The Atlanta Streetcar will remain free to ride through the rest of 215. Mayor Kasim Reed made the announcement during last month’s Central Atlanta Progress annual meeting. A $1 fare was expected to begin in April. The city will take the additional time to review system attributes and determine how the Streetcar’s fare system can best interface with the MARTA Breeze system. The Georgia Department of Transportation said it will begin patching deteriorating asphalt this summer.

The Atlanta Department of Public Works has closed part of Mitchell Street in Downtown until August to continue improvements to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge and to accommodate construction of the Falcons stadium. Infrastructure improvements including street widening, installation of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, signal improvements, streetlights and restriping will occur during the closure. The improvements are part of the realignment of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive (east of Northside Drive) to accommodate construction on the new Atlanta stadium. Be sure to follow posted detour signs.
