Plenty of local fun and frivolity for St. Patrick’s Day

By Lela Johnson

St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Monday (March 17) this year, so many of the city’s celebrations will be happening the weekend before. Although Irish pubs will surely steal the spotlight, there’s also a parade, music festival and more.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The 132nd annual parade moves to Midtown this year and will step off on Peachtree Street at noon on March 15 from 16th Street. Led by the iconic Budweiser Clydesdales, the parade will feature 2,000 dancers, musicians, floats and balloons. The familyfriendly event will continue to 5th Street. Come early to find a good viewing spot. For more information, visit atlantastpats.com.

Shamrock the Station

After the parade, head over to Atlantic Station for an afternoon of family activities and an evening concert by The Ruckus. A schedule was still being planned at press time, so visit atlanticstation.com for more details.

Shamrock Music Festival

Wear your green party clothes and head to the Masquerade Music Park on March 15 for this annual festival featuring tribute bands to Journey, The Rolling Stones, The Blues Brothers, Van Halen and U2. There will also be grub from local food trucks and plenty of green beer. Advance tickets are $19.95 at shamrockmusicfest.thrivemediapartners. com.

Lucky Leprechaun Pub Crawl

The 3rd Annual Lucky Leprechaun Pub Crawl returns to Buckhead on March 15 from 5 to 11 p.m. Purchase a ticket that will include 5 “Leprechaun” sized drinks, and St. Paddy’s food and drink specials. Tickets and more information is available at atlantabartours.com.

Fado’s St. Patrick’s Day

Always a popular place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Fado’s Irish pub in Buckhead is hosting a two-day bash for everyone 21 and up. March 15 will include a street festival of fully stocked bars, food tents, and live music, while the pub will open at 7 a.m. on March 17 with bagpipers and Irish dancers. Make sure to buy your tickets in advance for this famous weekend event at fadoirishpub.com.
