avid Inman Opticians has recently grown, welcoming patients from Boyden-Hare Opticians in Fulwood and Bents Green. This expansion
our cutting-edge technology and worldclass eye care.
James Allen, Optometrist and Director, explains: “We wanted to ensure all BoydenHare patients had the opportunity to experience the highest standard of eye care at David Inman Opticians. Our advanced technology allows us to detect eye diseases earlier and provide the most accurate prescriptions for glasses.”
Following the retirement of Andrew Boyden-Hare, James and his business partner, Chris Rzepinski (Dispensing
Optician, Ecclesall Road), acquired the Fulwood and Bents Green practices. Over the past year, many patients naturally transitioned to David Inman Opticians in Broomhill and Ecclesall and were impressed by the exceptional level of care. To provide continuity and the best possible service, a full merger was the logical next step.
To enhance patient experience, both David Inman practices have expanded their clinic availability and invested in even more cutting-edge equipment. From April, all eye examinations will include a DNEye® 3 scan—a revolutionary biometric eye scan that creates a precise model of the eye.
James adds: “We will be the only opticians in South Yorkshire offering the
DNEye® 3 scan. This technology allows us to tailor lenses using B.I.G. Exact™ by Rodenstock, which accounts for each person’s unique eye measurements. The result? Unparalleled clarity and comfort in every pair of glasses.”
Patients will soon have the chance to see this technology in action in-store, with further details shared on our social media channels.

Re-imagined denim is the perfect way to add a subtle twist to your wardrobe without compromising on comfort. Jackets, waistcoats and blouses are brilliant staples as the days get warmer, so why not make them standout?

Leap into April with fresh twists on classic staples, writes Rosie Brennan.
Tired of jeans and a t-shirt every day? Re-imagined denim is the perfect way to add a subtle twist to your wardrobe without compromising on comfort. Jackets, waistcoats and blouses are brilliant staples as the days get warmer, so why not make them standout?
A structured puffed-sleeve denim blouse, paired with a simple skirt, trousers, or even jeans if you’re going for denim-on-denim, can provide a simple, casual look with a fun little adaptation, for those wanting to spice up their wardrobes in a less bold way.
Denim waistcoats in all shapes, sizes and styles are becoming increasingly popular. Figure-hugging or loose, oversized
texture and layers to an otherwise standard ensemble. Feel free to mix up colour, tone and pattern in your choices.
A denim dress, long or shorter, paired with a simple boot or heel is a wonderful way to dress for the warmer weather while still maintaining an effortlessly elegant casual look. Contrast deep blues with pops of red or orange, and perhaps leopard print for a sprinkle of a trending, modern pattern. Tailor your denim, your way.
Fashion that improves the wearer’s mood, commonly known as ‘dopamine dressing’ has increased in popularity, blossoming particularly in the spring/summer fashion season. Months of miserable weather is being pushed behind us, and so is the misery that comes with it. Britain is of course, still unpredictable, even in the springtime. So, if you can’t feel the sunshine, dress like it!
Gorgeous pastel yellows, pinks and greens perfectly complement one another for a classic casual daytime ensemble made to uplift your mood, and that of those around you.
Don’t shy away from bold colour and pattern: pick up contrasting colour wheel pieces like olive green and bright red accessories, royal blue and bold orange ensembles – the possibilities are endless.

Jane Eyre is such an iconic literary thoughts when you found out you would be portraying her in Northern Ballet’s production?

What do you think this production of Jane Eyre offers that sets it apart from other adaptations of the novel?
Dominique: I hope audiences leave the theatre feeling deeply moved and perhaps even inspired to push past the boundaries they may face in their own lives. At its core, this story speaks to the incredible strength and resilience of the human spirit, and I hope it reminds people of the profound power of love—how it can help us endure, overcome, and transform. My greatest wish is for the audience to walk away with a sense of hope, and something deeply felt in their hearts.

What would you say to someone new to ballet to encourage them to see Jane Eyre?

s a serial award-winner at our annual Restaurant of the Year Awards, a visit to Chinatown comes with high expectations.
The London Road restaurant has long been a favourite of Westside readers –and with good reason. It’s combination of fantastic food, attentive service and charming surroundings goes a long way to explain why they get so much repeat custom, particularly with the growing Chinese community in the city.

The concept takes inspiration from Kerala’s toddy shops, drinking and eating establishments that serve the region’s signature alcohol, toddy. The restaurant captures the essence of these beloved shops, where locals gather to enjoy food, community and culture, reimagining this timeless tradition. Diners are encouraged to mix and match three to four small plates, bowls and sides, served as they’re freshly prepared, inspiring visitors to enjoy sharing their dishes with one another.

Heading down with a friend on a Friday
the aspect of community was not only to the establishment itself, but to the culture of Kerala as a region. The bustling scene saw families getting together, old friends catching up, anniversary date dinners, all experiencing the delightful sights, smells and tastes of the dishes simultaneously across tables, sharing and swapping to enjoy the food in the way it was designed to be enjoyed together.

Our drinks then arrived swiftly. We decided to opt for one alcoholic and one options on offer. The way classic cocktails are done by each bar or restaurant typically says a lot about them, which made me reach out for a Margarita (£10.50). Concocted, of course, with tequila, triple sec and lime juice, the cocktail arrived in a classically extravagant style, with a lime wedge and salt on the rim of the glass, proving to be a perfectly fresh and sour sip that contrasted

The Trivandrum fried chicken (£7.50), a recipe from Kerala’s capital, arrived with fried garlic yoghurt, an opposition from the crispy goodness of the plate, creating a potion of unique taste.
Unfortunately too full from our mixing and matching to dive into the dessert options of sticky toffee pudding (£7.50) or cardamom chocolate brownie (£7), we left Kerala with very happy stomachs and no sweet treat.

Our concept marries authentic recipes with modern twists, creating a unique dining experience that celebrates Kerala’s heritage while embracing contemporary tastes. Every bite is a journey through the coastal beauty, aromatic spices, and culinary artistry that define Kerala cuisine. Inspired by Kerala's traditional toddy shops, our menu brings bold local flavors and vibrant hospitality. Mix and match plates, bowls, and sides, served as they're ready. We suggest 3 to 4 dishes for two with a biriyani to share.

The dining room at Losehill House Hotel offers spectacular scenery like no other –and much more, writes Matt Rhodes
eople say January is the most depressing month for various reasons such as the post-Christmas blues, poor weather and it beingan excruciatingly long month. For me, the main reason is that tax returns are due, meaning payment to HMRC and long phone calls with accountants asking you questions that require trying to remember things that happened a year ago. With another January survived, I decided to
my accountant out for a ‘thank you’ lunch and a chance to hear his annual joke about ‘death and taxes being the only certainties in life’….
We headed to Losehill Hotel and Spa in Edale for a midweek Wednesday lunch. The weather was bright, which made the amazing view from the dining room all the better, looking up at Win Hill surrounded by the rolling hills of Derbyshire.
I arrived on time (unlike the accountant
and paying on time), and was made to feel at home by Antonia whose knowledge and enthusiasm for wine was outstanding. After much discussion I chose a glass of Deux
Rebelles 2022 Rosé which is an Australian minimal intervention wine. During the winemaking process the grapes are fermented using naturally occurring yeasts which gave it a slightly cloudy appearance, but the taste was sensational and unlike any rosé I had tried before. The wine list is fantastic and offers unusual wines along with better-known choices. We also enjoyed a lovely Sanguine Progeny Shiraz, also from ‘Down Under’ at £50. (Clearly, I was ready to wine-d down and forget about tax season).
The lunch menu was at perfectly balanced choice of four starters, four mains and three desserts, plus cheese. After some
ham hock terrine and the Tax Wizard chose crispy cod cheeks to start. Both were presented in a modern style and were excellent. My only gripe of the whole meal was that the terrine was served fridge cold,
room temperature would have enhanced it even more.

balanced. My companion had chicken Pommes Anna and Riesling sauce, which looked and smelt beautiful.
We rounded the meal off with a tonka
of the tonka bean cut perfectly through the rich brûlée and a brilliant British cheeseboard chosen by my bean-counting friend who, after a year of telling me to not spend money had ordered the three most expensive dishes on the menu… Says it
investment with a very tasty return.
As we left, I saw an excited couple planning their wedding at what would be a perfect venue with the food, views and hospitality to match. The hotel is open every day for lunch and dinner including Sunday lunch. If you are looking for a dining room with food, and a view to match then look no further.

Richard Abbey’s visit to new restaurant, Six and a Half, is a feast for all the senses.
fter getting out of the car and walking into Dyson Place, that little enclave just off Sharrowvale Road, it was my wife who piped up, “ooh, something smells nice, where’s that coming from?”.
“That’s where we’re going,” I replied.
Our destination was Six and a Half, a brand-new restaurant concept from Leslie Buddington, whom you might recognise from previously being Brocco on the Park’s original chef and co-owner.
After leaving Brocco, Leslie set up his

“There’s no hiding place cooking this way,” Leslie said. “It’s food from around what makes me happy.”
After the tempting aromas have lured you to its door, you’re greeted by the warmest of welcomes – both literally and

bench which puts you at the heart of the action.
Leading front of house at Six and a Half is Amy Baker who expertly guided us through the menu, which is made up of small and sharing plates, and recommended some drinks to get us started. A smoky margarita (£14) was very much on theme whilst a gin and tonic (£13), made from
On the food front, Amy recommended two small plates and four sharing ones as a guide, explaining that dishes are served as and when they are ready – who were we to argue?
Comfortably seated at the kitchen bench, our small dishes came in the form of
crab (£10) and parmesan tarts (£8), which have proved a big hit with diners in the short time the restaurant has been open. It’s easy to see why: they were crisp and fresh with a hint of earthiness provided by a mushroom relish. A great start.
We followed this with dishes of sea bream (£14), char siu braised pork cheek (£16), caramelised celeriac (£14) and harissa venison haunch (£26).
It was hard to pick a favourite, such was the standard of cooking, but we really

Six and a Half is very much in its infancy but has made a solid start. Its elevated position provides superb views over the fairy-lit courtyard and you feel that this is a venue that will really come into its own come the summer months. The sights,
