ESTÉ MACLEOD & V ANESSA BOWMAN EXHIBITION
Esté MacLeod
Esté’s playful interpretations of still life, landscapes, and floral-themed work are instantly recognisable due to her clever use of colour, a unifying element in all her work. Colour is central to her practice, used with the intention ‘to surprise, evoke calming emotions and a sense of joy.’
Her latest work is true to this ambition; it reflects the vibrancy of the natural world, celebrates the simplicity of everyday domestic objects, captures the energy of the changing seasons, and interprets the compelling patterns found in nature.
Her fusion of colour, applied across multiple layers, with the considered use of space and harmony between objects, creates an ethereal quality palpable in each painting, and is what makes the work of this highly talented and versatile artist so popular.
Born in Pretoria, South Africa, in 1968, Esté was passionate about painting and drawing from childhood. This led to her studying art and textile design at Pretoria Technikon - now Tshwane University of Technology - and on graduating she forged a career as a textile designer and ceramicist. Having relocated to the UK 25 years ago, this is where she now calls home and continues to paint and create ceramic art.
More recently she completed an MA in Contemporary Crafts and, alongside this and her own artistic practice, teaches art through courses, workshops, and retreats.
