WORDS FROM OUR CLUBS WO O R I N E N
Welcome back to Tigerland for season 2021! It is extremely exciting to have community sport returning and we look forward to enjoying the social interactions that only a sporting club can bring. It seems like a lifetime ago that we were all together celebrating the 2019 A Grade and Senior football premierships, the netball and football grades had a huge summer and have put the work in to give ourselves the best chance at being around the mark at the pointy end of the season. It is a long season, they are too hard to win, so much must go right, so good luck defending your titles! The WFNC would like to wish a successful and enjoyable season to not only all other clubs, but the Central Rivers Board. It is wishful thinking to have a season where it all runs smoothly at board or club level, it is a hard job to take on with so many participants. To everyone who is actively involved in your club/board level, you should be proud of what you do, hopefully there is reward for effort along the way. Thank you to our Major Sponsors- VF Siciliano, Advanced packaging/Opal and Morpeth Farms. A huge shout out to our sponsorship group who supported our club last year and to back it up this season through difficult times, we are incredibly grateful to have such an amazing group of sponsors! A lot has changed over the last 18 months at Tigerland. The tiger baby factory went out of control, with 17 babies and still 4 more on the way! There were also 3 weddings, and we have 2 engagements as well! Covid was a busy time!

Welcome to all our new and returning players today and your families. We trust that you will enjoy your
time at Tigerland and create lifelong memories and friends! Craig Threadgold again is President, and what a job he does, the power of work behind the scenes through the COVID situation was remarkable, and everyone should thank him for his work, and his trusty assistant Greta! He is ably assisted by a strong and motivated committee, thanks to those that have given up their time to administer our club. Thank you to all the members who have given up their time to be a volunteer this year, it is crazy the numbers that is required every Saturday to simply allow the players the opportunity to play. We encourage all parents and family members to be active, get involved and find a way to do one task and make our club the best that it can be. Thank you to the Football Department and Netball Committee who have organised everything behind the scenes in readiness for this season. To all the coaches that have jumped on to lead the club, we trust that you will be supported and enjoy your time as a coach and hope that there is some success at the pointy end of the season! The 200 club is officially locked in, our exclusive club generates a steady income for the club that allows us to run a raffle free club which takes a lot of pressure off our fundraising! Who will win the $10,000 this season???? Our condolences to the extended Smith family on the passing of two of our most cherished life members, Bud and Helen. Helen with her massive laugh and cheeky nature, and Bud, the ultimate gentleman, everything a man would want to be. Both will be missed terrible at Tigerland! I hope it is an enjoyable and successful year to all the players and volunteers,
GO TIGERS!!

PROUDLY SUPPORTING COUNTRY VICTORIANS VWA 1007_FootyRecord_210x148_Football_CMYK_V3.indd 1 WorkSafe is proud to once again support AFL
Vic Country for the much-anticipated 2021 season. We have been closely associated with country football and netball since 2002 and it’s a partnership we are passionate about, as it plays such a significant role in the health, safety and wellbeing of regional and rural communities. For many country Victorians weekends centre around going to the local ground to watch the football and netball. It unites communities with common purpose, and it helps everyone stay connected. After a year of being socially isolated from family, friends, colleagues and team-mates, this has never been more important. Together we need to re-establish those connections and look out for the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone in our community. This year WorkSafe will continue to work alongside local clubs and leagues to promote workplace safety, so we can ensure all workers make it home and get to do the things they love, like playing sport each and every day. When our workers are safe, we’ll see them on the field. We’ll see them on the court. Or we’ll see them on the sidelines. In country areas we know a large part of staying safe at work is staying safe on farms. Sadly we know far too many workers are being killed or seriously injured on farms every year.

WorkSafe’s new agriculture campaign “It’s never you, until it is” shows how easily an ordinary day can turn to tragedy and how small decisions can have life-changing consequences.
6/04/2016 4:20 PM This isn’t about us telling farmers and those in the agriculture industry what to do, but reminding them that accidents can and do happen.
We want to change the bullet-proof attitudes that many farmers have, that an accident, serious injury or fatality will not happen to them. That an ordinary day can turn to tragedy and have life-changing consequences for the farmer, workers, family and the farm’s future. WorkSafe can’t do this alone, that’s why we value this partnership so much. When the season was cancelled last year because of COVID-19, we put in place an alternative WorkSafe Country Club Challenge. This created a space to allow clubs to still engage with each other and the wider community. But it didn’t fully replace the comraderie and of course the fierce competitiveness of playing against each other every weekend. We look forward to again embracing that competitive spirit and to meeting you at a Country Club Game throughout the season and through the @CountryClubHub group on Facebook. We are here to support you and our Club Safety Fund offers financial support to clubs who have initiatives to make their players and supporters safer. Because when we work together we can get the message out that workplace safety is everyone’s responsibility. COLIN RADFORD CHIEF EXECUTIVE WORKSAFE VICTORIA

KOONDROOK BARHAM M AY 1 VS N YA H N YA H W E ST U N I T E D Well after after a couple of honourable losses the Raiders senior team finally come good against the Lake Boga Magpies to get a win on the board. For the Ressy’s the news was not so good as although they battle hard all day they couldn’t get the points. To make matters worse our young Colts who scored a great win against the Cohuna Kangas the previous week couldn’t get their game going at all against a much superior opposition and also lost. I see the A Grade netballers run come to a grinding halt also, albeit by one lousy point, never mind girls you will make amends this weekend I’m sure of it!. Awards for the Senior game went to Kal Huntly (Raiders “Man of the Day”, good to see Kal back on the track and as always plays a hard running game for his team. I might add this win was a huge team effort as all players contributed on the day. Jake Dick O’Flaherty (Royal Hotel Barham), how good a year is Dicko having, his skill level, endurance on the field and ability to read the play stands him in good stead week in, week out. Phil Smith (Barham Hotel), Phil gets better each week and his running off half back is exceptional and I reckon he loves to kick a goal, and Jarryd Wishart (Nthn Tree Fellas), good to see our captain back on the field and he lead by example all over the ground. The Auction Player went to Jake Dick O’Flaherty. The Ressy’s couldn’t get the points which was probably a disappointing effort but then again the number of players that were missing no doubt contributed to the loss. Good chance to get back on the winners list this week fellas so get behind Chubby and his assistants and
it will happen. The Awards went to Rylan Attwell (Wes Hare Spraying “Scooby of the Day”), another good game from young Rylan who has made the step up with no problem. Scott Wishart (Royal Hotel Barham), good effort from Scott in defence as he repelled many attacks from the Boga team. Luke Fulton (Barham Hotel), Chubby leads from the front and did everything he could to get his team on the front foot but as stated before his team was severely undermanned. Andy Edwards (Raiders Canteen award), and the Auction Player went to Rylan Attwell. The Colts well, talk about a Jekyll and Hyde team, obviously a bit undermanned but think they were also outplayed by a much superior team, they are a lot better than the scoreboard indicated and I’m sure they will bounce back this weekend to redeem themselves. The Awards went to Ned Mathers (Royal Hotel Barham), young Ned tried his heart all day, Trinity Starr (Don Taylor Pen), Trinity continues to play good footy and is having a good year so far, Jack Lake (Lane Electrical Socks), young Jack played his best game for the year and is set for a good season now that he has got his mojo going, and Lachy Laursen (Wilma Bott Canteen Award). This Saturday we return to Raiders Central to take on the Nyah Utd Demons, more tough games for all grades in footy and netball, but when you are winning you have to keep the momentum going. NYAH NYAH WEST UNITED M AY 1 VS KO O N D RO O K BA R H A M We had our first home game for the season last week with some mixed results across both football and netball. It was also good to show off our new netball courts for their first games ever. This week we travel to Barham and get to see the new facilities for the Raiders. FOOTBALL RESULTS Seniors: NNWU 3.7.25 lost to Swan Hill 12.17.89 After the disappointing effort in the first round, the seniors displayed a more determined effort last week against the Swans. However, some basic errors led to goals for the Swans which made our task very hard. Despite the final score, there were promising signs throughout the game to show what the team has been working on can work well if we stick at it. This week’s game against the Raiders gives us a chance to test ourselves against another quality opposition and continue our improvement as a side. Reserves: NNWU 12.5.77 defeated Swan Hill 5.4.34 The Reserves played a good brand of footy against a very good Swans side to come away with a pleasing win. It was good to see a few more players on the ground for their first game for the year – they’ll be better for the run. Colts: NNWU 9.16.70 defeated Swan Hill 5.5.35 In their first game of the year, the Colts played some very good football and show that they will be very competitive this year. However, coaches Joel & Ethan may have to work on the team’s goal kicking after some inaccuracy in front of goals. Under 14.5: NNWU 9.2.56 defeated Swan Hill 5.3.33 The Under 14.5’s continued with their good form with another strong performance against Swan Hill. The game was a very even contest for most of the game, with both sides playing attractive footy. We were fortunate to be able to kick accurately to record a
win. Under 12: NNWU vs Swan Hill Our youngest footballers kicked the day off with excellent support from the parents. The level of footy from both sides was quite good, with further improvement from our team. Coaches Award – Maverick Bird; Koraleigh Store – Max Thompson; Growtek – Jarrah Edge; Classic Fish Shop – Mitty McInnes; Club socks – Jase Thomson NETBALL RESULTS A tough day on the courts for most of the netballers with only one win, but the junior netballers are showing some promise. A Grade: NNWU 41 Swan Hill 62 Best players: Gemma Hendy & Denise Snyder A Res: NNWU 27 Swan Hill 57 Best player: Emma Wilson B Grade: NNWU 30 Swan Hill 36 Best player: Amy Fulton B Res: NNWU 27 Swan Hill 16 Best player: Charneah Threadgold Under 16: NNWU 18 Swan Hill 59 Best player: Daisy Grigg Under 14: NNWU 11 Swan Hill 12 Best player: Marli Roberts Under 12: NNWU 5 Swan Hill 19 Best player: Ruby Butler SOCIAL NEWS Thanks to the Junior Netballers who catered for our meals last weekend. Plenty was fun was held after tea with the Anything But Cups Night with some weird and wonderful items used for drinking out of. Congratulations to the senior coach Corey for having his song come out last on the iPod shuffle. After the games today, we head back to the Swan Hill Club for our awards and a meal. Keep track of the upcoming social events on the club’s Facebook page. Good luck to all football and netball teams today.

All the girls played a fast hard game for 4 quarters. Cohuna threw everything they had at them and in the last 10 minutes got the lead back. But it was short lived, and the girls dug deep to take the win by 3. Con-gratulations to everyone. This week’s awards went to; Remi Macri, Bree Cordina and Kirby Bott. A Res Kerang 45 def by Cohuna 48 Excellent game girls. We fought hard to close the gap in the last quarter, and worked hard. We took a little bit to warm up, but once we did, we improved greatly! Excellent work girls. Let’s work hard at training and improve our game for next week. This week’s award went to; Sophie Martins. A Grade Kerang 48 def Cohuna 37 Congratulations a real solid four quarter win. Team played a strong attacking and defensive game. Confident game by Emma Wright. This week’s award went to; Emma Wright (Royal Hotel Kerang ) .A tough day last weekend with mixed results against Arch Rivals Cohuna on their home turf. Seniors suffered some injuries early in the game and left us with only one player on the bench for most of the game. Cohuna looked like a strong well drilled team and will be a tough side to beat this year. Reserves had a tough close fought game and went down by a few goals. It is a very young side and has a lot of players to come back into the team so should continue to improve each week. We welcome Lake Boga today and wish all teams the best of Luck. After the game this weekend we have our Progressive dinner happening which should be an enjoyable night for all involved.

LAKE BOGA M AY 1 VS K E R A N G MAGPIE NATION, Another successful weekend back at home. Besides our senior boys, teams enjoyed a great Saturday of sport and topped off with a great social event!
break and continued to increase their lead as the game progressed. They continued to apply the pressure in the second half of the game to win by 32 in a strong performance. B Res In a shower of goals, KB were too strong in the first with a 17 to 10 in the first 15 minutes. As the game progressed, our girls were able to stay with them as they fought hard, but the 10 goals was the difference made in the first quarter.
U12’s A robust win and the song was sung with gusto. U14.5’s The reigning premiers hit their strides and had a convincing first win for the season. \ Colts - Another shellacking of the opposition in a finely tuned demolition displaying great execution of coach’s instructions. Reserves game saw an overflow and boiling amount of testosterone for all four quarters with the Boga boys soundly defeating the Raiders in both skill and physicality. Absolutely fantastic to see some passion erupt. Seniors- A slow start but still in touch saw a comeback in the third quarter give a parochial crowd a real taste of the excitement our team is capable of but was snuffed out pretty quick in the last quarter. Netball: A Grade Boga trailed by 3 after the first 15 minutes and worked hard in the second to take the lead at half time. KB came back in the third to outscore us 10-7 to set up a thriller for the last 15 minutes. And a thriller is what it was as in a goal shoot out as we scored 12 to 9 to win the game by just 1 goal for their fist win of the season. A Res – No Game B Grade In a great team effort, Boga lead by 11 at the halftime
18 & U As the game started it looked like it was going to be a tight contest, with our girls leading by just two. However in the second, Boga kept them score less as they added 11 to eventually win the game by 16. 16 & U Our girls were too strong for their opponents as they kept them to just 12 for the game. A number of changes were made in positions and showed that they can adapt and keep the pressure up. Well done. 14 & U Such a close game with the scores even after the first quarter and KB taking a two goal lead at half time. Despite being able to outscore them in the third, 4 to 2, our girls fell short by 2 in a hard fought contest. 12 & U There may not have been many goals scored, but it was a great game to watch in a nail-biter. All the girls played well as the coach made changes to show the versatility of being able to play in a number of positions. Still getting the wins on the board and hopefully will continue on our trip to Kerang this week. Keep on the wagon and behind our great teams. I’m sure results for our senior boys are a certainty down south as it will be again for our senior girls.

MALLEE EAGLES M AY 1 V TO O L EY BUC - M A N A N GATA N G It was great to see all the Blue & Gold supporters out in force last Saturday for the first time in 2021!
As every club knows, volunteers are the heart beat that keeps clubs ticking, how are you helping us out???
Congratulations to the majority of Football and Netball teams who all had a win, great way to start the season.
We still have roles within the club that we need filling, if you can help us out please do, the more the merrier as they say!
One down point was the knee injury suffered by Leah McDonald, I know I speak for everyone when I say we wish you a speedy recovery Leah! You will no doubt be of great assistance to Coach Vicki throughout the rest of the season. Now we move on to our first home game this week against Tooleybuc / Manangatang. The weather is set to be warm, which means both the Netball and Football players will be raising a sweat, but it should make for good standard games all round. I know the farmers are starting to look up at the sky, but it is always good to have fine weather for home games. A special mention to two of our senior players who last week notched up milestones. Wes Bennett Jnr reached 200 senior games and Jacob "Mapple" Wade reached 150 senior games - Congratulations to both boys!!!
Please check your emails, if you are on a roster please turn up on time and help things run smoothly. A special call out to one of our best and longest serving stalwarts of the club, Janet McGregor. Janet has been a tremendous volunteer for the Blue & Golds for many decades, holding down many different roles over that time. It is hard to do Janet justice in a few words, but it is because of the efforts of people like Janet that clubs like ours still exist today when many others are no longer around. This year our Canteen has a new Manager in Maree Kingwill, who with the stock control assistance of Katrina Meehan, will continue on the great service given by Janet. We all hope that Janet can enjoy watching her Grandsons play footy this year and no doubt pass on some good advice. From everyone at our Club we say - Thank You!!!

TOOLEYBUC-MANANGATANG M AY 1 VS M A L L E E E AG L E S Today we head down to Lalbert in what is shaping as a tough start to the season for all teams. Last weekend the seniors put in a spirited performance & through their accurate kicking ensured the losing margin stayed under triple figures. Best players – Shaun Jackson, Murray Ogle, Mitchell Ferrie, Thomas Carland & Billy Bentley. Mallee Physio Award – Murray Ogle. Cub made a triumphant return to footyin the ressies however his heroics down back weren’t enough to get on the boys on the board. Awards: Tooleybuc Sporting Club – Stephen Lyons, Swan Hill Packaging – Jonathan Chislett, Mallee Physio – Ayden Burness, Amaretto Almonds – Ryan O’Shannassy. The colts had arguably the match of the day in the end just falling short to a quality tigers outfit. Awards: West Farmers Insurance – Mackie Rogers, Sunrise Ag – Ryan Domaille, Mallee Physio – Seth Paton, Pooles – Anyueer Majur. The U14’s battled hard all game against a very strong tigers team. Awards: JA Electrical – Ashby Rogers, Pearsons Grain – Linc Benfield, West Farmers Insurance – Connor Hazlett, Subway – Josh Burford. The U12’s once again bucked the trend & put in the best performance of the
day with everyone putting in a great effort. Awards: GoFarm – Jules Muir, Truck Specialist – Jasper Plant, Pearsons Grain – Cal Muir, Subway – Jacob Zanker. This week’s Manang Hotel Auskick award went to Charlie Murdoch. Netball Notes: Our 12 and under girls had a tough match against a much more experienced opposition. The girls worked hard and smiled all day. Alyssa Rogers had an outstanding work rate, giving her best all day. The girls continued to practice the skills we have been learning at training. The 14’s experienced an exciting first win for the season. Their progress has been tremendous, allowing them to combine well across the court. The award went to Ally Grace, whose presence and encouragement of her teammates was admirable. The girls continue to impress with their dedication to training and willingness to learn new skills. The U16’s vocality this week, amongst other things, lead them to another great result. The goalies worked well, feeders passed with confidence and our defensive duo, Ella and Emily, applied constant pressure. Summer was awarded with BOC. B Res welcomed Jess, who brought lots of athleticism to the side. It was a well
fought game against a very experienced Woorinen, with lots of positional changes that paid off with some exciting passages of play. Olivia Wilson was awarded the main award and a special mention to Steph Paddon, who both provided assistance down the court. B Grade had a tough game, but the coaching panel were very impressed with the girls’ willingness to change up positions and play out of position. And despite the score line there were some promising passages of play. Worner won the award for her “never give up” attitude. It was a tough game for A Res, but they definitely put up a good fight! A week to explore versatility and different combinations. Great effort from all girls, no matter their position. Emma Temp putting on a clinic in defence and showing us that she may not be tall, but she can snag an intercept, or 7. The outcome of last week’s game doesn’t reflect how the game was played out. The girls showed some really promising signs, including winning the second quarter. Peyton Oliver stood strong in attack, whilst Laura and Taylen were a power house and worked tirelessly in defence.

SWAN HILL M AY 1 VS BA L R A N A L D Last week saw some great games of football and netball and thanks to Nyah for hosting us last weekend in the beautiful sunshine.
have had a good start to the season. They come up against strong opposition in the Roos today. Best players were Hayley Neushafer and Karli Mcintyre.
This week we welcome Balranald for what should be competitive games on the court/field.
Football Despite being undersized the U12s played very well against Nyah and improved on the week before. Award winners Lucas Germaine (McDonalds), Ethan Germaine (Kip McGrath), Sam Brown (Canteen), Jimmy Kelly (Thurs Night Meal), Cooper Graham (Senior Football award). After an impressive effort the week before the U14.5s went down against Nyah in a disappointing display but they will be hoping to bounce back this week. Award winners Wil Bennett (Thurs night meal), Koby McMillan (Senior football), Sonny Beasy (Canteen), Sascha Retsas (Pearsons) and Darcy Uebergang (McDonalds). The colts were a lot more competitive last week against Nyah. They have the week off this week. Award winners Will Garvie (senior Football), Makwi Dhelbei (Pearsons), Blaize Parsons (Pizza Kitchen), Jem Sibley (Thurs night tea) and McKenzie Kelly (Canteen). The reserves were well beaten again and are not playing up to their potential. They will look to get on the winners list today against Balranald. Best players Tom Spicer, Brendan Blackmore, Aiden Grinham, Angus Monk, Riley Brennan and Brenton Caldwell. Beer club award to Tom Spicer. The seniors started very well, had a down 3rd quarter but come again in the last to run out convincing winners to go 2-0 for the season. Mitch Makepeace hanger was a great highlight! Best players Toby Thoolen, Oscar Lewis, Tom Pontell, Josh Anderson, Cooper Angus and Tom Holdstock. Beer club award to Oscar Lewis and congrats to Tom Pontell on his first senior game for the Swans.
Last Friday night we hosted our sponsors at the Fed to thank them for their support of the club. It was a great night and for all our members – please support the sponsors who support us. Tonight is an event not to be missed – the rotating dinner. Always a great night and even better this year as we missed it last year! To last week’s results: Netball The 12 & under side had a 19-5 victory with young players playing well. Pizza Kitchen awards went to Sarah Vroljiks and Daneaka Neauschafer. The 14 and under match was a nail biter with Swan Hill winning by one point. Milan Arentz shot a goal 30 seconds before the siren to secure victory. Pizza Kitchen award to Xarliah Parsons and McDonalds award to Jaya Jenkins-Jaiswal. 16 and under side played a very good game of netball and won convincingly. Club award to Gabby Atkinson and Pearsons award to Grace Doherty. B Reserve tried hard all day but went down in the end against the Demons. Awards Teagan Hore (Aspire Jewellery) and Meg Garvie (Beauty Spot). B Grade had a 6 point victory in a high standard game of netball. Better players for the Swans were the coach Romaney Kennedy (Paper Scissors Rock) and Sam Uebergang (Bean Hopper). Congrats to Georgia Craig-Neal for her first game of senior netball. A reserve had a convincing win last week. Award winners were Scarlett Sheldrick and Olivia Scarce. A grade also performed well and

Good luck to all the teams today against the kangas. The netball has some tight games scheduled, with most grades having teams in the top 5 after the first 2 rounds. The Football looks tight across all grades as well, but we should see the game of the year so far in the seniors, with the emerging Kangas who have recruited amazingly looking to keep their season rolling well against our boys. Will be a test to see where we are at in 2021.
Reserves: T/M 0.5.5 vs Woor 17.13.115
Should be a fascinating day in all grades!
Best Players Adam Hendy, Zac Cattlin, Jamie Nicholas, Tim Gammon and Harry Hoarcourt with 8 goals.
GO TIGERS!!
Have a great day

COHUNA KANGAS M AY 1 VS WO O R I N E N It was a big day for our first home game v Kerang, & we thank all our terrific volunteers for making it a huge success. FOOTBALL NOTES: U/12 Football - Better game this week with Ami Murray kicking three goals a great defensive effort by all. True sportsmanship showed, with coaches deciding to share some of our players around. U/14 Football – The boys come out hard kicking goals and being 1st to the ball. After a good talking to, the Kangas start to wake up and end up winning by 64 points. Colts Football - Another tough day at the office for the Colts. If it wasn’t for the efforts of the backline and our midfielders the margin would have been a lot worse. Our first half was quite competitive however we ran out of legs in the second half. Reserves Football - Started the game inaccurately to be down ayt Half time. A strong 3rd qtr 5 goals to 1, seen the boys in front at 3 Qtr time. The last quarter was an arm wrestle with no goals either side, so we managed to hold on for a 16point win.
Senior Football – This game was played at a fast pace with a high skill level for most of the game, and was an enthralling contest from Start to finish. Our guys were able to put a bit of a gap on Kerang in the second Qtr, and held that margin until the end of the game.
up all game. Defence was tight and when talk was up the intercepts were coming. B Reserve Kangas 83 def Kerang q19
NETBALL NOTES:
Our girls came out determined to limit Kerang’s use of the ball. Our first quarter score was 25 – 1 and we just kept our foot to the floor.
12 & Under Kangas 7 lost to Kerang 37
B Grade Kangas 54 def Kerang 45
Another tough game against a very tall Kerang. Girls had a great 4 quarters, highlighted by improvements in goals from all our goalers today.
We all came out guns blazing and didn’t stop until the final whistle. Our goalies and midcourt worked quick and very well together. Our tall defence working well also to intercept and rebound. Well done girls.
14 & Under Kangas 15 lost to Kerang 57 We came up against another very tall and fast team. The whole team were playing very close marking netball but, in the end, Kerang were very accurate. 16 & Under Kangas 45 def Kerang 24 A hard fought game to eventually come away with the win. The game was a little scrappy in parts and gave us some things to improve on in the coming weeks. 18 & Under Kangas 50 lost to Kerang 53 It was a very tough day for the girls today, as they ended up going down by only 3 goals. The girls kept their heads
A Reserve Kangas 48 def Kerang 45 A physical game for the goalies, we kept our heads strong which was amazing to see. our defenders did a great job, lots of taps and intercepts, giving us the turn overs we needed to take home our first win. A Grade Kangas 37 lost to Kerang 48 We were quick off the blocks and got off to a great start. Again, our defensive pressure was amazing. Kerang were fantastic defensively and the pressure overwhelmed us a little, which resulted in an 11 goal loss.

Fourths – Unofficial game
We had all 8 of our players today and they all did an amazing job. The improvements were seen by the coaches and all the supporters on the side lines, with lots of comments and praise after the game of how well they all played. Kristy picked our awards for us this week.
The U14.5’s had a good game against Quambatook, we were able to lend them some players and this gave an opportunity for everyone to get some good game time. There were great signs going into next week, with some exciting ball movement, terrific handballing and structured plays. Notable mentions to Harry and Austin for kicking their first goals. There were no awards given this week, but good players included the Nicholson brothers, Tonkin brothers and the Lacy Brothers. Lets all be switched on for the next game being Nullawil.
Abbey Wishart - Wood Fire Pizza, Eviee CarmichaelDonated by Tiff Bartram Bres A bit of a slow start for us this week, which quickly turned into a 16 goal win. The great defensive efforts of Brianna caused many turn overs and heaps of opportunities for us. Yasmin was clever at both ends, getting intercepts for us in GK then switching beautifully to goals. Robyn and Kylie also came on strong and played their roles. We now face Nully undefeated, a position we haven’t been in for a while! Will be great to see how we go against some of the best, fingers crossed we can continue our great form. Awards: Dee family: Bri Waterson Husk street and surf; Yasmin Harrington B grade Another nail bitter but the girls held their ground and finished strong. In what was a fast, physical game the girls adapted their play to make the ball theirs at every option. The defenders held well all day while the shooters worked together effortlessly. Our mid court smashed it all afternoon with numerous intercepts and sharp passes!
Reserves A great day for the 2s with everyone putting in 110%, awesome effort from everyone involved. Nice to see some new faces. We are up and about, get on it! Best were Mark Carter, Sam Griffo, Kieran Shelley, Paul Lacy, Laffo and Jai. Nice work Lads Seniors Travelling to Quamby which we knew would be a challenge and it was. We were quite competitive up until we lost two players half way through the second which gave Quamby a huge advantage and in the end we couldn’t rain that in. We need to regroup and stick together as we need a huge game against Nully today. Best were Matt Hinkes, Blake Crichton & Jake Macca

NULLAWIL M AY 1 VS M AC O R N A Last Saturday saw us take on Ultima in our now traditional ANZAC clash. The Under 14’s started the day with a competitive match against Ultima, and at half time the game was evenly poised. However, it was the Ultima team who kicked 5 goals to 2 in the second half giving them a 24-point win. Final score Ultima 10.3 – 63 to 5.9 – 39. The Under 17’s kick off their season with a dominate 148-point win, final scores Nully 25.17 – 167 to Ultima 3.1 – 19. The boys played some really good footy across all four quarters. Patrick Kelly was the standout kicking 10 goals, with Tynan Perry snagging 4 goals. The reserves were the biggest winners of the day with the final score being Nully 33.21 – 219 to Ultima’s no score. Michael Spooner was a welcome inclusion into the team, finishing his first game for Nully with 10 goals in a best on ground performance. An ANZAC ceremony was held prior to the commencement of the senior football match. Well done to all involved during this ceremony. The seniors were fired up and ready to go from the first bounce, piling on 7 goals to 1 in the first quarter. The boys played some excellent team football in the second half and ran out convincing winners by 98 points. Final scores Nully 21.18 – 144 to Ultima 6.10 – 46. Farmer had another good day in front of the big sticks kicking 6 goals, while Rylee chipped in with 4 of his own. Mitch Farmer was awarded the best on ground medal. Netball The Under 14’s were that excited for their first game that most were there before the gate keeper.
The girls started off slowly but once their nerves settled it was game on. Monnie was busy all game whilst Lily H kept sending the ball back to goalies Jessie and Tessa who didn’t disappoint. A great start to the season where they will only improve. Ultima 29 d Nullawil 26 The Under 17 girls were on fire and look like a very well-oiled team. Well done girls on a great team effort. Congratulations to Ella Sheahan who will lead the girls as their new captain. Nullawil 60 d Ultima 21 Next was the game of the day where the Nully girls were keen to hang onto the Anzac Cup and this they did. The game started off quite close but by half we had extended our lead by 9. It was goal for goal from then on and this enabled the girls to hold onto the Anzac Cup with pride. Lauren Hogan was Best on Court and was awarded with a medal. Newcomer Meg Hogan is the new captain. Nullawil 42 d Ultima 33 The B Res had players galore and were lucky enough to rotate this very versatile team. Lizzy was strong in goals as was Joey and Holly. Nullawil 59 d Ultima 11 The B Grade were too strong for Ultima, captain Rach played a great game in defence and newcomer Ebonee ran hard all game in the centre and was well supported by Alex who had already played in the A grade. Nullawil 62 d Utima 18 We welcome Ebonee, Meg, Marcia, Elizabeth, Bethany and Maddi to our club and hope you enjoy some success.

ULTIMA M AY 1 VS M OU L A M E I N At home last week we host Nullawil in our annual Anzac round with a good crowd supporting the day and the local RSL. We are honoured to host this event and pay tribute to our current and ex service men and women. Today we travel to Moulamein for what will be a great day of football and netball. We will also join forces with the Swans for “ The Manning Up Cup “ The Manning up cup is a way we can come together as a community to initiate the conversation and break down the stigma surrounding suicide and mental health in men! The purpose of these two clubs being involved is to let anyone know that when they walk through the door to the club and are under the football clubs roof, within the 4 walls that it is a safe place to speak up. Speaking up is Manning up! If we can start the conversation and help someone along the way, if we can take back that stigma and build case to fight the rif raf surrounding mental health, we are well on our way to beating the beast! Both clubs will be wearing green socks in support of this initiative, so please get behind it. On a lighter note, please make sure you enjoy the day whether you win or lose. Go Roos, Roo boy. Ultima Netball- Round 1 12 & Under Although we didn’t win, the girls are showing great improvement already. Our attacking end worked really well today, great job girls. Awards went to Mayla Conway and Maklyn Hender. 14&Under Ultima 29 Nullawil 26 Nice game girls. There’s a bit to work on with our passing and putting a name on the ball. Well done. Awards went to Indi Grey and Maddy McCann.
17&Under Ultima 21 Nullawil 60 The girls fought hard again a talented Nullawil side. Awards went to Verity Oliver and Lily Grey. B Reserve Ultima 21 Nullawil 60 Some big improvements by the girls this week meant the ball moved a little smoother down the court. We had some help and fresh legs provided by Isis Davidson and Molly McGowan from the 17’s, very much appreciated. Awards went to Gemma Symons, Tonya McKenzie, Isis Davidson and Molly McGowan. B Grade Ultima 18 Nullawil 62 It wasn’t our best day. We started very slowly and in small patches we were able to create good patches of play. Looking forward to seeing how we gel together as a full team and a few people returning from injuries. This week’s award went to Megan Bull for being such a strong foundation in defence. A Grade Ultima 33 Nullawil 42 We were able to hold our own for the majority of the game, just being overrun in the end. Every goal was a scrap at both ends and we had some really positive signs that we can take into next week. Awards went to Jac for her determination and creating many turnovers, Lou for her leadership through the defensive and centre thirds, and Grace who was made to work hard for every goal and was able to hold her own and remain accurate.

MURRABIT M AY 1 VS H AY Autumn is a wonderful time of the year and the weather on Saturday was no exception as we headed into NSW for our day out at Moulamein. The U14.5’s played some great football and shared the ball around although Coach Pistol may have some goal kicking drills scheduled for this week after they almost doubled their goals with points. We had multiple goals scorers with Ryleigh, Ky and Zeb finishing with 2 eac.
Netball: The A grade started well with some great defensive work but the energy seemed to flatten out over the remainder of the game and the score didn’t really push out too much. Mary Yates-Ward (Lisa’s rebel card) had a strong game at WD and Chloe Adams (Harperbay bistro) presented beautifully in goals and put in a big last quarter when it mattered.
Our 3rds were once again fronted with a bigger opposition. And as last week, the boys were encouraged to keep the pressure up and follow the game plan. Ashton Wood and Blake Wilkinson were competing at their very best and were clear best on ground candidates. Sam Copland once again scored a goal along with Noah Shea proving their readiness for football at this level.
The B grade put in a dominant performance and took home a percentage boosting win, Grace Gillingham (Kerang carwash) had the moves and the shots in attack while Ashea Bujdoso (Lingenberg voucher) controlled the midcourt and was the important link from defence to attack.
Nick Hein rolled out a few returning and new players week as the reserves took to the field hoping to continue their dominant display of last week. Much to the coaches delight they did as such. Some great work through the middle from Gilla and Josh was well finished off by the Wilkinson duo up forward whilst Jesse, Anders and Macca all had outstanding returns to MFC. Pistol also had an extra spring in his step also for some reason? ) Our senior coaches would be rueing the missed chances late but also pleased with the efforts after being some 6 goals in arrears during the 3rd term. Once again it began well with first use thanks to Big Ben feeding the midfielders who were able to get the ball forward with speed. It was a great contest all day with players applying pressure across the ground and some great passages of play.
B res followed up the round 1 form with an even bigger win last week with a strong team effort providing the goods. Best went to Nic Henry (Rulcifys) who slipped into goals from the midcourt and Kate Hall (TWC) in defence. The under 17’s was the most exciting match of the day, the girls held an 8 goal lead at the final change but Moula fought back to draw level in the closing stages, luckily the girls were able to hold their nerve and score when needed to take the win. Sarah Copland (AB building $10) fought until the end to keep hold of the ball and we welcomed back Georgia Ferguson (JMM socks) who shot beautifully. Under 14’s had a nice win set up with a big 2nd and 3rd quarter. The mid court brigade in Belle Morton (Harvey/ Laursen $10), Alison Copland (Copland $5) and Maddy Walle (chips) were named best.

HAY LIONS M AY 1 VS M U R R A B I T A Grade Hay 34 def Wandella 29 Hay had a solid game against Wandella, its always close and this match was similar.. Wandella came out strong and had gained an 8 point lead at half time. The third quarter Hay knew they had to lift their intensity but play safely and they did. Mel Stewart stepped into GK like she had never been away. Mel with her experience and Olivia Joyce with her keen intercepting skills played a tight game in defence and the combination of Jade Auldist and Ellie Jamieson shooting, with Daisy Barnes feeding the ball into the circle added to the score board significantly, so in the third quarter Hay trailed by only 2 goals. B Grade Wandella 46 def Hay 33 The first two quarters were close with Jade and Hannah shooting some great goals, while Dim and Lani worked hard in defence. Some changes in the third quarter allowed Wandella to make a lead which meant that the Lions had a tough job ahead of them. The final quarter the Lions struggled to catch Wandella’s lead that they had gained from earlier in the game. B Reserve Wandella 46 def Hay 26 Unfortunate loss to the bombers today, but the girls put in some serious effort and for the 1st half of the game they looked like they might have been able to bring it home only trailing by a few. Shooter Trish Jamieson (Harrisons IGA - Best on Court & Players Player) was unstoppable and Verity Auldist (Hannah McGufficke Hairdressing - Coaches Award) in defence kept the shooters on their toes, but the well-seasoned bombers proved too strong. Under 17’s Wandella 54 def Hay 9
The young Lions started the game with plenty of energy with Katie Howard showing strong leadership at the back of the court, Lucy Davies providing quality entries into the forward half from WA and Janee Davies placing great pressure from WD with 5 deflections for the quarter. The second quarter saw Issy Eyre lead strongly proving a real presence at GA while Emily Caughey backing up from the 14s did a good job in the back cutting off Wandella attacks. The third quarter was dominated by Emma Johnston the Lions best for the day, who repelled Wandella’s attack with intercepts, as she had a great game in defence. Under 14’s Wandella 24 def Hay 14 Wandella defeated Hay Despite the perseverance and hard work from Hay, particularly by Emily Caughey (Highway Inn Motel award) in GD and Sophie Tapper (Peter Mullins Building award) in GK. Wandella maintained a steady and increasing lead throughout the game. F Troop Hay Red vs Hay Blue First game of the day we had Hay Red vs Hay Blue on court 1. IIn the red team, we saw some serious up and coming defending in Laila Wilson and Jade Doidge and some glorious shooting by Poppy Barnes in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Some great centre court action from Emma Brown, Bonnie Matthews and Charlie Clarke in made the reds work hard for the ball but the reds just remained too strong. Hay 15 def Wandella 12 We held our home court today to the Wandella Bombers and won 15 to 12. It was a hard fight, but the girls held their ground and Prue Rutledge proved too good for the defence, with some excellent backup from centre Hannah Jamieson, wing attack Emily Taylor and wing defence Rhyla Bunyan.

WANDELLA M AY 1 VS Q UA M BATO O K Lovely day at Hay last week and thanks to the Hay folks for their friendly hospitality. A successful day on the footy field with only the Under 17.5s having a loss after a great effort. The Fourths had a good win and are really starting to gel together. The older boys (who all grew two feet taller during COVID) are playing skillful football.
Under 12s Hay 15 Def Wandella 12
The thirds gave the strong Hay contingent a bit of a head start but the scoreboard didn’t really indicate the quality of the game. Keep at it boys and success will come your way.
Strong game again today with the big trip to Hay. Working on passage of play and holding leads. Great team plays with rotation.
Good result for the reserves winning in a low scoring game. Great effort from the five thirds boys who stepped up and nice to see Johnny Edwards pulling on the boots again. Not sure whose boots they were but a pair that fitted was found! A very entertaining game of footy.
Under 17s Wandella 54 def Hay 9
The seniors had us on the edge of our seats for three quarters in a physical encounter finally nudging ahead in the last quarter for a 6 goal win. Hay are always tough on their home turf but the game was played in great spirit, and thankfully we came out on top. Tim Robinson and Joel Gray were everywhere in defence sending the ball forward. Sam Taylor and Darren Rushton stood strong, and Brad Delamare showed his speed. Justin Robinson kicked six and our accuracy on goal improved from last week.
A Grade Hay 34 def Wandella 29
Round two and we are back in the swing of things.
B Grade Wandella 46 def Hay 33
Well Done to Montana Keating and Emilie Lancaster for making their A Grade debut last week. This week we have welcomed our B Grade coaches, Hayley Higgs and Amy Hollingworth. BIG congratulations for stepping up and taking this on for the season. We would also like to shout out to our junior girls who made it into the interleague teams for the year Under 13s- Coco-Bella Crellin Under 15s – Bainli Galway Under 17s – Montana Keating, Emilie Lancaster and Elly Spencer
Girls played an amazing game. Improving each week and learning skills from trainings and putting into the game. Under 14s Wandella 14 Def Hay 24
The girls played a fantastic game, defense was strong and consistent shooting. All in all a well-oiled machine
A strong defensive game today, with lots of loose balls. A dynamic game down the court. New team, and still trying to find our groove. With the week off next week, we will have a hard week of training and getting back on the court fitter and stronger.
A fantastic game played by all! Defensive end was tight and there was pressure all the way down the court. Attacking end worked well to get it in the ring and the goalies moved and shot brilliantly. Well done girls. B Reserve Wandella 46 def Hay 26 Fantastic defensive game played by the whole team. Everyone worked hard and played a consistent game, which saw them come away with the win.

QUAMBATOOK M AY 1 VS WA N D E L L A Under 12s Fabulous game played by all against Macorna at home. Madden and Dayne played a strong game in defense, getting hands to so many of the oppositions passes. Both players received today’s awards. Thank you to Jack Pilgrim for scoring today’s match. B grade Our girls came out firing after a loss the week before. Janalle Bennett was on fire in the mid court, taking multiple intercepts and feeding into the goalies perfectly. Rylee Koutras was goaling brilliantly this week, sinking them from everywhere! It was a tight fight for the first three quarters but unfortunately the Macorna girls were able to break away in the last quarter and come away with the win. B-Res The girls came out and worked hard as team to try and get a win, they didn’t quite get there but they never gave up! Marie Field played a great game out in GA helping getting the ball down the court and barely missing a goal. Bailie Garnham came on at the second quarter and put the pressure on the Macorna attack.
line of defence were doing well to keep Macorna out and Joel B showed plenty of class around the ground but a 5 goal 3rd quarter by Macorna put the game beyond doubt. Seniors Quamby set the tone for the game in the 1st Quarter kicking 3 goals into the wind and holding Macorna to 1 point. They went on with the job in the 2nd, adding another 7. Jordan Lampi showed plenty of class, Tobie was always in the right place gathering intercept marks and ruckman Michael Bradbury palmed the ball to perfection at the centre ball up. Another 5 goals in the 3rd Quarter and the game was over and though the scoring slowed, Quamby were in complete control. Last but not least QFNC has our social event of the year, our Shearing Shed Ball, next Saturday 8th May. Tickets: Rhys (0400 453 820) and Eboni (0437 692 769).
Under 14’s Football is in for a big year, the spirit and enthusiasm is there we are just lacking a few numbers. The kids are really enjoying getting out and having a kick. We thank all our oppositions on the day for helping us out with sharing some numbers so we can have a full side. We see it as the kids are able to make new friends. We also have Jonty Taylor with contributions to the Quamby U14’s is solid. Reserves The boys started well with Brady Gillingham goaling in the first quarter against the wind but they failed to take advantage of the breeze in the 2nd. Ringo and Kyle in the last
