CHERRY CREEK’S PREMIER NAIL STUDIO

Is anyone reinventing themselves for 2025? Let me rephrase that. Who ISN’T reinventing themselves for 2025? 2024 was not my favorite year, and I haven’t heard from any who loved it. So, to avoid being Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, we’re turning it up a notch this year with CCM. Are we bored? Excited? Wanting to exceed our own expectations and roll out some new platforms and opportunities? “Yes,” to all of it.

Let’s boogie. For starters, we proudly present our newest member of the family – Cherry Creek Home.In the interim, it’s a magazine within a magazine dedicated to all things home, not only in Cherry Creek, but in all of the stunning adjacent neighborhoods as well. This is just the beginning. We have more in store for the year that promises to turn heads. When I worked in television, we’d call this a tease. In addition to CC Home, without giving away all of our secrets, let’s just say our digital and social media presence will be presenting exciting new and captivating content celebrating Cherry Creek in a way we haven’t done before.

The Winter issue spotlights plenty of parties focusing on the new. Look no further than our Man About Town, Tommy Lloyd, who has big plans this year at The Jacquard (page 30). Or the chefs and kitchens featured in our Dining Guide (page 51) who are gearing up for another year of culinary innovation, hospitality, and yumminess.

And let’s not forget our second annual Wellness & Beauty Guide (page 43). There’s no time like the present to cure whatever ails you mentally, physically, or emotionally and there are no better resources than what Cherry Creek has to offer.\

Sometimes it’s difficult to get back on the horse for another 365 days of the same old song and dance or the possibilities of change, adversity and the unknown. We’re all in this together. Community is important these days. Enjoy the winter and all that it brings. Hang in there. Take care of yourself. Ask for help if you need it. And thank you being one of our readers.

WISHING YOU A BLESSED 2025, FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS.

you can leave your hat on

What began in Folsom, California, has found its way to Cherry Creek as Rancher Hat Bar joins our neighborhood family, creating the experience of customizing western-esque hats with the girly and chic side of fashion. Located at 2445 E. Third Avenue, the level of personalization that is offered is what separates them from the pack. Typical hat bars allow you to customize a band for your hat and an accessory or two. RHB is different in that not only do you get to customize a band, but also brand anything you’d like into the hat, burn the edges with fire, add custom felt, bead bands, pins, rhinestones, feathers, playing cards, sentimental accessories and more. The hats are also of the highest quality, but at a fair price point. A lot of competing hat bars price their hats anywhere between $500 to thousands of dollars, where Rancher Hat Bar has found a sweet spot around the $200 mark.

The Henry to Open on Fillmore

The restaurant group behind North Italia, Flower Child, Blanco Tacos & Tequila and Culinary Dropout plans to open another one of its concepts in Cherry Creek North. Fox Restaurant Concepts said it will bring The Henry, an upscale restaurant with locations in L.A., Miami, Dallas and Phoenix, to a new development in Cherry Creek by 2026.

It’ll open in 201 Fillmore, an eight-story office building with more than 8,500 square feet of ground floor retail. The building is 100% leased before it completes construction. The Henry will have a New Yorkinspired patio in the alley space outside the building with string lights and greenery. The Henry will have its main restaurant on one side of the lobby and a bar on the other side. “The addition of The Henry to 201 Fillmore underscores our commitment to bringing unique dining experiences to Cherry Creek North,” said Kyle Flippen, investment director at the developing firm Schnitzer Wes.“We believe this venue will quickly become a favorite destination for both locals and visitors, enhancing the vibrant community atmosphere.”

Fill ‘Er Up

While it might be hard to believe that Cherry Creek North is lacking much of anything from a visitor’s perspective, Dana Monfort has found a void that she plans on addressing. In the empty space at 2816 E. Third Avenue where Crepes n’ Crepes once sat, a restaurant, bodega, and ice cream shop – all under one roof – are coming our way. Town Pump Provisions, an homage to Monfort’s ties to the trucking industry, will showcase an eatery with “healthy but hearty” options, breakfast, lunch and dinner, gluten-free and vegan options, and beer and wine, along with a frozen mixer for “more fun” drinks, Monfort told Business Den. Inspired by The Green Collective, which operates in LoHi and Wash Park. Town Pump is getting help from Green Collective owner Allison Rifkin with the menu and plan operations, while Green Collective head chef Lauren Egdahl will oversee the kitchen. In addition, the adjoining bodega will provide everything from over the--counter drugs, sundries, and nicotine to its own branded food items, “From the simplest of items to caviar, we’ll have those options,” Monfort said. “It’s going to be that neighborhood corner bodega that everybody goes to and employees recognize you. Not daunting, but you can still get that high-end stuff if you need.” An unnamed ice cream brand with be the third part of this trio that promises to attract plenty of guests. While the building undergoing major renovations, the patio area is also being revamped, with seating, umbrellas, plants and vintage gas pumps. The project is being overseen by Culinary Creative Group’s Kevin Eddy, while CCG founder Juan Padro, has been advising Monfort throughout the process, helping with everything from vendor negotiations to backend software. “It’s borderline criminal that Cherry Creek doesn’t have something like this.”

They also offer Botox and other aesthetic services to help you feel and look your healthiest. CHERRY CREEK’S BEST…

GIFT SHOPS

There’s no better place in Denver to find the perfect gift than Cherry Creek. And in Cherry Creek, there’s nothing quite like the neighborhood’s locally-owned gift shops to uncover the most unique gems. Here, we share our picks for the neighborhood’s best gift shops, in no particular order. -- Betsy Marr

SHOW OF HANDS

1 2 1 3 4

We love this female-owned, locally grown art and gift gallery for so many reasons. A neighborhood staple for over 40 years, Katie Friedland’s store is chock-full of character. Every item is produced by small, artisanal companies and artists – from handmade soaps to quirky dish-towels, baby gifts and cocktail glasses. You can rest assured that you’ll find something they don’t have but will undoubtedly love, and you’re certain to find a must-have or two for yourself as well. Part gift shop, part gallery, Show of Hands offers colorful wares that are decisively Colorado and decidedly cool.

We just included this longtime Denver shop on our last iteration of The List (for best home decor), but we’d be remiss to not name The Lark one of the neighborhood’s best places for gifts, too. From sleek coffee table books to chic objets d’art, all the way to simple hostess gifts like cocktail napkins and candles, The Lark always delivers. A bit off the beaten path, the darling shop has been housed in the same quaint building in the Denver Country Club enclave since first opening in 1971. When considering a purchase whether it’s a car, new furniture, fine bottle of wine or, in this case, a new wristwatch – the biggest question is often how to determine quality and value for money. Many people rely on reviews or the opinions of those whose knowledge they trust. This is because most people have difficulty discerning the relative quality of one product versus another.

A luxury purchase is a combination of multiple factors. There is visual appeal, emotional connection, perceived prestige/status as well as a general impression of fit and suitability for the individual. As a luxury watch advisor, we factor in all of the above for each person. All factors need to be evaluated. Brands invest huge sums of money to lure you into their world.

Advertising and marketing is effective, and the most powerful brands today are also the brands with the biggest marketing budgets. Does this imply an inherent quality and value for money at each price level? Not necessarily. Different approaches, resources

and priorities ensure differences in actual quality.

Today’s mechanical watches are generally made to a high standard. However, there are differences in philosophies, know-how, technical excellence, and time spent on finishing quality and decoration, which must all be assessed individually.

So why do people spend diverse amounts of money to achieve the same functional result? For many watch enthusiasts, there is a deep appreciation of the art of horology, respect for traditional craftsmanship, pride of ownership, and a desire to enjoy an object of fine quality.

How do we determine that quality? The answer is not easy. It is always subjective. However, there are tools at your disposal which

with JEREMY OSTER

will help put you in charge of your own decision-making process. Firstly, an open mind is essential. Next, use your best available tools: your eyes and your senses. As a famous movie stated with the future of the galaxy at stake, “Trust your feelings.” You don’t have to be Luke Skywalker here. But you do need to trust yourself.

What does this mean? It means you have the ability to make an informed decision. Do you admire a brand’s history? Or are you drawn to a particular style of watch?

Do you sense passion and see an artistic vision? For a newer brand, do you perhaps see an identity that feels distinctive to you and speaks to your sense of design? Which shape and size of case feels best to you, for your wrist and your lifestyle?

Now let’s talk about the dials (faces) of the watches. This is all about details and balance. Look carefully, go beyond your feelings towards that brand and really look closely at every detail. The first, most important visual decision is whether you find it beautiful. Beauty is achieved through carefully crafted elements and combinations within the design. Is there anything that you would change on the dial? Look at the hands, do they visually fit the dial with appropriate lengths and legibility? Moving to the markers/ indices, do they play with the light as you move the watch? Is it too much play for your taste? Or do you admire the details? This is the part where it becomes clear that there is no one answer that fits all. You have to match up a watch to your individual personality. Brand yourself.

Most fine mechanical watches today feature sapphire case backs showing the mechanism. Look at the appearance of the movement and the edges of the visible bridges and decorations. You do not need to be a watchmaker to discern quality. Compare different watches. The key is to determine whether you feel that you are getting value for money. Only you can decide how much of that value stems from the name on the dial or from your expectation of a feeling of pride of ownership and personal joy when glancing at your wrist hundreds of times a day.

The details that separate one fine watch from another should be very visible to you. It is all about how the different surfaces play with the light. The one factor that should always be considered is your personal emotional connection to your watch. After all, you may wear your watch for many decades and then pass it on to future generations. The watches that you choose to wear are an extension of your personality. The ticking of a mechanical watch mimics the rhythmic beating of a heart and may in fact keep your

man about town

What do like most about working in Cherry Creek?

THE JACQUARD of meet TOMMY LLOYD

Tommy Lloyd has seen some things. As the General Manager of a popular and thriving hotel, he works and crosses paths with countless people. He’s responsible for the well-being and unforgettable stays of thousands of guests at The Jacquard. So, who is this guy? What makes him tick? Join us in learning all things Tommy Lloyd as our Man About Town.

Cherry Creek is truly one-of-a-kind. We are watching something special being developed here. Look at the growth in retail, office, and residential. Those three things combined create a market with a ton of opportunity for the community and its visitors. Cherry Creek will no longer be seen as a neighborhood of Denver, but it will be able to stand alone nationally as a destination. Who would not want to be a part of something so special?

Any favorite neighborhood haunts (other than The Jacquard, of course)? What a fun question! Before I worked in Cherry Creek, I would come here often. To be honest, the Cherry Creek Cricket is my go-to. Outside of that, I love going to Aviano for a Cold Brew in the mornings. Again, the people of this neighborhood are amazing. I love going to Blank Barbershop to get cleaned up. They have an amazing team of barbers and stylists. Did I mention how awesome Henry’s Hot Dog’s is on the corner of 3rd and Milwaukee?

You manage a large crew at The Jacquard. Lots of moving parts. What goes into that for you? I would say first I am not a manager -- I try to be a leader. My goal is always to help the team be better; at least 1% better every day. Are we aligned on our goals, and do they have the tools to get it done? You see, for me, success is not defined by my performance, but rather are we growing together and did my team reach their goals? How do we manage and plan for the day-to-day? It is honestly about hiring, training, and developing the best ambassadors. I trust the team/family to own their areas. I cannot do it all and it takes a team, or as I call it a family, to run this property day to day in one of the most amazing markets in the US.

What’s the last book that left an impression on you? One of the best books I have read recently is Unreasonable Hospitality – it pushes you to think about how hospitality is not always about the product but the experience and how we make people feel. It is truly a powerful book by Will Guidara.

What’s something that most people don’t know regarding what it takes to be a General Manager of a hotel? To be successful as a leader in the hospitality industry, you have to first ensure you are taking care of yourself before you can effectively take care of others.

What are three things you can’t live without? 1.Family First. Everything I do is for them. 2. Love some Cold Brew. 3. Honestly, my Jacquard family. We are building something special!

Who are your five dream dinner guests?

My Grandfather. Tom Brady – I love greatness! Nick Saban – did I mention I love greatness? Simon Sinek – the ultimate optimist. I find his messaging powerful. AND, It may sound crazy, but my future self 10 years from now.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

1. If you are not willing to do more than you are paid for, you will never be paid for more than you’re doing.

2. One of the most powerful forces in life is consistency. Being able to do something in repetition is how you start big movements. Small wins every day.

The most fun you’ve had in a city is where? I love Orange Beach, Alabama, with the family. My wife and I have had some good times in Las Vegas.

What would you tell your 18-year-old self now? Look up and enjoy the ride.

FLORA combines modern luxury with the vibrant energy of Denver’s RiNo neighborhood. With luxury finishes, exclusive amenities, and over 15,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, it’s a community designed for comfort, convenience, and connection.

• Art-driven & design focused

and more

• Adjacent to RiNo Art Park and South Platte River trail

gal about town

She’s a Clayton Hotel OG. There are only two people who were hired before Lydia Howerton in 2020 to the Michelin Key-winning property. She spills the beans on what she’d tell her 18-year-old self, what she can’t live without, the last song she sang out loud in her car, the reasons Clayton has gained national attention, and her favorite neighborhood haunts. Not to mention, if the chef calls in sick, she could probably step in and manage the kitchen. It’s our latest addition (and edition) of Gal About Town.

meet LYDIA HOWERTON of THE CLAYTON

How did you get into the hospitality industry? What is your role at The Clayton like? Clayton is my first proper hotel which I joined in September 2020, as the third employee. I have been working in hospitality since I was 17-years- old. My first job was a barista and then it was on to hostess, catering, event design and then as a private chef for 15 years in Los Angeles before moving to Denver and starting at Clayton. I oversee the Members Club which includes Membership, Food and Beverage and Culinary as well as the marketing and design for the property.

What’s something about your industry that most people don’t know? We work underground in basement offices and eat chicken fingers a few times a week.

Clayton has received both local and national recognition. Why is that? What makes this property unique and such a highly regarded establishment? Stunning design, beautifully appointed spaces and our team is passionate about providing authentic hospitality to our guests.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self? Listen to your intuition and stay focused, and anything that doesn’t “feel” right is not right. Write out your goals.

What is the last book you read? Tom Lake by Ann Patchett

What are three things you can’t live without? My family, my friends and lip moisturiz er (Laneige lip sleeping mask, Aquaphor, Image MD Restore Lip Enhancer SPF 15 are all currently in my purse.)

What’s the last song you sang to in your car? Probably Olivia Rodrigo with my kids. They love a good belt session.

What are your go-to Cherry Creek haunts? The Artisan Center for gifts, Aviano for a macchiato, Lou Collective for style inspiration, The Vineyard Wine Shop for great wines at reasonable prices and Mani Pedi Salon is excellent.

What’s your favorite way to relax? Cooking, a fitness class with a friend, playing games and puzzles with my kids, or organizing a closet (I’m not great at relaxing).

Who are your five dream dinner guests and what are you eating? Alice Waters, Ina Garten, Julia Child, Jhumpa Lahiri and Toni Morrison, and we’re eating salad, pasta, fresh bread, and drinking delicious wine.

What city in the world have you had the most fun in? Any city that I visit with my gal pals.

ELWAY’S DENVER

We’re married. We work together. We see each other all the time. So, what could we possibly talk about while out for dinner? In this case, food. And lots of it. Join us at Elway’s at Ritz-Carlton.

He: For me, Elway’s is a Denver icon. The first great steak I had in Colorado when I moved here 14 years ago was Elway’s. It was the bone-in ribeye and I’m getting that 22-ounce bad boy again tonight. It was that memorable.

She: Totally agree. And there is something about this particular location in the Ritz-Carlton downtown that feels particularly classic to me. A great spot to celebrate something, or nothing at all.

He: Right and in our case, that “nothing at all” is actually a big something. A night without our two boys!

cheeses coming together to create this yummy, creamy masterpiece.

She: Here here! Love them to pieces but as any parent can attest, sometimes, you just need a night out. And Elway’s will most certainly do.

He: I’ll tell you when I wasn’t celebrating. In 1982 at the Rose Bowl when Elway played with Stanford and beat UCLA 38-35 in a shootout. John was slingin’ that game. I expect this meal to make up for him making me cry as a 10-year-old Bruin fan.

She: Ha! What a memory! If our first course is any indication, he’s well on the road to redemption. A longtime favorite of mine, this charred red pepper soup is superb. It’s hardy, without being too rich or creamy and the basil crostini that comes with it is a little bite of heaven.

He: Starting out, I really like the crab cakes and I love this wedge salad. The crab cake has a miso beurre blanc sauce that is so much better than the traditional flavors you’d see accompany a crab cake. Really light and fresh.

She: For me, a steakhouse is a lot like Thanksgiving. It’s all about the sides. And the king of all sides is the mashed potato. Elway’s does the art form proud. The perfect texture, and just a little kick of something you can’t quite put your finger on but know you love.

He: This is easily the best mac n cheese I’ve had anywhere in years. A couple of

She: Let’s digress to the decor for a moment. I really love the interior design changes they’ve made. They kept it classic and didn’t diverge so much that it’s unfamiliar but rather, refreshed. Love the navy and bronze color palette - a fun homage to the home team. Anyhow...back to our regular culinary programming.

He: As predicted, this ribeye is insane. Elway’s doesn’t mess around with their steaks. The seasoning. The tenderness. Melts in your mouth. This is ridiculously delicious.

She: I can say the same for the filet. It’s cooked to perfection and that unmistakable flavor that is the iconic Elway’s steak rub. There’s nothing that compares for me.

He: It’s been a while since a menu has me considering so many options. We need to come back and make another dent because everything reads so well. The Thai Basil Brussels Sprouts with Parmesan black truffle is next on my list.

She: Yes - those look fantastic! I have to say that my steak is perfect, but I love the accompaniments just as much. I ordered it Oscar Style with crab and hollandaise, and the Elway’s iteration is one of the best. It’s nicely chopped and combined with a medley of peppers. Truly genius.

He: Moving on to dessert. I can see why the Ding Dong continues to be their signature. It’s even better than I remember. The two scoops of vanilla are clutch. Someone is going to have to carry me out of here.

She: LOVE the ding dong! The original was phenomenal, and this updated version may be even better. Decadent and rich, but with a fluffy interior that cuts the heaviness and is perfectly, well...perfect. The right way to end such a fanciful meal.

DISCOVER INSPIRED EXPERIENCES IN CHERRY CREEK NORTH

We’re your muse at the confluence of Cherry Creek and the Platte River, where you will discover world-class shopping, restorative stays, and transformational dining. Crafted for the explorer and the epicurean, moments at Hotel Clio always inspire.

ARTURO GARCIA SHOW OF HANDS

It started with a lake in Mexico. Now add wildlife. A pallet knife. An affinity for eye popping color. Never ending inspirations and creativity. His work is prominently displayed at Show of Hands in Cherry Creek. We were thrilled to get acquainted with Arturo Garcia. Now it’s your turn with our Artist in Residence

Where did you grow up? Between Lake Chapala, Mexico, and Denver.

What or who first inspired you to get into art? And what type of art started it all for you? Lake Chapala is an artist community. I grew up with art as part of life. When I was about 10, I started attending classes at a place called Casa de la Cultura, where they allowed kids to come create with all the freedom needed to make art without anyone telling you that you had to do things a certain way. That was the best part. They gave us freedom to create. I would paint from the time they opened at 10:00 am until the instructors had to tell me it was time to leave.

Where did your love for wildlife and animals originate? Probably from the environment growing up at Lake Chapala. I used to spend my summers in a small island on the lake, spending half of my time in the water and the other half in trees, in constant contact with nature and wildlife. The outdoors and wildlife were part of my life growing up.

Why a pallet knife? Stubbornness...ha! Trying to paint with pallet knives was the biggest challenge for me, and it threw me off the painting plateau on more than one occasion. I loved the texture, the relief, the three-dimensional feel, and the effect produced by the bold strokes of the knife. I once saw a painting in a magazine of a boat at a dock done with palette knives and I fell in love with it. So, I tried to imitate that painting for years with much disappointment. And then, one day, after painting myself to sleep, I woke up at awe, asking myself: “Did I paint that?” It was a portrait of Abraham Lincoln. That painting gave me the confidence I needed to cultivate that craft which I continue to do in every painting.

I’ve seen your work include everything from rainbow zebras, watermelon, and birds, to Ray Charles, Elton John, and Jim Morrison. It appears you’re inspired by a lot of different subject matter, and you just follow your instincts. Is this correct? Walk us through your inspirations. Great question. I see freedom in art. I believe creativity to be limitless. Making art is both an act of the intellect but also of the spirit, and neither of those are to be conditioned. In a lifetime of painting, I have been attracted to different things, and I like working with what I’m feeling at the moment, whether it is music, books, or nature. If I want to paint portraits of my favorite painters, for example, I add to the intent things that will stimulate the creative process. When I painted the collection Art Masters, which included painters like Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, and Michael Angelo, I added to the project, as a motivating catalyst, the idea of bringing the collection to public schools and libraries, so kids would be inspired to know more about the painters, and perhaps be inspired to give painting a try. It worked! The collection ended up touring many public schools and libraries in Denver and nearby cities. I did the same with Literary Giants and with Tatanka: The Spirit of the Land, a visual story about the American Buffalo.

What’s something about the art industry that most people don’t know? The art industry is ambiguous. It can be as abstract as art itself. I can speak both as an artist and as gallery owner. It is hard. However, I feel lucky to live in this city, where there is a genuine appreciation for art and many support it with sensibility. It is thanks to that consciousness that some of us can continue to create and sometimes make a career from it. But there are many elements involved. Sometimes people ask me how long it takes me to make a painting. When I say six hours, for example, I can tell they try to equate time with cost, and it doesn’t really work that way as the truth behind the answer is that it takes a lifetime of painting to get to create a painting in six hours. Gal lery owners deal with similar things. The cost of a painting at a gallery sometimes does not come close to the real cost when you add up gallery rent, hours of work tending the show spaces, publicity costs, and, on top of that, the actual time it can take for a painting to sell off the wall. So, a commission of 35 percent to 50 percent although it seems high, it really isn’t sometimes enough to cover all the overhead behind when you consider the time it can take to sell.

You work with Katie Friedland at Show of Hands in Cherry Creek. Talk about that partnership, and your impression of the art scene in Cherry Creek. I love Cherry Creek. It is unique and authentic in its own right. I met Katie about 10 years ago and have had my art at her store for that long, through three different store locations. She is one of the hardest-working women I have ever met. She is a fighter, and I respect that so much about her. Many don’t know this, but in her unique way, she is a social activist, always striving to improve the world and the people in it through voicing out what’s right, making her place available for dozens of artists to have an outlet for their work and supporting small businesses. She is a hub for many artists and artisans as well as an inspiration of hard work.

Most unforgettable moment as an artist? Any time kids are involved whether at a school setting or at the workshops that I offer for free at my studio, art becomes meaningful, almost vital. We live at ridiculous fast paces and don’t give time its real value. Kids are a good reminder of the power of the present moment. When I see them at awe with one of my paintings, or wanting to know more about making art, the vocation suddenly takes on a new meaning. Kids are always a learning source for me. They show me the value of art in ways we, who do this for a living, tend to forget.

escape to four seasons vail

Always a favorite amongst locals and visitors alike, the world-renowned Four Seasons Resort Vail has been elevated to enviable new heights this winter, with reimagined spaces and transformative new programming. Following a complete redesign of the spa and the addition of several new specialty suites, the property also unveiled two highly anticipated offerings just in time for ski season. The Chalet, a fully renovated guest-only ski lounge and concierge experience, and Tavernetta Vail, a new flagship restaurant created in partnership with the James Beard Foundation Award-winning and Michelin Star-awarded Frasca Hospitality Group.

THE SUITES

New to the property this season are The Specialty Suites, designed by Liubasha Rose, Creative Director of Rose Ink Workshop. Each of the expansive suites reflects her profound inspiration drawn from the natural beauty of Vail’s landscape. Rose explains, “The design elements of this project are deeply inspired by the exquisite beauty of the Vail landscape. Velvety curtain fabrics in slate and rosy-tan echo the soft, undulating hills, bringing a touch of the outdoors into every room. Our cool, soft grey, hand-washed plaster walls are gently textured, feeling as though they’ve been painted with pigments directly from the earth and enhancing the guests’ connection to nature. Textured dark and light wood and sophisticated, detailed finishes to lounge seating and chairs combine to create a cozy, comfortable, and luxurious environment—a space that wraps you in a warm, comforting embrace after a day of exploring the wonders of Vail Mountain.”

THE SPA

Fresh off a complete renovation, the Spa at Four Seasons has been reimagined with a fresh space by

the renowned Rose Ink Workshop. This state-of-the-art transformation encompasses 13 enhanced treatment rooms, modernized lounges and dressing rooms, rejuvenated hot tub, sauna, steam room and relaxation spaces, all designed to elevate the guest experience to new heights.

To coincide with the renovation, the spa has reimagined its complete experience by introducing a comprehensive wellness program centered around the core pillars of Rest, Recovery, Sleep, Slowing Down and Meditation. This innovative approach to wellness offers extended services that prioritize results-driven rituals in collaboration with international partners including several carefully curated skin and body care collections, all of which share the brand’s ethos and wellness-forward philosophy.

“We are thrilled to unveil our newly redesigned spa, a project that epitomizes our commitment to de livering exceptional and transformative wellness experiences to our guests and homeowners,” says Jerome Arribas, General Manager of Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail. “Combining Rose Ink Workshop’s creative design vision with esteemed brands that are pioneering the spa industry allows our expert therapists to offer a unique, holistic, and unparalleled approach to wellness, especially important in our active resort town.”

Four Seasons Resort Vail is the first property within the Four Seasons family to feature EviDenS, a prestigious skincare line renowned for its effective, luxurious products. In addition, the spa has partnered with Ground Wellbeing, a collection of 100% vegan, natural, products that nourish the body and soul using ritualized self-care, as well as Comfort Zone, which brings a beautiful connection to Italy with its conscious, science-based approach to skincare. A new retail partner, Back Label, is an exquisite wellness-wear brand from Italy that uses non-toxic, next generation fabrics and employs a slow fashion mindset. The inclusion of Therabody’s cutting-edge recovery tools ensures that guests have access to the ultimate in relaxation and recovery.

Throughout the spa, guests will find a tranquil design that combines natural elements with rich textures inspired by the Rocky Mountains. The treatment rooms are a haven of comfort and elegance, designed to enhance the therapeutic experience. The revamped locker rooms and shower areas offer a modern, luxurious feel, while the hot tub and relaxation areas provide the perfect setting for unwinding before or after treatments. Artworks were exclusively created for the space with local and foraged flowers. Drawing inspiration from botanical textures and colors found in the local forestry, Venezuelan artist Vanessa Requena experimented with a wide variety of mediums including cyanotypes, watercolors, and acrylics to evoke the richness of life found in nature.

In terms of services and treatments, guests can now indulge in an unparalleled spa journey that combines cutting-edge wellness practices with the tranquil beauty of the Vail Valley landscape. The new spa is a testament to the resort’s commitment to providing exceptional, transformative experiences that cater to the needs of today’s wellness-conscious travelers. Signature treatments include The Signature Extreme 360° Beauty Ceremony, in partnership with EviDenS, Revitalizing Mineral Mud Wrap, in partnership with Comfort Zone, and The Sleep Ritual, created with GROUND Wellbeing products, which guides the mind and body into deep slumber with flowing massage techniques and mindful breathwork.

THE CHALET

Nestled in the heart of Vail Village, The Chalet offers an unparalleled guest-only lounge, combining ski-in, ski-out convenience with sophisticated, alpine-inspired elegance. Designed by Studio Collective, The Chalet reflects the luxurious comfort that defines Four Seasons Vail. Guests can enjoy modern locker rooms, the latest ski equipment, and a private lounge with sweeping views of Vail Village and the surrounding mountains. High ceilings, warm finishes, and plush seating create a welcoming atmosphere, ideal for unwinding by the fireplace after a day on the mountain. “The Chalet sets a new standard for your skiing experience and is also an invitation to pause and fully immerse yourself in our sophisticated lounge,” says Jerome Arribas, General Manager at Four Seasons Vail.

winter 2024/2025

BABY, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE

Ahh yes. Cold weather means warm plates of deliciousness and yum. Savory. Hearty. Comforting. Flavor Country. ‘Tis the season for our Winter Dining Guide where some of the best chefs and kitchen crews around share what’s happening on their menus and what to look forward to upon your next dining visit with them.

NARRATIVE

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW OFFERINGS THIS SEASON...

CLAYTON HOTEL & MEMBERS CLUB F&B Operations Manager Mike Bigel & Executive Chef John Kramer Bigel: Our Parlour Bar is a new concept, so the entire menu is seasonally focused on fall. The Dip-Trio which features a deconstructed Bruschetta, Olive Tapenade and Pimento, brings a fun and contemporary play on classic plated stylings..

Chef: I’m very excited about our melt-in-your-mouth Smokey Rueben, using a house-made Lamb Pastrami as opposed to the standard beef brisket.

HAPA SUSHI CHERRY CREEK Chef de Cuisine Scott Nakasone We’re thrilled to introduce our new menu! After receiving numerous requests for ramen over the past year, we’ve added three different options: Tonkotsu, Shoyu, and Vegetable Ramen. Plus, we’re excited to include Inari bombs - a super popular dish from Hawaii. I also would not skip out on the Bone Marrow or Truffle Maguro Sashimi.

NARRATIVE AT THE JACQUARD Executive Chef Charles Albright Moving into the winter, we are looking at some really fun dishes and a few that I am very excited about are 1) Bison Ragout that has winter notes and will be served with rigatoni, finished with fresh grated pecorino; 2) Prince Edward Island Mussels with a delicious white wine kale compound butter that turns the sauce into a beautiful bright green that is packed with bursting flavors of shallots, garlic, and Fresno chiles; and 3) Roasted Butternut squash soup, za’atar spiced compote, creamy and full of flavor… perfect for a snowy day.

KUMOYA Executive Chef Corey Baker: Along with our daily catch of fish and omakase offerings, we have added a handful of new dishes such as Duck Ramen, Cauliflower Chawanmushi and Sakana Shioyaki.

LOCAL JONES Director of Food & Beverage Todd Oyadomari : I’m a big fan of our new Grain Bowl, which includes salmon, delicata, hazelnut, farro and wheat berry, and Fresno vin.

WHAT ARE YOU TAKING AWAY FROM 2024? WHAT ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS?

CLAYTON HOTEL & MEMBERS CLUB Mike (Parlour): My biggest takeaway from 2024 is the launch of the Parlour Bar concept. It encompassed months of development, testing and research. Creating new ideas is what brings out the imaginativeness of our team. It feels less like work, and more akin to a hobby.

HAPA SUSHI CHERRY CREEK My takeaway from 2024, is what an incredible team we have at Hapa. Whenever we reinvent our menu, we invite all of our chefs to contribute and, this past year, they truly exceeded expectations. Everyone was very creative and put hard work into the process.

NARRATIVE AT THE JACQUARD From 2024, we noticed that our guests have really taken a liking to our seafood offerings on the menu. We’re proud to work with a very reputable supplier providing the highest quality fish in the market. The trust our guests have placed in us by choosing our fresh seafood reflects the high standards we hold ourselves to and that we strive to enliven day in and day out.

LOCAL JONES: Hosting 40 guests for a tasting dinner with High West Bourbon. We served four courses paired with their bourbons, and finished the meal off with a fantastic apple gateau from our pastry chef, Saura Kline.

KUMOYA: 2024 was a big year for Kumoya stepping into the Denver restaurant scene and guiding our guests towards elevated experiences with Japanese cuisine. As a city, there have been too many restaurant closings and struggles with operating local businesses. We are hopeful that our neighborhood and community will continue to support and grace us with their presence as we strive to maintain a family of service forward professionals.

WHAT DOES A NEW YEAR MEAN FOR YOU AND YOUR STAFF?

IS IT A RESET AND REINVENTION TO PREPARE FOR ANOTHER

YEAR?

IS IT BUSINESS AS USUAL? OR IS IT SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY?

CLAYTON HOTEL & MEMBERS CLUB At Clayton we aim to create fresh and elevated renditions of timeless food and beverage classics, and 2025 will be more of the same in accomplishing that and reaching those standards.

HAPA SUSHI CHERRY CREEK This fall has felt like a fresh start with the launch of our new menu. We’re excited to celebrate together in the coming year. Our annual staff party at the beginning of February is a wonderful chance to show our gratitude to everyone at Hapa and Motomaki while enjoying time together as a restaurant group.

NARRATIVE AT THE JACQUARD We look forward to the new year as a true reset and reinvention. I’m proud to be a part of a new leadership team bringing us into 2025, with re-enlivened vision to focus on achieving excellence and providing a world class experience hotel-wide. Utilizing our back-to-basics approach to hospitality by providing a warm welcome, anticipating our guests needs, and expressing a fond farewell will demonstrate how putting our guests first is our highest priority. Coming to our friendly neighborhood restaurant is about the experience in food, genuine service, and welcoming atmosphere and the new year gives us the opportunity to truly hone in on this.

LOCAL JONES: The new year means new challenges and definitely a reset for the team. We’re striving for continued growth for dinners at Local Jones dinner and continued growth for our food and beverage program.

KUMOYA: The new year brings new goals and shifts in energy. Our staff at Kumoya will continue to evolve with our community and grow with our guests every day. We cannot be at our best without every guest helping us grow and support our craft.

CLAYTON HOTEL & MEMBERS CLUB Starting off, I’d suggest our winter Sangria paired with the Beet Salad and Ahi Tuna Crudo, which all open your palate for the rest of the meal. For your main, either our Shrimp Scampi Pizza or Grilled Chicken, which is served atop a crispy Risotto cake. The meal has to be finished with our seasonal cheesecake, made in-house by Pastry Chef Mackenzie. It’s fun to see the creativity of our team expressed through these dishes.

HAPA SUSHI CHERRY CREEK Spicy miso soup, Hapa Wings, 24 Karat Roll, Black Salt Tombo Sashimi, Black Cod, and Fried Ice Volcano. Spicy Miso soup is a must-have for me, and I’m thrilled we’ve added the Hapa Wings to the menu. They’re wrapped in rice paper and fried to perfection, making them super crispy. We used to have a Black Cod appetizer that customers still rave about, so we decided to introduce a Black Cod entrée, which has quickly become one of my favorites. We’ve also added a variety of new desserts, and the Fried Ice Cream Volcano is a perfect treat to share with friends!

NARRATIVE AT THE JACQUARD My favorite meal would start with our Tuna Poke.

Ahi Tuna tossed in Yuzu kosho vinaigrette, scallions. avocado, house ponzu, and homemade furikake rice crackers. For the entrée, our Beef Short Rib is truly a fall favorite, slow cooked overnight in veal stock, mire poix, red wine, and aromatics, served with creamy parsnip puree and roasted winter root vegetables. We’re excited to offer completely new desserts this season, highlighting a team favorite with the Basque Cheesecake infused with blueberries served with sherry caramel and Madagascar vanilla Chantilly.

LOCAL JONES: Buttermilk Rolls, Swedish meatballs, classic LJ Caesar and any of our weekly specials that include our Monday Pork Chop Schnitzel, Tuesday’s Fish Fry, Wednesday’s Smoked Pot Pie, Thursday’s Fried Chicken, Friday and Saturday’s Prime Rib and Sunday’s French Dip.

KUMOYA: A perfect lineup for a new guest to Kumoya would include Tsukemono, Wagyu Tartare, Chawanmushi, Mukozuke, six piece Nigiri Omakase, Nasu Misoyaki, Aka Miso and Sakura Tiramisu. Accompany these with cocktails, a bottle from our curated sake list or one or many of our extensive Japanese whiskies.

FROM BLASE TO BRILLIANT

NANCY HOLST REIMAGINES A CHERRY CREEK TOWNHOUSE INTO A MENAGERIE OF STYLE

PARTING WORDS OUR FINAL THOUGHTS AND WORDS OF INSPIRATION

In a market rich with realtors, Ann Kerr stands out from the pack.

And while her sales record speaks for itself, (Ann is recognized as one of Denver’s top producers and has been named to the Who’s Who of Luxury Real Estate) she’s anything but a salesperson, believing instead in the power of relationships. “I’m not very good at ‘selling’ per se – my view on brokerage is that my role is to help my client make the best buying or selling decision relying on my expertise, which may or may not result in a sale in the short term,” the long time Cherry Hills Village resident reveals. “I’m in it for the long haul and as a friend and neighbor to many of my clients, I value these personal relationships.” Indeed, her more than twenty-year tenure in the industry reflects the type of staying power that can only be achieved through honesty, integrity and unrelenting authenticity.

What’s more, when you hire Ann, you get Ann. “I answer phone calls and emails directly. It’s extremely important to me that I take responsibility for knowing every detail of every transaction,” she attests. A notion that may seem simple, but in a thriving market such as Denver’s, one that is far too often not the case. “There are so many ‘experts’ in the media providing misleading information which cannot be universally applied across the board to every home sale,” she explains. “A broker who has experience in your area and has been selling real estate through many market cycles can give the best advice on selling your home to the right buyer for the right price.”

It’s this type of honesty and expertise that has made Ann not only a real estate leader, but a community leader as well. In fact, she has served on countless boards and committees including the Cherry Hills Village Planning and Zoning Commission, The John Lynch Foundation, University of Oklahoma Alumni Association, Swim Across America, the Cherry Hills Village Elementary School Accountability Committee, the Colorado Lacrosse Foundation, US Lacrosse and the University of Denver Lacrosse, and the Denver Ballet Guild.

I’m in it for the long haul and as a friend and neighbor to many of my clients, I value these personal relationships.

Ann most definitely walks the walk, enlisting a wide variety of tools and programs for both buyers and sellers. “No two clients and no two homes are alike. I like to approach each listing from a fresh perspective, engaging my wide network of contacts and a wide variety of strategies – whether it’s a wine tasting event at a new listing or an article in a local publication – to sell a home.” This creativity, coupled with tried-and-true knowledge and a stellar reputation, serves her clients extremely well.

“To be successful in any kind of real estate market, you must start with the needs of your clients, always be committed to those needs and utilize your experience to the maximum,” she finishes.

from the editor

There’s nothing better than a quiet evening at home. Comfortable, in your element and with those you love. To me, a night in is the ultimate night out. After all, home isn’t simply a structure; it’s also a state of mind. A feeling that comes from being surrounded by the notions that speak to you – that represent your style and reflect the memories that make you whole. In this, our first ever edition of Cherry Creek Home, we celebrate the very heart of design.

The talent that exists within the small footprint of Cherry Creek most certainly belies its size. Take, for example, the jaw dropping home of world-renowned interior designer Donna Mondi ( Modern Style, Global Influence, Page 76). It’s a lesson in contemporary design - one where Mondi’s own home became the canvas for a thoughtful collection of chic curiosities, lush textiles, and modern architecture.

Likewise, designer Nancy Holst uses a similar juxtaposition of modernist architecture and centuries-old antiques in her Cherry Creek North project (page 84). We were captivated by the designer’s uncanny ability to use bold art and statement making antiques as the difference maker between blasé and brilliant.

We also tap into the latest design trends, using fashion as our inspiration. Check out If This Dress Were a Room (page 75) where we interpret runway looks into envy-inducing interiors. It’s a playful approach to design, and one that reflects our neighborhood’s fashion-forward ethos.

We hope you’ll enjoy this sneak peek of Cherry Creek Home, and that you’ll follow along as we grow the title into a robust brand reflective of the inimitable design prowess that defines Cherry Creek. A neighborhood whose artistic sensibilities indeed belie its size.

Yours truly,

For me, home is anywhere I can be with my boys and my husband.

Popular in the 1920s Art Deco era, burl wood gained momentum throughout the Hollywood Regency age before reaching its peak in the 1970s. Now, we’re seeing a resurgence of interest in burl wood furniture and décor with people seeking its unique character to give their spaces a refined pop of personality. From vanities and bath accessories to side tables, mirrors, and even lamps, burl wood is having a design moment.

Design of the times

01: Rounded Furniture Forms Furnishings featuring gentle curves and rounded forms are having a serious design moment. Circular coffee and dining tables with cylindrical legs, bulbous sofas and accent chairs, and oblong mirrors are showing up everywhere. The trend stems from a growing interest in organic modern style. It incorporates natural, organic materials, colors and shapes in a modern way. Rounded and curved furniture has dominated at recent trade shows, including High Point Market and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair.

02: Range Alcoves Kitchen range alcoves are appearing in countless new photos uploaded to Houzz. They’re an extension of the aforementioned English-style influence on kitchens. For a range alcove, the range is set within a recessed alcove or niche area, sometimes arched, and often flanked by countertops and side walls. This feature adds a substantial architectural element to a kitchen, creating a focal point and allowing for a natural stopping point for, and containment of, a striking backsplash design.

03: Arches Arches, another extension of organic modern style, are showing up frequently online. Arches add a touch of playfulness and help soften harsh angles to generate a welcoming, cozy feel. Design and remodeling pros are incorporating arches throughout the home for doorways, windows, niches, cabinets and millwork details. Expect to see more elaborately arched mirrors in 2025, as well as headboards with ogee or trefoil profiles and chairs with similarly scalloped silhouettes.

04: Woven and Mesh Cabinet Fronts Woven and mesh details add texture and visual interest. We’re seeing it frequently used to help break up expanses of cabinets, especially in kitchens. Natural woven materials also soften hard edges and provide a warm counterpoint to cold surfaces, two effective strategies for creating a cozy and welcoming space. Woven textures are also showing up on bathroom vanities, as well as on furniture and window treatments.

05: Layers of Color, Pattern and Texture Designers are getting requests from homeowners for a more-is-more approach that layers bold color, pattern and texture. Whether you call it maximalism or “cluttercore,” this design approach celebrates abundance and allows homeowners to furnish their homes with pieces that reflect their personalities. Think grooved wall and ceiling paneling in a bold color, woven materials and patterned everything — drapery, furniture, rugs and pillows.

It’s a new year and, along with it, comes a new set of design trend predictions. Texture, color, curated spaces and plenty of curves top the list for 2025, according to home renovation and design platform, Houzz. We’re sharing our top five below... 01 02 03 04 05

KTHOM GALERIE makes its debut

FROM the mind of designer Kristen Thomas , Studio Thomas in Greenwood Village has unveiled a new extension of home and space with KTHOM Galerie. From her years spent designing for clients, it was impressed upon Thomas the difference between meaningful spaces and places that we just exist in, collecting and accumulating, tailor-made and mass-produced. From there, she and the Studio Thomas team started identifying what was missing in the marketplace including what they wished they could see as well as what seemed so hard to find. KTHOM is a lifestyle label offering custom furniture, reimagined antiques, objects, and textiles with lighting, apparel, and accessories in development. It is design for someone’s whole lifestyle and how they dream of living. You’ll find the Latin word colligere throughout KTHOM which simply means “to gather,” because design is about bringing people together and helping them live well.

home, sweet HW HOME

HW Home is excited to announce the relocation of its Cherry Creek store back to its original neighborhood, Cherry Creek North, at 239 Detroit Street, Denver, CO 80206—formerly home to Garbarini. This move, set for January 2025, marks a return to the vibrant district the Colorado-based brand called home for over 20 years.

“Cherry Creek North is where HW Home truly defined its reputation as Colorado’s premier furniture retailer,” says Ron Werner, President of HW Home. “It has always been more than a location for us; it’s where we built our brand and connected with our community. While our time at the Cherry Creek Shopping Center allowed us to continue serving our customers, it was always a temporary solution. We are thrilled to return to the heart of this unique neighborhood.”

The decision to relocate comes amidst significant redevelopment in Cherry Creek North, which has increased real estate taxes and rental costs, pushing many local businesses out. HW Home faced similar challenges as chain retailers moved into some locations, making this return an opportunity to reconnect with our roots and community.

“The redevelopment of Cherry Creek North has brought new challenges for local businesses,” explains Jim Hering, Vice President of HW Home. “Our move is not just about a physical location; it’s about preserving the spirit of our brand in a space that resonates with our values and our loyal customers. We’re excited to bring HW Home’s unique approach to furniture and design back to this beloved neighborhood.”

showroom NATUZZI ITALIA

World-renowned furniture brand, Natuzzi Italia, has descended into Cherry Creek North with its first Colorado location and, with it, comes an incomparable source for the highest quality of home design, furniture and accessories. Chief Brand and Creative Officer PJ Natuzzi, the 34-year-old dynamo son of founder Pasquale Natuzzi, hosted us for coffee in their gorgeous new showroom for a revealing conversation about all things living.

You’ve been at this for 14 years…learning everything you can in understanding the ins and outs of this business, and now you’re a major decision maker for a global brand and a publicly traded company on Wall Street.

It wasn’t easy and it still isn’t easy. I naturally embraced this. When I was four or five-years-old, I wanted to be the president of Natuzzi. I’ve spent my whole life in this company and being around my father during meetings with customers from all over the world. The biggest element in my DNA is passion for this. My blood, my life and Natuzzi are all intertwined. I have always had eye for marketing. I control retail, merchandising, marketing, and all levels of expression for the brand. I try to be dynamic in this era and my father’s version of today. I don’t put money and interests first. I have too much connection and respect for this. I convinced the company to invest in an in-house agency that we’ve grown from four people to 42 people because I don’t think there’s the same love and passion for Natuzzi working with outside agencies. This led to our campaign as a lifestyle inspired by the Mediterranean and the region in the small town of southern Italy that I grew up in.

What’s your favorite room in the house?

I have a speakeasy room in my house in Milan that I really enjoy, but my favorite rooms are the kitchen and the living room. I like to bring people together through cooking or communing on a sofa. I like informal settings to sit and move around. I love to fill spaces and let the space live through a big piece of furniture, a stool, an ottoman, and a bean bag.

You’re constantly on the move with never-ending business travel. You mentioned you average 120 flights a year. How do you relax?

I don’t relax. I stay alive by working. I like stress when it’s healthy and when it’s driven by a strong sense of ownership, commitment, and responsibility. I like the hustle and even a bit of drama as long as it makes sense for the ultimate and final goal. The bigger the project and challenge and stress, the more motivated I become. The only time I relax is maybe when I’m at Burning Man. I am a burner. It’s not the burn you want, but the burn you deserve.

When someone walks in here, what do you hope they experience?

We want to provide harmony in people’s homes. We’re not eclectic. We tend to create visuals that relax your eyes – a quiet luxury. The materials. The colors. The shapes. The lines. The shades. I want our guests to experience all of this.

meet the maker BRETT OWENS, LIGHT PROVISIONS

The 100-year-old Victorian on Boulder Street smelled awful. Six roommates and lousy airflow will do that. So much so that Brett Owens ventured out into his Colorado Springs neighborhood on a mission for candles. What would ensue would change Owens’ life forever. The harsh discovery in his search for better smelling times was that the candle market produced a lot of underwhelming options, so, on a whim, he decided to try and make his own mark in the industry with what would end up being known as Light Provisions. It was a perfect storm for Owens in making the leap, “I feel like I’ve always been sensitive to bad lighting, bad smells, and wanting to create spaces that are warm, inviting, and cozy.”It began as a hobby while he worked in a coffee shop. “When I started in 2015,

there weren’t a lot of YouTube or Instagram-type videos about candles, so I was reading forums that people wrote from 20 years ago. I was hoping all the products and materials were the same,” Owens says with a chuckle.

Enter “trial and error.” Brett had created his “annoying” spreadsheets that detailed what worked and what didn’t work. For instance, how much fragrance oil is needed? What temperature is appropriate? What type of wick should be used? The project began in the kitchen of said stinky house before moving to a studio in an artists’ co-op space, followed by the basement in a new home with his wife, Dana.

By 2016, Owens had officially left coffee for candles.

Which meant overseeing the creation and execution of his brand as well as the eventual marketing and sales side of things. But how do you even approach something as paramount in importance like the scents you’re planning to showcase?

“I find scents like sandalwood, juniper or sweet grass and I look for a way to make them more of my own rendition with my own oils. It makes it harder for others to replicate,” Owens explains.

What people outside the industry probably don’t realize is that you can find a supplier and buy their oil that already contains a dozen or so fragrances within that oil. Owens points out that a lot of those candles are made to start into one candle.

Brett doesn’t play that way.

He channels his inner scientist with his own original blends, beginning with a wood base like his Campfire candle that consists of cedarwood, elderflower and driftwood. Then he conceives a way to complement that with something lighter, sweeter and herbal in nature, all the while inventing something that lasts and is popular among all audiences.

And speaking of audiences, this might be Owens’ favorite element to the entire project. He has a great appreciation for the history of candles and those who enjoy them. “Candles date back thousands of years to the Egyptians, Christians, Muslims and Jewish faith. They used them for light, but they also used them for ceremonial practices. The same holds true today with people using candles to create a warm space, or for meditation, or as a ritual to start their work day.”

I find scents like sandalwood, juniper or sweet grass and I look for a way to make them more of my own rendition with my own oils. It makes it harder for others to replicate.”

When asked how Light Provisions is different from the overcrowded market of candles, he references his custom and unique blends that are rooted in earthy scents and cocktail inspirations. And then there’s the actual glassware, which is intended to have a second life as a cocktail glass. “It’s crystal, bespoke and handmade,” Owens begins. “It’s intended to outlast the candle which is unique. I worked closely with the factory and wanted something with lines and ridges where light travels through it nicely and it has good texture when holding it. I love antiques and vintage things and this glassware is timeless with a Prohibition Era feel to it. I’d rather have people save the glass and reuse it, which is best for the environment as well.”

As of today, Light Provisions offers 12 scents –eight of which are part of his flagship collection that are available year-round, with fragrances like Sweetgrass & Juniper, Elderflower & Driftwood, and Tobacco & Walnut. Eleven Colorado retailers carry his brand, while he also has partnerships in New Jersey, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.

Regardless of the scent you choose, Brett Owens will help you see the light (literally and figuratively) whether it’s for a romantic evening at home, a dimly lit hallway, or for a favorite bath escape. And if, by chance, you have an old Victorian home with poor ventilation and six roommates, then you’ve come to the right place.

From the runway to your living room, we translate fashion’s most envy-inducing looks into eye-catching décor.

A DESIGNER’S OWN CHERRY CREEK HOME

DEFINES

THE ART OF ELEVATED MODERN LIVING

DESIGN BY DONNA MONDI INTERIOR DESIGN

PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAVID PATTERSON

Originally based in Chicago, interior designer Donna Mondi, her husband Dominick and their French Bulldog, Blanche, sought a space closer to her adult children amidst the pandemic. When her search for a temporary home in Denver proved fruitless, she discovered this residence by BOSS Architecture. Its architecture resonated with her, and she eagerly embarked on completing its narrative. With her signature approach, Donna introduced custom details that breathed individ uality into the home, turning it from a polished shell into an intimat e haven.

“Because the home was built on spec, it lacked the unique details that I strive for in all of my designs,” Mondi explains. “It is the interior that transformed this space into a sanctuary for us. The residence now features bespoke furniture and curated artwork, each piece thoughtfully sourced to harmonize with the home’s architecture.” One of Donna’s signature approaches is to infuse interiors with sumptuous textures such as mohair, suede, leather, velvet, and cashmere. Additionally, she is renowned for her ability to blend modern furnishings with vintage treasures and striking artwork, resulting in a distinctive and layered aesthetic. All of these hallmarks of Mondi’s design ethos are personified throughout the expansive abode.

Nestled in an exclusive enclave of modernist residences, this Cherry Creek home captures the essence of contemporary living, balancing Bauhaus-inspired simplicity with a seamless connection to nature. Built initially as a spec home, the structure offered a strong architectural foundation, with Italian brick and Accoya wood blending effortlessly to define its exterior.

“A designer’s own home is often a playground to explore new iterations and find unique one-of-a-kind vintage items to fill it. For me, this space was no exception,” she reveals. “The goal was to elevate the interiors throughout, blending existing finishes with bespoke additions.”

Inside, Donna used several pieces from her collaboration with Material Bespoke Stone + Tile as well as her own private label collection. For the primary bedroom, a custom bed wall was designed to incorporate Accoya wood with upholstered panels and floating vanities. On the lower level, a missing link between the bar and wine cellar was filled with a banquette, cafe table, and walls were adorned with a textural wallcovering of bamboo and capiz shells. Throughout the residence, bespoke furniture sourced from around the globe combined with captivating artwork transforms it into a unique home.

“The primary objective of this project was to transform the interiors with unexpected and distinctive furnishings that not only elevate the aesthetic but also ensure comfort and durability,” the designer adds. Designed with an inward focus, the home features a central courtyard and a façade that is largely concealed from street view, providing an oasis of privacy.

In stark contrast, the layout is ideal for entertaining, boasting a spacious open floor plan and a moving glass wall that seamlessly connects the interior to the exterior. The courtyard serves as an enchanting space for outdoor gatherings. “I wanted to create areas that maximize opportunities for hosting both intimate gatherings and grand celebrations, making it the heart of family events and cherished moments,” Mondi shares.

“A designer’s own home is often a playground to explore new iterations and find unique one-ofa-kind vintage items to fill it.”

The primary bedroom went through the biggest transformation with the addition of the custom bed wall. The intentional connection to the existing architecture makes it seem as if it were there from the start. It also serves to be functional with accent lighting, task lighting, and outlets where you need them. The subtly concaved upholstered panels in suede make the bed wall comfortable and inviting. Finishing touches of curated artwork, a dreamy cashmere rug, and textural bedding completes the space. What can’t you see? A Hästens horsehair mattress that Mondi and her husband, Dominick, swear will change your life.

For Mondi, the lower-level family room presented the biggest challenge. As in most homes, the budget was spent on the main floor, leaving the lower level an almost blank slate. The main room had a simple bar cabinet on one end and a wine cellar on the other, leaving an awkward void between the two. The solution was to connect them through an upholstered banquette and statement wall coverings. The simple cabinetry is elevated with steel shelving above which makes it feel more complete.

The journey of this home paralleled a life transition for Donna and Dominick. What began as a temporary retreat evolved into their primary residence, and Denver quickly became the heart of their growing family and business. Now, with a second French Bulldog in tow, Donna splits her time between her Chicago and Denver offices, overseeing projects nationwide—a testament to life’s serendipitous paths.

WWhen Nancy Holst of Denver-based Holst Interiors was given three months to breathe life into a Cherry Creek townhome, she knew the job would be no small task. The residence, while indeed upscale, was also unoriginal. “The client purchased the home as an investment property. Our goal was to add value to key areas, increasing its overall marketability,” the designer explains.

To do so, Holst would rely on her keen ability to seamlessly pair centuries-old antiques with contemporary pieces and bold accents for a style that’s both distinctive and distinguished. “We began by painting the entire house and carpeting the bedrooms,” Holst begins. “This began to warm up the otherwise stark space and gave us a starting point. From there, we began making custom runners and rugs, wallpapering the bathrooms, upgrading the decorative lighting, and rigorously selecting furniture and fabrics that were creative, exclusive and visually memorable,” she finishes.

Ever mindful of their short timeline, Holst and her team worked rapidly to source, deliver and install, all while creating an eclectic yet elegant look that typically takes years to achieve. The designer wove a thoughtful continuity from one room to the next, curating a library of textiles, textures and original art that feels both complementary and collected. “We transformed a standard, non-descript Cherry Creek condo into a collection of unique and significant patterns, textures, and materials,” she affirms.

Using the home’s architecture and natural elements as a guide, Holst and her crew took an intuitive approach to the home’s design. Case in point? The living room chandelier. Using the space’s grand, 22-foot windows as her inspiration, the designer sourced a one-of-a-kind, custom tiered, hand-blown glass chandelier to hang in its center. “The chandelier brings movement, light and shadow to the room, creating a statement from the exterior yard as a lighting feature and a work of art,” Holst details.

Throughout the home, the designer selected classic elements, mixing them with bright accessories that evoked a chic yet enduring sense of style. Traditional antiques gave a tremendous amount of character and dimension to the contemporary interiors, including a hand-rubbed black stained table that sits beneath the striking living room chandelier.

Fabrics and wallcoverings were thoughtfully chosen, with Holst sourcing wares from only the most esteemed textile houses. In the main level powder room, the designer used a vibrant print from Cole & Sons – an 18th century block printer, and the son of a Cambridgeshire merchant. The paper evokes a capricious sense of whimsy, while also giving the space substance.

A similar approach was taken in the dining room, where Holst used Verel De Belval Metaphore silk fabrics from France - a division of Hermes’ textile division – for the Dining room chair fabric. “Throughout the house, we selected classic elements that had flair, as subtle and complimentary fine textiles and furniture that support our traditional antiques and contemporary interiors,” Holst explains. Additionally, the designer incorporated numerous fabrics from British line GP and J Baker (holder of the Royal Warrant since 1982) for pillows and trims, as well as Micheal Berman and Larry Laslo furniture in the living room and dining room.

We transformed a standard, non-descript Cherry Creek condo into a collection of unique and significant patterns, textures and materials.”
-Nancy Holst, Designer

Ultimately, the team created a home where thoughtful touches and high-design elements blend together harmoniously. It’s a look that is authentic – one layered with rich details and remarkable art. A look that is as timeless as it is on-trend.

“By using high quality furnishings and appointments, we were able to tell a story and give this home a soul,” Holst says, proudly. “ There is no real substitution for quality and authenticity and this space proves that thoughtfully selected pieces and artisan-made furnishings will infuse life into an otherwise two-dimensional space.

parting WORDS

May you never be afraid to be bold and bright.

May you surround yourself with beauty, both inside and out.

May you always choose form over function.

May you find inspiration in the most unexpected of places. And may you learn the rules, if only to know when to break them.
