FEATURED Nichelle Nichols Nichelle Nichols will forever be etched into the annuals of pop culture for her long list of accomplishments. Considered the Grand Dame of Sci-Fi for portraying Lt. Uhura on the original “Star Trek” television series, she was the first black woman to share an interracial kiss on network television, with co-star William Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk. During the run of the show, from 1966 to 1969, Nichelle, being frustrated with the limitations of her role, decided to return her first love, the stage. However, she was approached by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at a NAACP event, who told her he considered her a positive role model for African Americans, as she was playing the fourth in command of the Starship USS Enterprise. He persuaded her to remain on the show and was later quoted as saying, “Her role became the first non-stereotypical portrayal of a black woman in television history.” In 1991, with the release of “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country,” the cast was asked to have their hands, footprints and signatures embedded at the world famous TCL (Grauman’s) Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Playing Commander Uhura, she became the first African American woman to have this honor. Following the cancellation of the television series Ms. Nichols, under contract to NASA, was the first woman to recruit minority astronauts for the Space Shuttle Program. Through her efforts, Dr. Sally Ride became the first American female astronaut, Colonel Guion Bluford became the first African-American astronaut, Lori Garver went on to serve as Deputy Administrator and Charles Bolden is currently the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Administrator. Nichelle Nichols was discovered by Duke Ellington and toured as a singer with both Ellington and Lionel Hampton. She has recorded several albums: “Down to Earth,” “Out of this World” and “Nichelle Nichols: Live at Disneyland.” She has garnered two nominations for Sarah Siddons Awards for Excellence in Chicago Theatre for her performances in Oscar Brown Jr.’s “Kicks & Company” and Jean Genet’s “The Blacks.” She has also starred in “Reflections,” a one-woman show that paid tribute to female jazz and blues singers. Other theatrical triumphs include leading roles in “Carmen Jones,” “Porgy and Bess” and James Baldwin’s “Blues for Mister Charlie.” Ms. Nichols met Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry while shooting an episode of his first television series “The Lieutenant.” The show dealt with racial prejudice. Roddenberry, when casting his soon-to-be iconic and ground-breaking science fiction series, offered her the role of the Chief Communications Officer. Other notable film appearances include playing Cuba Gooding Jr.’s mother in “Snow Dogs” and Miss Maple, opposite Ice Cube, in “Are We There Yet?” Other film credits include the cult classic “The Supernaturals” and the comedy “Lady Magdalene’s.” She is also well-remembered for her recurring role in the hit television series “Heroes.” In 1994 she published her autobiography Beyond Uhura: Star Trek and Other Memories. Her additional awards and accolades include: Receiving NASA’s distinguished Public Service Award. Receiving her star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in 1992. Becoming an Honorary Member of the Alpha Sorority. Receiving an Honorary Doctorate Degree in 2010 from Los Angeles Mission College. For additional information and filmography please visit www.uhura.com. A PRODUCTION OF HOT SPRINGS HOT SPOTS

THE HOT WATER IS GONE & the city IS THREATENEd!
HSHOTSPOTS.COM
The sleepy TOURIST town of Spa City is in crisis... The thermal Springs thE CITY ONCE dependED on have SUDDENLY AND mysteriously turned FRIGID pumping only chilly water out from below the city streets. Citizens are beginning to worry- not only do they have to take BONE CHILLING showers but the local businesses have all been put on ice. Word has gotten out that thIS once warm summer playground is no great destination, and the once busy streets seem eerily quiet. There’s not a single cup of hot coffee to be had and THE world-famous Hot Spring beer HAS STOPPED BREWING. The bathhouses and spas NO LONGER TAKE CLIENTS and THE ONCE LOOSENED JOINTS OF BATHERS ARE PAINFULLY TIGHTENED AND ACHING ONCE MORE. Worst of all... there are whispers that the lack of hot water has been slowly turning the atmosphere toxic causing hallucinations and paranoia, and rumblings of A MUTATION EFFECT ON WILDLIFE HAVE BEGUN. Depressed, angry and desperatejust when the townspeople think they can’t take much more- a group of well-respected members of the community have been seemingly brainwashed into donning Elvis jumpsuits and wreaking havoc around town. THEY’VE BEGUN harassing people and causing mayhem on the streets, day and night. Once trusted, the Elvi are now feared but what they want, and more importantly, who they are working for, is shrouded in foggy rumors and dense darkness. What will the citizens of Spa City do? Who will stand up and fight against the threatening Elvi and their secret Boss? Is it all connected to the mystery of the vanishing thermal spring water? Who can restore peace and prosperity to the town?
