. U14’s Awards - JA Electrical – Cruz O’Sullivan, Pearsons Grain – Rylee Taylor, West Farmers Insurance – Rhys Bergman, Subway – Campbell Fisher. U12’s Awards - GoFarm – Cal, Truck Specialist – Kiely, Grain – Jed, Subway – Chad. Netball Notes: Our 12 & Under girls had a great game. There was strong defensive pressure across the whole court. And we ended up with a draw! Award to Tayce for great listening. With invaluable advice and tips from Jade,
the 14’s had an exceptional game. Little points to work on made a huge difference during the match. The awards went to Lucy and Hannah The 16’s played an awesome game together, winning 56-27. Keisha received a very welldeserved best on for her determination all game! B Res had Jade coaching them for the day and hit the courts with a positive attitude. Although the scoreboard didn’t reflect it, there were passages of play where we were winning. Award winners were Jess and Rachael. Under the watchful eye of Greg from Inspire, B Grade had a nervous start. Instructions at the quarter breaks saw a huge improvement from each player. Award to Tara A. A Res defeated Nyah, 51-39. After a particularly strong first quarter, we need to work on maintaining our lead. Award to Emma Temp A very even game across the board for A grade this week who came away with a welldeserved win. Jade made some positional changes and mixed things up, giving us lots of versatility going forward. Awards Peyton Oliver and Carlee Hazlett.

BALRANALD AUGU ST 14 VS TO O L EY BUC M A N A N GTA N G On a good day for football we had mixed results both on the field and on the court. Seniors: The lead all day bar just before the end of the game and then we regained the lead and held on for a nerve racking 1 point win. Our better players on the day were Jack Salau (Mug of day), Josh Hodgson (BFC incentive), Jacob Lister (BFC incentive), Jarryd Stead (BFC incentive), Col Andrews, Drew Lloyd, Michael Graham and Harrison Soraggi. Reserves The Ressies had a hard day at the office but the game wasn’t a blow-out which was good. Better players were Jess Scott (BFC cash), Paul Jealous (BFC cash), Toby Lay (BFC cash), Mick Linnett (BFC cash), Joe-Joe Kantilla (Mug of the Day), Jack Farnsworth, Jakeb Curran and Bailey Brougham. The Juniors: The Under 14’s played well to get a good lead at half time and they were lucky to hang on in the finish as the Dogs threw everything at them. SWAN HILL AUGU ST 14 VS T Y N T Y N D E R After an enforced break we are back out there with all grades this week even if we are playing with no spectators but lets hope everyone will be back watching the football and netball soon and the finals series can be played under close to normal conditions. Today we play our neighbour Tyntynder at Tyntynder with many very important games to be played highlighted by the senior football game where whoever wins will most likely grab 5th spot. Last week we ventured up to Balranald for some junior sport. It was a lovely day and was great to see the juniors out there. Our 250 club is still scheduled at this stage for August 21 so if you have not got your ticket please see Brendan Angus and Mat Collins. To last week’s results (Juniors) Netball The 14 and under girls came up against a very accomplished Balranald side and went down 34-17. They tried hard and still remain in 3rd spot on the ladder so be hoping for a good showing against the dogs today. The 16 and under side were our only victorious team
on the netball court last week. The side played very well and teamed terrifically to please coaches Sophie and Millie. Award winners Gemma Girdwood (218) and Grace Doherty (Pearsons). The 18 and under side like the under 14s came up against a rampant Balranald side who were too good on the day. The under 18s remain in 3rd position with a big game against Tynder today. Award winners Charlotte Angus (SHFNC) and Tess Meney (Pearsons). Football The U12s team were very happy to be back out on the field in the beautiful sunshine at Balranald. The boys played well again under coaches Scott and Andy against bigger opposition but was great to se them back in action. Award winners Harry Hunter (McDonalds), Jimmy Kelly (Kip McGrath), Owen Uebergang (Canteen), Ryder Wilkins (Thurs Night Meal), Elijah Ray (Seniors). The U14.5 side took a bit to get going but then played some good football to overcome the Roos. The boys are currently on top of the ladder but have some tough games to come. Award winners Sam Scott (Thursday Night Meal), Bodhi Kelly (Seniors), Lachy Vroljiks (Canteen), Sonny Beasy (Pearsons), Paddy Hufer (McDonalds) and Mitch Hinton (Pioneer). Good luck to all sides today!

MALLEE EAGLES AUGU ST 14 VS KO O N D RO O K BA R H A M Mallee Eagles Versus Swan Hill- Saturday July 10th 2021 A beautiful day for sport was had at Swan Hill. Unfortunately our A and A Res girls lost, but we now know what we have to do and how much hard work goes into beating those top teams. Our boys had a great lead but Swan Hill came back hard to take the lead with only minutes to go. A snap by Duck McDonald saved the day as we kicked a late goal to hit the front again as the siren sounded. Indigenous Round- Congratulations to Tobie Cameron who designed our indigenous jumpers and netball bibs. They looked fantastic and told the story of Lalbert with Labert Lake and Eagles being in the design. NETBALL RESULTS: 5/7 wins A Grade lost by 4 goals. Coach Vicki said our first loss of the season just wasn’t our day. Though we fought hard and played well we know we can do better and it could have gone either way. We will move on and learn from our mistakes. Awards: Alicia Harvey, Tayla Anderson A Res lost by 15 goals. Coach Vicki said we had some good passages of play but also this loss highlighted some grey areas to tidy up. Need to get everyone to training and work on strategies and skills. Awards: Sarah Young, Lauren Martin B Grade won by 10 goals. Coach Dee said it was a tough win showing great persistence and patience with the ball as we worked to get it into the goalies. Awards:Deb Parsons, Kelly Gould B Reserve won by 31 goals. Awards: Our U 16 team won by 2 goals, Coach Emelia said it was a fantastic game as we were down all game and only hit the front
in the final minutes. The girls fought hard, were resilient and finished off with a great win. Awards: Ali Bath, Neveah Roberts Under 14’s won by 20 goals. Awards: Our U12’s won by 8 goals. KOONDROOK BARHAM AUGU ST 14 VS WO O R I N E N RIVER RAIDERS RAMBLINGS Unfortunately due to that moron Covid our Reverse Raffle scheduled after last weeks game had to be postponed to a later date, anyone that has bought tickets they are still in play so stay tuned for an announcement on the new date!. Well done to our 2IC Justin Marsh on reaching 50 games with the Raiders, Marshy is one of our go to men during the season and as such he is always willing to help out, is the 100 achievable!. The Seniors went into this match well undermanned but they gave it their all for the whole game, although down by 44pts. at the long break they were determined not to be blown outa the park especially in front of their home crowd. The 3rd qtr. saw them live up to that and actually outscore their more fancied opponents by a couple of goals to be only down by 32pts. at the last change. However, the floodgates opened up in the final term as the Tigers showed why they are one of the flag favourites. Awards went to Col Mc Veigh (Raiders Man of the Day), good game by Col against pretty good opposition, Kye Attwell (Royal Hotel Barham), young Kye was getting higher than Joe Cocker in the ruck and did it very well, Max Baldissera (Barham Hotel), big Maxy was another who stood up when required, and Jake Dick O’Flaherty (Nthn Tree Fellas), young Dicko is having a stellar year and covers a lot of territory, others to play well were Matt O’Dwyer and Dom Dick O’Flaherty. The Auction Player went to Jake Dick O’Flaherty.
The Ressy’s lost but is another team that is a tad undermanned, they just couldn’t match it with the top team and although they tried their hardest were out played and got rolled by 65pts. Awards went to Jay Laursen (Wes Hare Spraying Services “Scooby of the Day”), Scott Wishart (Royal Hotel Barham), Rylan Attwell (Barham Hotel), and Lincoln Green (Raiders Canteen award). The Auction Player went to Scott Wishart. Our Colts were our stars for the day, a big win against the 3rd placed side the on the ladder will give them a huge boost in confidence for the upcoming matches, they are only outa the five on percentage but have another tough game this weekend. It was a great team effort, one they should be proud of, awards went to Ned Mathers (Royal Hotel Barham), young Ned played a ripping game all over the ground taking some big grabs all day, Josh Mc Mahon (Don Taylor Pen), how good is this kid, has a bit of class in him and well worth watching, Will Lake (Lane Electrical Socks), another of our young rising stars he uses the ball well and doesn’t panic in situations, and Jordan Bassett (Wilma Bott Canteen), the young stars names just keep coming, Jordan with his height uses it very well, well done boys keep it going now. We are getting through the season at a snails pace, not long to go now so let’s hope it keeps going!

Band Together
A reminder we all have someone to drive safely for. Black armbands have been worn on the field to honour a death in the community for decades. This weekend, every football club and their entire community are wearing a new kind of armband, to show their commitment to eliminating deaths and serious injuries on our roads. And you can too.
WEAR
SCAN
SHARE
Pick up a band from your local football club and wear it this weekend.
Scan the band to hear someone else’s reason for wearing it.
Share a film socially with your own reason using #tacbandtogether
Capturing your club’s reason for wearing the band is simple. 1. Decide who will talk on behalf of your club and wear the armband. 2. Place the armband around their arm, positioned so the QR code is facing the camera. 3. Film a portrait video of your club rep on any smartphone, talking about their reason for getting involved, and why road safety is important to the club and wider community. It can be a personal story or they can talk generally about wanting safer roads for the community, or a particular issue such as drink driving, driving under the influence of drugs, speeding or fatigue. MACORNA TIGERS AUGU ST 14 VS Q UA M BATO O K Thirds – The lads were all over the moon getting the chance to grace the field once again. We were challenged early on in the game with Murrabit being able to hold us to a 4 goal lead at half time. The side were able to regain composure and come out to dominate the 3rd and 4th quarters showing their class and ability. Awards: MMWFP – Harley Somerville, Barber in Vogue - Xavier Wishart, Coaches Award – Toby Whinfield, MMWFP – Ayden Fletcher, Bennetts Sports – Hunter Anset, Coaches Award – Austin Pearson, Ant Free Socks – Cooper Carmichel and Sam Whinfield Fourths – Out of the blocks the boys had 2 quick goals on the board in the first quarter through teamwork and rewarded running with Cooper and Sam finding the goals.
unturned. The girls are to be commended for trying so hard to stay active while we can’t be together. Looking forward to see who our winners will be and who will be crowned the July Fitness queens. Under 17s – Wow what a game! Strong drives, the talk on the court and positives vibes were all we needed for this terrific win to secure our spot for the finals. You girls make me proud every week. Keep believing in yourselves and in your ability, that’s all I ask. Awards went to every single player for never dropping their heads and never giving up. You girls rock! Our under 14 girls played a great game today. We didn’t get the win, but as always they played their hearts out and it
The gap was closed in the second quarter and maintained in the third. The backline was strong with some great marks and ball movement from Cooper Lacy and Tom. A great team effort. Awards: Cooper Lacy – MMWFP, Tom Gready – MRW Speech, Jacoby Tonkin – Wilson transport, Rivers Webb – Tonkin Cash Senior Netballers - With covid ruining our fun again this year the senior netballers have been partnered up by living location for a fitness challenge. As usual with the Tiger girls competition has been fierce and no stone has been left

QUAMBATOOK AUGU ST 14 VS M AC O R N A Netball B Grade The girls had one mission last weekend, turn the tables and come out on top, and that they did! You wouldn’t know that this was only the second game this 7 have played together if you watched how well they work together on court. The ball flowed so well down the court from the Boyd’s in defence to Kasey in goals. Hopefully the girls can keep the wins coming this weekend! Awards: K.Bennett- Exchange Hotel E.Boyd- Mystic Park Hotel
D.Boyd - Mallee Physio
B Reserve What a close game this one was! This team is improving week after week, it’s hard to believe that it’s majority of the teams first year of netball.
The girls dug deep and gave their all right until the end, not letting Moulamein’s style of play stop them from playing their game. Hannah was a welcomed addition into our mid court, having no issues feeding the ball into the ring. Meanwhile at the opposite end of the court, Marley was the perfect match for her goalie, getting plenty of intercepts! Awards: M.Meade- Mystic Park Hotel
H.Spencer - Exchange Hotel
Football Reserves With a few more players available last week it was a better performance from the two’s though they couldn’t keep up with Moulamein. Jai, Kyle and Kobi worked hard in defence while Joel covered plenty of ground to get to each contest . Great to see Woody pull on the jumper and show he’s still got the ability . Heppa did well in the ruck and snagged a goal as well . Best players: J Bremner, J. Greenhill, Ryan, Lakey, Kobi and Heppa. Seniors What an awesome 4 quarter performance from the seniors last week. A 6 goal first quarter set the tone with Butty booting three. The defensive work of Crusher, Davo and Co was first rate, never giving their opponents a chance. Dylan hit the contest hard and Tobie played with dash and flair. Jonty did a great job in the ruck while Rick and Gregor broke the lines and drove the ball forward. The boys kept pushing hard right to the end to record a 14 goal win. How good did the NAIDOC jumpers look? Great job Tobie Goals: J.Butty 7, W.Collicoat 3, R. Wild 2, M. Bradbury 2, A. Barclay 2, C. Williams 1 ,C. Kendall 1, T. Cameron 1, A. Cook 1. Best players: T. Cameron, J. Taylor, J. Butty, T. Ramadge, M. George, R. Wild.

HAY LIONS AUGU ST 14 VS WA N D E L L A Under 17s
amazing game and didn’t stop giving 100% as well the
Hay 37 defeated Moulamein 29 Junior Hay Lions netball resumed on Saturday with a trip to Moulamein for the Hay girls. After a three week break the girls might have been rusty but consistent efforts at training paid off with the girls jumping to a 9 goal lead at quarter time as forwards Skye Lilburne (Hay Calisthenics) and Ruby Cattanach were dominant in the highest scoring quarter of the season. Moulamein responded but defenders Emma Johnson and Dimity McLean kept things tight until Dim went down with a knee injury. A six goal lead at half time, meant the girls had to switch back on and that’s what they did as Katie Howard (Hay Newsagency) at centre and mid court partners Janee Davies and Alice Caldow got more competitive and ran hard to create opportunities, and Emily Caughey backing up after playing 14s held her own at GK. The last quarter saw Hay hold on to their lead as Olivia Huggins on debut in the 17s defended well, to see the Hay girls run out comfortable winners in a solid win.

MURRABIT AUGU ST 14 VS M OU L A M E I N Parker Bray managed to snag a late goal to put us back in front and take his total to 3 for the day. Unfortunately, the strong midfield for Nullawil managed to secure the next clearance to then propel the ball forward and kick an answering goal to win the match. Sam Copland and Riley Carse continue their great year. Award Winners: Sam Copland, Riley Carse, Lachlan Maher, Parker Bray, Chase Coutler and Cooper Hein It was great to have Jonah and Bohden, both very skillful players playing in the royal blue and we wish them all the best for the rest of the year in at Kerang. Despite their efforts along with familiar names in Archer McKnight, Sam Copland, Tom Leahy and Ben Maher, Nullawil proved too strong. Award Winners: Thomas Leahy, Archer McKnight, Ryleigh Wilkinson, Noah Shea & Bailey Bujdoso. With scores level at half time, coach Nick Hein pleaded with his troops to lift their workrate and pressure across the field in the second half. The players responded kicking 8 goals to 4 in the second half to win a good contest. Nugget was fantastic through the middle backed up by Nick Hein and Darcy Gillen down back. Award Winners: Blake Wilkinson, Kaine O’Connell,, Darcy Gillen & Rhys Neville The seniors competed well early and thanks to strong work in the ruck from Ben Gillingham and through the midfield Marc O’Neil and Brodie Green were able to hit the scoreboard a couple of times. There was plenty of work to be done by the defenders with Josh Bray and Michael Grant able to restrict the home team to less than 30 goals. Award Winners: Nathan Henry, Ben Gillingham “Sean Gillen” & Toby Gray.
Netball U12 awards, Alexis, Lyla, Eliza, Macy, Freya and Ivy. The 14s were up against the top of the ladder Nullawil team and were made to work hard for their goals. Best went to Immy Cummins who was lovely to watch in goals and even turned her hand to C in the end, as well as Belle Morton and Alison Copland.. Our under 17s had their work cut out for them coming up against the top side like the 14s. Jessie Teasdale pulled in some nice intercepts and put great pressure on her goalie and Sarah Copland covered the court beautifully with intercepts in defence and offering drives in attack. The B grade was the first of the senior matches and set the tone for the rest of the day. Nully had an early lead but some positional changes at half time which saw Emily Copland (Harperbay bistro) switched from defence into goals really sparked the team up and they had a brilliant last quarter to run over the top of Nullawil. Sarah Perry was another notable performer, reading the play well and cutting off many balls. The B res game followed much the same pattern as the B grade with the girls neck and neck with Nully before just pulling ahead in the final quarter. Sharni Maher remained strong under close marking defence and Teish Nethercote showed maturity beyond her years of netball by shooting consistently no matter how much pressure she was under. The A grade concluded the day with a draw. The game could have gone either way in the last couple of minutes. Best went to Lauren Morrow for her constant work in attack and Kalinda Stanton for creating numerous turnovers in defence, pulling in some great overhead balls.

NULLAWIL AUGU ST 14 VS U LT I M A Nullawil Football/Netball Notes – Round 10 On a fine winter’s day at Nullawil we took on Murrabit, with a mixed spread of results throughout the day from the football and netball games. The Under 14’s was played in slippery conditions with the footy oval resembling an ice-skating rink during the morning. The game was a cracker though, and at half-time the scores were level. Both teams traded goals in the second half, but a few more scoring shots saw us take out the win 7.9-51 to 7.547, a great win against a top 4 team! Tiger and Tynan were the main goal-kickers with two each. Better players were S.Kelly, T.Vearing, M.Fawcett, B.Kelly and L.Cooper. The Under 17’s put on a clinic, taking out a big win 128-point win. Paddy Kelly was a welcome inclusion back into the team, kicking 8 goals, while George slotted 7 of his own. All boys played well throughout the game, with the better players being M.Hogan, P.Kelly, S.Kelly, D.Kelly and C.Fawcett The Reserves battled hard against the ladder leaders, with the scores all tied up at the main break. However, we let our chances of a top 2 finish slip in the second half as Murrabit kicked away to take out a 26-point win. With a couple of key forwards missing, the goals were evenly spread. Better players were L.Whitbourne, A.McGrath, D.Kelly, M.Hogan, J.Morrison and J.Vearing. The Seniors put on another excellent display of team football, with winners across every line. Eleven players hit the scoreboard this week, with Farmer being the leading goalkicker with 7. Andrew Casey continued his excellent form around the goals slotting 5. The final siren saw us take out
a convincing 151-point win. Better players were M.Quigley, Z.Kelly, J.Humphreys, M.Farmer, C.Streeter and K.Doran. NETBALL Once again, the little girls led the way with a big win against the blues. Lana Fawcett played a ripper of a game and was awarded with the Nully towel. Nullawil 57 def Murrabit 26 The under 17’s have set the bar high all season and are a very tightly knitted team. Once again Bella Gilchrist had her eye in and goaled with confidence. Verity Rafter was strong at defence and was making it hard for her opponent. Nullawil 66 def Murrabit 16. Next it was the seniors and it felt like finals time, the crowds swarmed in and weren’t disappointed by the next three games. Nullawil and Murrabit are at the top of the ladders and it was game on. The B grade went down by 4 in a very physical game. Our veteran Janelle Hogan went down which gave the blues that edge. Nullawil 42 def by Murrabit 46 The B Reserve had a great game with the lead changing throughout the quarters. Another veteran Joanne Scott was brilliant all game. Nullawil 35 def by Murrabit 37 The A Grade game was the most anticipated game of the day and what a thriller it was ….. a draw! Well done girls on a great team effort. Maddi Smith was named best who had a great tussle with the league’s best goaler Lauren Morrow. Scores 36 apiece.

ULTIMA AUGU ST 14 VS N U L L AW I L Ultima netball record notes from Round 10 12&Under Ultima 41 Hay 6 A big thank you to Scarlet and Emily for hanging around to play with us as we were short. Great to see all the girls giving 100%. Awards went to Macklyn Hender and Milla McCann. 14&Under Ultima 37 Hay 23 Well done girls, it was a nice game and you have all come a long way. Awards went to Indi O and Maddy. 17&Under The team combined strongly to get themselves back on the winners list 45-31. Best players were Isis Davidson and Verity Oliver. B Reserve Ultima 40 Hay 43 An almost mirror image of our previous game against Hay where they came up and got the win in the final
quarter. Khodi Gilbert and Tonya McKenzie were our game day award winners. Khodi played an incredible role for us in her preferred position of WD and she just did not stop. Tonya was unstoppable throughout the game and played well. B Grade Ultima 38 Hay 41 Close game today. Everyone did their roles, but we just couldn’t maintain it consistently, with small things coming undone for us in the end. Awards went to Chaz and Bee. A Grade Ultima 47 Hay 19 The girls responded to last week’s loss better than ever and were able to put together 4 solid quarters. Our centre court worked hard in defence with Jac, Tess and Brooke able to create turnovers and our goalies were able to capitalise with shots dropping our way. Our defenders were as reliable as ever.
