RENAULT 2016 DRIVE THE CHANGE RENAULT'S NEW STRATEGIC PLAN
Renault 2016 - Drive the Change is founded on Renault's ambition to make sustainable mobility accessible to all, expressed in the brand baseline “Drive the change”.
The Renault Group's strategic plan covers a six-year period with a mid-term review at the end of 2013. This will allow us to build a long-term strategic outlook to ensure continuity in operations and to establish quantified and precise priorities for the three years to come.
Renault 2016 - Drive the Change has been built to meet two objectives grow Group sales, generate free cash flow on a lasting basis, with the following aims for 2011-2013: sell more than three million vehicles in 2013, generate at least €2 billion in aggregate free cash flow.
Throughout the six years of the plan, the Group will work on seven key levers to meet these objectives:
04 / 05
3. Reinforce the image of the Renault brand The Renault brand needs to become stronger, combining convincing design with standardized services and clear positioning. To achieve this, it will be building on three cornerstones: innovation for all: Renault's aim is to build cars tailored to customer requirements, with useful and affordable technologies; quality: the efforts made since 2005 are bringing results. Today, all multi-brand surveys place Renault among the best for quality and reliability, sometimes ahead of specialist carmakers. The next step is to align Renault's reputation for quality with the real quality of our cars by 2013.
design: the DeZir concept car unveiled at the Paris Motor Show heralds a new direction in Renault design. This new design identity will be applied across the Renault range. The new phase of Twingo in 2011 and new Clio launched in 2012 will be the first illustrations.
4. Ensure the excellence of the distribution network in customer relations The distribution network is the main point of contact between the brand and the customer. This is why strengthening the Renault brand also involves achieving excellence in customer relations. From 2011, Renault will be rolling out eight commitments across the network, to build strong, lasting relations with customers, based on trust. After-sales and sales financing through RCI Banque will also contribute to building the loyalty of existing customers and attracting new ones.
5. Control investment and R&D expenditure The plan aims to maintain investment and R&D spend below 9% of revenue while increasing the Group's geographical coverage and pursuing its innovation policy. Expenditure will be managed by using platforms shared with our partners (Nissan or Daimler) and by standardizing parts through modular design.
6. Reduce costs
1. Pursue the innovation policy
Renault is seeking to reduce the total cost of its vehicles, targeting a 12% cut in direct costs by 2013, and also to optimize industrial capacity.
To address global energy and environmental challenges and once more make the car a symbol of modern life, Renault has to innovate. Mass-marketing electric vehicles and improving the efficiency of combustion engines will significantly reduce CO2 emissions. Renault's European range is expected to cut emissions from an average 137 g/km today to less than 120g in 2013, and less than 100g in 2016 taking account of electric vehicles.
7. Maintain positions in Europe and pursue growth internationally
2. Strengthen the product offer Between 2011 and 2012, Renault plans to launch four electric vehicles. Other models will be added to the zero-emission line-up between 2014 and 2016. By 2016, the Renault-Nissan Alliance expects to have 1.5 million electric vehicles on the road worldwide, with a production capacity of 500,000 vehicles/year.
The combustion-powered range will be expanded and fully renewed between 2011 and 2016: in 2016, the Renault Group will have a portfolio of 48 models, compared with 40 in 2010 and 30 in 2005.
Renault is seeking to take advantage of the shift towards small vehicles and affordable technologies on the European market. With a range tailored to market requirements, it is aiming to maintain its position as Europe's No. 2 brand.
Internationally, Brazil, India and Russia are the three priority markets.

THE RENAULT NISSAN ALLIANCE The future of the car, be it electric or combustion-powered, will demand advanced technologies and extensive infrastructure. To secure the skills and resources to pursue its ambitions, Renault is placing the emphasis on long-term synergies and strategic partnerships. The Renault-Nissan Alliance has demonstrated the relevance of this strategy for more than ten years. Today, the Group is continuing in this direction.

A DEDICATED TEAM TO ACCELERATE SYNERGIES At the end of 2008, the automotive industry was severely hit by the economic crisis. After ten years in existence, it was time for the Alliance to move into high gear and accelerate synergies between Renault and Nissan. In May 2009, the Alliance set up a dedicated team, which works with Renault and Nissan staff on a day-to-day basis.
STRUCTURE The Renault-Nissan Alliance is a unique business model bringing together two global companies linked by cross-shareholdings and managed by the Alliance Board which consists of Executive Committees of each company. The Alliance is based on two autonomous companies with their own culture and brand identity, sharing a profitable growth strategy and linked by a community of interests.

The Alliance gives Renault and Nissan a unique competitive advantage in the automotive sector. It played a crucial role in the strategic choices made by the two companies during the global economic crisis of 2008/2009. Its long-term objective is to build synergies and react to opportunities more quickly, to the mutual benefit of both companies. The role of the Alliance team also includes quantifying the value of synergies. In 2009, synergies totaled €1.9 billion, exceeding the initial target of €1.5 billion. For 2010, the target is €2 billion, of which half from new synergies. The definitive results for 2010 will be published after Nissan announces its financial results for the year.

THE ALLIANCE IN 2010 The first plant dedicated to the Alliance was opened in Chennai (India) in March 2010. The first vehicle produced by the plant is the new Nissan Micra. The car will be sold in India and exported to more than 100 countries in Europe, the Middle-East and Africa. From 2011, the plant will build Renault Koleos and Fluence, both for the Indian market. The Chennai plant is the first to apply the Alliance Integrated Manufacturing System (AIMS) and the Alliance Production Way, a system that combines the best practices of Renault and Nissan while seeking to minimize costs. The line can manage four platforms and eight body styles in random production order. The Renault-Nissan Alliance is also working with Bajaj Auto Ltd on the development of an ultra low-cost vehicle that would be competitive on the Indian market. The Alliance is continuing to evolve: in April, it announced a strategic cooperation plan with Daimler. The plan covers a wide range of projects and makes provision for sharing good practices. These projects include joint studies by Renault and Daimler on the next generation of Renault Twingo and Smart Fortwo. This will include building electric versions and expanding both vehicle ranges. The agreement also covers the sharing of powertrains and the co-development of future projects in passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. The two groups also announced an equity exchange that gives the Renault-Nissan Alliance a 3.1% stake in Daimler and Daimler a 3.1% stake in both Renault and Nissan. In Russia, the objective of the Alliance is to increase market share from 33% to 40% by 2015, in partnership with AvtoVAZ. The Alliance has three plants in Russia, in Togliatti, Moscow and Saint Petersburg, for
a total production capacity of 1.3 million units between now and 2012. The Alliance Production Way will be deployed at the AvtoVAZ plant in Togliatti. ALR (Alliance Logistics Russia), the joint logistics organization in Russia, was set up to support the industrial challenges of Renault and Nissan in Russia. It manages logistics flows for Renault, Nissan and their Russian partner AvtoVAZ. It works with local suppliers to contribute to developing an efficient supply chain, and will also be responsible for vehicle distribution. It will work in particular with the existing logistics organization of AvtoVAZ to facilitate integration of the Alliance Production Way at the Togliatti plant.
ALLIANCE SALES The Renault-Nissan Alliance had a record year in 2010, with 7,276,398 vehicles sold, an increase of 19.6% on 2009. Renault and Nissan sold 2,625,796 and 4,080,588(2) vehicles respectively. Lada sold 570,014 vehicles, a rise of 37.6% on the previous year. Renault and Nissan both reported global increases in sales, of 14% and 21.5% respectively.
