Frequently asked questions Childcare and kindergarten photography Tell me a little about the process. I offer parents a candid and boutique alternative for childcare portraits and kindergarten graduation portraits. I pride myself on capturing a quality photograph that accentuates each child’s individual personality. I don’t like the word “cheese” and I do not believe in forcing a smile. I crave authenticity and natural expressions. What do you need from the centre? I will need daily classroom schedules, a map or layout of your centre, and a list of any special instructions or sensitive information you think may be pertinent. Also, if your centre uses a mass email system to notify parents of various announcements, I would love to take advantage of that once or twice during the process to remind parents and to encourage participation in the program. If I need anything else in addition to this I will be sure to let you know. Do you have insurance and a Blue Card? Yes, I have $5million general liability insurance and I currently hold a current Working with Children Blue Card. Where do you take the pictures? I shoot exclusively natural light and almost always outdoors – usually in a shaded or protected area. I would like to work with you in the weeks preceding our shoot to work out the best possible places for shooting. Safety is my first concern – second is the need for great lighting. Usually I am not able to shoot indoors due to my unique set-up. Will be have to reschedule for bad weather? In our planning conversations we will try and determine the best location for our set-up. Where possible I will make sure it’s somewhere that is protected from bad weather. Clouds will not deter me. Rain will only stop me if it’s heavy and potentially unsafe. I will make every effort to stay on schedule despite weather, however, in the case of thunderstorms or if conditions are unsafe, then of course we’ll organise another time. How do parents pay you? My entire system is hosted online. Proofs are released for viewing through an online link and all orders and payments are processed online. The Centre does not need to worry about printed proofs, order forms, or handling and processing money. My online system does this all. I will get email addresses from parents in the
registration process. My goal is to minimise the administrative impact on you and your team. How long does this process take? After the session, it will take approximately 3-6 weeks (depending on the size of the centre) before proofs are released to the parents. The order deadline will be listed for one week after the proof release. Once all orders are in, products will begin to arrive 2-4 weeks later. I will personally deliver all of the products to your centre and be there to assist in delivery. What does it cost for families? I offer both print packages as well as digital negatives, where parents can print themselves. My smallest print package is $40 and my digital negative collection begins at $45. I also offer custom studio products such as gallery wrap canvases and framed enlargements. Do you have a contract? I have a simple contract that outlines the basic services that I provide to your Centre, as well as details on the revenue share with your Centre. The contract covers basic topics such as safety, liability, logistics, payments, and scheduling. I am more than happy to provide a copy of this contract for your review. Do you partner with the centre on revenue? I will provide your centre with 10% of all net profits from package sales. Please allow up to 6 weeks after delivery of the centres products to receive your payment. I will also offer portrait headshots of all staff and provide you with a fun wall print of a selection of images to display in your centre. Will the centre need to hire an assistant for you? The centre will not need to change anything to accommodate me. I will bring along my own assistant for the day. How many options do parents get? Each child will have at least 4-5 unique images or poses presented in both black and white and colour. Due to the unique style of portrait, I offer class photos as a composite– a headshot of all students in a single collage. However I can certainly shoot traditional class photos if that’s what your Centre prefers. I offer 4 different print packages and 2 different digital negative collections. I also offer custom canvases up to 30x40” and framed studio enlargements.
