appy new year and welcome to our February issue of Eastside. This month is our ‘Confetti’ wedding special and in this issue we will be looking at businesses that can help your big day run without a hitch. We focus on fashion and beauty, look at the trends that are going to be big (or small in some cases) in 2021 and put some Champagnes to the test. Elsewhere we go bold in our Home and Garden section with Pantone’s colours of the year and get the latest motoring news. Next month we’ll be focusing on food and fitness, although not necessarily at the same time. See you then.

Enjoy your conservatory all year round SAGARS’ REVOLUTIONARY 365 CONSERVATORY ROOF INSULATION SYSTEM KEEPS CONSERVATORIES WARM IN WINTER AND COOL IN SUMMER. onservatories have long been a desirable addition to the home but too often become neglected parts of the house if they’re too cold in winter and too hot in summer. But what if that could change? Sagars’ 365 conservatory roof insulation system can transform your conservatory and make it into a room you can use all year round . At this time of year it’s all about keeping warm and Sagars’ insulation system, originally believed to have been inspired by NASA, can do just that, as well as keeping you super cool in summer. The insulation is built up of complex layers of aluminium foil and insulation that is perfect for insulating conservatory roofs, reducing heat loss by about 95 per cent and keeping the heat out in summer. It’s finished with brilliant white tongue and groove insulated pvc panels to give a maintenance-free bright appearance. Using the 365 insulation system, Sagars, a family-based Yorkshire company, have been turning hundreds of draughty unused conservatories into rooms that can be used for any purpose, all year round. VAT is charged at five per cent as this type of insulation comes under the government’s energy savings rate. The cost of a 365 system is far less than you might think, with a 3m x 3m conservatory typically costing around £1,699 including VAT, fitting and comes with a ten-year guarantee. All work is completed in the day, following government social distancing guidelines to keep customers and fitters safe.

TRUSTPILOT FIVE-STAR REVIEWS: “What can I say apart from excellent. They arrived on time, did an excellent job, when finished left it as clean and tidy as it was when they arrived. It looks really good, very pleased and impressed with the quality of the work. Can’t believe how warm it is already. If you are thinking about it like I was, just get it done, you won’t regret it. Will definitely recommend.” Dawn, 5 January 2021 “Great company to do business with. Had my conservatory clad and now it’s a cosy functioning space. The two guys who attended were really nice and just got on with it and cleaned up after themselves. Great price too. Would definitely recommend.” Elaine, 8 January 2021 For more reviews, please search Trustpilot.

your comfort, and in some style too. Whether you are looking for a luxury fireplace, a gas or electric fire or stove with a complete fitting service, they can meet all your heating needs. The Balby Road showroom, although currently closed due to Covid restrictions, has over 40 live fires and fireplaces on show and friendly staff are always on hand to guide you every step of the way. Whilst the showroom is closed - hopefully not for too long - the team are still on hand taking orders and installing in homes throughout the region. “We know everything there is to know about heating your home and creating a warm and inviting focal point for your house, and we are happy to share our knowledge and expertise,” said managing director Claire Davies. “Fireplaces are the focal point of any living space and offer much more than just warmth. They can frame stoves and fires, and are the centrepiece of a home. “We offer a fantastic selection of gas, electric, wood-burning and multi-fuel fires and stoves in contemporary and traditional styles,” added Claire. “At this time you can browse our website for a brief insight into what we have on offer. your own individual requirement using a range of materials such as stone, marble, granite or wood.” A gas fire is one of the most convenient and heat efficient ways to add warmth to any room whilst electric fires are easy to install and maintain. Heritage stock electric fires that are high quality with a range of flame effects including LED giving a real flame look. Stoves and wood burners are becoming ever more popular, partly due to their new stylish look, and partly due to the excellent fuel efficiency that they provide. Heritage offer a selection of stoves in both traditional and contemporary styles, including electric, gas, wood and multi-fuel stoves, from brands including Broseley, Aduro, A.C.R., Hunter & Acquisitions of London. To complement this extensive range they offer a home survey service where one of their professional HETAS engineers can visit you to give professional advice. All of the stoves they have on display are DEFRA approved which is important if you live in a smoke-free zone. And Heritage Fireplaces’ services don’t end there. They also carry out central heating installations and servicing and repairs for residential home owners, landlords and contractors. All work is

If you are considering having a new central heating system installed, they offer a home central heating survey where one of their engineers will visit you to discuss your requirements and also offer free no obligation quotations. “At Heritage, we’ve got home heating all covered,” said Claire. “We can supply, install and service and are very proud that we have a very loyal following of long term and returning customers. The showroom is always evolving as I am constantly on the lookout for new products to display as trends change over time. “We are currently building a brand new website which will allow our customers to view our products online as well as in store. A question of taste THERE ARE SOME OCCASIONS WHEN YOU CAN’T GET AWAY WITH PROSECCO WEDDINGS AND VALENTINE’S DAYS ARE NOT COMPLETE WITHOUT THE BUBBLY INDULGENCE OF CHAMPAGNE. BUT WHERE TO FIND THE FINEST? WE PUT A MAGNIFICENT SEVEN TO THE TEST. t’s the essential ingredient for moments of triumph in life, whether you’ve just won the grand prix, passed your exams, or seen your favourite bar liberated from lockdown. We’re talking about Champagne of course, once the preserve of the favoured few, now a mass-market product. But even though just about every supermarket stocks it and most even have their own label, it still evokes luxury wherever you find it, The arguments about the merits of the various brands have been going on ever since the monk Dom Perignon begat his new creation to the world. The very top houses today can command eye-watering prices. Take Krug, for instance, by general consensus king of the hill. When my daughters were born, I decided to try a variant to the old tradition of putting down cases of port for a new son, the

idea being that it is perfectly aged when he’s old enough to drink it. Instead, I put down a case of 1988 vintage Krug for each daughter with the promise that they could either drink it or sell it when they reached the age of 18. It cost me £600 for each case. As soon as the first one passed the big birthday, I looked into what it was worth. The first broker I spoke to offered me £2,500 per case. And her decision? Why, to drink it of course, with her new university chums. At a value of just over £70 per glass.

Our thanks to our panellists: Simon Carr Jane Harrigan Rebecca Thompson Kate Mallinson Geoff Norman Georgina Revitt

Student parties were never like that in my day. With such an array of choice open to buyers, there is a tendency to believe that you get what you pay for – so the more expensive it is, the better it is. As part of this journal’s continuing search for the truth come what may, we decided to put that theorem to the test. We chose seven candidate bottles, then had a call round a random set of readers to assemble a jury. “Would you like to drink Champagne all afternoon for free?” we asked. They would. Step forward six good men and women true. The brief was simple. The panel would be given a taste of seven different bottles, their identities hidden from view. They could award up to 10 points to each one, and comment if the urge took them. So were there any surprises in store? See for yourself as we reveal the results of our 2021 test of the best.

029 ESide Feb21 26/01/2021 13:42 Page 1

And the winners are… 1st place

WINNER

Brigitte Delmotte NV (Sunday Times Wine Club £35 a bottle or £29.99 for orders of 12 bottles or more) Scoring a massive 56 out of a possible 60 points, this newcomer was our hands-down winner. Our panel was left struggling for superlatives to pour out in praise of it. “In a word, perfect balance” said Geoff, clearly so overcome that he didn’t notice it was two words. “Scrumeeee! I love it” was Jane’s verdict. “It must be one of the most expensive?” By no means, as it turned out. As we later revealed to our jurors, their verdict is shared by some authorities on Champagne, who have awarded it a string of gold medals.

2nd

Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut (Aldi £12.99) The big surprise of the tasting, taking runner-up spot with 49 points. Rebecca deemed it “everything a Champagne should be – fresh, clean tasting… delicious”. There were gasps when we revealed the identity of the bottle, and even more when we announced the price.

5th

Nicholas Feuillatte (Tesco, £20) Found some fans on the panel, with Kate and Georgina both praising it as “refreshing” and “seriously drinkable” while others including Simon found it “a little too acidic for my liking”. A decision from a divided house brought in score of 42/60.

3rd

Veuve Cliquot yellow label (Harvey Nichols Leeds £46.50) It must be dangerous being a man in the Champagne business if our tasting was any indicator. Not one, but two widows feature among our top three. These formidable ladies must know their stuff. “Full- bodied Champagne with a lovely nose” said Simon. 47/60 points.

6th

Heidsieck Monopole Brut (Majestic £27.99) Generally underwhelmed our panellists, some of whom found it rather acidic with an unpleasant aftertaste. Kate even went so far as to say “it gives me heartburn”. For their part, the panel gave it 34 out of 60.

4th

Krug Grande Cuvee (Around £165 online) Krug is the self-proclaimed king of Champagne, but it received a muted welcome from our jury, who gave it 44 out of 60. “Nice enough but nothing special”, noted Kate, who later realised she could have a case of our second-placed Champagne for the price of one bottle.

7th

Delacourt Brut (M&S £25) Oh dear, oh dear. There was something amiss with this bottle. It was evident as soon as we opened it that the wine was oxidised, with a tell-tale shrivelled cork. Only two jurors even tasted it and deemed it “revolting” and “undrinkable”. 0/60. Eastside | www.eastsidemag.co.uk 29

Take the initiative WHAT WILL WEDDINGS LOOK LIKE IN 2021 AND WHAT WILL BE THE BIG TRENDS? WE GET SOME EXPERT ADVICE. he joys of getting married were really put to the test last year as the Covid pandemic lead to ceremonies being cancelled, postponed or greatly reduced in size. This effect is set to continue into this year with wedding trends for 2021 greatly influenced by the events of the last year or so. Here we look at some of the predicted trends for the coming year, with a little help from Lucy Plummer at the Vine Hotels Group.

T

Micro weddings When weddings resume - we’re being positive here - just how many guests will you be able to invite? Smaller ceremonies became the norm in 2020 and these intimate occasions, often with less than 20 guests, are set to continue. In most cases, it will come down to government constraints, but for a lot, the reasoning will be that couples simply want to scale back to just the few family and friends they can’t live without – lockdown has been a period of reflection for many about what’s truly important. “Smaller ceremonies are always so intimate and special, so we can imagine a lot more couples in the future might opt for this even after the restrictions have been lifted,” said Lucy. “However, we know that once the rules allow, a lot of couples will want to have a big celebration with all of their family and friends so larger ceremonies will always be popular.”

Keep things local Lockdown has put a huge strain on the UK economy and, in 2021, we’re going to see more couples choose to keep it local and support their local businesses, be they suppliers, bridal boutiques or caterers. It’s a sentiment echoed by Lucy Plummer: “I think as people become more and more environmentally conscious, there will be a greater emphasis on keeping things local when it comes to suppliers. Particularly with flowers, over the past few years we have seen couples opt for a florist where the flowers are grown locally.” Eastside | www.eastsidemag.co.uk 31

Weekday weddings Guests can expect to see an influx of invites to weekday weddings in 2021, due in part to the build-up of 2020 weddings which have spilled over into 2021, but also budget considerations for couples who’ve been more stretched than expected. Hiring venues and suppliers is cheaper on weekdays and there’s more likely to be availability. “Weekday weddings have always been popular, however we think this trend will grow and grow,” concurred Lucy. “There tends to be more special offers available on Monday-Thursday dates plus a lot of suppliers offer discounts too. With lots of wedding postponements happening from 2020, the diaries for 2021 and beyond are looking full so we feel more people will opt for a mid-week wedding rather than prolonging the engagement.”

Sustainability Efforts to make weddings sustainable are great ideas for all couples to adopt: arrange a tree planting party for your guests to reduce their carbon footprint; keep food miles down by opting for locally grown meat and vegetables or a vegan menu; serve local beers, wines and spirits; and choose a venue with a beautiful backdrop that doesn’t require lavish decoration that will end up in landfill.

A return to tradition Weddings will go back to their heart: making treasured memories with friends and family. Experts across the wedding industry are predicting tradition to be a defining feature of 2021 weddings, from timeless dresses to nostalgic fragrances and traditional speeches. 34 Eastside | www.eastsidemag.co.uk

Hollywood glamour Following months of elasticated waistbands, couples and their guests will want to go all-out for 2021 weddings. As well as statement and sparkling accessories, expect photo-perfect hair and makeup as we make up for lost photo opportunities. Many people will have had to cancel holidays so will be turning to the salon for a sun-kissed look and a bronzed goddess glow to cap their glamorous look.

Pastel colours A palette of soothing shades are set to dominate this year’s celebrations. Think gorgeous lilac, pastel pink, yellow and peach tulips and sweet peas, with a pop of colour such as orange or coral, and stationery of complementing colours too. “In terms of décor trends, a prediction is that pastel colours will become popular for weddings in 2021,” said Lucy. “Another trend is that ‘acts of gratitude’ will be an important part of the wedding day, couples will want to thank guests for attending their wedding and express their appreciation of them. This could be done be a personalised note on the place setting, a drinks voucher to have a special toast with, or a personalised wedding favour.”

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Carpal tunnel syndrome is a really common condition which can cause pins and needles in your palm, thumb, index, middle and ring fingers. Often this is worse at night, waking you up, and can only be relieved by hanging your arm over the edge of the bed or shaking it around. Some cases are mild and only cause occasional discomfort, whilst in others, the pain can be constant and very debilitating.

Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Injury Specialists

Consultant Profile Hand & Wrist Specialist

The condition is caused by a compression of the median nerve at the wrist where it passes through a space shared with nine tendons called the carpal tunnel. Not all cases of carpal tunnel require surgery. In more mild cases, a splint can be used or a steroid injection given into the carpal tunnel itself. However, if the compression is causing you to lose power and function in your hand, it is best managed with a small operation. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic without a tourniquet and takes about fifteen minutes to complete. Surgery around nerves is very delicate and so special microscopic glasses are worn to ensure the best result possible. The wound usually heals within 10-12 days and during that time you won’t be able to drive. Carpal tunnel surgery is very successful and most patients return back to their usual activities within a few weeks.

Trigger Finger Dan graduated from the University of Leeds in 2005 and began his surgical career training in the hospitals around West Yorkshire. In 2011, he joined the orthopaedic rotation in South Yorkshire and completed his FRCS in 2015. After discovering his passion for hand surgery, he undertook the prestigious Advanced Training Post Fellowship at the world-renowned Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby. To advance his skills in microsurgery, he also spent time in the microsurgical unit at Ganga Hospital, India. In 2018, Dan joined Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals as a Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon. Providing excellent care for his patients is Dan’s number one priority and he prides himself in keeping up to date with the latest evidenced-based practice. He aims to perform many of the procedures normally performed under general anaesthetic under local anaesthetic and is forever pushing the boundaries of hand surgery for the benefit of his patients and their surgical journey. Dan understands the importance of a quick recovery and all procedures he performs are done as a day case. Dan performs all aspects of hand and wrist surgery, including wrist arthroscopy and small joint replacement. He believes in looking after all of the small details in all areas of his work, so from the first consultation, to the final stitch, you can rest assured he will be taking great care of you.

Trigger finger is a condition where one of your fingers or your thumb gets stuck in a flexed position in your palm. The finger, can usually be forced out straight again, but it is very painful to do this yourself. In some cases, the finger doesn’t get stuck, but clicks when making a fist and is often sore when trying to grip objects. Symptoms are usually worse first thing in the morning and ease as the day progresses. Trigger finger is caused by inflammation and damage to the tendon which causes it to swell. When the finger is flexed into the palm, the tendon gets stuck as it tries to pass through a small tunnel called the A1 pulley. In the majority of cases, a steroid injection into the tendon sheath will stop the triggering permanently but occasionally a small operation to divide the pulley is required. Like carpal tunnel surgery, the operation is performed under local anaesthetic and takes about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. All our carpal tunnel and trigger finger surgery can be performed at the Briars Clinic, so you don’t even have to step foot inside a hospital. The procedure costs £1350 and £200 for the initial consultation (not applicable if procedure is undertaken). If you think you may have either of these conditions or any other problem with your hands and would like to find out more about your options then please give Coriel Orthopaedic Group a call.

What is MediSculpt Therapy? G&M HEALTHCARE CAN HELP YOU ACHIEVE YOUR WEIGHT LOSS GOALS. ediSculpt Therapy is a non-surgical, very low calorie weight loss program which can combat obesity and some chronic medical conditions like type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, high cholesterol, hypertension and sleep apnoea. Medisculpt Therapy comprises of three main components; the diet, which is based on high protein foods with low carbohydrate and low fat contents, and two body contouring treatments – LPG Endermologie and Vanquish MeTM or Exilis Elite machines. The body contouring treatment LPG Endermologie is used for skin tightening in order to prevent the development of loose and sagging skin during and after the rapid weight loss. The second body contouring machine is a radio frequency machine for body fat reduction. G&M Healthcare has both of these machines and the choice of which one to use depends on the treatment package and area of the body requiring treatment. The radio frequency machines result in a significant fat reduction in targeted areas like the tummy, thighs or arms. These treatments are carried out weekly by fully-trained therapists and last about 30-40 minutes each. In total you need about 75-90 minutes per week for your treatments. Weight loss with MediSculpt Therapy is safe, efficient and rapid. The weight loss progress is constantly monitored by a qualified GP and fully trained therapists who check weight loss progress, blood pressure, body fat content, metabolic rates and do blood tests on a regular basis. With regard to the results, they know from experience that a female patient will typically lose one stone a month and a male patient will typically lose one to one and a half stones a month. MediSculpt Therapy consists of six phases, which deliver amazing, safe, efficient and sustainable weight loss. During phase 1 of MediSculpt Therapy the diet comprises of five meals and one snack a day. Protein foods are filling, hence patients don’t feel hungry. To supplement the diet some fruit and vegetables are also allowed on the diet. G&M Healthcare also do metabolic tests to check your metabolic rates and also provide supplements to ensure you don’t lack in essential minerals like magnesium, potassium, sodium chloride, calcium and trace minerals. Once the phase 1 target is achieved after losing about 70 per cent of your target weight, patients are moved onto phase 2 where ‘normal foods’, like weighed amounts of chicken, meat, fish and diary like eggs, are introduced. Once 90 per cent of your target weight loss is achieved patients are weaned to measured amounts of normal eating on phase 3. Thereafter phases 4-6 are stabilisation phases to ensure that optimum weaning off from the diet is achieved without putting on back the weight you have lost. After the stabilisation phase there is a life-long maintenance programme where G&M Healthcare six weekly follow ups for review by a therapist who measures your weight and body fat composition. Follow up is then 3-6 monthly for one year or as required thereafter.

M

Kerry Norris Lost 7st on Medisculpt Therapy The cost of the program depends on the package you choose. There are three price packages – basic, standard and deluxe. All consist of your consultation fee (£100) and blood test fee (£100) followed by the package fees. Supplement prices are £50/month but vary depending on the package you choose. The basic package is £125/week for only food. The standard package is £250/week for food and body contouring treatments with LPG Endermologie and Vanquish or Exilis Elite. The deluxe package is £300/week and includes food, body contouring treatments, supplements, 4 weekly reviews and blood tests. Recent studies from the Diabetes Remission Clinical Trial (DiRECT), published by G Thom et al in Glasgow in collaboration with the NHS in September this year and by Yiqoao Xin et al in May 2020, have shown that very low calorie diets can cause remission in people with early type 2 Diabetes Mellitus of less than six years since onset. The programme is now being rolled out on a bigger trial of 5,000 people in the UK. MOTORING

SOLID AND SPORTY SUVS ARE COMPLEMENTED BY AN 1,800HP ROCKET IN THIS MONTH’S NEWS, WRITES JORDAN CUTFORTH.

Increase the pace The combination of sports/supercar performance in a huge SUV body on paper shouldn’t work, however its appeal has never been greater, and the introduction of the Jaguar F-Pace SVR has certainly showed that. Under the hood lies the infamous 542hp 5.0-litre supercharged V8 developing 700NM of torque. Reaching 62mph from a standstill takes 3.8 seconds and the SVR will reach a top speed of 178mph. Jaguar’s 5.0-litre V8 isn’t known for its fuel economy, and this is apparent here; a combined figure of 23.1mpg is claimed, though don’t expect to achieve this, and it produces 275g/km of CO2. Revisions over the previous SVR model include upgraded braking, new interior, redesigned exterior and upgraded tech. Available to order now with prices start from £77,595.

Cheap champion

World’s fastest? With a 1,817hp twin-turbocharged V8 engine, not only is the Hennessey F5 Venom the most powerful road-going production car in the world, it’s claimed to the fastest production car ever created. For those who are not familiar with Hennessey, they are one of the largest independent automotive tuning companies. Their first car was the 2011 Venom GT, which was based on a heavily modified variant of the Lotus Exige. The F5 Venom is the first car to be designed in house and from the ground-up. Weighing in at 1360kg, and the 1,817hp engine powering the rearwheels, the F5 Venom will achieve 062mph in 2.6 seconds, 0-124mph in 4.7 seconds, and 0-186mph in 8.4 seconds! Hennessey targets a top speed in excess of 311mph. 46 Eastside | www.eastsidemag.co.uk

The Dacia Sandero has been the nation’s undisputed champion of cheap motoring since it’s introduction to the UK back in 2008. This new fourth-generation variant is no different. Starting from £7,995, the Sandero is remarkable value for money for those who want a car simply to travel from A to B. For that price, you get automatic LED headlights with Y-shaped LED daytime running lights, 15-inch steel wheels, front electric windows, speed limiter, phone docking station, Automatic Emergency Braking and six airbags. For the more jacked-up, rugged, utilitarian Sandero Stepway, prices start from £10,995 and include 16-inch Flexwheels, tinted windows, LED headlights, front fog lights and black roof bars on the outside as standard.

Solid and reliable The Hyundai Tuscon has been the go-to dependable SUV for the South Korean brand. The Tuscon is for those wanting a solid, reliable SUV without wanting to spend the extra on more premium brand offerings. The new Tucson range comprises three high-specification models: SE Connect, Premium and Ultimate and is offered with 1.6-litre petrol or petrol-hybrid powertrains. Engines range between 148hp to 227hp. A plug-in-hybrid variant will be available from early 2021 and will have 261hp. As standard, the Tuscon in SE Connect trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, and body-coloured bumpers. Interior features include a leather steering wheel and gear knob, dual-zone air conditioning, cruise control, heated and folding door mirrors, rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera. Prices start from £28,495. Available now.

Hotter hatch For the hot-hatch lovers out there, Hyundai has developed a new hatch from the skunkworks of its N-division. Say hello to the i20 N. The i30 N was a nutter of a car, if it was human is would almost certainly have an ASBO. Think of the i20 N as the annoying little brother following in its big brother’s footsteps. Not much word on the powertrain or performance details, however we do know that the styling has been inspired by the i20 WRC rally car, meaning it’s going to look like a hothatch should, and sounds just as you would expect. Like the i30 N, expect a manual to be offered for the real driving enthusiasts to which this car is catered towards.

Right price The SUV offerings from Peugeot have always been a solid alternative to the usually crop you get from the Germans. With their great styling and plethora of technology on offer they provide a car that’s hard to ignore in this sector of the market. Peugeot has now announced the pricing and specification of their new 3008 and 5008 ranges. With a choice of efficient petrol and diesel powertrains including a choice of two plugin hybrids on the 3008 model producing figures of 235mpg WLTP, prices will range from £27,160-£47,210 for the 3008 and £29,585-£40,905 for the 5008. A six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic gearbox are offered in both cars, however the two advanced plug-in hybrid powertrains are only available in the 3008.

Electric first For years the Skoda Octavia VRS has been the staple for allround everyday performance motoring, ranging from the hardworking blue-collar family man’s workhorse to the traffic cop’s undercover stealth machine. Never has there been an electric version, up until now – under the hood lies a 148hp 1.4 TSI petrol engine, which combined with an 85kW electric motor boosts power to 242hp and 400Nm of torque. From 50-70mph this is 2.2 seconds quicker than the ordinary petrol variant. A combined economy figure of 176.6mpg is quoted as is a CO2 figure of 26g/km. This can drive up to 39 miles on electric-only propulsion. Hatch and estate variants are offered, front-wheel drive only and powered through a six-speed DSG gearbox. Prices start from £35,020.

Hot Spur If you’re in the market for a car that can transport you, your partner and two kids in exquisite luxury, comfort, and speed then the Bentley Flying Spur will arguably be at the top of your shopping list. The Flying Spur is Bentley’s finest take on producing one of the best saloon cars ever made. Now though, like the Continental GT, the Flying Spur can now be powered by a 542hp 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine as an option to the 6.0-litre W12 which is synonymous with Bentley cars. The V8 is targeted to a more driver-focussed demographic as the V8 is 100kg lighter than the W12 iterant making for a more agile and responsive and enthralling drive. Deliveries due at the end of 2020. Eastside | www.eastsidemag.co.uk 47

IN BRIEF

Free online dance classes

Keeping the music playing The touring season may have been halted by the COVID-19 pandemic but the music carries on for opera singer Nicola Mills. Nicola is one of the team of professional musicians working with Lost Chord, the South Yorkshire charity that provides vital interactive musical sessions for people living with dementia in care homes and day centres across the region and nationally. As the pandemic tightened its grip, the charity was forced to put its busy weekly schedule of concerts on hold indefinitely. But the singing and playing has continued to reach out via free YouTube, Twitter and Facebook sessions. And Nicola has also been performing a series of outdoor events, singing outside homes, at a safe social distance from residents and staff. It’s nothing new to the operatic soprano who actually prefers the outdoors to the many opera house stages where she has performed during her career. To find out more about Lost Chord, its work, how to become involved or to book a session with the Lost Chord musicians visit lost-chord.org.uk or call 01709 811160.

We are so grateful to Sine FM for giving us this slot. The feature will be 10 minutes long and will include 3 upbeat tracks to get you moving! Tiny Toes Ballet, which holds children’s dance classes in North Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire, is offering all children free online classes to help support parents and teachers who are home schooling due to lockdown. Its eight-week course of classes combines drama, dance, cookery and more, and is aimed at children aged seven and under. The free programme provides online weekly activities including Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) activities, supported by downloadable educational resources for parents. Michaela Young, who runs the North Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire Tiny Toes Ballet franchise, says she is delighted to be able to help keep the nation’s children learning through lockdown. “With new classes opening in both Worksop and Retford I am super excited to bring the Tiny Toes magic to so many little ones,” she says. “When we are able to, we will be holding our free taster sessions which have been super popular and sell out quickly. Until then I am excited to announce that I will be hosting these online sessions to give families a taste of what Tiny Toes has to offer.”

Improved welcome darts (Doncaster’s participatory arts organisation) is making some upgrades to its building,The Point, to ensure an improved welcome once the doors can open to the public again. The Point has been closed to the general public since March last year, but building work is currently underway to make some big changes so the reception area becomes more accessible, friendly and welcoming. The Point is located in central Doncaster opposite the Regent Hotel on South Parade. The project, which is being funded by grants from FCC Communities Foundation and The Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation, will create a new ramped entrance to the building to open up the space and remove barriers so there is more room for people to get in and out, and for social distancing. The Point will also be given a fresh coat of paint and new signage both outside and throughout the building to help people get around. Visit www.thepoint.org.uk to find out more.
