Ville De Coeur

Article and Photography by: Sammie Audionmie Audion ter an

The Côte d’Azur is situated in the South East of France, bordering the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. The region is very famous from older James Bond movies. It also hosts trendy cities like St. Tropez, Cannes, Nice, and Monaco, offering a chic lifestyle in outrageous designer clothes and lavish yachts as a playground for the jet-setters of the world. During the touristy (extended) summer months, those cities can be especially crowded. The locals get rather annoyed with the tourists and— somewhat understandingly —are not really friendly at times. However, this is certainly not the entire picture

for these cities. If the traveler chooses the preseason to visit, the experience may change entirely. Furthermore, along the coast, small not-so-well-known villages can be found that offer a dreamy, relaxed lifestyle at picturesque old town squares with amazingly beautiful restaurants selling delicious dinners on garden terraces, which allows guests to enjoy breathtaking sunsets. Now, Ville du Coeur— which translates to City of the Heart —could easily be such a small village at the Côte d’Azur. Situated at the foot of a hill which would, in reality, eventually rise into les Alpes de Haute Provence (exactly – this is where the famous ‘Herbs de Provence’ are

from), the hilly setup naturally allows many houses to have amazing seaside views. The tiny alleys and one lane streets with narrow sidewalks give the villages this particular architectural character that invites visitor for walks and adventurous explorations. A bicycle turns out to be a very efficient means of transportation. If one does not like to ride a bicycle, a romantic old street train also takes the visitor along the village to the different squares. Rather the visitor simply comes along for a ride or prefers being driven to the place he or she wants to go is no matter; this nostalgic ride is enjoyable. There are inviting plazas for shopping or cozy cafes for sitting (including

eating pixel pastries or pasta without a guilty feeling). Of course, the village contains a little marina, including the necessary yachts to make the image complete. A relaxing sandy beach invites one to relax or play in the sun, maybe even swim in the warm water. For those who like the wander off the beaten path, an old ruin sits upon the hill. It hides secrets of a perhaps dangerous time during medieval period, or maybe the owners ran out many hundreds of years back. Who knows, you might find a clue. Further up the hill, an old mansion sits overlooking the village and the sea. It appears a noble royal family had a vacation home here— a story that waits to be discovered.

Some things that are hard (or even impossible) to find in a small village like this at the lovely Côte d’Azur. For instance, no Walmart, Target, KFC, or Jack in the Box can be found. But maybe that is the beauty of it. Imagine a place where children could safely walk the five or ten minutes to school. Then— before they come back home in the afternoon —they can go to the beach to play a little soccer or jump in the sea for a little splash to cool down. This life is certainly different compared to the usual rat race we run every day. Granted, this is not everyone’s preference. Yet maybe, just maybe, this place might give a taste of how life could be.

Mediterranean paradise worth a Second Life excursion; they even have a nice ballroom for romantic dances. So why not enjoy what the French call ‘savoir-vivre’— to know how to enjoy the good life. Maybe you will get a taste for it and start thinking about a trip to Europe.

SL COUNTRY “I was country when country wasn’t cool” - these immortal 1981 lyrics from Barbara Mandrell resonate even now through both the real world and the second one. For those in SL, we say ‘welcome, y’all.’ Join us in a boot scootin’ boogie down the country roads of Second Life. And what better place to start than good ole’ country dancing? Join the club— the Tennessee Whiskey Country Club, that is, where co-owner Edge Steel says it all: “The music genre is pure country.” Pure indeed, country music and country dancing pure, like Tennessee sippin’ whiskey pure. A large dance hall with wooden floors, a show stage, and a whiskey barrel motif awaits. People from all over merge here because in here, we are all country. “On average, we host about 13,000 people in traffic per day,” says Edge. By ‘we,’ he refers to wife and co-owner, Katta Steel. Both owners are also club DJ’s and hosts. Edge notes, “The best time to visit is during live sets from 11am to 11pm SLT.” The week’s schedule is posted in the dance hall.

Article by: CompE|Photography:Jackson Redstar The owner also adds, “We occasionally have themed parties during major holidays. But our main focus is giving our VIPs true country music in a setting that is authentic to the genre.” Mission accomplished. Country can be music and dancing or it can be fresh air in the wide-open spaces. Saddles Canyon Country Retreat / Estates blends both, perfect for walking in a rural wonderland. Visit a spell or homestead in beautifully landscaped country community rentals. Seasons change here just as in RL. On today’s visit, Saddles is carpeted with snow, and more continues to fall. It is winter in both worlds, only this one has all the beauty with none of the flu. The beauty - and it is picture postcard quality - is by design. “This rustic retreat is ideal for photographers or those that like to just explore and chill out,” says co-owner Ashley Ghostaltar. She shares ownership of this picturesque sim with Ceejay Ghostaltar.

“Visitors enjoy the outdoors’ beautiful locations loosely inspired by country living, by woods, beaches, and country scenery.” Saddles offers Horseback riding, romantic rowboats, bicycling, and other back to nature scenarios. But it also features country music, dance venues with DJs, tabletop games, shopping, rentals, and community events.

Ashley adds, “We have a lot of fun with

our guests.” It ensures Saddles stays an interactive experience. Visitors can enjoy solitude of the surrounding woods and hills or mingle and dance before a live D.J. Try visiting before the snow melts and snap a picture. It’s suitable for framing. But for a destination framed in fame, can we really have a country discussion without including the Ryman Auditorium? I think not.

If Nashville is the center of Country Music, the Ryman Auditorium is its showcase. The real world one isn’t bad, either. The in-world presence was the idea of Bo Hoyes, a native-born Tennessean, who was inspired in part by his real-life Ryman encounters.

“I wanted the most real life-like city we could make,” he says, walking through wooden church pew seats just like its Nashville counterpart. From his ideas, Brenda (ImmYour Destiny) built it. She is also the sim’s general manager and books acts. And booking acts for an iconic institution is an awesome responsibility. Want to learn more? Stay in world and visit a storehouse of knowledge. Brenda notes, “Many SL singers are dreamers who get to live their dream on our Ryman Stage, here in SL. We have had SL singers cry because they got to play the SL Ryman. Everyone loves it. People who have seen the RL Ryman say this one gives them chills.” Real Nashville performers have visited the SL version, too. “They can’t perform here due to contract agreements,” adds Bo. “But we have had some

famous people visit. A couple have won Entertainer of the Year.” Two famous people sit against a wall: statues of Minnie Pearl and Roy Acuff. Don’t know them? Let’s just say they were country before country was cool. But if you want to know more about the Ryman, a history board is mounted on the wall just above Minnie and Roy’s statuesque historical heads. People who have visited the RL version marvel at the realistic details of the SL rendition.

help recharge the batteries a little, finding a place where one’s mind can be in harmony and relaxing serenity for a while. Grove Country Estates is only one estate within the big world of SL that can become the perfect fantasy hideout for some. The Nobel Prize–winning British author William Golding?

After all, there is nothing wrong with getting to know our dreams and desires a little bit better. Moreover, finding more and more things we like about ourselves can help build a healthy

But there are differences. The Ryman of SL doesn’t require a ticket for admission after fighting Nashville traffic. Turning to the “All of the above and more” category, run like a horse to Black Stallion Country. Eleven venues await, ranging from shopping to adventures into an old western town. Start with Deadwood, a Gun smoke like community perfect for cuddling on bales of hay just down the street from the public Hanging gallows.

“We try to be as realistic as possible,” says site owner Wickman Gibbs, and indeed he and coowner Montana Gibbs do. But a site with ‘Stallion’ in the name is known for horses, and Black Stallion Country meets all SL equestrian needs, including horse auctions, races, boarding, stables, riding— if the hoof fits, wear it. These are but a few of the dozens of country bars, dance halls, stores, and more. All await country-minded avatars. Have fun, and y’all come back now, ya’ hear?

STILL SNOWING IN JANUARY Happy New Year! I hope your Christmas and New Year celebrations were peaceful and filled with people you love. I also hope that 2019 is an amazing year for each of you. With that in mind, I decided to enjoy some fresh air in this scene— and I have good news if you are like me, and bad news if you are not: It is still snowing in January! I am celebrating with this outdoor scene which started small and actually ended up way bigger than planned thanks, mainly, to some gachas that went my way. IThe centrepiece of this scene is the Great North Ice Fishing set from CIRCA, which includes the ice pond, crates, barrels, shack, pine trees, and deer as well as some great accessories inside the shack that will warm you up! These items were, obviously, the first items I rezzed. I love sets like this as they make it so easy to get the decorating started. Easy. From there I added the road and the converted barn from Apple Fall as well as some more trees and a few smaller pieces such as the boars and winter bench set. In my mind, I had pictured the ice pond with the house nearby for easy access, but then I went

Written and Photography by: Arya Braveheart wandering and managed to score some fab items that, when added, turned it into a little community with the ice pond the centre. I pictured those families using it for fishing or skating or whatever! That meant I had to develop paths from each house; I also added little items that personalized each home. To do this, I added the hot tub, snowmobile, Tree Farm, and a variety of animals to give it a picture-postcard look. In fact, when I had finished, I wanted to move in myself! My challenge to you this year is to create a Second Life space that makes you want to move in. And don’t let the excuse of cost deter you, as there are so many amazing things you can grab in hunts, sales, and events and as group gifts that won’t break the bank. It just means you need to get savvy about your shopping and spend some time looking around the SL globe. Let’s all use this year to get creative and have some decorating fun! Enjoy!
