Community Venues Prepare To Host 2017 Afl International Cup A host of Victorian community and state football venues will welcome hundreds of the game’s newest participants when they host the 2017 AFL International Cup this month. Twenty-five metropolitan and regional locations have been selected to host the event which kicks off from August 5-19. Of the 25 venues, eight high schools will host matches during the dedicated Schools Round, while three VFL women’s venues and a number of community football clubs will welcome teams to play as curtain-raisers to local suburban, amateur and country matches. Season 2017 will see 18 men’s teams and eight women’s teams compete for the coveted title with teams hailing from Canada, China, Croatia, Fiji, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Nauru, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Sri Lanka, USA. For the first time the men’s fixture will be played across two divisions. Division One will play four matches against other teams within the division and will then be ranked from one to 10 with grand finals to follow between the top two
placed teams on the ladder, the third and fourth placed teams and so on. The men’s Division Two and the women’s competition will see teams split into two pools of four with each team playing matches against the three opponents in their pool before competing in semi-finals and grand finals based on finishing positions within the pool. The women’s grand final will be played at Etihad Stadium as a curtain-raiser to the Round 22 clash between Carlton and Hawthorn, while the men’s grand final is to be played at the MCG as a curtainraiser to the Round 22 match between Collingwood and the Geelong Cats on August 19. The AFL International Cup is played every three years, with season 2017 marking the sixth edition of the event. No expatriate Australians are eligible to play, with teams comprising solely of amateurs who must be nationals of the country they represent. Stingrays dominate, Pioneers fly away with the wind…
The Dandenong Southern Stingrays completely blew away their opposition in its 89-point win against the Bendigo Pioneers on Saturday, which was played at Shepley Oval, Dandenong. The highly-rated Stingrays took up the challenge early, kicking with a howling wind to have the game won by the end of the first quarter, leading 51 to 0. Stingray’s coach Craig Black said the effort was nearly the best he had seen this year, something he and his players should be proud of.” “Our 17-year-old players lead the way on the day with effort, along with a few top age players, the team effort across the board was at the level required to play finals,” Black said. “We spoke after the game, that we are only a few games away the end of the home and away season and to play finals as a club we need depth of players in good form.” “Last week was really disappointing, as we let a few small things we rate ourselves on slip. We spoke to the players on Tuesday about effort, that it isn’t talent related but probably the thing that lost us the game.” “The TAC Cup is a development competition, today Bendigo played two 16-year old’s and a majority of 17-year old’s for their development for season 2018- we also looked at the list for next year with 16-year-old Jarryd Barker playing his first game, along with seven 17-year old’s,” Black finished with. Captain Josh Bateman could walk away knowing he contributed on the day, with highly fancied 19-year old’s Tom Murphy and Mason deWit having solid games playing in numerous roles.
D’Arcy, Mitch Cotter and on the siren to Tom Murphy which saw the Stingrays lead 51 to 0. The second quarter Black has prepared his team knowing the Pioneers would take their turn to hit the scoreboard, but the first inside 50 entry went to the Stingrays with 16-year-old Jarryd Barker kicking his first TAC Cup goal, which was quickly followed by another major to Jai Nanscawen. The Pioneers did take their turn and were peppering away before kicking truly and gaining three goals for the quarter, whilst the Stingrays added two courtesy of Mitropoulos and D’Arcy before the siren sounded giving the Stingrays a comfortable 56-point lead. The challenge was set to play four quarters of football at the long break, but wayward kicking and a revitalised Pioneers spirit saw the Stingrays kick six goals with the fierce breeze. They didn’t achieve what they wanted to do as they did in the first quarter in aiming to keep the Pioneers scoreless as they conceded 2 goals, but still won the quarter on the scoreboard extending the half time margin to 81 points. A lot of Stingrays magnets were thrown around at the last break, seeing Angus Paterson going for a run in the Ruck showing his more than capable of that position if needed. The trend continued with the Stingrays kicking the first goal to start the game, through Fin Bayne. This sparked Bendigo which saw them get back to back goals. The momentum was quickly stopped again with the game going into lock down mode which eventually saw the Stingrays walk away with the win, as well as achieving a four-quarter effort.
Hunter Clark continued his excellent form taking best afield honours once again, whilst kicking a couple of goals along the way. Clark was superbly feed by 17-year-old dual Rucks in Riley Bowan and Bailey Williams all around the ground, with Williams once again soaring to the starts taking a huge hanger in the last quarter. Both 17 year olds are growing in confidence and ability, which may be scary for the teams yet to face the Stingrays in the coming weeks.
The Dandenong Southern Stingrays next assignment is against Greater Western Region Rebels in two weeks’ time with a competition bye this coming weekend for the Vic Country Under 17 trial games.
Goals came through multiple goal kickers with the standout forward being Riley D’Arcy (4 goals) with his hand in many others along the way. D’Arcy has slowly been returning to his savage best after his mid-season appendicitis that saw him miss the opportunity to possibly represent Vic Country.
There were 7 multiple goal kickers, with 10 individual players making up the season high score for the Stingrays- 5 of those being bottom age players. Bailey Williams kicked off the goals after 2 minutes of play in the 1st quarter, which started the procession of goals coming through Jamie Plumridge, Jai Nanscawen, Fin Bayne, Riley
The Rebels game will be played at 3.30pm at Mars Stadium, Ballarat on Sunday August 20th, which is part of a triple header for AFL Victoria’s TAC Cup. Q1

round 16 review
BERWICK 19.11.89 DEF TOORADIN-DALMORE 9.5.59 Blustery conditions met both teams at Edwin Flack, the visitors started with the wind advantage and when Seagulls big man Aisakie O’Hailpin launched a huge 80m bomb Tooradin took a one-point lead into the first break. A quarter time rev-up from Stewart Kemperman has Berwick re-focused on the task at hand. The Wickers kicking the first three goals of the second term, the Gulls becoming hampered by losing experienced playmaker Michael Hobbs went down with a knee injury. Lucas Jellyman-Turner kicked the home-side to a 20 point lead halfway through the quarter. Things started to build slowly for Tooradin when Julian Suarez slotted a nice goal off the ground to reduce the margin to under 10 points. O’Hailpin found himself in trouble with the umpires and sent off for an indiscretion and Tim Gunn restores the balance kicking a nice goal on the halftime siren to take a 11-point lead into the main break. Tooradin’s midfield got on-top and restricted The Wickers run. Nick Lang kicked his third including two in a minute and the margin was back to one-point. Injuries took its toll on its visitors down to only player early in the last quarter. Andrew Dean kicked a goal to keep the Seagulls within reach before Berwick steadied to run away with a five-goal win to keep the unbeaten season intact.
HAMPTON PARK 2.1.13 LOST TO OFFICER 27.18.180 Another week of SEFNL footy and another Hampton Park hiding this time at the hands of the improving Officer. The Kangaroos were relatively quiet in the first quarter kicking three goals to zero as they led by 22 points at the first change. Hampton Park’s colossus Nathan Carver gave the home supporters something to cheer about as he kicked two goals in the second. It turned out to be their only goals for the contest. Officer kicked five goals in the second term as the lead grew to 47 points at the main change. It was the second half when Officer opened their shoulders and blew the contest apart. The Roos kicked 19 goals to no scores with Matt Jones and Matt Clarke combining for 10 goals. Dylan Chapman was dominating in the ruck while fellow big man Nick Redley kicked four goals. In game 301 Ben Tivendale turned the clock back snagging a season-high 4 goals. Officer have recovered well after it appeared the wheels had fallen off
the cart. The Roos winning by 167 points and receiving a massive percentage boost.
PAKENHAM 7.8.50 LOST TO NARRE WARREN 19.18.132 The windy conditions fell in favour of the favourites Narre Warren and they didn’t let the opportunity slip. The Magpies Achilles hell, they had the chance to put the result beyond doubt with 17 scoring shots resulting in 6.11 while Pakenham remained scoreless. Rather than going into their shells, the young Pakenham team worked themselves back into the contest on the second term with the aid of the breeze. The Lions reduced their 47 point quarter-time deficits to only 22 points at the half. The momentum quickly swung back in the favour of the finals bound Narre Warren. Aaron Wilson was too big and too strong in the air combining well with Nick Scanlan inside forward-50. The Magpies were sublime in the premiership quarter booting 12 goals to two setting up their win. Wilson and Scanlan combined for 11 goals as the visitors won by an impressive 82 points.
DOVETON 13.9.87 DEF BEACONSFIELD 6.3.39 The night time was the perfect setting for the two combatants to square-off in what looks likely to be a preview to this year’s elimination finals. Beaconsfield couldn’t take full control of the windy conditions as Doveton player-coach Aaron Davey kicked two telling goals against the breeze to keep the margin to only seven points at quarter time. Doveton’s pace around the football had Beaconsfield on the back foot. This year’s revelation Charlie O’Neill sparked the home-side into action booting two goals to give The Doves the lead. Nick Battle continues to put his hand up for team of the year selection kicking a beauty on his left from the boundary. Battle wasn’t finished embarrassing Cory Walker on the mark running past and booting a long-range missile to bring the crowd to its feet. The Doves never looked back maintaining their halftime lead during the third quarter despite working against the breeze. Beaconsfield couldn’t build any momentum into their game as the Doves went bang booting five-goals while keeping Beaconsfield scoreless. The Doves had winners all over the ground, Davey finished the game with three goals as The Eagles were left to look second-rate losing by 38 points.

BEACONSFIELD V CRANBOURNE Last Time - Round 7 Cranbourne 13.14.92 def Beaconsfield 6.8.44 The battle of the big birds in the competition takes place at Holm Park Reserve, a ground both sides will become familiar with between now and grand final day. The Eagles have had their wings clipped in recent week but they both should be major players in the finals with this weekend a preview of what to expect in September. Cranbourne were too strong in Round 7 and look to have the edge in this crucial contest. Beacy were looking like a genuine threat to the top two-sides only a month ago but a drop off in form culminating in a disappointing performance under lights at Doveton last week. Cranbourne’ strength comes from their experienced midfield and will be smelling finals in the air players like Matt Fletcher, Ryan Davey and Shaun Marusic will be building towards their finals campaign. Beacy will be hoping their back six can restrict Cranbourne’s scoring potential while setting up their foray forwards. Scott Meyer will need to step-up, his season hasn’t reached the same levels we have seen in the past but he needs to lead his sides push towards his side towards another finals campaign. Cranbourne to rise and stamp themselves as a title contender. Cranbourne by 27 points.
OFFICER V BERWICK Last Time - Round 8 Berwick 12.10.82 def Officer 9.5.59 Officer face one of their toughest tests of the season in their final game of the season. What can you say about Berwick which hasn’t already been said? Berwick are two games away from an undefeated season, their dominance has seen them accrue an average winning margin of over 10 goals. Berwick’s strongest defence is conceding only 46 points a game, with teams struggling to score makes it easy for Berwick to work their opposition over. Officer will come out with a nothing to lose mentality, depending on the performance of Tooradin they do have a chance to finish in sixth position with six wins, which was the same amount of wins as last year but their percentage has improved by 30% while scoring an extra 300 points. Doug Koop is in the first year of a rebuild and will be putting plans in place for next year and beyond, Berwick have too many weapons in their arsenal to lose this contest but Officer will do their best to fight it out. Berwick by 36 points
TOORADIN-DALMORE V HAMPTON PARK Last Time - Round 7 Hampton Park 6.9.45 lost to Tooradin 29.18.192 The sixth placed Tooradin welcome the bottom placed Hampton Park in a must win for the Seagulls. Tooradin have won five games for the season and will be looking to make
it six in their final game at home. Depending on results The Gulls could finish two games outside the five and will only have themselves to blame after an inconsistent season saw them drop matches they were considered favourite to win. The young Redbacks have climbed a huge hill during season 2017, after a rocky start to the season first year Coach Dean Warren and his support staff have worked hard to be as competitive as they can week in and week out. The hard work of the Redbacks may not have reaped the rewards during this season but getting senior experience into their young brigade will steady the ship for years to come. Tooradin won by 23 goals in their last encounter with Sentanta O’Hailpin and Nathan Page combining for 21 goals, neither of these players will be available this weekend. Tooradin’s top-line talent rivals the best in the competition but will need to grow from within to remain competitive against the better sides in the competition next year. Tooradin will be too big and too strong against Hampton Park, we are all hoping to see Hampton Park to produce something special to finish off the season it just won’t happen this week. Tooradin by 57 points.
DOVETON V NARRE WARREN Last Time - Round 9 Narre Warren 19.17.131 def Doveton 13.8.86 Back-to-Back Saturday Night football at AJ Robinson Reserve will bring its own air of excitement. Doveton played well under lights last weekend proving too strong for Beaconsfield, they will need to step it up against the red-hot Magpies outfit gunning for their fifth straight win. Doveton have shown plenty of fight in recent weeks, going down in two narrow loses before a huge win under lights at home last week against fellow contenders Beaconsfield. The Round Nine contest between these two foes was spiteful with 4 players sent off in the last quarter and both teams received suspensions. There will be plenty of feeling in this one, Narre are looking at a Top-2 finish, while The Doves look set towards another elimination final but I’m sure the home side will love to spill the Magpies apple cart. Both teams bring a physical element to their game and will be desperate to get on up against their rivals on the eve of finals. While the teams match up evenly, the result will be dependent on which side gets the upper hand in the midfield battle. Narre’s midfield have risen to the occasion with a great compliment of grunt and outside run providing the league leading goalkicker Nick Scanlan with plenty of supply, Aaron Wilson has also been a handy contributor of late with 34 goals to the season. Narre is the form side of the competition behind the all-conquering Berwick, Coach Heath Black had his troops primed at the right time of year. Doveton won’t make it an easy task and will be up for the contest, Rus Gabriel can be a game breaker and will look to outmuscle the Narre big men. This game will go down to the wire with Narre to secure the four points. Narre by 4 points.

A weekend off for the whole as we freshened up as a group in preparation for the final two rounds and another finals campaign. Last week we made the most of the weekend off by holding our $5k Draw which was split between Manny Vella, Glenn Osborne and Nick McPhillips. So if anyone needs a loan, see one or all of those guys!! This week we are off to Beaconsfield for the seniors, reserves and under 19As while the 19Bs take on Narre B at Frenken Homes Oval on Friday night, hoping to win and secure a spot in this year’s finals series.
After Saturday’s games, we’ll head up to Trios Sports Club for a meal and recap on the days games. We hope to see all supporters up there for a meal and a drink as we again look forward to a big month ahead. Events Cranny Cup tickets are for sale and extremely limited. Out of 120 we only have 25 left at the time of writing. See the flyer on this page to secure your spot at the Cup before all tickets go. Good luck to all teams today. Go Eagles!!

As we have the bye in the final round of season 2017 next week, this will be the last game of the season for the Seniors and Reserves sides. The Under 19’s season continues however and they have one more game after the bye against Cranbourne on 27 August before embarking on their finals campaign in the B Division of the Under 19’s comp. This week we welcome Berwick to Starling Rd and look forward to a couple of good games of football. In the away game against Hampton Park last week ( and at Tooradin for the Under 19’s) we managed to get the four points in all three grades. The Under 19’s kicked off the day with a strong win at Tooradin while the Reserves did the same in the first match of the day at Hampton Park. The Seniors put four good quarters together to record a resounding 167 point win in what was a good sign for the future. All players
contributed, keeping Hampton Park to just two goals for the game and scoreless in the second half. Matt Jones and Matt Clarke got among the goals with five each. Next Saturday is the Club’s 2017 Reverse Draw day commencing around 3pm, with the first tickets drawn at 4pm. Tickets at $150 each are still available from the Club and the usual fun day is assured. Don’t forget to continue supporting the Under 19’s as their season continues into the finals series. A couple of dates to keep in the diary are the public holiday on Friday 29 September for the Grand Final Eve Panel Show sponsored by B & D Plumbing commencing at noon at the social rooms and Friday 22 September for our 2017 Presentation Night to be held at the Pakenham Cultural Centre. Tickets to both events are available from the Club.

Our last away game coming up today with this weeks game against ROC. Last week saw us get home against a determined Tooradin outfit at home. We worked hard all day and with our 2 ruckmen on the bench injured we a touch unbalanced. This coupled with a few outs before the game indicated it was a good strong win. The reserves had a comfortable win with the forwards lining up to kick goals at will. Great team effort The thirds had an early start at Pakenham taking on Narre Warren A team. Make sense....didn’t think so. Originally Narre A had a stand alone game at Narre and Tooradin 19s had a stand alone game at Tooradin. Either
of them could have played at Berwick before our reserves as we had no under 19 games. Anyway the 19s had a tough day at the office and whilst beaten were not disgraced and it was probably only inaccuracy in front of goal that contributed to the loss. I am sure they will bounce back next game Reminder our Netball/Football 90s night on Saturday. Get along as this will be our biggest function of the year. Also Thursday meal before the Beaconsfield game will be put on by the famous crew from Sneaky Cheese. Get up there for the worlds best burgers courtesy of Pete and the Team

Well after holding our own with Berwick for most of the game was a little disappointing to go down in junk time by 5goals. There efforts were fantastic and had we had been able to finish with all on the field the outcome would of been much closer, to go down to the best by 5 was an outstanding result, thanks to all involved for there efforts. Reserve’s had a hard day at the office with number’s just not there, thanks to Craig for his patience with those boys, it’s the hardest job in the land. 19s have this weekend off so enjoy it boys, you need to finish off with some wins boys so put your time to good use and get to training. We will be announcing our coaches set up for next year this week so watch this space. Still no answer from the league on the outcome of divisional football, although I fear again this may be put in the to hard basket again, word is Pennisula and Nepean are happy to join but without us, makes a mockery of All the hard work put in by the powers to be. Good luck to the girls this weekend there still traveling well. We welcome Hampton Park to Tooradin this week, we’ve always had great games and this maybe the last for some time. Good luck to Mick and all the boys wherever they end up. “GO GULLS”.

Well last weekend we hosted Officer in very windy and cold conditions. We seem to have lost the pleasant weather we enjoyed earlier in the season as winter has well and truly set in. The reserves were first up and with a couple of senior players returning from long term injuries as well as usual fill ins who the club is eternally grateful for we managed to get a team on the park. The boys played a great game, kicking their highest score for the season. It may not sound like much however when you consider the effort to get the team up it is a mighty achievement. Officer held sway on the day and won by 39 points in the end. Better players on day; A Miles, J Viney, L O’Brien, P Bastin & N Dawes.
down to what promised to be a great nights entertainment. Thank you to all our sponsors who without your support we would not be able to run the club and put both football and netball teams on the part each weekend.
The seniors were next up and fought out the first half quite well only going in 8 goals down at the main break. The second half though the boys were unable to stem the flow as Officer got on top. Better players on the day; H Brough, R Smart, H Paul, N Carver, N Williams & A Miles. Social Saturday night in the clubrooms from 7.30 onwards is Back to School night, dig out the old school uniform and come

Last weekend we hosted our first of two night matches against Beaconsfield! And what a great day of football and netball it was for our club with some brilliant victories across the day! The 19s played top team Beaconsfield with 8 of our boys lining up in the seniors we took it right up to Beacy just letting the game slip in the last 5 minutes to go down by 12 points. Amazing gutsy performance with 16 guys. Dylan Bowman was outstanding all day and Tyson Bellinger kicked 3 up forward. The ressies took on 3rd placed Beaconsfield in windy conditions again and dominated all around the ground under lights. Ben Dalforno and Shaun were brilliant in the midfield and Tristan Warkuss owned his wing. Our Senior boys had the privilege of playing its first of two nights games on our home ground in front of a big crowd. At quarter time Beaconsfield had the lead just but by the half time break we managed to capitalise and be 22 points up. From there onwards, we allowed Beaconsfield to score a few more goals, but the game looked to be ours. Our coach Aaron Flash Davey managed to secure 3 handy goals, whilst Shannon Henwood and Charlie O’Neill scoring 4 between them, all contributed to our victory. Whilst Jake Blackwood dominated with a best on ground performance closely followed by Will Smith and Big Russ. This is the sort of team win and confidence we needed heading into the finals series! Well done boys! Now for our clash against Narre Warren in our Indigenous Round. We would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who worked so hard in making the day a successful one! We couldn’t of done it without you guys!! Massive shout out to Cass Hackett and Aunty Helen who worked from Friday all the way through to Saturday to make sure the canteen ran flawlessly and no one was left hungry!
“Long Walk” also prior to the game. Michael Long will lead the ‘Long Walk” down Frawley Road, Doveton to Oak Street. Start time is 4.30pm. Please arrive early. The destination is the A J Robinson Reserve, home of the Doveton Football Netball Club. Distance is approximately 600 metres. Police will be on hand to assist with road closure. Round 16 Footy Review Narre comfortably accounted for Pakenham in Seniors and Reserves. Our 19Bs grafted out a gutsy win in a low scoring affair (also against Pakenham); while our 19A played some supreme footy to beat Berwick by 40 points. Seniors – Narre’s Ones got the early jump with the wind to lead by 8 goals at quarter time, but we had to work hard in the second term as Pakenham kicked five of their own to close the gap at the main break. The energy-sapping conditions took their toll on the players and as the match progressed Narre’s superior fitness defined the outcome – a 12-goal to 2-goal second half and an 82-point win. Our forward line functioned very well – Aaron Wilson (6 goals) and Nick Scanlon (5) in our best. Josh Tonna had a heap of footy again; Jack Soroczynski was damaging with consistent run-and-carry and good delivery; Dean Kelly and Joel Zietsman also played well. Reserves – Narre’s Twos were too big, too strong and too quick for the Lions. Our second quarter was tough and impressive as we defended relentlessly against the strong wind, keeping the opposition scoreless while kicking one goal of our own. Corie Intveen was clearly best on the ground with 5 goals; Liam Myatt kicked 3 in an important next step in his return to senior footy from long term injury. Jordy Flannery, Mitch Tonna, and Andy Vella were also in our best. Under 19A – 19A’s played Berwick at Pakenham at the very early start time of 8.40am Sat morning. Our boys kicked into a strong breeze in the
first quarter and after a solid first 20 mins lead 3 points a 1/4 time. We kicked away with the breeze in the 2nd to lead by 3 goals at the break before playing a super last half of footy to run out winners by 40 points and kick off what was a great day for the club. 2 goals each to Sharpy, Pottsy, Grigga & Maxy Sheppard. Best players were Jakey Stuart, Barney, Flanners and Webby. Special mention to Leigh Tannahill. Under 19B –Our Development side took on Pakenham this week. With a win each in their previous 2 meeting this season, a close encounter was expected. With a breeze favouring one end, Pakenham got the jump in the first quarter, but once Narre had the wind in the 2nd, our young fella’s took control of the game from the midfield and hitting the scoreboard became a regular occurrence. From trailing by 8 points at quarter time, Narre took a 13 point lead into half time. It became a tight tussle in the third with goals hard to get. We held onto a tight 2 point margin at 3QT, could have been a different story if Pakenham converted a bit better. Our boys continued to press in the last and were too good when the game was on the line running out winners by 21 points. Zac Gulivan and Jett Cipriani worked hard all game and along with James Milovojevic, the 3 stood out out in the midfield. Up forward, Brodie Jamison continued his excellent form in front of goals with 3 majors and Bailey Wardle chipped in with 2

round 16 netball review
BERWICK 27 LOST TO TOORADIN-DALMORE 48 Tooradin came out on a clear mission to return to the winners list in style on the back of their stringent defence. Defenders Jess Maher and Bec Kinna helped to restrict Berwick to only six first half goals. The Seagulls had the result secured at the main break leading by 19 goals. Berwick didn’t shirk the issue and came out after halftime and took it up to the early season premiership favourite. The Wickers showed some real grit and determination on the back of great play from players like Sarah Nash and Bec Langford. In a match where the result could have been one-sided the young Wickers did well to reduce the bleeding and lost the second half by only two going down by 21 goals to the second placed Tooradin.
DOVETON 57 DEF BEACONSFIELD 50 Confidence is a wonderful thing in sport as Doveton carried their momentum from last week’s win at Tooradin into their contest under lights against Beaconsfield. Sharpshooter phenom Rahni Samason got the ball rolling being fed with great supply from a dominant mid-court. The Doves shot-out to a six goal lead at the first break. Beacy swung the changes in the second term with Ash Gill moving into the middle who had an immediate impact. The Eagles performed better outscoring the home-side 17-13 to reduce the two at the main change. The third quarter was a fierce contest with either team unable to take an advantage on the scoreboard. Samason took the game by the scruff of the neck shooting 13 last quarter goals while Mel Webster was outstanding in defence. The Doves made it back-to-back huge wins for the club leaving them one game away from third winning by seven and announcing themselves as a genuine finals threat.
HAMPTON PARK 25 LOST TO ROC 30 After a long time between wins ROC have bounced back with a strong month of netball. The Redbacks had a chance to increase the gap between them and the three bottom placed teams. The home-side took the slightest of leads into the main change as they led by one-goal. It was ROC’s defenders who kept them in the contest. Led by Laura Quinn and Mel Overdyk worked hard in a game where the defenders kept the attackers quiet in a low scoring contest. The Kangaroos worked hard in the second half ourscoring The Redbacks 18-12 winning the match by five goals. ROC has turned their season around and could finish sixth showing how close the competition is.
PAKENHAM 31 LOST TO NARRE WARREN 72 Narre Warren showed once again why they’re the best team in the competition with a dominant performance against the bottom placed Pakenham. The Magpies gunning for their 11th consecutive win took control of the match early in the contest leading by 16 goals (21-5) extending their lead to 30 by halftime winning the second term 18 goals to four. Once again it was Narre’s midcourters proving to be difficult to stop. With the likes of Erin Clark and Britt Mashado combining well for the full four quarters. The second half was a little closer as Pakenham eased the scoreboard pressure while young Lion defenders Keely Wright, Jenna Douglas and Amelia McCarthy battled their hardest to reduce the scoreboard impact. Narre brought up their 12th win in comprehensive style winning by 41 goals

Round 17 netball preview
BEACONSFIELD V CRANBOURNE Last Time - Round 7 Cranbourne 34 lost to Beaconsfield 42 Beaconsfield will be seething going down to Doveton last week under lights in a match many expected them to win. The loss has put their position in the Top-Three in jeopardy. Cranbourne can be a difficult team to win against as their stringent defence can restrict their opposition to lower than normal scores. Beacy were too good in their earlier contest 10 Rounds ago and will be looking to return to the winners list against another finals aspirant in Cranbourne. The game will be won in the middle of the court with Rylee Nelson and Ash Gill have built a formidable partnership which usually gets the game going in favour of Beaconsfield. Coach Simon O’Shannesy will be hoping star Jasmine Jones will be available for selection after missing the past month due to a leg injury. Cranbourne’s form has drifted slightly after securing their finals birth. Cranbourne have shown their best can test anyone in the competition and if they bring their best they can take it right up to Beaconsfield. A return to home-court might be enough to give Beacy the edge. Beaconsfield by 7 goals.
ROC V BERWICK Last Time - Round 8 Berwick 56 def ROC 51 Sometimes when teams can’t make finals their form can dissipate but with sixth place on the line you can expect a ferocious contest. Both teams should be proud of their improvement during the year when things were looking bleak at times. ROC have two wins and a draw from the last five matches and will be looking for another notch in the belt with a win in their final match of the season at home. Berwick were blown off the court in the first half against Tooradin but stuck to their task well minimising the scoreboard impact. The young Wickers have grown as the season continued and will be looking to finish off their season strongly. A win here could see Berwick finish as high as sixth and establish real building blocks for the netball club going forward. Berwick by 5 goals.
TOORADIN-DALMORE V HAMPTON PARK Last Time - Round 7 Hampton Park 14 lost to Tooradin 52 Depending on results Tooradin can still finish on top of the SEFNL ladder which would be an outstanding performance for a team that was winless in 2015. The Seagulls have their own destiny in their hands and will be looking for win number 13 against Hampton Park at home. The Redbacks were disappointing losing a game they were expected to win against ROC at home last week. Coach Kylie Kibble will be hoping for a better four quarter performance from The Redbacks this week. It won’t be an easy task as Tooradin put in one of their best performances of the season in their last encounter reducing Hampton Park to only 14 goals in their demoralising 38 goal win. The finals bound Tooradin will have too much class across the court and could win by another big amount in their last home game of the season. Tooradin by 25 goals
DOVETON V NARRE WARREN Last Time - Round 9 Narre Warren 69 def Doveton 25 The giant killing Doveton who were once facing down the barrel after a tough run home have cause two major upsets and blown the premiership race wide open. The Doves are playing their second match in a row under lights at home and if they can reproduce their current form they could achieve the impossible ending Narre Warren’s impressive 11 game winning streak. Rahni Samason continues her breakout season with impressive performances in front of goal and will be hoping to get enough chances to convert on the scoreboard and shoot The Doves to their 10th win of the season and a chance of jumping into third. In their way is the dominant force that is the reigning premiers Narre Warren. After dropping their first match in 38 matches earlier in the season The Magpies have been unstoppable disposing of every club in the SEFNL. Narre have the players to eliminate Samason’s influence in attack by keeping the control of the ball and restricting the Doves fluent ball movement. After back-to-back wins against teams above them on the ladder, tip against Doveton at your own peril. This game should be red-hot and generate as much interest as their football counter-parts. Narre look to have the slight edge but it won’t be easy. Narre by 6 goals.

A Grade failed to capitalise on their opportunities, going down to Doveton. It was important to put together a 4 qtr performance against a team we may come up against in finals. We started off well, going goal for goal, & providing some great defence pressure across the court. Unfortunately, we failed to put together the required consistent passages of play, & were exposed by a more determined opposition who wanted the ball & the win more. On occasions, we threatened to push & break even, but we let ourselves down with fundamental errors that we need to eliminate before finals. Dani was our best player, putting in a tireless 4 qtrs at GK & was supported by Brit at GD. Bianca provided a strong target at GS & was the recipient of our 2nd award. B Grade-Doveton streaked out to a 4goal advantage at the 1st break, & maintained that margin going into 1/2 time. Some minor tweaks in the line up paid dividends in the 2nd half, with Corinne coming on at GS, Kelly finding space at GA & Gabi in defence. The team drew level at 3/4 time setting up an enthralling last qtr. A series of intercepts from Gabi & Bec was eventually rewarded with the team managing a 2goal victory.
Awards: Sophie W, Sophie F & Jamie Q. Thanks heaps to Casey, Imogen & Jamie for filling in. 13 Red-The girls came focused & played with the intensity & enthusiasm we’d spoken about before the game. Well done to Kasey, Imogen & Tahlia for their defensive pressure over the 4 qtrs. Holly, Jaimie & Chloe were fantastic through the midcourt, & Darcy, Tiarna & Isabella provided strong targets in the goal circle. Awards: Jaimie for her 4 qtr effort in C & Tiarna in GA, for her confident shooting inside the goal circle. 13 White got out to a flying start with plenty of run & drive into attack. The players worked hard for each other & applied a lot of defensive pressure. Awards: Eliza & Aleisha.
Awards: Gabi, Ciara & Kelly. C grade got off to a fast start with our run & drive through the midcourt. It was great to see so many options presenting all over the court & each player back everyone up. The attackers were strong while the defenders continued to work together. Awards: Jordan, Sam, Maddie, Caity & Paris. D grade-l thought we all put in a great team game with things not going our way & a few basic errors in the end were costly, going down by 1. Few things to work on as we head into the business end of the season. It was a huge game this week for our very own Shelley Ziesler, playing her 250th game! What a huge achievement & to do it at 1 club is something to be very proud of, congratulations!! 17 Red-What an incredible battle for the entire 4 qtrs, every pass was crucial & it was outstanding to see the girls lift under pressure. So proud of each of the girls who played with courage & perseverance until the final whistle. Awards: Paige, Teneille & Eb. 17 White-An even 1st qtr saw the girls regroup at the 1st break & fire up for the next qtr. They put their foot down connecting fantastically in attack & applied full court defensive pressure. Congratulations to Sophie on playing her 1st game in U17’s! Awards: Abhi, Jess & Zara. 15 Red-Everyone worked beautifully & gave 100%. The girls moved the ball into the goal area & placement was accurate. A very close game ending in a draw. Awards: Maxine, Fran, Chelsea & Millie 15 White-In another game with very windy conditions, we saw quite alot of shots on goal missing the ring. We managed to keep our persistence & the 2nd half saw us pull away with the win.

With a Bye last week our teams enjoyed a Saturday off and a sleep in for our juniors. We have quite a few of our teams look towards finals which are only a couple of weeks away. They are training hard and putting in the extra yards to prepare. Congratulations to Sarah from our C grade for playing her 50th senior game against Pakenham. Thanks you to the ongoing support from our sponsors: Sports Co. Trios Sports Bar Yo-Get-It Thermofilm Y-Not Lawn & Garden Care. With all of our teams refreshed we look forward to taking on Beaconsfield this week.

13 Under Red Congratulations girls on a complete team performance with all players excelling in their roles and playing positions for four quarters. A few features included our our mixed bag of centre pass set ups and confidence to move the ball out of defence with trust, smarts and control. The highlight was our defensive pressure to hunt 42 intercepts, tap and gathers and deflections. A committed team effort by all! Go 13 Red 15 Under Red ROC U15 Red girls took on Hampton Park this weekend who to their credit pushed these girls in the first half. The U15’s are in a unique position leading into finals and acknowledge the hard work they have ahead of them. These girls are determined than anything to go out each week and continue to improve and play the best netball possible and we are all very excited to see where this journey takes us!
Keep working hard girls - we are all very proud of you but the hard work has only just begun!!! Bring on Berwick this week in our last home game and last home and away round! Go ROC

berwick As the Wickers played host to Tooradin-Dalmore last week at home, we are certainly proving that Rome can be rebuilt, it just takes time and patience for your efforts to pay off. For the first time this season, ALL 6 junior teams came away with a win on the court. A massive milestone for the club and these young players who are the future of the Wickers. 13 Whites - 29-9 13 Reds - 22-14 15 Whites - 44-1 15 Reds - 40-11 17 Whites - 31-15 17 Reds - 20-19 A massive congratulations to our 17 & U Reds along with their coach Janine Kilmartin, who have strived all season to get that win, finally you girls did and it was a very proud moment courtside to watch and be a part of the celebration. There have been many close games that you just didn’t quite get there and no doubt you felt great after that win. Well done Wickers. Coaches, Mel Guic - 13W, Janelle Snelling - 13R, Bridget Arthurson - 15W and Leanne Walford - 15R, have all set the
bar high for these players in season 2017. It is now paying off leading into finals, where all 4 of these teams sit at the moment in the top 4. Well done #Wickers 2017 is proving to be successful for you all. It has been a long 5 years since any Berwick Netball Club junior team has made finals within the league and a few more years than that since our last junior team won being the 13 & U Grand Final. As Berwick will be hosting both the Elimination Final - Sunday August 27th and the 1st Semi Final - Sunday September 3rd, we look forward to some great games by our very own on court and we look forward to our huge supporter base from our club members and past players alike, cheering the girls on courtside at all games both home and away for the finals series. This week we travel to Officer to play ROC, there will be some great battles on court this week despite the wind and possible showers. Last time we came against ROC was back in 8, where results were mixed across the day. Come on #Wickers we can do this. We as always take this opportunity to thank our sponsors for all of their ongoing support. 2 rounds to go #wickers, let’s finish off strong #wickerproud #wickers2017 #wickersweareone

A fantastic week of results against Berwick last week with all senior teams taking home wins and despite no junior wins we saw some fantastic efforts from our girls. Highlights included D grade who really put their minds to the task at hand in a must win game at Berwick and came away with a 15 goal win to keep their finals hopes alive. We look forward to seeing them continue this form against Hampton Park today. C grade also recorded a big victory putting them in good form and promoting them to fourth position on the ladder. A grade made an impressive comeback from last weeks loss improving on their last performance against a young and determined Berwick. The most impressive effort for the day though would have to be our U17 Red who came out firing and were playing some incredible netball. Luck was not on their side though and the game saw us
lose Natalie and Grace to injury leaving us with no bench and only six players on the court. Despite the odds being well and truly stacked against them the girls worked incredible hard as a team and lost by one heartbreaking goal! Even without the win this team were winners in our eyes on the day as they never gave up and showed a fighting spirit that they should be extremely proud of! This week we take on Hampton Park at the seagull nest and with some must win games to be played we look forward to a fantastic day of netball. A huge congratulations this week to U17 coach Tara Smith and her family Jeremy and Taj on the safe arrival of baby boy Koa Jeremy Smith. We are all so excited and looking forward to meeting our newest little seagull. With only two games left before finals please keep your eyes on the facebook page for details of our last game function, senior and junior presentation nights. Go Seagulls!

13 Red, with only 5 of our team we took to the court with three fill ins to help us out. Unfortunately it wasn’t our day and Beaconsfield were the better team running away with the win.
Instead of a close lose. We can come away with a great win.
U15 white: You girls continue to fight every game till the last whistle! While we were lucky enough to take home the win this week the margin was decreased! An amazing effort you girls took on board everything Emma and I said and ask of you. Well done girls
A -Grade Well Well Well.
U15’s Red: Went into the game really flat but managed to stay within the game. By ¾ time Beaconsfield were not backing down and our girls managed to claw back some desperately needed goals. Beaconsfield managed to score a goal on the siren to level the game. Girls it just proves that it all lies with you guys from game preparation to how you warm up to how badly you want it. Moving onto next week now against Narre. Come prepared, come ready to work and the reward will happen itself.
With 3 under 17 girls, and a under 15, and super support from our senior girls, our future looks bright. Defensive never giving up, great running from our mid court, and our goalies finishing off their good week..
U17 Red: J.B. All stars Well Well Well
Well Done all 8 girls.. let’s back it up again next week...
Great work , Great Attitudes Keep up the good work!!!!
Two weeks in a row, we have played top of the table. Two weeks in a row, our girls have come with the right attitude, and a will to play for each other..
Next week another big week. With Liz back in charge, I’m sure she will be looking forward to seeing all your smiling, hardworking, eager to listen faces.
Looking forward to this game for a couple of weeks. Some real good signs with some peoples commitment to the contest 1st class. Other girls need to work out, what they want out of the year.. To only lose by a couple of goals, and dish out one of our worst performances, is a positive. Looking for a big improvement this week. Let’s see who wants a spot come finials time.. D Grade: Knew going into this match that we can match it with the best – just need to believe it in ourselves. Up until half time we were level and we were not going to back down. We chased every ball, we followed every rebound, we moved the ball down the court and our goalers absolutely smashed it! We came away with a 1 goal win!!! And completely deserved it too! It’s the confidence boost we needed heading into the finals series. Now to tackle Narre Warren this weekend at home, it’s a hard tasks but if we play how we did last weekend, anything is possible. Go Doves! B-Grade Was a fantastic effort by all girls. With vannessa- Silla dominating rebounding O.P.J. Enjoying her new position on W.A. Game was tight back and forth goal for goal. Our girls for the second week showing the can compete with the top sides... With just a big more composer with the ball, and a bit of polish.

Our netballers came away with eight wins from round fifteen at Pakenham. It was great to see Emma Pansow back on court from her frustrating run of injuries!
strong Pakenham mid court. A great defensive effort in the last quarter limited Pakenham to four goals while we scored ten to take a hard-earned six goal win.

13W: Pak 29 def NW 8 BOC: Olivia, Thani & Paige A tough day at the office for the 13W girls who will be keen to get back on track against Doveton this week. 15R: NW 33 def Pak 20 BOC: Jaimee & Chloe A steady performance in windy conditions to see our 15R girls secure the four points. 15W: Pak 22 def NW 19 BOC: Hayley & Mikayla Despite a good start the 15W girls couldn’t hang on to defeat Pakenham. They dug deep in the last quarter but it just wasn’t enough for the win or to earn a place in the top five. 17R: NW 39 def Pak 26 BOC: Corrina, Caity & Alex Pakenham pushed the 17R girls hard. With the scores level at half time, they moved to plan B to try and gain an edge. Lauren stepped up from 15R and did a great job in the goal ring. A strong second half built a winning lead.
This week we take on Doveton for Multicultural Round with all ten teams playing one after the other. Action kicks off at 10am with the 13 White girls. The final match of the day is A Grade at 7.15pm.
