Disability Justice | 1 - 4 p.m. We all have some relationship to what is considered the "normal" or the "non-normative" body, and it's likely a relationship laced with assumptions, judgement, and unacknowledged power and privilege. In this session, we will look at the dominant political framing of disability, examine its relationship to gender based oppression and racial oppression, and explore a counter-narrative where all bodies and communities are valued. The goal of this workshop is to support participants in their commitment to an intersectional political analysis that centralizes people of color and integrates disability oppression as a component of a justice based analysis of current conditions.

from the president Magandang gabi at maligayang pagdating! Good evening and welcome to the 27th annual Pilipino Cultural Night, “Sayawan,” proudly presented by the Pilipino Cultural Exchange of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo! Thank you for joining us as we strive to keep the Filipino culture alive and strong throughout our campus and San Luis Obispo as a whole. Pilipino Cultural Night provides a way for PCE’s members to showcase their strength, love, and passion for acting, dancing, singing, family and, most importantly, culture.
In tonight’s show, you will see many allusions and interpretations of actual and existing entities in connection with the Filipino culture, including traditional dances, localities, language, costumes and OUTFITS, and more. Please keep in mind that while we try to keep all cultural references as authentic as possible, all such cultural showcases in tonight’s production are merely interpretations, and have been adapted to fiFIt our theatrical and entertainment purposes. Thank you, and we hope you enjoy the show!
booklet: pilipino cultural night
The Pilipino Cultural Exchange acts as a huge support system and family for every single member, earning its motto of being “a home away from home.” Through social, intimate, academic, and many more types of events, members can be close with each other, expressing themselves with no boundaries or judgments. PCE provides a home that students can look to in times of need, celebration, studying, or just about anything. Tonight, we show how much of a family we really are, with every member supporting each other on- and off-stage to present the best possible performance for our wonderful community. I would like to take this time to thank you, the beautiful audience joining us this evening, for showing such a tremendous amount of support by coming from all over California to see our production. Keeping PCN alive and full of “PCNergy” would not be possible without everyone -- friends, family, general members, alumni, community members, students -- cheering us on from the crowd. Mom and dad, thank you for driving up just to see this, and thank you so much for everything you do for me from hundreds of miles away. Love you guys. I want to give the biggest thank you ever to the PCN coordinators this year: Alyssa Mangaoang, Anne Bone, and Jasmine Mae Viera. You three wrote an incredible script, brought together an outstanding cast, broke social norms, and created one of the most amazing Pilipino Cultural Nights possible. I know I can speak for your entire cast, tech crew, and performing groups when I say thank you so much for all of your hard work, late nights, constructive criticism, creativity, and overall leadership. We hope we make you proud, and we hope all of you cry (tears of joy, of course) because you three deserve the best production you could have hoped for. I would also like to thank my Executive Board: Serena Brown, Jeremy Watson, and Maya Manzano. I could not have asked for anyone better to be by my side this entire school year. You three have supported me through all of my ups and downs on this rollercoaster of a year. I don’t know what I would have done without you guys. And my beautiful, beautiful, b-e-a-u-tiful staff. I love you all so much, I can’t even begin to express how proud I am of all of you for being so amazing all throughout the year. None of our events or meetings would have been possible without you, and who would be showing so much love to all of our general members if it weren’t for you. Thank you so much exec and staff for everything you’ve done for me, for PCE, and for Cal Poly. Finally, I want to thank all of our performers in this year’s PCN. If it’s your first time experiencing PCN, I hope you’ve come to realize what we were talking about when we said it will be some of the longest, most difficult nights of your college career, but it will all be worth it in the end. Have so much fun up there on that stage, and show everyone what you’ve got in that spotlight. To those PCN veterans up on the stage, you know what to do, and thank you for proving that PCN is something you can’t miss year after year. This PCN is truly special due to all the wonderful performers PCE has. And with that, I would like to say salamat sa lahat, and enjoy the show!
