Our process

Stage 1: Consultation

If you are updating an existing space, one of our designers will survey your property. If you already have plans of the new space, we would invite you to bring them into the showroom. We would talk through your vision and discuss everything, from appliances, worktops, colours, to styles of doors.

Stage 3: Order

We will conduct a final site survey to double check all measurements, and once you are completely happy with the design, the order will be placed.

Every great design starts with a vision. Let’s find yours.

Stage 2: Design

Next, we will start designing your dream kitchen, taking into account everything we have learnt about you, your vision, and your space. We’ll then invite you back into our showroom to talk through the design

Stage 4: Delivery

As soon as we know when your kitchen will be ready, we will get in touch to organise an installation date that works for you. We will ensure a smooth seamless delivery and install of your dream kitchen.

Turning into art MEMORIES

discusses her collection that makes memories last a lifetime. By Rosie Brennan.

Artist Holly Clifford

Art jeweller and designer Holly Clifford creates stunningly unique handmade jewellery to add a

simple and classic pieces, perfect for special occasions, a gift for a loved one or just a treat for yourself.

Currently enjoying creating her work in a spacious studio at Yorkshire Artspace, she has created a ‘Contour Map Collection’, celebrating the personal connections we all

creative jewellery and wall pieces.

According to the artist, who lives in Walkley, the collection “focuses on the narrative power of maps; which have the capacity to tell tales of our travels, adventures, and history so well. Maps are both functional and beautiful. I transfer the contour lines from iconic and meaningful locations, and cut their pattern into a sheet

the map to create striking, topographical works of art and jewellery.

“I engrave rivers and bodies of water into the landscapes, as well as adding markers on bespoke maps which pin-point special locations, using silver or gold granules or gemstones. Often customers like to have their map personalised further with engraved details, such as initials, place names and dates, on the reverse of pendants

Stemming from her love of the outdoors in all its’ forms throughout childhood, Holly says: “I wanted to be in the landscape running up and over its contours, climbing its craggy edges and swimming in its chilly lakes, whilst also appreciating it in art

This served as the inspiration for the Contour Map Collection. Having always held a certain fascination for maps, she

She approaches translating vastly personal and often rather emotional aspects into tangible pieces of art by delicately catering to her clients’ wishes. She says: “Memories are made in places; we often tie a lot of meaning to certain locations, forming strong connections with them because of events that happened there.

“Whether it’s the treasured location of a whole life lived, a milestone occasion experienced, or an epic physical challenge completed, every map has a different story to tell. One commission I think demonstrates this was a map for a 70th birthday, stretching from the family home in Buxton-Spa to Win Hill in the Peak

An incredible amount of detail and hard work goes into the creation of the maps, with Holly ensuring her intricate method is done to perfection. The process for the large-scale wall art and the smaller jewellery pieces begins in the same way, by extracting the elevation data using specialist mapping software.

Holly explains: “If it’s a commissioned map, I generally create templates at two different scales for the customer to choose from. Then, I have a discussion with them to ensure that I create a piece that meets

Amazing Autumn Savings

“The service we received from DKD was exceptional. Mary designed our kitchen-diner knock through and she was so patient when we tried various different designs. That said her experience showed as we reverted back to one of her originals. As the work started Lauren took over and I can honestly say I have never met someone who works harder to please. Nothing is too much trouble and she provided the best customer service I have ever had.

Mount Renovations completed the building works and the guys on site were tidy, respectful and frankly fun to have around. Even though the build was completed a couple of month ago they recently returned to sort a couple of snags. Sarah in the office runs a tight ship (I’ve seen the electronic planner) and there was always someone on site working on the renovation.

Now the kitchen itself is perfect and nothing was too much trouble for the kitchen fitter Julian. The units are high quality and there is nothing I would change in terms of design/ layout, we just need to add all the finishing touches. We now spend so much time in our beautiful kitchen and I’ve even got the kids baking and washing up. A win all round.

Finally, the entire work wasn’t without a few complications, but they were minor and addressed immediately. The sign of a good quality company and I am so pleased we went with DKD (trust me we did our research of the alternatives). Thanks so much to everyone involved.”

Take the first step in creating your dream kitchen by calling into our spectacular designer kitchen showroom, or telephone us to book one of our designers for a free survey. They will then add life and inspiration to your ideas by creating a 3D visual walkthrough, assisting you in choosing colours, style and layout.

Two winters, ONE SUMMER

his week I have been wondering if winter is already upon us… the holiday suntans are fading away, the golf course is beginning to resemble the Somme and we’ve even had the heating on

Tonly just autumn, but the dreariness of the weather has reminded me of something my Grandad used to say at this time of year, “two winters to one summer” and now I understand what he meant.

Anyway, despite the weather, I can think of two things I do like about English winters. Firstly, a return to the sartorial safety of the winter wardrobe. Secondly, and best of all, is the sensational winter food we get to enjoy. Think pub lunches

food, hearty soups and roasted winter vegetables.

So, my Friday night a trip to the Scotsman’s Pack in Hathersage at the end of this wintery week was perfectly timed. I went along with an old friend (an ex-chef

“could they do it on a cold windy night in Hathersage”?

We walked into a classic Friday night

scene in a local pub, with drinkers enjoying end of the week pints at the bar and barely a table free. Luckily we had booked ahead and were shown to our table by the lovely cheery Abbie who took good care of us all night. The menu comprised six starters and nine mains, plus two steak options and four more main course specials.

To start, I opted for an oxtail doughnut with blue cheese sauce (£9) which was a well worked dish, combining sticky braised oxtail with a slightly sweet doughnut. The acid from the blue cheese cut through it nicely.

My friend chose Bridlington crab Éclair, ponzu crème fraiche and pickled veg (£9.50). After trying his I thought he made the better choice - the crab was zingy and tasted so fresh, though perhaps something crispy would have provided a better accompaniment in terms of texture than the eclair.

For mains I had lamb shank, dauphonise potato, roasted pumpkin and cavelo nero (£22). This was technically impressive and exactly what pubs should be serving in winter. It was faultless.

My friend had a “Scotsman’s steak pie

with mushy peas” (£18). We barely paused to talk during the mains which is a bad habit of a (even former) time-poor chef that’s hard to lose and worse still for he has

but we both concurred afterwards that the main courses had nailed the ‘seasonal pub

We had shared an excellent bottle of 2023 malbec (£27) and for dessert we enjoyed sticky ginger pudding with candied oranges and vanilla ice cream (£7), and an original Bakewell pudding with custard (£7), which prompted a discussion about Bakewell tart vs Bakewell pudding. We both agreed that the pudding reigns supreme. No debate.

The bill came to £128 and I am already

Despite being born and bred in Derbyshire, I had never visited the charming limestone hamlet of Foolow so it was time to put that right on a glorious October afternoon.

I took a little wander around picturesque Follow, nipping into a lovely little church where they generously provide coffee and biscuits free around the corner from the pub.

Whipped ricotta (£7.50) with textures of beetroot, sherry vinegar and sourdough was among the tempting alternative options the talented head chef has conjured up for the autumn and winter months.

The service was outstanding, with Brisbane-born Matt chatting away to customers in between delivering goodness from the kitchen and keeping the drinks

orkshire folk are well known for being straight talking and to the point but one thing we’re perhaps not so good at is talking ourselves up. Telling everyone how fantastic the county and its people are is not really in our nature but is something we should perhaps do more of. Particularly when there is so much to shout about.

One venue doing Yorkshire proud and Doncaster’s DN1 Delicatessen & Dining, a hidden gem that just keeps getting better and better.

And with Christmas approaching, now is the perfect time to visit.

The High Fisher Gate location, which

is close to the Wool Market and Corn Exchange and has plenty of parking nearby, has come a long way in a short space of time, earning multiple accolades, including ‘Best Deli in Yorkshire’ by Yorkshire Life magazine.

More than a deli, it’s an international food lovers’ emporium with unusual ingredients from all four corners of the world, rare fruits and vegetables, and a huge wall dedicated to herbs, spices and

All hampers at DN1 are truly bespoke so you can choose every last item to ensure it is entirely appropriate for the person (or people) you’re buying for, whether that’s friends, family or business colleagues.

The ‘Dining’ part of DN1 is equally impressive and has captured the imagination of visitors from all over the country, earning 2 AA Rosettes as well as high praise from esteemed restaurant critic, Giles Coren.

Full of SURPRISES

Doncaster’s DN1 continues to impress - be prepared for the unexpected, writes Richard Abbey.

iven the nature of my job, I’m very fortunate to be able to eat out at various restaurants throughout the Yorkshire region and have experienced some truly fantastic places along the way. But however good a restaurant is, so often they can be predictable. Menus can be dressed up in all kinds of different ways but you pretty much know what you’re going to get once you’ve ordered. So when a chef truly surprises you it can catch you, well, very much by surprise.

Having been to Doncaster’s DN1 before I was familiar with the format; a choice of

strong emphasis on seafood, given that the venue is owned by Martyn Pippard, aka The Gentleman Fishmonger.

Given that it was lunchtime we’d chosen the smaller menu (£64 per person) but which came with an optional extra course (£8 supplement per person), simply

After the ‘eggs benedict’ came what was perhaps my favourite dish (after the moussaka of course). A rolled ballotine of steamed cod and parsley was served

There were two options for main course: wild seabass or Iberico pork (£14 supplement), which continued the already

Making an IMPRESSION

Chef Tom Lawson’s latest venture has got off to a sound start, writes Richard Abbey.

hen chef Tom Lawson announced that he was leaving Rafters after ten years at the helm, I’m sure that more than a few eyebrows were raised. But Tom wanted to follow his own, new path and found a new challenge in the form of The Psalter.

The pub and hotel has suffered mixed fortunes in recent years and has perhaps been crying out for a new identity and a clear direction. Step forward Tom and his team who have completely renovated the venue, creating new bar and restaurant spaces as well as maintaining and updating the 21-bedroom hotel.

step down into the bar area is that it’s considerably smaller than previous. Tom has reduced the length of the bar by almost two-thirds to create a larger kitchen space, resulting in an intimate space with dark blue walls, brown leather seating and the splash of yellow neon here and there.

You don’t have to be visiting the restaurant to sample the bar, which was busy on the evening of our visit, and has a good selection of draught ales as well as wines and cocktails, the latter of which which touch on later.

Tom certainly knows his way around the kitchen and has devised a menu that has a

staff recommending three to four dishes per person, depending on how hungry you are. Dishes are brought to your table as and when they are ready.

Drinks seemed like a good place to start and the Tonada Merlot from Chile (£25 bottle) was well balanced and paired well with our chosen dishes.

We started with what we were told is

ribs with chilli and lime salt (£6) - which were salty, spicy, tangy and just delicious.

Embracing TRADITION

There’s more to The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop than sweet treats, writes Richard Abbey.

t maybe famed for its market but Bakewell is also home to its fair share of historic buildings, some of which date back to the 16th century.

INot quite that old but with a history dating back to the Duke of Rutland, the famous Bakewell Pudding Shop building actually dates from the 17th century and with all its funny angles, low ceilings and odd-shaped spaces it’s easy to see how.

Regardless of age, I’m sure it’s never

to try the Bakewell pudding, a ‘happy accident’ that was created when the cook at a local inn misunderstood the recipe for a strawberry tart and ended up topping her creation with a soft set almond custard. The rest, they say, is history.

On the day of my visit, the shop is busy

bakery and gift shop whilst upstairs – and our destination – is the 80-seater licensed restaurant. Original wooden beams and exposed brickwork are reminders of the building’s long history and provide a cosy backdrop for our lunch.

The restaurant opens all day with

breakfast served from 9-11.45am and lunch from 12-5pm and afternoon teas and cakes are available throughout.

Lunch comprises a selection of light bites – soup, sandwiches, quiche, jacket potatoes – as well as heartier main dishes including

There’s a children’s menu too as well as a good selection of hot and cold drinks, including local beers and ciders as well as wines, prosecco and Bakewell Pudding gin.

My colleague, Sam, was straightaway drawn to the Derbyshire Beef Steak pie (£17.50), which was served with mashed potato, crushed peas and gravy and arrived

I took my cue from our waiter who

raspberry (£4) and San Pellegrino orange (£4) to go alongside our main dishes but I couldn’t resist a pot of tea for one (£3.25)

We’d left room for dessert and whilst Sam couldn’t resist a huge slab of chocolate fudge cake, I thought it only right to indulge in Original Bakewell pudding (individual) served with custard (£8), which was sweet, crumbly and had that winning combination of jam and almonds that so characterises the pudding.

It’s easy to see why the Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop is such a draw for tourists but the restaurant deserves its own merits. Good home-cooked food with service to match ensure it will be around for many more years to come.

Festival of LIGHT

Sophie shares her memories of dad John’s St Luke’s Hospice Christmas.

or Sophie Middleton and her family, the 2024 St Luke’s Hospice Festival of Light will be a very special opportunity to celebrate the life of dad John.

F

traditions, the St Luke’s Festival of Light is the annual celebration that sees thousands of lights brighten the charity’s Little Common Lane garden, all dedicated in memory of loved ones.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday 1 December and will be hosted by BBC Look North presenter and St Luke’s supporter Tom Ingall.

Sophie is supporting the Festival of Light as a memorial to dad John, who enjoyed his last Christmas with family thanks to the support of the St Luke’s team.

“The most incredible thing about St Luke’s is that they can turn the worse experience of your life into something very special…and that’s exactly what they did for my dad John,” says Sophie, who lives with her family in Wisewood.

“Dad had cancer and had been a St Luke’s community patient but in December last year he was brought into the hospice for pain management.

“We’d got a pub booked for a family get together but dad was in too much pain to go so St Luke’s gave us a brilliant Christmas morning without him having to go anywhere.

“My daughter Poppy - who was the apple of her grandad’s eye - was there and Santa even came and gave out presents.

“They trimmed everything up, they played festive music and there was a lovely breakfast for us - it was just amazing!

“Dad did get to go home but St Luke’s was where he needed to be and our main focus was to get him back there for the last

“My brother Jack and I stayed with him and were there right until he died and being at St Luke’s helped us both so much.

“We were in beds beside dad and in a

funny way it was like we’d gone back to being kids again - it was so comforting.

“St Luke’s became like extended family to us and we can never give enough back in return for what they did for dad, Jack and I, our family and friends who came to visit.

“When Poppy came to visit, nobody batted an eyelid that she whizzed her grandad up and down the corridor in his wheelchair.

“St Luke’s is beyond anything you could ever imagine - it’s magical.

“You know why you’re there, but for a short while you can forget, thanks to the amazing care you and your loved one

receive from everyone.

“I didn’t think I’d ever need St Luke’s - you never do - but now we’ve had their support and they have been there for us I want to give them everything I can.”

on, visitors to this year’s Festival of Light can enjoy mulled wine and other seasonal drinks, along with food – with vegetarian and, vegan and gluten-free options available – from a range of local street vendors.

New for this year, a Family Photo Area will be a dedicated space to capture more special memories and there will also be live music provided by some special guests throughout the event.

First Bus will once again be providing a

Get the party STARTED

The countdown to the Christmas party season is on. Rosie Brennan looks at current trends that could make your shindig extra-special.

ith the nights drawing in and the morning air getting colder, winter is fast approaching. And with winter, comes one of the biggest events of the year - Christmas.

Whether it’s celebrating with family, friends or colleagues, booking in advance is always the way to go. This December, stay ahead of the Christmas crowds and be sure to prepare for your festivities on the earlier side, so you don’t fall victim to the booked-out-venue epidemic and end up experiencing a David Brent-esque ‘do’, crowded around the copier hearing your colleagues fourth drunken rendition of Mariah Carey’s festive classic.

Party planning does not have to be the mammoth task it can so often feel like. Creating a special occasion for those close

to you can be a fun and joyful experience, and organising a Christmastime do for your colleagues is a fantastic way to thank them for their hard work over the year and blow off some steam.

Whether you’re wanting to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with a lavish spread at a fancy restaurant, tucking into turkey at a cosy pub or enjoying a drink (or two) and a dance with your fellow merry people, there are plenty of venues more than happy to accommodate your Christmas plans. Whatever the scale or budget, there is something for everyone to enjoy this December.

If you’re currently stuck in a partyplanning rut, here’s some inspiration for 2024 Christmas party themes to get you in the spirit:

Tax rises are coming!

The Chancellor has announced her first budget set for the 30th of October.

The government has repeated its commitment not to increase income tax, national insurance or VAT rates.

But, on capital gains tax (CGT) and inheritance tax (IHT), the government have so far stayed silent. Many analysts are predicting that these will be the areas that the government are looking to increase their tax take from.

Pensions always seem to be something that new governments cannot help themselves from tinkering with, so watch this space too.

This all means that individuals and small businesses should review their financial situation now and take advantage of

ways of mitigating any new taxes before they are introduced. Investment and pension funds should also be strategically managed to benefit from the changes ahead.

Whatever the Autumn Budget brings, our team of independent financial advisers can help navigate the impact of any changes. We can help you develop a personal tax and investment strategy that best suits your own individual situation.

Change is inevitable, so we must adapt to the new financial landscape ahead.

Is there still a place for pure petrol engines? Aston Martin believe so and have unveiled the new V12 Vanquish.

An automotive piece of art, Vanquish completes Aston Martin’s portfolio of next generation of front-engine sports cars, capping one of the most intensive periods of product development in the company’s rich 111-year history.
