VIA ALPINA
The Königsweg is 73 km long and can be hiked start to finish in under four days. This is one of the most imposing paths in the Hochkönig region. The tour begins at the foot of the Steinernes Meer, then leads alongside the Hochkönig before continuing across the gentle Dientner Grasberge mountains. The Königsweg takes you through the three villages of Maria Alm, Dienten and Mühlbach – each on its own, and in combination, a very special experience. Here, tradition and modernity unite to create an idyll that is practically beyond compare.
The Via Alpina is an impressive hiking path that spans the entire arc of the Alps. Setting out from Trieste, it leads through eight Alpine countries all the way to Monaco. 3 daily stages lead through the Hochkönig region alone. In the process, you reach almost 3,000 metres above sea level, hike through remote alpine villages, and take breaks at beautiful mountain huts and hill farms with incredible views.

ALPINE SUMMER HERB-HIKE PROGRAM BACK TO NATURE
Thursday 25.06.2015 Individual arrival in the Hochkönig Region; either Maria Alm, Dienten or Mühlbach. Enjoy the first day of your holiday as you explore your chosen vacation destination and the local countryside. Friday 26.06.2015 Guided hike with an expert herbalist to the Muasbachalm, where you can enjoy breakfast and see how cheese is made. Your host, Anita, will provide you with some insights into how various cheeses are manufactured. With your tummy now full and happy, the herb hike continues to the next hut for a herbal cooking class, during which you will also learn about various uses for alpine herbs. Together you will prepare a 3-course herbal meal, then enjoy it as you gaze out at the marvelous scenery Saturday 27.06.2015 Early in the morning, the Sunrise Hike to the top of the Ahornstein will set out. After a short downhill hike, you will reach the Königsbergalm and enjoy a well-earned hill-country breakfast. Afterwards, you will return by taxi to Maria Alm and the “Herb Paradise” run by Rosi Rainer at the Obersteghof. During a tour of the herb garden, you will get to know a variety of garden herbs with healing powers. During the workshop that follows, you will receive tips and instructions for preparing your own ointments and creams, and then it will be time to hike with the herb expert to two different herb huts, the Arbesreit and Hinterjetzbach.
