Winter At Whispering Cliffs Article and Photography by: Sammie Audionmie Audion ter an
The reds, olives, yellows, and pinks of the summer have faded and almost been forgotten. Silently, snow flake after snow flake has landed softly on the exhausted ground to give nature its welldeserved rest after a year’s hard work of growing and prospering its fruits. Time for mother nature to recuperate— it needs to fall asleep in hopes that after a slow and peaceful awakening, it will be anew. Perhaps this is the reason why nature decided to give the fallen snow the power to filter much of the human noise. It appears, when entering the winter forest in an early winter night, as though the world came to a silent, soft, and yet chilly halt. What could possibly be more romantic than

sharing some of this quiet time? Ok, granted – the cold might not help much. Then again, riding through the winter wonderland on a horse-drawn sleigh cuddled into warm and cozy blankets or quilts with your loved one arguably ranks quite high on the scale of romantic adventures. The trip to Whispering Cliff starts in a wonderful little house with a beautiful Christmas tree to set the scene for us. One can almost hear the jingle bells when looking out the glass door. You could just stay here and give into the Christmas Spirit. But there is certainly much more to see outdoors!
Outside, a range of winter activities offer themselves to the visitor. The cold air is cleaning the sinuses, and one is tempted to pull that jacket a little tighter. Whispering Cliff invites you either to spend some romantic time or to simply have some fun – perhaps even both. The choice is all yours!

When the night starts to fall over Whispering Cliff and the temperatures drops, it is time to find a warm place close to the fireplace of the clubhouse (AKA the lodge for group members). Snuggle in under a blanket and sip on a hot mulled wine or grog, and talk about plans for the coming day. By doing so, we learn by mother nature’s example— just like the many plants and animals go dormant during the cold season. No, I am not suggesting you should take a winter nap. Nevertheless, we all do need some time for regeneration once in a while, and so do relationships. Taking the time for getting to know each other again … and again. In order to keep the spark alive, dreams need to be shared to stay alive, too.
We all do need time to recuperate – falling asleep in hope that after a slow and peaceful awakening, we will be anew. The hope for a happy tomorrow. After all, in these times, we do have a lot to hope for.
In that sense, be nice to yourself – and each other.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT. EDITIORS CORNER When I first acquired BOSL Magazine, I was delighted. For the longest time, I had followed this magnificent magazine and umbrella of businesses, and I wanted to dig deeper into what made them look so successful from the outside. I remember the first Miss Virtual World pageant I ever went to; I dreamed of being on that stage and competing with some of the best and beautiful avatars on the grid. What was filled with excitement and fun quickly turned into gloom and very dark days. Have you ever found yourself in the middle of reality thinking to yourself, ‘I must be dreaming, because life— whether its Second Life or Real Life— could never be this bad’? What you quickly learn is with big dreams comes big responsibility. I could not have been prepared, with the years of business experience and degrees, for what was facing me in the years to come. I was a very shy individual and was given some advice that the best way to do business in the virtual world was through a lot of communication and bartering. You can probably see where this road is going to lead. Many people approached me for items at discounted rates, if not free, and I thought that I would be returned the favor in kind. Let’s just say, my eyes became wide open. What I have learned over the years in Second Life is that doing business is really the same as doing
Written by: Reign Congrejo business in Real Life. People will always go after what they think they can get if you allow it. Many called me bad names, said that I would not do business with them, talked negative to others about me; this was based on a perception that I was not being reasonable and listening to their demands, to put it simply. Being in Second Life is about making money. Many call this a game, but there is no one set win in mind— to me, it’s not a game, its life. And to many, it’s a way of life and a living. As in Real Life, when you go to a store, do you expect things to be given to you or must you pay for them in exchange for the item? So, what makes a virtual reality any different in selling a good and expecting a return? Mentorship is a word used very rarely in Second Life, yet you find it commonly in the real world. What I have found in my years of Second Life is people do not want to share what they have learned with others. What I have heard are such things as “It took me too long to learn this myself, why would I share it with others?” or “I will show you, but don’t show anyone else because they ripped me off.” What I see here is room for opportunity instead of keeping a good skill to yourself. What you must understand is what is for you, is for you; no one can ever take that from you.

How many times have people tried to replicate or take an idea I had and pass it off as their own only for it to fail? I realized long ago, no one thinks like I do, and therefore, no one can execute a project the way I can. We are all unique— understand what you have, no one else shares. Now, mentoring doesn’t come without a price tag— and some come at a very hefty price —but it’s an investment in yourself. If you are willing to be a mentor/coach/teacher, you get to set the price for your knowledge. So, what is standing in your way of training someone to do something— especially if they are willing to pay for your knowledge? Let me share a little of my real life. I have three coaches who are all millionaires, who are where I am trying to go, but they just do not give up their knowledge for free. I have to pay for that knowledge because if given for free, I would not appreciate it nor apply it. Since working with the advice of these millionaire women, I am over multi-six figures on my way to my first million within the next year.
If you are a mentee, the best thing you could ever do is invest in yourself, because you are your best investment. Stop looking at the price tag saying ‘I can’t afford it’— look at it and say, “How can I afford this?” The way you talk and change your mindset is the way to manifesting all that you want and desire. As a mentor, stop thinking that it’s all about you. Learn to give back. The more you give back, the more you will receive in return. Your Sister in Constant Motion, Reign Congrejo

@ the Crossroads -An Ultimate Eye –Jared Petrov Article by: Sita Writer| Photography by Jared Petrov
Photography is everywhere, in SL and in RL— some good, some ok, and, yes, some not so good! BOSL once more hosted their annual photography contest, with the theme “@ The Crossroads.” We have all been at a crossroads in at least one Life. You know, that unexpected curveball that life throws at you in some way or another. The challenge is to move forward in a positive manner always and to learn from that encounter and give back to those that have helped you along the way—that is the essence of BOSL.
sometimes in exotic locations and other times in focus of portraiture with aesthetic lighting, it’s all good. We love the creativity, so we threw out a challenge for our 2018 Crossroad Photography Contest. The world of SL photography is fast-paced and always evolving, and BOSL set out to find another great photographer in SL. We are proud to announce the winner of the 2018 BOSL 11th Annual Photo Contest @ the Crossroads: Jared Petrov.
The root of “@ the Crossroads” was planted from the idea that here in SL and at BOSL, we see hundreds of images a day of men and women showcasing clothes, accessories, and more —
Petrov came across SL many years ago. “One of my real-life friends in college told me about SL, and after a while I finally logged on and found a niche in SL. Sadly, at that time, my

friend from real life quit logging on, so I was naturally. I already imagined what I wanted to express. traveling the grid solo.” Change of any sort can be scary, even more so when there is no longer the option of not going in the same Happily, Jared did not stay sad, as another direction you are going in your life.” friend looked at his RL photos and encouraged him to stay on SL and share his keen eye and BOSL has always been on the cutting edge of fashion, talent. “After countless hours of instruction style, and the technological advances of the grid that about how to use the photo editing software, is a constant crossroad for many of us. A crossroad in life is when you have no other option but to change the direction.” Looking at the winning image, Jared interpreted the contest in a very literal sense that resonated. It makes one think, “what if…” “I wanted to convey that choosing a path can appear scary, and when you are making a big decision, you naturally feel vulnerable… which, is what I was trying to display with basically not having a shirt on my back in the picture. Change and the unknown can be dark and scary. Even more so when you have a chance of not undoing a choice you make. I am still extremely shocked that my image won.” Inspiration is sometimes personal and poignant. “My inspiration may not be conventional, but I would have to say that it is my friend that got me started with SL photography,
Sadly, she is no longer with us in this life, but every time I work on a new picture, I sometimes imagine exactly what she would say about whatever picture I am working on.”
Petrov has a world of wisdom on his shoulders as an emergency room nurse that hit a crossroad and became a social worker; his words of wisdom should be deeply reflected on, and we should be deeply thankful there are people like Petrov that can cross so many crossroads. As for future plans, Petrov is modest.
“All I can say is that I will take each day I wake up as a blessing and treat it as my last. My future consists of trying to make a stranger smile every day. I will try to make sure I am possibly the shred of sunshine for someone who is having a personal storm or dark day, or are internally dealing with a crossroad in their life.
Regardless of whatever crossroad or challenge people are facing in life, they are not alone unless they want to be. I want people to understand that there are people out there who do care. We at BOSL agree and are grateful for people that think like this.

CATZTOO “How can you not like cats?” You hear that a lot from folks with a feline fascination, including those of Second Life, where cats are everywhere and fur balls are not. Virtual cats are chronicled in history, respected in nature, and adored as pets. From cute kittens happy to eat from your fingers to jungle beasts happy to eat your head. Regardless of your interest, each versatile, virtual category offers many choices. Ready to explore the wonderful world of cat mania? Here kitty, kitty. In history, cats are no kitten-come-lately. Egyptian tombs contain mummified Pharaohs with equally mummified cats. More than mere pets, the four-legged wonders were cherished as royalty. “The ancients were as fascinated with them as we are today,” says Miut, who owns and operates SL’s Temple of Bastet, Drachenstein, a replica of Egypt’s. “Cats certainly do rule the Internet and are loved more than ever.”
Article by: CompE|Photography: CompE She notes, “To me, the cat represents the feminine energy, mystical power, goddess energy— the inward ‘Yin’ energy. One has to figure cats out. Just when you think you have them ‘figured,’ they do something to prove you have not!” Cats roam freely at SL’s Egyptian temple. A giant statue of one with glowing eyes dominates the fortress. Miut adds, “There are no cat related events, but that sounds like a good idea! The cat is a figurehead of this place.” One theory holds that Egyptian royalty exclusively owned cats. Fortunately, that changed— sorry, King Tut. Second Life is filled with kittens. They are designed and bred by passionate breeders who love their work. Melinda Jensen is one such person. She started her hobby casually with the gift of two kittens from a friend. “I wanted something for a fun SL project,” she recalls. “And breeding cats fits the bill.” That was five years ago. Today, Melinda owns Sanctuary Cat, KittyCatS Market. Two cats became an inventory of 5,000 plus, collectively meowing.

All are dedicated to saving the world and having fun doing it. Let’s start with the Justice Sim.
“We are small compared to most markets,” adds Melinda. “But small is good. Makes it easier for people to shop. We try to have a large variety of cats with good traits and qualities that people look for.” Try the Ocicat: black with pumpkin eyes and vampire ears, of the MegaPuss variety. It’s your typical minivan-sized housecat. Breeders say some people just want a friendly little ball of fur to meander around home sweet
skybox. Others buy for investments. “But the best way to approach Second Life’s inner-hobby – do it because it’s fun,” says Melinda. “My focus is to enjoy it.” People enjoy zoos, too, especially with big cats who have big teeth. For those interested in meeting the king of beasts and more, the Oasis Zoo is a good place to start, featuring over 100 animals so realistic that eyes blink, tails twitch, and some follow you.
“We have lions, tigers, jaguars, cougars, a female ocelot, a lynx family, and snow leopards,” says ZooKeeper Missy, Oasis’s caretaker and owner. She also works with zoos in real life. “I work with Fishing Cats,” she says. “They are natives of Asia. Unlike other cat species, these guys love to swim and hunt for fish.” She brings her RL zoo world to SL’s zoo.
“The big advantage to bringing a zoo to second life is that I have complete control of everything,” she says. “I am able to go into the lion’s exhibit, for example, and not worry about being attacked.” Want to learn more? Stay in world and visit a storehouse of knowledge. Selena Alexandre is owner/curator of Cats Museum, where the front door sign states: “a place for those who love cats.” And she does.

Melina Firehawk has been a superhero for over five years as a role player and site administrator for the Justice Sim. “I really enjoy taking on the roles of the canon characters.” Melina portrays Firestar, Scarlet Spider, and a personally created character, Sea Hawk. Her other alts of power include Troia, Siren, and Hila, twin of Mera. “I make them my own while interacting with others on a social basis, or during larger RP events that advance the storyline. I also enjoy having our sims participate in certain opportunities around Second Life like the SciFi Expo, the Sci-Fi Convention, and Relay for Life.” Superhero sites have similar venues. All are dedicated to saving the world and having fun doing it. Let’s start with the Justice Sim.
“I love them for many reasons,” she says while standing at her museum’s front door and holding Valentino, a jet-black feline who purrs in agreement. “They are special— very independent, but at same time lovable.” Inside the museum are walls adorned with cat facts. Amazing tidbits that even the most ardent lover of man’s best friend (forget that stuff you heard about dogs) are surprised to learn.
Visitors come in curious. They exit enlightened and informed. “I wanted to create something different in SL,” Selena says. “I wanted something that not only myself but also others would enjoy.” On display are famous cats of history, both real and fictional. Remember Tom and Jerry, Felix the Cat, Sylvester, and Puss-N-Boots? They’re here alongside many more.
The museum features information in English and Spanish depicting the most famous cats in the world. There is an area where RL cat photography can be displayed. Interactive displays, games, and educational videos are available. Or, you can step into the quiet garden area for dancing, talking, or relaxation – a great place to cat nap.
Over 5,000 have visited Cat’s Museum since it opened last August. The guest book, which visitors are encouraged to sign, offers testimony about the site. An entry reads, “I never expected a place like this in Second Life. Thank you to all who made this possible.” And thank you to the cool cats of Second Life; you help make the SL world a purr-fect place.

NOT LONG NOW Not long now until Christmas, holidays, and New Year. Not long at all. In my scene today, Christmas Eve has come, and everyone is in bed. The food and preparations are done for the next day. Some of the family have arrived already, and more will be knocking on the door in the morning. Camp beds have been pulled out, and every bedroom is packed full of sleeping cousins, aunts, uncles, and family. Not long now until the big day arrives. The good thing for you is that as you read this, you still have plenty of time to get ready for your SL holiday season. The stores are open 24/7, events are just beginning for the new month, and you can shop ‘til you drop! Decorating your SL home is so much fun at this time of the year! I had a great time decorating my new Trompe Loeil home, too. The house itself was my first rez, of course. A blank slate, ready for me to get going and start filling it with some of my favourite things, old and new. The sofa and chairs were my first items in the room. I wanted them to look comfortable and modern, so I chose this lovely set from Shutter Field. From there, I added the fireplace and the bigger pieces, such as the piano and wrapping station. I also wanted a nice rug in front of the fire,
Written and Photography by: Arya Braveheart as that is where my cats sleep. You may spot them in the photos if you are lucky. They are great photobombers. Once I had the main lounge items sorted, I then got the main kitchen pieces in place and worked out which wall they worked best on. Take your time with spaces, and make sure you are happy with how it all looks. The best thing with decorating in SL is that you can move things multiple times without having to worry about back pain and hands to help you carry things about, so keep playing with your area until it is how you want it. I moved this kitchen area about quite a few times until I finally had it the way it is in the photos. After I had all the big furniture items placed, I then turned to the smaller items and the Christmas decorations. It was fun to use older items mixed with newer and to find spots for everything I had. There is plenty of rezzing and taking back, I can tell you. It is also tricky to get loads of new items when I am doing this in mid-November, so it should be simple for you with so much choice and fab new items. That said, older stuff is just as gorgeous! Don’t be afraid to blend them together. Someone told me that I often talk about the first items I place but don’t mention the last, so this time I made sure that I remembered the last item I put out: the peace lily in the kitchen. I wanted
