Crémant is simply a French sparkling wine made with the same technique as Champagne, but from outside the Champagne region. Take the initiative WHAT WILL WEDDINGS LOOK LIKE IN 2021 AND WHAT WILL BE THE BIG TRENDS? WE GET SOME EXPERT ADVICE. he joys of getting married were really put to the test last year as the Covid pandemic lead to ceremonies being cancelled, postponed or greatly reduced in size. This effect is set to continue into this year with wedding trends for 2021 greatly influenced by the events of the last year or so. Here we look at some of the predicted trends for the coming year, with a little help from Lucy Plummer at the Vine Hotels Group.

Micro weddings When weddings resume - we’re being positive here - just how many guests will you be able to invite? Smaller ceremonies became the norm in 2020 and these intimate occasions, often with less than 20 guests, are set to continue. In most cases, it will come down to government constraints, but for a lot, the reasoning will be that couples simply want to scale back to just the few family and friends they can’t live without – lockdown has been a period of reflection for many about what’s truly important. “Smaller ceremonies are always so intimate and special, so we can imagine a lot more couples in the future might opt for this even after the restrictions have been lifted,” said Lucy. “However, we know that once the rules allow, a lot of couples will want to have a big celebration with all of their family and friends so larger ceremonies will always be popular.”

Keep things local Lockdown has put a huge strain on the UK economy and, in 2021, we’re going to see more couples choose to keep it local and support their local businesses, be they suppliers, bridal boutiques or caterers. It’s a sentiment echoed by Lucy Plummer: “I think as people become more and more environmentally conscious, there will be a greater emphasis on keeping things local when it comes to suppliers. Weekday weddings Guests can expect to see an influx of invites to weekday weddings in 2021, due in part to the build-up of 2020 weddings which have spilled over into 2021, but also budget considerations for couples who’ve been more stretched than expected. Hiring venues and suppliers is cheaper on weekdays and there’s more likely to be availability. “Weekday weddings have always been popular, however we think this trend will grow and grow,” concurred Lucy. “There tends to be more special offers available on Monday-Thursday dates plus a lot of suppliers offer discounts too. With lots of wedding postponements happening from 2020, the diaries for 2021 and beyond are looking full so we feel more people will opt for a mid-week wedding rather than prolonging the engagement.”

Sustainability Efforts to make weddings sustainable are great ideas for all couples to adopt: arrange a tree planting party for your guests to reduce their carbon footprint; keep food miles down by opting for locally grown meat and vegetables or a vegan menu; serve local beers, wines and spirits; and choose a venue with a beautiful backdrop that doesn’t require lavish decoration that will end up in landfill.

A return to tradition Weddings will go back to their heart: making treasured memories with friends and family. Experts across the wedding industry are predicting tradition to be a defining feature of 2021 weddings, from timeless dresses to nostalgic fragrances and traditional speeches.

Hollywood glamour Following months of elasticated waistbands, couples and their guests will want to go all-out for 2021 weddings. As well as statement and sparkling accessories, expect photoperfect hair and makeup as we make up for lost photo opportunities. Many people will have had to cancel holidays so will be turning to the salon for a sun-kissed look and a bronzed goddess glow to cap their glamorous look.

Pastel colours A palette of soothing shades are set to dominate this year’s celebrations. Think gorgeous lilac, pastel pink, yellow and peach tulips and sweet peas, with a pop of colour such as orange or coral, and stationery of complementing colours too. “In terms of décor trends, a prediction is that pastel colours will become popular for weddings in 2021,” said Lucy. “Another trend is that ‘acts of gratitude’ will be an important part of the wedding day, couples will want to thank guests for attending their wedding and express their appreciation of them. This could be done be a personalised note on the place setting, a drinks voucher to have a special toast with, or a personalised wedding favour.”

What is MediSculpt Therapy? Weight loss with MediSculpt Therapy is safe, efficient and rapid. Residents at two Sheffield care homes are going green thanks to a special donation from homes and furnishing specialist Ikea. Housteads Residential Care Home in Richmond and Deerlands in Parson Cross - both part of the chain of ten care homes operated across the city by charity Sheffcare - each received donations of houseplants from Ikea, which has its Sheffield store at Meadowhall. “We are delighted that Ikea thought of us and were so generous with these wonderful gifts,” said Sheffcare chief executive Belinda Black. “Our residents have seen much less of the outside world throughout the past year so this lovely gesture really does bring the outside in and will add a splash of much appreciated colour homes.”

Alana Habergham-Rice, has released her first cookery book on the back of her baking success, with profits going towards supporting Sheffield Hospitals Charity. Alana, who is 13 and has autism, has been baking her Caring Cakes for seven years – all to cheer people up and raise money for charity. She chooses nominated people to bake for, all of whom are facing challenges in their life and then delivers the stunning cakes with her Mum. After years of creating the most beautiful bakes, Alana has written and released her own cook book ‘Cakes to make you smile, from the heart of Sheffield’. Alana has been fundraising for Sheffield Hospitals Charity for several years, in order to thank local hospitals for the care that they showed her close friend, Nick Challenger, in his recent battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Now, following the release of her book, Alana is dedicating the proceeds to Sheffield Hospitals Charity, who will receive £4.50 from every book sold. Sheffield Theatres has announced that due to the current restrictions, The Band Plays On, a new play by Chris Bush, and Escaped Alone, by Caryl Churchill, will be rescheduled. The productions will go ahead behind closed doors and will be filmed and shared online. The Open Submissions programme which was set to bring a range of local artists and companies to perform on the Crucible stage, will be rescheduled to later in the spring. Details of when The Band Plays On and Escaped Alone will be made available to watch online will be released in due course. In the meantime, customers who had booked to see the shows on the Crucible stage will be contacted by the Box Office.

Whatever format you enjoy a drink, a beer experience can always be enhanced through accompanying with the correct glass, temperature, snack or food. This doesn’t have to be a five-star meal in a fancy restaurant or cooking up a large time-consuming dish, instead this could be as simple as a pub snack, sweet or takeaway. So what are our favourite combinations? One of our favourites is to sit down with a strong IPA and tuck into a steak or BBQ. The citrus or herbal tones that work great with an initial bitterness of an IPA are great when partnered with the meaty dishes of this kind. We find that a pie partnered with a deep porter also provides a great supporting act as the deep flavours of the porter pair well with the similarity of game meats or vegetables. A light lager with spicy food or burgers helps to clear the palate and provide a refreshing break between each mouthful.You can also enhance the taste of chocolate with a dark Stout that also usually takes favours from rich chocolate with a smooth taste. A Blonde, accompanied by a stone baked pizza, will really showcase the flavours of both parties as well again providing a refreshing pause between bites. Finally, bar snacks like crisps and nuts with a Pilsner are one to try as they help to cleanse the palate and offer a crisp, refreshing relief against the saltiness.

Visionary Brewmaster’s picks for February: BOOZEHOUND, SHEFFIELD/THE PLOUGH INN, DERBYSHIRE Boozehound was created in 2015 as a craft beer company looking to seek and support local independent brewers to find out what it is they wanted to achieve in the already very competitive craft market. They started with smaller trade stalls at country shows and Christmas markets before opening their Boozehound craft bar in Sheffield’s Kelham Island Cutlery Works, selling a great range of local craft beers, as well as hosting events including beer and food pairings, rare bottle tastings, beer festivals and even the odd beer pong tournament! “We would like to thank all our amazing customers in Sheffield for their kind messages of support during these tough times, has really cheered us up and kept us going!” said Martin, one of the owners of Boozehound. The owners of Boozehound defiantly saw the opportunity the recent and current lockdowns and restrictions have brought, even deciding to take over The Plough Inn, located in Two Dales Derbyshire. Martin states: “The 18th century village pub was one we grew up drinking in and the plan is to give the place a new lease of life with a refurb and the introduction of some amazing new beers.” The company’s principle ethos is to support local, independent breweries. “Being in Sheffield we are spoilt for choice!” added Martin. “We often have beer on from brewers such as Crosspool Ale Makers, St Mars, Little Critters, Lost Industry, Abbeydale, Brew Foundation, Heist to name a few.” Short term goals for Boozhound and The Plough Inn as it is for everyone in hospitality right now is survival. “We are working really hard to develop our takeaway offer down at The Plough Inn and getting organised for when we can finally open back up at Cutlery Works.” Long term they wish to continue improving what they do, as well as potentially branching out and growing further within Sheffield. “The lockdown and restrictions have had a huge impact on us,” said Martin. “We have had very little opportunity to trade over the past year and we have had to postpone some exciting plans and events.” However, Boozehound are eternal optimists and have used the time to grow their business, providing more time to plan and work on new projects. With a 1,817hp twin-turbocharged V8 engine, not only is the Hennessey F5 Venom the most powerful road-going production car in the world, it’s claimed to the fastest production car ever created. Their first car was the 2011 Venom GT, which was based on a heavily modified variant of the Lotus Exige. The F5 Venom is the first car to be designed in house and from the ground-up. The Tuscon is for those wanting a solid, reliable SUV without wanting to spend the extra on more premium brand offerings. The new Tucson range comprises three high-specification models: SE Connect, Premium and Ultimate and is offered with 1.6-litre petrol or petrol-hybrid powertrains. Engines range between 148hp to 227hp. A plug-in-hybrid variant will be available from early 2021 and will have 261hp. As standard, the Tuscon in SE Connect trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, and body-coloured bumpers.
