Welcome to the 2024 Carmel Classic Invitational. It’s an honor to have you all here.
Together, we’re turning our love for golf and community into millions of dollars for causes that matter most. The Carmel Classic isn’t just a tournament—it’s a force for good. With 12 charities in focus, we’re tackling affordable housing, healthcare, fighting human trafficking, food insecurity, and giving at-risk kids the education they deserve.
Since the very first Carmel Classic, we’ve seen the incredible impact of our efforts. Over the years, this event has raised more than $3.75 million dollars, helping thousands of families across the country. From building homes to creating opportunities for underserved communities, the lives we’ve touched remind us why we do this.
I want to recognize the heart behind this event—my 26 fellow Carmel Classic Founders. These visionaries didn’t just lend their names—they gave their time, dollars, and passion to build something bigger than any one of us. Their belief in this mission is what makes this possible.
This year, I’m especially excited about the live auction—we’ve truly taken it to the next level. The donations we’ve secured are remarkable, and every bid, big or small, is your opportunity to be part of something bigger than ourselves. That’s where the real magic happens in the lasting impact this event has on the many communities we support through the Carmel Classic.
So, let’s enjoy this beautiful place, connect with each other, and make a difference. It’s not just about golf—it’s about changing lives. As we say each year at this special event: Bid big! Bid often! And most importantly, bid with your heart.
Thank you for being part of this journey. I look forward to sharing an inspiring and unforgettable weekend with you.
With gratitude,
Pat Hamill
An Icon on the Coast
It’s a slice of California like no other.
When you think of the Northern California coast, chances are the images that come to mind are something like this: long, sandy coves fringed with deepgreen cypress trees; craggy, rocky cliffs with waves crashing below; road trip–ready highways along the Pacific, dotted with sprawling golf resorts with destination restaurants.
All of those things come to life on the Monterey Peninsula, home to Pebble Beach and Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Golf and Pebble Beach are synonymous, and for the die hard player, Pebble Beach is the pinnacle when it comes to public courses (Golf Digest ranks it #1). It has hosted six U.S. Opens (more than any other course in the past five decades) and is set to host its seventh in 2027.
Indeed, playing the esteemed courses of Pebble Beach is a thrill. From the links at Pebble Beach itself, to the beautiful Spyglass Hill and Del Monte courses, to the inimitable sounds of bagpipes at sunset over the iconic greens of Spanish Bay, our time at the Carmel Classic is sure to be one to remember.
What’s more, calling the incomparable Lodge at Pebble Beach home for the weekend is a rare and unsurpassed privilege for any tournament, charity or otherwise. Staring out at The Lone Cypress on 17-Mile Drive brings with it an emotional power and shock-and-awe beauty that is second to none. It is fitting then, that we are joining together at this unrivaled locale to harness another kind of power - the power of giving back.

— Donaires Ordonez, HBI Graduate
One of the most impactful stories comes from our Comfort K9 Program. Shelby, a black Labrador retriever, has become a beloved figure in the community, particularly among young victims of abuse. Shelby’s calming presence has helped countless children open up during investigations and feel safer throughout the legal process. Her impact on these young lives is a testament to the power of compassionate policing and the difference our Foundation can make in fostering healing and resilience.”
Denver Police Foundation
The Denver Police Foundation aims to foster a safer, stronger community by supporting the Denver Police Department with funding and resources that are not readily available through the city budget. We are committed to bridging the gap between the police force and the community, promoting positive interactions, and enhancing public safety through education, outreach, and engagement.
The Impact
Thanks to the generous support from our donors and community partners, the Denver Police Foundation has achieved significant outcomes:
Enhanced Public Safety: Funds raised have been used to purchase critical equipment such as ballistic vests, trauma kits, and a new training simulator, directly contributing to the safety of officers and the community.
Community Engagement: Our events have strengthened relationships between the police and the community. The positive interactions at these events help build trust and foster mutual respect, which are essential for effective community policing.
Support for Youth and Vulnerable Populations: Through initiatives like the Comfort K9 Program, the Foundation has provided comfort to victims of crime, particularly children. The program has helped hundreds of young people find solace and courage in difficult times, showcasing the compassionate side of law enforcement. Additionally, the Just PLAY and Hoop for Safety programs have given children the chance to participate in sports and activities, promoting healthy lifestyles and positive police-youth interactions.
Eagle Valley Community Foundation
Eagle Valley Community Foundation is a unique community foundation, providing responsive solutions for neighbors in need. The organization addresses food insecurity, provides health & wellness resources, supports nonprofit capacity building, and helps build community leadership among people of color. The foundation empowers individuals and families to gain a hand up, not a hand out.
One of the Foundation’s most impactful programs, The Community Market helps makes sure that sure that no family in our community has to choose between paying bills or putting food on the table. In Eagle County, more than 8,700 residents deal with food insecurity. The Community Market (TCM) provides access to free, nutrient-rich food throughout the County with markets featuring a variety of fresh produce, meat, dairy and bread as well as shelf-stable grocery items, all available for each customer’s own choosing. The Community Market also works to prevent food from going to waste by offering grocery rescue and food distribution to nearby rural communities and programs in need.
Another of the foundation’s most notable programs is MIRA (Mobile Intercultural Resource Alliance) When it comes to promoting wellness for the people who live and work in Eagle County, MIRA is about taking down barriers that often get in the way of prioritizing healthcare for families in need. The MIRA bus is a one-stop integrated and culturally relevant way to connect people to basic health education and screenings, support in applying to public assistance programs, food resources, workforce development, coordination with childhood programming, and more.
“Through the MIRA Bus, we connect individuals with health and wellness resources. We understand how hard it is to make ends meet when you live in our beautiful valley. Some families have two or three jobs and they are trying to also find time to spend with their children and schoolwork. When you add in other issues like a lack of transportation and language differences, they simply feel there are too many barriers to going to the doctor or prioritizing their health. MIRA helps create a caring, trusted network that comes together for them – and brings services to them – as it builds hope, trust, and wellness for all.”
– Melina Valsecia, Eagle Valley Community Foundation Executive Director

Hoola Na Pua/Pearl Haven
The vision of Ho‘ōla Nā Pua began over a decade ago, when Jessica Muñoz was working as a Nurse Practitioner in the emergency room and began to notice signs of physical and psychological abuse being endured by sexually exploited children in Hawai‘i. Given the hidden nature of child sex trafficking, the true abuse was often misidentified and left untreated, despite it being the most horrific crime against children. In simple terms: she became aware of a sex trafficking crisis in Hawai‘i, with no sustainable solution for intervention.
Ho’ōla Nā Pua (New Life for Our Children) was founded to shine light on the dark criminal enterprise of sex trafficking, placing the health of Hawaii’s youth at the center of its mission. The organization is committed to the prevention of sex trafficking and providing care for children who have been exploited. Ho’ōla Nā Pua (HNP) is dedicated to creating a community where children are safe and have the ability to embrace their bright futures. Today, not only does HNP offer integrated programming that reaches over thousands of youth and community members and stakeholders across the state of Hawaii annually, but is considered a national partner and a rising standard in the global effort to stop sex trafficking, permanently.
The Impact
In 2023, Ho’ōla Nā Pua served over 15,000 youth and community members (a 50% increase since 2022) through:
• Direct service programming
• Empowering youth ages 11-24 through prevention education
• Trauma-informed groups
• 1-to-1 mentoring
• Advocate services
• Care coordination and residential care at the Pearl Haven Campus
Prior to admission, 1 out of 5 had been placed in special education classes, and almost 50% experienced academic difficulties. Now, 80% receive A-B Honor Roll status in core subjects, and 100% pass their classes.
Participants have also seen a 47% reduction in trauma symptoms, 58% decrease in depressive symptom, 33% improvement in anxiety symptoms, and a 33% increase in social connections.
Most will never understand the impact of what exploitation does to a precious life. As I sat with her and listened to the battles she faces minute by minute, my heart began to race, tears streamed down my face, and a wave of righteous anger welled up in me as I thought about how incredibly hard it is for the youth we serve to choose to face the healing process every day. And those that have exploited and used them… trafficker and buyer alike…seem to be able to move on with their lives unscathed from the devastation they caused. THIS MUST END.”
-Jessica Muñoz, CEO & Founder
Slowly but surely, I started healing, and I realized that the program was helping me to become a better person. I went from somebody who never wanted to leave the darkness, whether that was in my head or not, to somebody whose light shone like a phoenix from the ashes. “

STORIESIMPACT of
Hope’s nightmare began when her father raped her at the age of eight. An incident she kept secret for many years, she recalls the moment now, remembering how he went back to sleep as if nothing ever happened. “I was so scared. Why would he do that to me? I loved him. He’s my father, why would he abuse me?”
It wasn’t long before Hope became a victim of sexual exploitation, forced into the trade by her parents to earn money for the family. At the time, she thought she was being a good daughter—doing as she was told and help-
exploitation. Through the patient and faithful care of their loving staff, Hope’s once-closed heart slowly began to open.
Today, Hope has dreams of becoming a psychologist so that she can help others who have traveled similar roads as hers. In her own words, she now lives “free.” Her new-found freedom has given her the courage to share her story with those around her, recognizing that it may help someone else.
Child sexual exploitation is a massive problem in the Philippines. Like Hope, many children are forced into the industry by their own parents or other relatives, usually as a means to earn income. But with your help, we can be a part of the redemption story of so many of these precious children.
At six-years-old, Brett entered foster care. He spent 11 years in and out of group homes and different foster placements. Growing up in state care was difficult, and when he aged out in 2009, Brett was determined to have a successful adulthood, but didn’t know where to start. Fortunately, he found LifeSet.
There are roughly 47,000 children and young adults in state care in Massachusetts and 800 young adults age out of foster care each year. LifeSet serves as a bridge from foster care to successful adulthood and helps young adults build the skills they need to live independently and successfully. Through LifeSet, Brett achieved the many goals he set for himself, including getting his GED, going to college and finding his own place to live. “High school was hard for me because I moved around so much and was always at a new school,” Brett recalls.
Brett graduated from college and participated in the Youth Village’s Job Prep program, a series of workshops that helps young adults build the skills they need to find and maintain employment.
In the years since, Brett found gainful employment, moved out of a dangerous neighborhood and found a safe, secure place to live. He got a job as a delivery driver with national moving company Two Men and a Truck. Coincidentally, the company had been a long-time corporate partner to Youth Villages, working to deliver thousands of backpacks and holiday gifts to children, families and young adults in Youth Villages’ care.
Fast forward to December 2020, Brett was reunited with Youth Villages when Two Men and a Truck sent him to the Youth Villages office in Woburn, Massachusetts, to pick up and deliver 3,000 holiday gifts for young people in need. Brett was so excited to be back at the place that had given him so much as a young adult and enthusiastically told the staff about the great experience he had in LifeSet.
Just a few months later, Brett hit a huge milestone with Two Men and a Truck and became the first and only employee in the company’s Boston North location to complete 1,000 moves. This earned him a spot in the 1,000 Move Club and shortly after, Brett was promoted to operations manager.
Today, Brett has achieved successes that, at one point in his life, he never thought would be possible. “LifeSet is such an incredible program,” Brett said. “There’s no way I’d be where I am today if I hadn’t been in LifeSet. I hope my specialist knows just how much she changed my life.”
Temple Grandin Equine Center
The Temple Grandin Equine Center is Colorado State University’s initiative focused on integrating research, education, and outreach in equine-assisted services. The Center advances the science of incorporating horses to benefit people through three phased tracks of rigorous scientific inquiry: 1) systematic review research, 2) research of occupational therapy in an equine environment for children with autism, and 3) research of equine-assisted learning for people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
Hundreds of children and adults already have received therapy for neurodevelopmental, physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. Their sessions with horses are delivered by licensed occupational therapists, physical therapists, counselors, psychotherapists, and speech-language pathologists. The center is named for Temple Grandin, a renowned professor and author in CSU’s Department of Animal Sciences, who has contributed unmatched knowledge to the spheres of humane livestock handling and autism advocacy. Grandin, now 74 years old, has coped with autism in her own life. Yet, her boundless influence has spread not in spite of the condition, but because of it. In 2010, she sprang to public attention as the subject of an acclaimed HBO biopic, Temple Grandin, followed by a widely viewed TED Talk and inclusion on TIME magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
The Impact
In 2021 and 2022, the TGEC completed construction on two new facilities to house equine-assisted services education, research and programming at the CSU Foothills campus in Fort Collins and at the CSU Spur campus in Denver.
Within six months, the Denver location grew to provide 75 EAS appointments per week.

JOE ADEEB
Founder,
Bono’s Pit Bar-B-Que
Joe Adeeb was literally born and raised in the restaurant business. His family owned the Green Turtle and Sea Turtle restaurants, considered Jacksonville’s premier fine dining restaurants for many years. Adeeb worked his way up in the business from busboy to manager to owner.
In 1980, he bought Bono’s Pit Bar-B-Q, a Jacksonville dining staple for 70 years. Since then, Adeeb guided expansion of the family-owned barbecue to 37 restaurants in five states. Among them are 20 Bono’s full-service restaurants plus 17 franchise Willie Jewel’s Old School Bar-B-Q restaurants.
Earlier this year, Adeeb passed the torch as Bono’s longtime president to Josh Martino, then-chief operating officer. Martino, who’s also company legal counsel, is Adeeb’s son-in-law. Yet he hardly retired. He still taste-tests recipes in Bono’s catering kitchen and tends to other details of the business. Not even the smallest ones escape his attention. Even if it’s just picking up a piece of litter as he walks across the restaurant’s parking lot.
That’s just his nature. It’s also his longtime management style. Attention to details is what it takes, he says, to run a successful restaurant as well as instill a sense of pride in the work among employees.
That’s what I preach to all our general managers, ‘just treat people the way you want to be treated’.”

STORIESIMPACT of
Hayde and Fernando Gonzalez's journey with PlantifulRoots Microgreens is a beautiful story of resilience, growth, and giving back to the community. Their microgreens, which are popular among chefs for garnishing and enhancing dishes, are also incredibly nutritious.
The idea of starting their own business came to Hayde and Fernando during the pandemic. "Fernando and I were growing our own food, and then we decided to grow microgreens as a business. It was a good decision. It was something that the Valley would appreciate," Hayde recalls. Little did they know that this decision would lead them back to the community in a way they never expected.
Hayde's story is one of strength and determination. After going through a difficult divorce, she found herself struggling to make ends meet, even with a steady job. "There were times when I didn't have anything," Hayde remembers. "I had a six-year-old, so it was very tough." In her time of need, she turned to The Community Market, a local resource that provided her with the support she needed to feed her family.
"The Community Market was wonderful. They were very nice and non-judgmental. I used their resources to feed my family," she says. Hayde's experience at The Community Market left a lasting impression on her, and once PlantifulRoots was up and running, she and Fernando knew they wanted to give back. "We wanted to give back to the community as soon as it was possible for us," Hayde says with pride.
Now, as a former customer turned supplier to The Community Market, Hayde's story has come full circle. Through PlantifulRoots, she and Fernando are not only growing nutritious microgreens but are also planting seeds of kindness and generosity in their community. "People need to know there are a lot of wonderful entities in the community," Hayde says.
Hayde and Fernando's journey with PlantifulRoots Microgreens is a testament to the power of community support and the importance of giving back. Their story reminds us that sometimes, the most beautiful gardens grow from the seeds of adversity, nourished by the kindness of others.

For Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago member Chris, poetry is a coping mechanism. He uses it to express his feelings, but he also hopes that when he performs his poetry, he can connect with people.
“What inspired me to write my poem, ‘Rooted in Joy,’ is that when people go through a hard time, sometimes they can't see that they can still experience joy,” Chris, 13, said. “I want my poem to show that joy is expressed through sorrow. In order to experience joy, you need accept that sorrow.”
Chris’ poem, which he wrote as part of BGCC’s writers’ collective, a group of Club members who write and perform poetry, has already won him a few accolades for his work. He most recently competed in the annual Chicago poetry festival, Rooted and Radical, being one of 20 finalists out of all of Chicago’s young poets.
“I have a way with words, and I feel proud that I get to say those words out loud and connect with strangers,” Chris said. “I don’t know their experiences, but I hope that this poem can help them. If they are going through a bad day, I hope this poem can bring them joy.” Chris also placed second in his age group in the Performing Arts category through Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Arts Contest, a competition between all 5,000+ Boys & Girls Clubs across the country.
“To have so many kids excited to not only express themselves creatively, but to be recognized for their amazing work is truly inspiring,” BGCC’s Arts Manager Kortnee Quiza said. “These outlets are so important for our kids to creatively express themselves with whatever tool they want. We are so proud of all of them and the hard work they put into their pieces.”
Chris said he will continue to work on his poetry, even as he gets busy when he goes to high school next year. “There are a lot of issues going on in the news,” Chris said. “I feel like poetry and journaling is a healthy coping mechanism that can help you feel better and remember to experience joy.”
