lready selling out more than 25 dates, Eric Church’s “The Blood, Sweat & Beers Tour” will perform at Joe Louis Arena this fall with guests Justin Moore and Kip Moore. The tour has received a huge response from fans and media. The Reading Eagle wrote, “It’s been said a transcendent concert can resemble a religious experience, but this took it to a new level… the 34-year-old frequently exploded from the mic stand, arms pounding his chest, screaming at the crowd to boost an energy level that pyrotechnics and explosions had already elevated… the energy roared.”

he Ringwald and Olympia Entertainment are thrilled to bring the hilariously bloody “Evil Dead: The Musical” to Detroit for its third annual engagement. In honor of its Detroit world premiere in October 1981, it will perform every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night in October at 8 p.m.

Based on Sam Raimi’s 80’s cult classic films, the musical unearths the old familiar story: Boy and friends spend weekend at cabin, boy expects to get lucky, boy unleashes evil spirit, friends turn into Candarian Demons, boy fights until dawn to survive. As musical mayhem descends, “camp” takes on a whole new meaning with several uproarious numbers.

His routines relay tales from his real life, ranging from growing up in Texas to joining the ranks of some of the most successful comedians in America.

eorge Lopez, the multi-talented entertainer whose career encompasses television, film and stand-up comedy, returning to the Fox Theatre with his new tour “That’s The America I Live In.” Lopez has earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Time Magazine named him one of the 25 most influential Hispanics in America. He has co-hosted the Emmy Awards and twice hosted the Latin Grammys. Most recently, Lopez hosted FOX’s new dating series Take Me Out and will debut his third solo stand-up special on HBO.

or the last eighteen years, stand-up comedian, television host, political commentator, author and actor, Bill Maher, has set the boundaries of where funny political talk can go on American TV. First on Comedy Central’s Politically Incorrect and for the last seven years on HBO’s Real Time, Maher’s combination of unflinching honesty and big laughs have garnered him twenty-one Emmy nominations. This combination was on display in Maher’s uproarious and unprecedented swipe at organized religion, Religulous. Directed by Larry Charles (Borat), the film became the seventh highest grossing documentary ever.

or the first time since 1972, Ian Anderson will perform Thick As A Brick in its entirety and his latest album, Thick As A Brick 2. Anderson is known as the flute, voice and composer of the legendary Jethro Tull. The world tour will feature a theatrical production with video and additional musicians, including Anderson’s band: Bassist David Goodier, keyboardist John O’Hara, drummer Scott Hammond, and wunderkind guitarist Florian Opahle. The band has performed on Anderson’s solo dates over the years and at various times as members of Jethro Tull.

Griffin’s current talk show, KATHY, encompasses stand-up, pop culture, politics and her beloved mom Maggie Griffin. Her successful stand-up specials for Bravo include Kathy Griffin-Straight to Hell (November 2008) and Kathy Griffin: She’ll Cut a Bitch (April 2009).

rolific funnyman, actor, author, and stand-up comedian, Lewis Black, is bringing his “Running on Empty Tour” to the Fox Theatre. Black’s performances provide a cathartic release of anger and disillusionment for audiences. He is the rare comic who causes audiences to laugh into incontinence while making compelling points about the world’s absurdity. Black came into national prominence through his appearances on The Daily Show in 1996. He won Best Male Stand-Up at the 2001 American Comedy Awards and has produced six comedy albums, two of which have won Grammy Awards.

Kelly made Soul Train Award history as the most nominated artist.

Founding members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend will be joined by Zak Starkey (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), Simon Townshend (guitar/backing vocals), Chris Stainton (keyboards), Loren Gold (keyboards/backing vocals) and Frank Simes (musical director, keyboards/backing vocals). Quadrophenia marked the British band’s second rock opera and hit #2 on the U.S. Billboard album chart.

egendary singer/songwriter/poet, Leonard Cohen, will return to the Fox Theatre with his new live show “Old Ideas World Tour 2012.” The show will celebrate Cohen’s 12th studio album, Old Ideas, which debuted at #1 across the globe and is the highest charting album of his career. The tour follows Cohen’s 2008-2010 world tour – his first in 15 years – which was met with overwhelming praise. The San Jose Mercury News reported, “The show underscored what his fans already know: Leonard Cohen is one of the greatest singer-songwriters in the history of popular music.”

Most recently, the single was featured on the soundtrack of Johnny Depp’s film Dark Shadows.

cclaimed a cappella group, Straight No Chaser (SNC) is set to bring their “#SNClive Fall 2012 Tour” to the Fox Theatre. SNC, who was featured on the “Generation YouTube” episode of ABC’s 20/20, is using the tour to expand on their social media interaction with fans. “This group started because of a viral video on YouTube,” explains group member Randy Stine. “From day one, we have encouraged fans to upload photos and videos from our shows, even expanding venue photo policies to ensure that this was possible. We are excited to really drive home the idea of building a fan community around content by naming our tour #SNClive.” As its name suggests, #SNClive will be a multi-platform concert event, with the hashtag giving fans a way to search and categorize content specific to this tour across all social media platforms.

rammy-winning music legend Kenny Rogers is known for creating an inviting atmosphere with his acclaimed, family-friendly “Christmas & Hits Tour” since its start 31 years ago. With the help of local choirs and children, fans will hear heartfelt performances of holiday songs such as “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let it Snow!,” “Silent Night” and “White Christmas.” Rogers will also perform many of his classic hits, including “Lady,” “The Gambler” and “Islands In The Stream.” Billy Dean will join Rogers as a special guest.

1 9 2 0 - n ow 1920s & 30s In the early twenties, Detroit was a boom town. The automotive industry was making Detroit a wealthy community and desirable place to live. The Fox Theatre, built by William Fox, owner of Fox Film Corporation (today known as 20th Century Fox), and designed by C. Howard Crane, opened just one year before the stock market crashed in 1929.

1940s Downtown Detroit was still bustling, but World War II was everyone’s focus. News reels could be seen at the Fox Theatre until the mid 50s, before the advent of television. War movies were in vogue, and big bands were swinging at the Fox Theatre including: Cab Callaway, Kay Kyser, Benny Goodman, and the Dorsy Brothers.

1950s Wide screen films premiered at Detroit’s Fox Theatre in the 1950s. All major films, including Cinemascope-type and grandiose productions such as The Robe, Bridge on the River Kwai, Ben Hur and The King and I played the Fox. Comedy superstars like Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin entertained up to 37,000 fans in just one day performing seven shows to standing-room-only crowds. Legendary performers, including Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra, also played the Fox Theatre.

1960s In the mid-60s, Motown emerged along with the Motortown Revue, a popular concert series that played at the Fox Theatre. The Revue was an opportunity to showcase the majority of Motown’s artist roster featuring; Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Martha and The Vandellas and The Supremes.

1970s Many businesses and citizens moved into the suburbs during this time; but Kung Fu films and horror movies were thriving at the Fox Theatre.

1980s In 1987, Mike and Marian Ilitch restored the Fox Theatre to it’s orginal splendor. The restorations took 18 months. The grand reopening, held November 19, 1988, featured the showing of Curtain’s Up. The Fox Theatre was again touted as the gem of the entertainment world and feverishly hosted a potpourri of events.

1990s The Fox Theatre reigned as one of the top-grossing theatres of its size in the world. In the early 90s several movie classics returned to the big screen, including The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Spartacus, and Lawrence of Arabia. Concert acts like Bruce Springsteen and Sheryl Crow rocked audiences while family entertainment thrived with shows like The Radio City Christmas Spectacular and Sesame Street Live.

2000s Listed on the National Historic Register, the Fox Theatre continues to be ranked as one of the top grossing theatres of its size. It also serves as Detroit’s crown jewel among the resurging Foxtown entertainment district of performing arts and sporting venues, bars and restaurants. An extensive array of concerts, comedians, Broadway and family programming continue to delight audiences; including Kid Rock & The Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Nicki Minaj, B.B. King, Janet Jackson, Sting, Jerry Seinfeld, Steve Harvey, Tyler Perry’s Madea, Dreamgirls, Fiddler on the Roof and Donny & Marie.

BARRIER-FREE: Barrier-free seating locations and restrooms are provided; please advise the box office of any special needs or seating requirements when ordering tickets. To order Accessible Seating tickets, please call our Accessible Seating Voicemail System at 313.471.3211 and follow the prompts. FIRE EXITS: Fire exits are indicated by lighted, red signs; please use the exit nearest your seat for the shortest route out of the theater. HEARING ASSISTIVE DEVICES: Hearing assistive devices are available on a first come, first served basis. To obtain a headset, please visit the Guest Services kiosk located in the Grand Lobby; a driver’s license or picture ID must be exchanged for a device (this is a complimentary service.)

CELLULAR PHONES: Please refrain from utilizing cellular phones in the Auditorium. CONTACTING A PATRON: The Fox Theatre does not have a paging system; in the event of an emergency, please contact the Corporate Security Department at 313.471.6490 with the name and seating location of the patron you are attempting to contact. FIRST AID: First aid is available at all events. ATM: ATM’s are located on the Main Floor and Mezzanine levels of the theatre, on the left side of the building. FOX PARKING STRUCTURE: The Fox Parking Structure is located between Woodward Avenue and Park Street, just south of I-75 (Fisher Freeway.) Entrances are on the Fisher Freeway service drive and Montcalm Street; the 1,100 car parking tower is well lit, secure and includes thirty-two (32) handicapped parking spaces (handicapped parking spaces are adjacent to the glass elevators on all eight levels.) For future events prepaid parking is available at Ticketmaster.com. FOOD AND BEVERAGE: Food and beverage are permitted in the Auditorium for all events unless explicitly indicated otherwise; bars and concessions stands are located throughout the theatre. ELEVATORS: Elevators to the Mezzanine and Galleries are located to the right of the Grand Lobby. RESTROOMS: Restrooms serving Main Floor patrons are located in the lower level lounge areas; the men’s restroom is located on the right side of the theatre and the women’s is located on the left. The Mezzanine and Gallery A, B and C men’s restrooms are located on the left side of the theatre and the women’s are located on the right. Barrier-free restrooms are located on the Main Floor and Gallery C (left side of the theatre.) SMOKING: Smoking is prohibited inside the Fox Theatre; designated smoking areas are located outside the building.
