LAVENDER LAKE Article and Photography by: Sammie Audion Second Life (SL) is more relevant than ever in the midst of lockdowns and ‘Stay-At-Home’ orders during these troubling times of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Travel and daily life for many have ground to a halt in RL— but in SL, we can safely travel to Italy. Not that we are going to the provinces of Lombardi or Lodi, where Italian outbreak started. Neither will we travel to Florence, where the hectic city life can drown out the experience of the art and architecture. No, we will travel about south to the tranquility of the lovely Tuscany countryside, with its villages and rolling hills. Our destination is a picturesque little village. Most villages in the Tuscany are not situated on a lake or the seashore. Our village of choice, however, has a nice waterfront, and the village itself is built on a hillside. The landscape reminds one of Cinque Terre, meaning “Five Lands”, a coastal area within Liguria in the northwest of Italy at the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. If it did influence the creator of this sim, then what a good choice for an inspiration

and what a masterful implementation! However, the sim holds a branch of the Banco Toscana, and Cinque Terre is certainly not located within Tuscany. Of course, in SL, details like these are of no hindrance. The lovely lake is called Lavender Lake and has given the village its name. Visitors arrive by at a pier close to something like a marketplace with a lovely outside restaurant. Breads, meats, and fruits are dished out alongside that famous Italian wine. The bay view is inviting, and off in the distance, one can see the horizon of the sea. A boat is waiting alongside the pier, ready for splendid maritime adventures. Wandering up the street through the village, a farmer’s market can be found and some more restaurants— well, of course restaurants; we are in Italy, after all. Further down is a construction site. The workers are still studying the plan, and they don’t seem to be entirely sure what the desired outcome should be. As we journey farther down the street, we arrive at a lovely Irish pub.

The Irish are well known for their hospitality, and a You might even be able to convince the owner of the nice cold beer might be the perfect refreshment on restaurant to sell you a bottle of wine with two glasses this summery afternoon. for you and your date. The village has cozy accommodations for visitors a little farther up the village Albergo Cisterna, right next to the Banca Toscana. Just down the street, some rental houses are nestled along the way. A hidden gem here is that one roof balcony provides an amazing view while allowing nice privacy— so use your cam to find it. Some other houses remind me of the Greek village Santorini with its white walls, blue doors and window frames. And there is so much more to see, including a luxury villa with an old-time convertible parked in front of the impressive entry.

This simply stunning design of the region is a product of Tonal. Behind Tonal is creator and owner Lola Sirena Lionheart (lolasirena), who has created a variety of stunning places in SL. Lavender Lake is a community and has openings for new residents. So, whether it be for a romantic visit or a new home: Enjoy your time at Lavender Lake. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Tonal%20 Destination/152/179/35 Check out Tonal at http://www.tns-sl.com/

Strolling back down the hill to the waterfront, visitors receive an invitation from shaded chairs at the sandy beach for a little afternoon nap or a nice chat with good company.

Therefore, why not indulge in this romantic illusion of some good old times paired with a little raunchiness? Be aware that this Cuban dream is closer to the naughty, erotic tango than a nice Rockabilly romance. This homestead is set to adult – hence, not exactly the ideal destination for a family vacation. While our creative minds create an idealized composition when provided with the right and colorful details, what might it do to the big picture? Could it be that if we are provided with the right overall view, our mind will come up with the reasoning and the details? Of course,, given that said big picture meets the right sport for frustration, dreams, or desires. Just imagine this would be paired with peers that share in and confirm what non-peer might consider unreasonable. The basic preset of a cult is born giving room for a tribal mindset (us against the others). Scary! Now, this is not to say keeping a general big picture of something or put something in a bigger context is a bad thing of course. It’s just do say, if we let our mind to play tricks on us, it might like to play. Which can of course

be beautifully relaxing and healthy – even therapeutic as long as it is exercised with a watchful eye – probably just like everything in life. https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Libera/139/92/30

LOST UNICORN Clutched in the vice of a global pandemic, we are at wit’s end. So, let’s preserve the wit and move the end to a fantasy world void of social distancing. It is time for escapism in a good way. Oh, give me a home where the unicorns roam, and Noralie78 knows just the place. An 8-year SL veteran, Noralie is a landscape designer/creator with countless sims to her name. One such masterpiece is Lost Unicorn, A Unicorn Sanctuary. In trying times, it is more than a sanctuary— it is welcomed relief. The mystical mission is actually an umbrella over several spots: Lost Unicorn, Finian’s Dream, The Lost Unicorn Gallery, and more. Each includes unicorns, faeries, mermaids, dragons, woodland creatures, and more elves than a shift change at Keebler Cookies. But let’s concentrate on little horses with horns. Lost Unicorn is described as a “[d]reamy and magical unicorn sanctuary within a beautiful elven forest.” It opened in 2017. “We have changed and improved it in the past years,” Noralie says about the stunning grounds of make-believe. “The essence has always been about unicorns and elves.” To navigate this realm of cyber fantasy, take the teleport and take your time. Six main areas await with sub regions of rental properties, dance coves, and hiking paths in each: Bridge to Sto – an idyllic setting of meadows, ponds, and navigable boats with navigable creatures, both real world and other world. Crystal Cavern – a winding cavern where earth meets forest.

Article By: CompE|Photography by:Cara Paine Walk slowly, take your time, and relax. For here, you almost have to. Every glen, cove, and valley has something to see. Those who hurry miss it – which is a good lesson to learn in the real world, taught in this second one. Since childhood, Natalie Montagne has been fascinated by the mystical and magical. She owns Lost Unicorn, lives and loves it. “I have always had a great love for anything to do with fantasy,” she says. “In particular, faeries, elves, unicorns, and magical forests. I also love the Irish/Celtic culture, especially after finding out I have a lot of Irish ancestry. The stories and beauty of it all inspires creativity and the enjoyment of all the amazing talent found in SL.” The third person in this talented trio is Jaimy Hancroft, creature creator, including unicorns, elves, and other creatures of the cyber world blended with those of enchanted forests and J.R.R. Tolkien. Artwork is available at nearby Lost Unicorn Gallery. TP to a majestic old castle almost as eye-popping as the enchanted world that brought you here where a collection of original pieces from Second Life artists are on display. Landscape creator Noralie notes, “There are many recurring visitors, and often I see people bringing their families or friends. Sometimes they talk to each other, but I don’t think a sim like this is much of a social hub. I think most people really come here to relax or have a romantic time, or of course to explore!” Activities include boating, hiking, unicorn watching, and— with permission— on-site weddings– free of charge!

DJust contact site owner, Natalie. “Both sims (Lost Unicorn and Finian’s Dream) are intended to give people a place to get away, escape from the everyday, Flower Fairies - where little winged people converse with humans. The Elves – stately estates and cottages. The land of the elven and you. Underwater – an aqua-adventure where merfolk hang out in the depths below. Unicorn Valley – eye-popping scenery with playful unicorns. One arrives by walking through slowly opening wooden doors into a misty dreamlike forest. It’s not long before the first unicorn encounter. A snow-white mother with her baby, prancing through fields of clover. This place is beautiful by design.

“Creating a sim is way more than rezzing objects,” Noralie adds. “A lot of thought and research goes into it. I put everything together and make it look as one.” One wonders why this world of unicorns and elves seems real. The answer is because much of Lost Unicorn has real life counterparts. “My inspiration for forests usually comes from forests that I have visited in real life,” explains Noralie. “I am inspired by the Belgian Ardennes, German Schwarzwald, and the forests of Northern France.” Her goal in Lost Unicorn archives dense forest, overgrown, a bit dark and mysterious but not malicious. The greenery is dark, lush, and thick. Being lost along the trail is an expectation but never a concern.

For whatever the reason, take a few minutes or a few days to visit Lost Unicorn, a land that is cyber-natural, supernatural, Noralie notes, “This sim vistas are mostly peaceful, dreamy and COVID-19 free. scenery that offers relaxation. A fantasy made virtual and accessible to all. Everyone needs a place that breathes peace and positivity to be alone with their own thoughts or to bring someone special.” Visitors sense a belonging.

just relax,” Natalie says. “While visiting, we encourage people to take photographs, dance, and enjoy the music. We also allow people on horseback (or any type of rider) and almost any kind of avatar is welcome. Although they are not considered roleplay Sims, we do have many role players that visit, too :).”

HOMES FOR SALE With a lot of us at home in RL at the moment, stuck looking at the insides of our own homes for a long period of time, I figured we might feel like a house change in SL. So, because I can wander where I want in SL, I thought I would take a look at the events that offer builds including houses, sheds, and other structures. My main focus, however, was homes. Something you could live in whatever the style of your sim or land. That is why I have included two builds that may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but would work if you are into the grungier side of life. In other words, something for everyone! I apologize if I missed any homes from events. I had to go with the Seraphim website as my main source, and it took me ages to scroll through all the events to find the houses. But, for you, I will do the hard work! I could only do events that were open at the time I wrote and submitted this article, so forgive me if your favorite event is not included. Also, some of these events will be finished by the time this goes to press (yes, I know it is online), but you can find the homes at the main store of each store. The first event I went to was Fameshed, and they have a great area for viewing houses, builds, and some furniture. Fameshed starts on the 1st of each month and has a real variety of home and garden items, which I always head for first. The easiest way to get to the build’s platform is to find a house and click on the ‘teleport to demo area’ sign, which will be nearby. When I visited, there was also a good lot of furniture to view, as well.

Article and Photography by: Arya Braveheart There were some other events that often have homes, but when I visited, they didn’t have any or I could not view a demo copy. As I mentioned earlier, not all events were open when I was looking about. I hope you enjoy finding a new home to enjoy in SL.
