Mark Preston Solo Exhibition

Mark Preston has successfully exhibited his work at Red Rag Gallery for many years and we are now delighted to host his fourth solo exhibition and our first after lockdown. Mark paints in acrylics and, whilst occasionally he paints in the studio, he prefers to work outside in the elements. The 35 paintings in this exhibition are a culmination of two years’ work, the majority having been painted in his home county of Derbyshire. Restrictions over the last year have meant that the opportunity for painting trips to the Lake District and Cornwall have not materialised, resulting in Mark spending his time focussing on local areas in more detail. Although home schooling and other distractions kept him from painting for part of last year, numerous walks with his children have introduced him to some subjects closer to home, meaning that when he was finally able to return to paint familiar locations, he saw them with fresh eyes and renewed vigour. As Mark says, “Having time away from working certainly made me cherish the freedom to paint again, compelling me to work with a renewed passion and enthusiasm”.
