Sweet & Simple Life at Love Katz Article and Photography by: Sammie Audion

If you are lucky enough to be at the beach, you are lucky enough! Life often takes incredibly complicated turns that make us suffer. These bad turns can remind us that we are not all innocent, but things can also come blasting out of nowhere through a turn of bad luck. In those cases, the fact that humans might be surprisingly resilient overall but generally do not cope that well with fast changes and challenges certainly does not help. We need time to adapt. The more tragic the event, the more time we need. So, it does bear reason that we need to slow down at times, particularly when times get hard and complicated. After all, life is a journey, not a checklist.

While this can be done in a busy, hectic city, is quiet simplicity and beauty can help to restore an upset balance – over time, that is. Of course, most of us can’t afford weeks and weeks of vacation every year. Luckily – at least in part – this is something Second Life (SL) can offer. It does require some adapting to the virtual world, sure! But if it helps to take artificially added drama out of one’s life and helps to relax, then more power to it, right? What could be wrong about quiet walks on lonely beaches, hanging out at clubs with friends, going to live concerts, picking up a hobby, or even taking classes at universities? When exploring SL, once in while one

might stumble into such a world of perfect tranquility – perfect for those quiet walks alone. While this is helpful for personal balance, most couples also need quiet time together to rekindle their love and keep the relationship alive. So why not pick Love Katz for your next exploration?

the visitor. Granted, they are not exactly talented singing birds, but their songs cannot be missed at any beach. Looking out onto the water, the piece of land that encloses the cove on the right lures with lush vegetation. Perhaps some adventures and secrets await the courageous explorer? Certainly, the location rewards with stunning views over the island.

On entry, owner Kat (kat.chauveau) provides you with the basic rules, as most public destinations in SL these days do. These rules fit the standard bill of respect and manners; a reminder that you are a guest to someone’s passionately created getaway.

High waves torment the Eastern shores, inviting the surfers to ride their boards. It does seem that Kat (the owner) has a love for the surf. Boards are lined up along different places. Will you find the one that provided the subtitle for this article?

Further along sits a beach bar a casual place to enjoy concerts – all it takes to have some fun and enjoy a relaxed time. So why not slide your toes in the sand for a little while? There are also very romantic corners on this beautiful isle. Sphere-shaped loungers give a little bit of seclusion at this public beach set to Moderate. This setup gives a reasonable amount of privacy for romantic cuddles. When exploring the island, visitors can find a stylish mansion. Like all explored houses on the sim, the manor is set to public. The house has cozy sitting areas around an inviting pool. A bit further sits a large pavilion. The architecture is ‘outdoorsy,’ lacking one of the four walls that would make up a basic house. This venue is perfect for formal parties and weddings. The second hill of the island is home to a lighthouse tower with a rustic little house, perfectly built for the tropics.

What an amazing place to enjoy the breathtaking vista overlooking the bay.

No matter what one prefers to relax, it can typically be found at Love Katz. Slow down the daily rat race by taking a walk on the idyllic side of life, and leave the wild side behind for a while. If life bears a secret, perhaps it is the ability to slow down and remember the calm of one’s own pace in life.Granted, it cannot always be done as the demons of our Real Life dictate what gets slammed in your way and some deadlines are mandatory. All we can do is understand that we might have limited control over what is put in our way, but we do have a good deal of control over how we relax and rebuild our strength. All we need to do is keep at it. So, why not give Love Katz a try!

Just keep in mind what the board says: If you are lucky enough to be at the beach, you are lucky enough!

SECOND LIFE - PARIS We were saddened watching Notre Dame burn. But the centuries-old cathedral will be rebuilt because Paris always rises. Like its real-life counterpart, The Second Life City of Lights shines bright. Ready for a virtual tour of the French capital that makes Mona Lisa almost smile? Oui? Good. Let’s visit Paris in Second Life. Little Paris Little Paris - Orsay, Southfield (134, 34, 2401) There is something about walking the streets of a city almost as old as recorded history. Little Paris in SL has this feeling and more. The Eiffel Tower is here-- so are the Moulin Rouge, art galleries, and lovely parks. A favorite is Rossiti, a quaint Parisian square of French music and sidewalk cafes almost in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. Along the Seine, we have Le Musée d’Orsay where I used only artwork which can be found in the real Orsay.” She adds, “Moulin Rouge, which holds a nightclub, is found on the other bank of the river with Sacré-Coeur above. A big ballet store is located just beside the grand Opéra Garnier.”

Much of the scenery derives from photos of Paris taken by Milky, a Denmark resident who travels to France often. She works with light and textures - even changing the seasons accordingly. Love and Harmony Restaurant, Paris Love & Harmony Restaurant and Weddings, Eclipse Point (235, 52, 21) We teleport from Little Paris and take it to the top where the top is as good as it gets - the Eiffel Tower. Fine SL dining for two is available by reservation in the French icon rising 980 feet above the city. For many of us, experiencing fine French dining at the top of the Eiffel tower will never happen in Real Life. But in SL, click the mouse and voila! We are here!

“Here” is Love and Harmony Restaurant, Paris, where the dinner, dancing, and romance of France transcend into a pixel counterpart. “I will take you to the heart of the Eiffel Tower,” says Orchide Delmar, designer of the Second Life symbol of France. “Let’s have coffee.” Sipping java in the Eiffel Tower with its SL architect is not an offer one turns down. Love and Harmony, Paris is billed as “a unique venue infused with dreams and magic.” And all I can add to that is – “Mais oui.”

“I do romantic dinners for couples,” Orchide continues, describing amour in the City of Love. “Guests book anniversaries, engagements, or a very romantic date. Features vary with the package chosen but include fresh roses for the lady and a live serenade with French accordion at the diner’s table.”

Like the real Eiffel Tower, visitors to the Second Life one come from all over the world. They are presented fancy menus with oh la’ la’ entrees and an unforgettable experience.

For above sea-level activities, visitors can check out the Beach Club. I’m told it is popular with the land dwellers. Features include a roomy swimming pool and socializing area. Other TP options include three levels of forests, two caves, and much more on land and in sea.

“There have been many Versailles sims,” notes creator, Josephine de Mailly d’Haucourt. “However, the biggest one disappeared years ago, so I decided to rebuild because I love it so much.” She started building Versailles over a year ago, and it is still a work in progress. TOO NICE OUT I know I promised you an inside scene this month, but it is just too nice out to waste time inside. I decided to compromise and use this covered verandah with its own fireplace, which is pretty close to inside without actually being there! The gorgeous Genoveva Hacienda Poolhouse with its multi-stories and fabulous pool area is from Trompe Loeil. This place takes indoor-outdoor flow to the next level with two verandah areas, including this one, and two indoor areas that could be changing rooms, lounges, or bedrooms. This is a purpose plus home. And this month’s scene is all about colour, colour, and more colour. Did I mention colour? Good, because sometimes I tend towards natural tones, but not this month. This month, I am celebrating summer’s arrival with bright teals, greens, and pinks. A small hint of browns and whites accents the colours, but they are not the centre of attention. I am also happy to show you a variety of items from Boardwalk. This dedicated home & garden event is great for those of us who stalk SL looking for new items with which to decorate our houses. I will let you know which items are from Boardwalk in the credits below.

Written and Photography by: Arya Braveheart The Summer Living Room Set from Joolee Tee Designs are at Boardwalk and were the central piece of my scene. The colours are awesome in this set, and I love the yellow of the sofa mixed with the lemon-coloured chairs to give us a citrus feel. Plus the contrast of the teal dresser and the red coffee table. Delicious! I then had to go hunting for some other coloured pieces and found the Serenity Style Retro Outdoor Set. This set is great because you can use the texture hud to choose the colours you want. I also found the cool Record Shelf from Clover and decided the verandah needed a pillow area to go with. Every music area needs a comfy chair, so the set from {what next} fit the spot perfectly. I just want to hang here and spin some vinyl. In fact, I would be quite happy to retreat here after a swim on those cooler summer nights and just enjoy the fire and a margarita. Cheers! I had a load of fun setting up this scene, and I hope you all enjoy the colours and the summer vibe. Make this summer a fun one by sampling some new stores and new events. Don’t be afraid to go bold!

COCOON CYBERPUNK ROLE-PLAY “It is the year 2489. What’s left of Earth is a byproduct of the things that went wrong there. The outcome of the Transcendence War transformed the surface into a blighted wasteland and forced the refugee remnants of mankind skyward.” AThis is how the story of Cocoon Cyberpunk Roleplay begins. Originally created as part of a passion project for owner Mii1a Resident, a.k.a. El: “Cyberpunk has always been a passion of mine, the ambiance, the possible future we face, and the technology. Mixed with human elements such as shady deals, corruption, and the conflict between Corporations and Crime Organizations. Cyberpunk as a genre feels very relatable to me on a personal level, coinciding with my experiences from living in dense, imposing cities, working late night shifts in neon-lit city centers and learning to survive amid it all. It made me want to experiment with the setting, to create something immersive, using Second Life® as a platform to express it all.” One woman’s dream and a community yearning for a place to develop stories are what led to Cocoon becoming a reality. While Cyberpunk has been around for a while, certain places have come and gone, leaving people wanting more.

Article and Photography by: LovelyMiwako7399 “Cocoon is a Roleplay sim that originated from the mind of El and has been fed by the different people who are part of her staff and the actual players. Established in 2016, Cocoon has seen several changes, such as evolving from only having two playable locations to now having three open-Cocoon Station, Luna Colony and Earth Site X17-- and one more on the way, the ever so elusive and vibrant Mars’ own Hades Colony. Like El mentions: “Cocoon was conceived with the idea that people from different currents of Cyberpunk could feel identified with, with some elements from Deus Ex, Ghost In The Shell, Bladerunner, Cyberpunk 2020, and more present in the sim. While at the same time, striving to create our own locations and give our community the chance to create and weave new stories themselves.” Cocoon is in its heart a community, and as El mentions, it is also what has kept her going through it all: “While we have had challenges like any nascent RP Community, it has always pushed me beyond my own limits to try and come out with something new and unique to Cocoon, and with the help of the staff, we have been able to move forward together. And we’re looking forward to new and exciting challenges ahead.”

Bosl edition

27

Cocoon stands out in a league of its own because of a few things; for one, El has created her own RP system called INTERLINK >system, a HUD that allows players to interact with the entire sim and community. The Interlink System has been configured to react and respond to whatever the players want to do from communicating to fighting in any of the three styles offered Freeform, Meter, and Diceroll). El notes when discussing creating the system HUD: “It has been a new, exciting, and scary adventure to be sure. People rarely measure up the complexity of a task like this one until they fully

get into it. It started as a means to have an easy way of doing combat, but with more people joining and more feedback received from our community, the system grew and there was nothing easy about it.

Any SL resident over 60 days old can apply to Cocoon Cyberpunk RP, and once accepted the character creation is also fairly simple. Players are required to select name, race, and role, most of them based on the original RPG Cyberpunk 2020.

Then, the player will need to allot points to specific In the end, Cocoon is a sim where lovers of all things skills to create a Dice character sheet. Cyberpunk can come and make their home with an approachable staff and a constantly updated system. All new players receive one vehicle license, a meter El hopes that Cocoon “would still be a place to go weapon, and 10,000 Cocoon Credits that allow for a different RP scenario, with the community them to acquire several items for their dice build, working closely with the staff to continue making it meter weapons, or even new licenses to vehicles the sim I know it can be.” that will allow them to race in the streets of Cocoon. The different factions in Cocoon allow for people to work, further their stories, and see how they interweave with other players’ stories.
